There is a new mashup that is doing the rounds of the internet and it is hilariously accurate. Someone has very smartly combined Ranveer Singh's song Khalibali with Korean star Psy's smash hit Gangnam Style. And the result is impressive. Singh energetic dance moves, originally performed in Padmaavat, are apt for Psy’s smash hit. Considering Padmaavat’s appeal at the moment, this mashup is perhaps the first of many such fan-made videos and memes. Psy's Gangnam style released 2012 and went viral almost instantly. It was the most watched video on YouTube until it was overtaken in July 2017 by Wiz Khalifa’s See You Again.

This mashup of Ranveer Singh's Alauddin Khilji dancing to Psy's Gangnam style is just perfect

Compliments have been pouring in from all quarters for Ranveer Singh's performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat. The actor's portrayal of Alauddin Khilji is being termed by many as the defining performance of his career.

While his co-stars, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, have been lauded for their performances as well, it is Ranveer who has hogged the maximum limelight for his role. Interestingly, Shahid himself has stated that Ratan Singh's character was not author-backed, unlike Ranveer's Khilji.

When Shahid was asked what he felt about Ranveer's performance, his answer took some people by surprise.

"Which actor would not wish to play a character like Khilji in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film? You know, once on Koffee with Karan, Ranveer said he would have done my role in Kaminey better than me... I would have done Khilji differently," he said.

When Shahid was prodded further on how he would have played the character, the actor took a safer route by answering it diplomatically. "Firstly, I do not want to get into those details. Always remember, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the hero of all his films and we actors come second," he said.

"So whether it is the loud and larger-than-life character of Khilji or the subtleness of Ratan Singh, everything was governed by Sanjay Sir. So, this is his vision of his. What I just said about performing differently, is because we are two different actors and our style of acting is different," Shahid added.

Bhansali's Padmaavat also stars Jim Sarbh, Aditi Rao Hydari and Raza Murad in prominent roles.

Shahid Kapoor on Ranveer Singh's performance in Padmaavat: Would have played Khilji differently

As you alight from a taxi in a quiet Juhu bylane, your eyes darting left to right to spot where Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s office could possibly be, a police jeep comes into your vision. And you know immediately that behind the intimidating brown gates is where the man is “imprisoned.’’

When the gate slams shut, a name and reference check is done. And then, a dozen safari suit-clad men with walkie-talkies point you in the right direction. Finally, you are seated opposite SLB, who is dressed in his signature kurta-pyjama. His mop of grey hair and dark-rimmed glasses lend style to his carefully-built persona. He is celebrating the runaway success of his magnum opus with chocolate. Urging you to dig in, he indicates that he is ready to talk. And so, we ask:

Padmaavat continues to go through a lot of strife…
Yes, but Padmaavat is blessed. There are creative angels who come and bless such films. There is some divine energy that says this is the way it should be. It is fascinating to go with the flow. If you are supposed to face the attacks or these kind of protests that we have gone through, it’s a part of the film’s destiny. All I can say is that it just makes you stronger and wants you to make the movie better. When your whole being is at stake and you feel that you are going to perish, you give the thing on hand your best shot. Then things unfold in a way. So, from January 27, 2017, when we were attacked in Jaipur to January 25 this year when the film released, it has been one whole year of strife. I cannot describe all that my team and I went through.

Why didn’t you speak earlier?
A lot of people said that I didn’t answer or defend myself. I didn’t come out in the open to speak or react. But my only reaction was to make the film better. If it hit the screen, which it seemed would be almost impossible at one point, that itself would have been a victory. At the cost of repeating myself, I must say that movies like Padmaavat are destined. How can the same set of people (actor, technicians) who have worked on this film and go to another film, are not able to achieve the same kind of results that this movie has? There is some divine energy. When a film reaches a theatre, that is the happiest journey for me because there is no greater joy than that final lap from the laboratory to the screen. That is what you live for. When the first frame is beamed on the screen, it is the most fascinating and satisfying moment for me even after all these years and so many films. It is a moment to die for.

Do you agree that you have achieved a cult status in Bollywood?
I don’t know who says what. All I know is that there’s a madness that is growing within me. I constantly strive to say something bigger and better. There is a time when you evolve. You feel that you have understood your craft, signature and style of filmmaking. You know you are more adept at doing things and find that rhythm slowly over the years. That’s what I think has happened to me. I found scale during my Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Devdas days. But the journey between Goliyon Ki Raas Leela Ram-Leela and Padmaavat taught me so many other aspects. It is very difficult to make a big-scale film. What people call, ‘the big-screen experience’, is hard to achieve.

All that I loved about music, drama; all that I have learnt from Raj Kapoor, K Asif or Kamal Amrohi, V Shantaram and Mehboob Khan, I started finding and putting it together. I have also deeply admired Ramesh Sippy (of Sholay fame). I’m constantly imbibing the energies of these great men with vision and talking to them. So, I’m discovering far more than the basic box-office collection.

You said Ram Leela was a learning curve...
I started finding the rhythm of the shot for the first time during Ram Leela. I made sure the sur and the scale didn’t go wrong. I found some joy in making Padmaavat irrespective of the problems that I encountered.

Is it right to say that you have been obsessed with your ideas long before your films went on floors?
I took 12 years to make Bajirao Mastani. I waited nine years to make Ram Leela and I had to wait eight years from the time I did Padmavati, the opera on stage, in Paris to get to the film. I’ve enjoyed making these movies so much. They were very challenging. How to put things into a big frame and how to spend money are things that I’m obsessing about all the time. You know budgets become available to you but how you spend that money in the correct way is important. And I really don’t care whether the films brought in the numbers at the box office or not. I never work with that fear.

One never hears of you taking a holiday...
People say why don’t you go on a holiday and I tell them I only want to go to the studio. I want to go to FilmCity and Mehboob Studios and sit over there. So often, when I’m crossing Bandra, I make it a point to drive into the Mehboob Studio compound, sit there and just stare. That is the kind of love that I have for cinema.

That’s why you have been labelled eccentric…
(Laughs) They can call me what they want. If I’m happy and I enjoy taking that detour into the studio compound and saluting the memory of Mehboob Khan, then let me be. Perhaps the energies of Mehboob saab will get into me and his soul will bless me. Who knows? I like doing that, so I do it. I go to V Shantaram’s Rajkamal Studio in Parel for my mixing. And when I stroll in that place, I can feel his energy and soul. His trophies... the smell in that re-recording studio which has been exactly the same over the years. I had gone there first when I was remixing for Parinda (1989) because I was an assistant with Vidhu Vinod Chopra.

It does matter right that Padmaavat will cross the 150 crore mark today?
It’s so nice to know that the audience wants to see your work. A film without an audience makes no sense. When they say, ‘We now understand your signature and style of filmmaking, so we come to see your film,’ it’s a great high. Whether it has Ranveer (Singh) and Deepika (Padukone which is an added attraction), they come to see my film. I personally thank god for this blessing because even if I’ve been cursed with all these innumerous problems — over the years which I have fought — inner demons and external problems — I’ve also been blessed by God because he has said, ‘Ok fine, you get a style and signature, you have an audience, you do not need anything more.’ Who puts in Rs 180 crore to make a film? It is easier said than done. I would say I’m more blessed than I’m cursed. Even though Padmaavat has gone through so many problems, today it is getting its due.

You have done three films with Aishwarya (Rai Bachchan) and three with Deepika. Is it time to look for a new muse?
Deepika is so fabulous; she is such a jaan. I just love her. All her hard work and brilliance that she brings to the set is effortless. She does her preparation but there is none of the—I AM PREPARED FOR A ROLE—heaviness around her. It is done with so much silence. It’s such a pleasure to work with someone who does what she is doing at that moment with absolute honesty. She’s an actor who feels so honestly and simply, but her performances are detailed and nuanced. I’m not done with her yet.

What about Ranveer Singh who seems to be your favourite?
No other filmmaker understands Ranveer the way I do. Ranveer and I have a great chemistry and understanding. I know how to direct him and I’m aware about his limitations and strengths. I know what to do with him. He’s a very special actor. He has so much energy. I only feel he puts too much effort into ‘I did my research and I went here and did that’, all that I understand. For him to pursue his greatness, he has to be a little more effortless. He is fantastic. I am not done with him either.

Shahid was the new energy on your set?
Shahid was a new energy on set because I hadn’t worked with him before. It was interesting to see how a new actor works. He is a great-looking kid. He is extremely talented and so effortless. He is constantly wanting to become better. He would say, ‘I’m unhappy with that shot. Can I do this better?’ And I would tell him, ‘Can you stop pushing yourself. And punishing yourself because I know what I want from you.’ It was great working with him. He gave Maharawal Ratan Singh such dignity and silence. It was a nuanced and delicate performance. I’m so proud of what he has done in this film. Ranveer obviously had the author-backed role and he has come out with flying colours in it because of the range, but to play a straight and understated part, yet to make your presence felt is very difficult. Deepika and Shahid look so good together. I wish they do more films with each other.

Aren’t you being too harsh on yourself by completely isolating yourself from the world?
I’m in a zone. I’ve not met anyone. I only live for my films. I do not feel I’m too harsh on myself. I’m enjoying it immensely. Once I start a film, I’m like that person who is sitting in a yagna completely consumed by the puja and the process. I’m in that meditative state where I see nothing, but my film. Even if I’ve been physically attacked or my set has been ransacked, my first reaction is, ‘Oh god, that shot, which we had set up, was so beautiful! Where will I take it?’ The humiliation and the anger of what I went through became secondary in so many ways. My film mattered to me. I saw a film called Sant Tukaram so many years ago. When Tukaram was asked anything, he would say ‘Vithal, Vithal.’ And you would wonder what he meant. Today, I understand what it means because for me it is only films. I have become Tukaram.

Doesn’t all work and no play make you dull?
The emotions that I may deprive myself of in terms of relationships don’t matter. I live my life through my films. It is such a joy. Nothing distracts me. I just want to make bigger and better films. I’m constantly asking myself, ‘How do I evolve further?’ I’ve done a lot of introspection to reach this stage. If a film worked, I’ve never got up and said, ‘Wow, my movie worked. Bro, let us have a party.’ For me, it is how do I get better. How do I get one more star from a reviewer? How do I become a better person and a better filmmaker? Which is why you are finding a slow growth in my films from Ram Leela to Padmaavat. The search for excellence doesn’t die. It is getting more and more pronounced. And I’m living it completely.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali on Padmaavat: Cannot describe all that my team and I went through

Shahid Kapoor believes playing Maha Rawal Ratan Singh was the biggest risk of his career as people did not know much about the character's journey but he is glad that "the hero" of "Padmaavat" is rightfully getting his due.
The 36-year-old actor said there were many people who questioned him for taking up the role

Shahid Kapoor believes playing Maha Rawal Ratan Singh was the biggest risk of his career as people did not know much about the character's journey but he is glad that "the hero" of "Padmaavat" is rightfully getting his due. The 36-year-old actor said there were many people who questioned him for taking up the role, as Padmavati (Deepika Padukone) and Sultan Alauddin Khilji (Ranveer Singh) were already popular. "It was one of the biggest risks of my career to take a role like this where for one-and-a-half years nobody knew what it is... So many people had told me why are you doing this film. I knew my character is an underdog in the film, I'm happy that the hero of the film is getting so much love. "Out of the three characters, people know a lot about Padmavati, about Alauddin Khilji, but nobody knows about Rawal Ratan Singh. Now you know his journey was also so spectacular," Shahid said in a group interview. The actor said he felt "validated" with the praise that the film, which released after delays and controversies, has received. "Everyone is talking about it being the top grosser but it's a great film. We have come a long way, journey of a year and a half... There was a point we were wondering will it be able to release properly. It's been a turbulent and emotionally draining journey. "... I feel validated that the film has come out and people have said so many beautiful things about it," Shahid said. "Padmaavat", earlier titled "Padmavati", was in the eye of the storm as several Rajput groups and politicians were up in arms against the film over an alleged dream sequence between Khilji and Padmavati, a claim repeatedly denied by the director and the team. The film was stuck with the censor board for a while and had to miss its December 1 release last year. It arrived in the theatres on January 25, minus the 'i' in the title, and several disclaimers and modifications.

Knew my character was an underdog in 'Padmaavat': Shahid Kapoor

A lot of reactions around Sanjay Leela Bhansali's film Padmaavat has been coming ever since the magnum opus hit the big screens on January 25th. While most have appreciated the performances and the scale of the film, many have raised objections on how Bhansali has glamorized the Jauhar scene.

Among the many voices, actress Swara Bhaskar's open letter for Bhansali has made the most impact. Swara wrote that how the Jauhar scene glorified a medieval practice that should be condemned at all cost.

Padmaavat's leading man Shahid, on Wednesday, had reacted on the letter. Shahid said she was entitled to her opinion but added that it felt odd to him that she had taken it personally.

Now the film's leading lady, Deepika Padukone, who features in the said scene, has spoken about the scene. While speaking to DNA, Deepika said neither does she or the film's director endorse the practice of Jauhar and that the scene should be seen in the context of the period it is set in.

"You must see the scene/practice in context to the period in which it was shown. And when you do that, you will realise, it’s so powerful. You do not feel like she is doing anything wrong. You want her to embrace the flames because she is going to be united with the man she loves, " DNA quoted her as saying.

The actress also mentioned that how it was a difficult scene to enact as it was shot in the summers and she was wearing heavy jewellery and costume. " We shot it in peak summer at Film City in Mumbai. I cannot tell you how challenging it was. After every single take, I would go up to my van, have a shower, get ready for my scene and go back. With my heavy costume and jewellery, the heat was oppressive. It was such a difficult thing to execute."
The actress also mentioned that while there has been criticism, the scene has also been receiving standing ovation in theatres.

" When I saw the scene during the cast and crew screening, Sanjay sir, Ranveer (Singh) and I, who were sitting together, started bawling. Everyone stood up and clapped. We are part of this film, we know the story, we have been through the journey, yet it moved us. Then, Janhvi (Sridevi’s daughter), who had gone for a screening, told me that people there were standing and clapping, " Deepika said.

The actress has earned praise for her portrayal and she is clear that she doesn't want to play any more historical characters. "I do not think you can ever move on from a character like Padmavati. You feel a sense of relief and when you start moving on to other films, it takes a long time. Next week, I start preparing for my new movie, so I do not have the luxury of letting Padmavati possess me completely, but I know she is someone who will always be within me," the actress said.

The actress said neither she nor Bhansali endorses the practice of Jauhar.

The trio has impressed the critics and audiences alike. While Padmavaat may not have had Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, and Ranveer Singh sharing any frame together, fans of the stars had expected the three actors to at least be promoting the film together.
Controversies around the film made the makers cancel all promotional activities around the film and thus no one got a glimpse of the three actors in the same frame. Now that the film has released and running to packed theaters, the three actors are seen speaking about the film.
The epic movie hit theatres on January 25 and has ever since its release, earned Ranveer his fair share of accolades. Film critics and viewers alike have enjoyed his acting on th big screen. On getting the letter, Ranveer felt overwhelemed by the gesture and thus called the latter his 'award'. He took to Twitter to share a picture of the note and a bouquet that senior actor sent him after watching the film. Ranveer wrote: "Mujhe mera award mil gaya (I have got my award) @SrBachchan." Mujhe mera award mil gaya ????????????@SrBachchan pic.twitter.com/zlo9B6G2od — Ranveer Singh (@RanveerOfficial) January 29, 2018 × Amitabh Bachchan also praised Ranveer and sent a handwritten note in 2015, after watching "Bajirao Mastani". In "Padmaavat", Ranveer Singh was seen alongwith Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor, Jim Sarbh, Aditi Rao Hydari and Raza Murad.

Ranveer Singh says letter from Amitabh Bachchan is his 'award'

It is almost 11pm at night but Ranveer Singh has the broadest of smiles and warmest of hugs for all the journalists who have come to interview and chat with him . His infectious energy as usual is contagious and wards off the weariness caused due to the long wait. The actor confesses that he is on ‘cloud nine’. His gamble of playing Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat has paid off and how! He recently completed eight years in the industry and this film is the perfect icing on the cake given the superlative reviews he is getting for his monstrous and astounding act. Excerpts from the interview….

Which role was tougher, Bajirao or Alauddin Khilji?
This is the first time someone is asking me about this. I have not spoken about Padmaavat since I began work on it. I think Bajirao was more difficult mentally and physically while Khilji was tough physically. It was difficult only because of the shooting process. Due to the incidents and delays, all my work happened back to back. I was screaming my lungs out one day and doing action on the next day. During the Khalbali dance sequence, my knees had become like jelly. I could not feel my legs. While doing the action scenes, I would faint, recuperate, go aside vomit and come back to shoot. In costume dramas, normally everyone gets a break of six to eight days between sequences, which I did not get. The shooting process was extremely difficult but I knew I had to deliver. So, in terms of psyche and emotional turmoil, the role of Bajirao was very taxing but Khilji was an equally difficult part to play.

There was buzz that you were to see a shrink to undo Khilji from your system. Is that true?
No, I did not see a shrink. I may have needed one if my so-called first aid did not work. I spent quality time with my family and best friends. I spoke my heart out on how I was feeling. I heard them out. They were my doctors. Slowly, I came back to where I was…yes, there was a point when I felt I was losing myself to this role to such an extent that I might have to visit a doctor. But my first aid worked…

Is there anything in common in between Ranveer and Khilji?
There is nothing in common. I could not relate to this person who was so manipulative, greedy and ambitious. A person who would not bat an eyelid before harming others…it is not me at all. As part of my preparation and homework, I would study such people in history to relate to the worldview of Khilji. I had to understand and convince myself that there were people like them, and draw from it to infuse life into the character. I buried into the deep, dark recesses of my life and memories, which I had brushed under the carpet and were buried in my conscience. I have confronted those demons and used them in my performance. It has been a catharsis; I am feeling a lot more lighter, happier and nicer. I only have good feelings towards people, only gratitude. I have more love, affection and kindness to give now.

Which scene was the toughest to perform ?
It was a physical concern, the way the shoot went. I shot for this elaborate dance piece after shooting back to back action scenes. After every day of shooting, I would jump into a bucket of ice from my toes to head to help recover my body. I would stay in it for three to six minutes, I slowly built it up. It is very tough to jump into a pool of ice. My body was breaking, my voice had gone with the screaming and I was doing brutal action scenes. I had so many niggles. After recovering in the ice bath, I would come back and perform. I shot back to back for action/dance sequences. On day 37, I was really broken.

People have loved Jim Sarbh’s performance as Malik Kafur and your chemistry with him.
People are talking so much about mine and Jim’s parts (laughs). It is so heartening to see that. Jim was one of the most enriching co-actor experiences I ever had. You must know this, casting Jim was my idea. I had seen Neerja and was blown away by his performance. I told Sanjay Sir to please try him out for the role of Kafur. Just after his first audition he got cast. I am too thrilled about the appreciation he is getting. We know well how much he has contributed towards the film.

Not many mainstream actors would dare to play a bisexual villain. Did you have any apprehensions knowing it could backfire?
Khilji was a bad person of so many negative shades. In personal life, I am straight. As far as playing a bisexual villain goes, not many mainstream actors would do that. Films are about imagery. Someone once told me that you are perceived as the characters you play. But then, it always excites me to push the envelope and challenge myself to do something that is a first. The bisexuality angle added to the menace, it was a complete skewing of a conservative or traditional moral compass like how scary would a person of that type be for someone with these values.
I was scared to bits for taking on the part. I was apprehensive by Sanjay Sir persisted and persuaded me. He was convinced that I could do it and backed me fully. As apprehensive as I was, I know how much he has contributed towards my growth as an actor and artiste. I took a leap of faith for him. He almost insisted that I do that. I am thrilled that what we have created together is a memorable character that left an impact on pop culture and folklore.

"PadMan," tells the story of Arunachalam Muruganantham, the man behind a low-cost machine for manufacturing sanitary napkins in rural India. The controversial "Padmaavat" is based on the legend of Rani Padmini of Chittor, played by Deepika Padukone.

Hope no film faces protests like 'Padmaavat': Sonam Kapoor

It is astonishing what adversity can do to you. It has been eight long, painful and mortifying months now for filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali - the master of epic sagas like Devdas and Bajirao Mastani, which have made insane amounts of money while asserting the director's place as the only true successor to the epic filmmakers K Asif, Mehboob Khan, V Shantaram and Raj Kapoor.

For the past months while my dear friend Sanjay has been attacked physically and emotionally, he has felt like none of the movie moguls mentioned above could have felt. In fact, Sanjay feels like a common criminal, being hounded, threatened, bullied and heckled, for a crime whose nature he isn't aware of. Maybe he needs to read the law books which say making films in this country can be damaging to the filmmaker's health.

The Padmavat crisis has broken Sanjay physically and emotionally. For months now, he hasn't been eating or sleeping properly. And he has started chain-smoking again.

"It's Lataji's songs and cigarettes which have kept me going all these months," he tells me. I stay quiet. I've no words of consolation.

To say Sanjay has been to hell and back would be an understatement. Living under the constant shadow of threat and fear is like coping with a fatal disease, a cancer of the spirit that eats away at one's soul. The very real threats from the fringe groups - and I've been first-hand witness to them where callers on his cell phone have been shouting they would do him much worse than merely behead him - is something that no outsider would understand, let alone empathise with.

The lack of real camaraderie within the film fraternity makes it worse for someone as private as Sanjay Bhansali. He became more vulnerable to attack when the attackers realized he had no support system to buffer the bullying. The post-midnight calls became more abusive and the threats more pecuniary in nature, if you know what I mean.

Yes, there were open offers to 'stop all protests' in exchange of fiscal favours. Sanjay closed down his cell number. The calls then began coming on his home number, which were sometimes received by his old and ailing mother.

For Sanjay, the most important thing at that moment was to protect his mother from the hurt. He stopped watching news channels at home - and once the attacks gathered momentum and the security was beefed up, he was at home most of the time - so that his mother wouldn't be exposed to her son's vilification. But then, she would read about Sanjay's demonising the next morning in the Gujarati newspaper that she combed religiously.

The situation at Sanjay Bhansali's home was beyond depressing. At some point, Sanjay just gave up the fight and stopped thinking about the fate of Padmavat. He left all the marketing decisions to his producers, Viacom 18 Motion Pictures. The decision to release Padmavaton January 25 is the producer's.

My friend Sanjay Bhansali has become a bystander in the drama of his own that's being played out in full public view. No one is sure how this bizarre narrative based on hearsay and political antipathy will pan out finally. As Sanjay Bhansali told a friend, "Can the film release in the states that have threatened to ban it? Does the CBFC endorsement mean anything to those who want to stop my film at any cost?"

And why do they want Padmavat stopped? A whim? An impulse? Or it is it something far deeper that you or I cannot understand? I guess, like Jessica, we'll never know who tried to kill Padmavat.

Om Shanti Om: Many termed it as a dream debut but Farah Khan's film on reincarnation pitted Deepika against the biggest star of them all-Shah Rukh Khan. Yet the actress managed to pull off the role of Shantipriya with absolute ease and made critics sit up and take notice of the debutant.

Love Aaj Kal: Imtiaz Ali's film was an unconventional story of a couple and their lives post break up. With two distinct narratives and soulful music that is till date remembered, Love Aaj Kal was rather a different film. It was also one of the films that came to Deepika early in her career. Paired opposite Saif Ali Khan, Deepika played Meera Pandit a spirited woman who doesn't let a break up affect her relationship with Jai(Saif).

Cocktail: 2012 proved to be a turning point in Deepika's career. The actress suddenly broke away from run-of-the-mill roles that she was doing in the past few years and worked in Homi Adajania's flawed Cocktail. While most had a problem with the film's convoluted storyline, everyone praised Deepika for her portrayal of Veronica. One had never seen Deepika playing such character before onscreen. Veronica had a heart of gold but had deep insecurities. She was glamorous and sexy and yet wasn't sure of herself. It was a complicated character to essay but Deepika absolutely nailed the part.

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani:There is no denying that Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone make for a stunning pair onscreen. When the former lovers decided to unite on the big screen for Ayan Mukerji's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani in 2013, everyone was curious to see whether the awkwardness of the exes would reflect on the big screen as well. But the two managed to create absolute magic making the film one of the best love stories of the decade. While Ranbir played a restless noman, Deepika played the calming factor in his life. The film just a lot of people believe in fairytale romances.

Chennai Express:Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone reunited once again for Rohit Shetty's Chennai Express - a film that had Deepika playing a Tamilian. Armed with a heavy accent, Deepika matched SRK's acting in every frame. The film was a blockbuster hit and Deepika made her character Meenalochani Azhagusundaram on of the most endearing characters of 2013.

Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela: The first film that Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh did with Sanjay Leela Bhansali was an Indian version of Romeo and Juliet. The crackling chemistry of the lead pair was hard to miss and in fact, it was because of these two that Ram Leela became such a hit. It was on the sets of this film that Deepika and Ranveer reportedly started dating. The film fetched her the Best Actress Filmfare award in 2013.

Piku:Piku was refreshingly different. Till Piku, Deepika was only known for glamorous, larger than life characters. But Piku presented Deepika as a regular, ordinary girl. A slice-of-life film, the film had Deepika Padukone sharing screen space with two stalwarts- Amitabh Bachchan and Irrfan Khan but it was Deepika who stole the limelight with her portrayal of the ambitious, stubborn and caring Piku.

Bajirao Mastani: Set in the early 18th century, the film was a tragic story of an extramarital affair. It was also a difficult role to portray physically for Deepika, who had to learn sword fighting, horse riding to play Princess Mastani. Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film also co-starred Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra and together the three actors owned the screen with their powerful performances.

On her birthday, celebrating Deepika Padukone the actress.

She is undoubtedly the number one star in India currently. But Deepika Padukone wears her stardom lightly. The actress who made a smashing debut opposite superstar Shah Rukh Khan in Om Shanti Om, a decade back, has steadily grown as an actress and has tried to step out of her comfort zone by taking up challenging roles. Be it a period drama, a thriller or a slice-of-life film, Deepika has, in the last 10 years, struck a fine balance juggling varied characters with much ease. Sushant, Kriti, Rajkummar, Akshay, Twinkle: Vacation diaries of Bollywood stars

Trust Ranveer Singh to bring a smile to your face on a dull day. The actor ran into Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani at the Colombo airport on Thursday morning. The couple and the actor are in Sri Lanka, presumably to spend the New Year's Eve. The three actors were seen hitching a ride together across the Colombo airport but what got us laughing is a video of Ranveer photobombing a selfie that Tiger and Disha are posing with their Lankan fans.

In the video, Ranveer can be seen leaping out from the back at the last moment pointing at Disha while Tiger smiles at the camera with the fans.

Saif Ali Khan's Kaalakaandi has generated a lot of curiosity ever since the makers have released its first trailer. A dark comedy by Akshat Verma, it has Saif Ali Khan playing a madcap living his life to the fullest after he learns he is diagnosed with stomach cancer.

The film was initially to release in 2017. But the censor board raised objections regarding some of its content and cleared it only now. The film is now scheduled to release on January 12th. But speculations are rife that Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati may also release on the same date. Would Saif's film stand a chance at the Box Office if such a situation arises?
"If Padmavati comes in [on that day], we will think of shifting our release date. I hope we don’t have to do that. Kaalakaandi is a film I am proud of,” Saif Ali Khan said to the media during the trailer launch event of the film.
Saif's last few films haven't worked at the Box Office and the actor is aware of it. "It’s easy to think that people no longer want to see me in a film. But I don’t do that. The actor is also okay with the idea if both Kaalakaandi and Padmavati release on the same day. "It would have been nice to see Kaalakaandi releasing with Padmavati, as it shows that we have a film industry, which makes different kinds of movies. Recently, we saw Secret Superstar and Golmaal Again releasing on the same day and both films did well.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali appeared in front of a Parliamentary committee on Thursday afternoon to present his point of view on his film Padmavati. While protest around the film continues, Bhansali categorically stated that he had not distorted the historical facts about the 16th-century Rajput queen in his film.

According to sources, the director presented his point of view in front of a 30 member panel which was headed by BJP MP Anurag Thakur and also included LK Advani and Congress' Raj Babbar.

"All the controversy over the film is based on rumours. I have not distorted facts. The film is based on a poem by Malik Muhammad Jayasi," Bhansali was quoted as saying by a news agency. Jayasi poem was called 'Padmavat'.

The director was grilled for two hours by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on IT as he appeared before it in Parliament House with Prasoon Joshi, who heads the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

Bhansali was also questioned by the panel on why he had screened the movie for a few select journalists even before it was cleared by the censor board.

"We don`t intend to hurt anyone's sentiments," Bhansali told the 30-member panel.

The director has been given time till December 14 to reply to the panel.

The film has been courting controversy over assumptions that it has a dream sequence depicting romance between Rajput warrior queen Padmini and Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khilji. The director has categorically denied filming any such scene.

The sources said a few members also claimed Bhansali's films tended to "target" communities, triggering tensions. They said the panel also asked Bhansali whether he is trying to promote Jauhar, a ritual of self-immolation practised in Rajasthan, in his film at a time when Sati is banned in the country.

Censor board chief Joshi, appearing before the Parliamentary panel on petitions, said the board had not approved the film and will consult experts for this.

The Rajput Karni Sena, an organisation of the Rajput community, has urged a nationwide ban on Bhansali`s Padmavati. Activists of the Sena and some other groups have been protesting against the movie, claiming it "distorts" historical facts.

As many as six states, including Rajasthan, have already announced that they will not release the film while the Supreme Court on Tuesday took exception to people holding official positions making "prejudicial comments" about the movie, saying these breached the principle of rule of law.

The apex court asked when the matter was pending for consideration before CBFC, how could persons in public authority comment on whether the censor board should issue a certificate or not.

Padmavati is based on Jayasi's poem, says Bhansali to Parliamentary panel

Padmavati row: Bihar may ban the film if objectionable scenese are not removed

The film Padmavati has raised much rubble in India. While everyone is talking about Rani Padmavati's pride and honour, no one is telling that Allaudin was a brutal emperor. For the sake of better historical perspective, it is crucial to discuss what was the condition of India during the time of Khilji rule and why Padmavati did Jauhar. Without reading about Khilji and Padmavati's history, it is difficult to know about the controversy.

My argument is, Allaudin Khilji was not a glamorous king. Instead, he was a brutal one. I am sure that Sanjay Leela Bhansali has not done any homework to establish this.
