"We support our position in favour of the candidacies of Brazil and India, while at the same time taking a positive decision on the well-known initiatives of the African Union. However, of course, we cannot even talk about any additional seats for Western countries, who are already excessively over-represented within the Security Council," he added. 
 
Notably, India has long sought a permanent seat in the Security Council to better represent the interests of the developing world. The nation's quest has gained momentum with support from the international community. Earlier on Friday, Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay voiced support for India's bid for a permanent seat on the UNSC. 
 
In his address, Lavrov accused the West of trampling the values of globalisation. He said that the nations of the West have imposed a sanctions war against half of the nations in the world and is using the dollar as a "weapon."

Hours after Chinese leader Xi Jinping met top Russian diplomat Sergey Lavrov in Beijing, China on Wednesday (April 10) vowed that it would not accept "criticism or pressure" over its ties with Russia.&nbsp;

China's foreign ministry said on Thursday that Wang will travel to Africa and visit Egypt, Tunisia, Togo and Cote d'Ivoire from January 13-18.&nbsp;

India's Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar on Wednesday (Dec 27) hailed the "very strong" and "very steady" relationship between New Delhi and Moscow as he met his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov to discuss bilateral cooperation in different spheres, international strategic situation, conflicts and tensions.&nbsp;

Jaishankar, who is currently on a five-day visit to Russia, said, "Our relations have been very strong, very steady. And I think we have lived up to a special and privileged strategic partnership."&nbsp;

He noted that it was his seventh meeting with Lavrov. He said this year "We have already met six times, and this is our seventh meeting".&nbsp;

The Indian foreign minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Vladimir Putin have been in frequent contact as he noted that forums like G20, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, ASEAN, and BRICS allowed many more regular contacts.&nbsp;

Jaishankar said, "We will discuss the international strategic situation, conflicts and tensions, also focus on development challenges that the Global South faces and of course the multilateralism and the building of a multipolar world order."&nbsp;

"We are very glad to see continued progress and we expect a strong Russian participation at the Vibrant Gujarat meeting in January," he added.&nbsp;

"And when the people who did not accept the coup in the east of Ukraine and in Crimea said, guys, leave us alone, we are not going to follow your policies, they will declare a terrorist," he said while addressing the Raisina Dialogue.&nbsp;

The Russian foreign minister further said there were a lot of things that happened between the lies about not expanding NATO by Ukraine and the anniversary of the war which cannot be “overlooked.”
