I never see competition in any art form, especially acting as you are dealing with emotions. I can't say I cry better than the other actor. You just have to grow with every film as an actor and let people decide what they want to say. I just want to grow and push myself with every film."

Sanya Malhotra to start shooting for Anurag Basu's film

Rajkummar Rao may have emerged as a major draw at the box office but the actor does not believe he is anywhere near the super stardom that the three Khans have in Bollywood.

There is a great churning in Bollywood with content driven films outperforming and outclassing those headlined by the likes of Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan.

Rajkummar, who is the considered one of the faces of this new breed of cinema, however, says it would not be right to compare his stardom with that of the Khans.

"I don't think we can compare superstars and actors like me. The kind of films Aamir sir, Shah Rukh sir and Salman sir have done are amazing. You can't say they are not good just because one of their films did not work.

"They are superstars for some reason and we all love them. I am myself a fan of Khans. We should not compare. We are very new and we have a long way to prove ourselves. I don't think the kind of superstardom that these superstars have seen will ever come back again," Rajkummar told PTI.

The actor believes the mass hysteria and mania around their superstardom is something that all actors yearn for but it just cannot be replicated.

"I want all our films to do well at the box office. But the craze that they have seen is something I don't think is going to comeback. It is very tough. People love these actors, the way people react, shout, hug, cry... The phenomenon is huge."

The 34-year-old actor, whose filmography includes gems like 'Newton', 'Trapped', 'Bareilly Ki Barfi' and 'Stree', among others, rules himself out of the contention of being the next big Bollywood superstar.

"I am very happy doing what I am doing and if it takes me there, good. But let me tell you I am happy in this space."

The actor had five releases in 2018 but it was Amar Kaushik's 'Stree' that did the wonders for Rajkummar at the box office. He also starred in critically-acclaimed films ' Omerta' and 'Love Sonia'.

"Audience loved these stories more than anything else. Today people are more concerned about the content they are seeing. I always try to offer new things. Since my debut film 'Love Sex Aur Dhokha', I am trying to experiment and push boundaries as an actor. I am happy people are accepting that. It is a feeling of validation as these are the kind of films I was doing earlier and today they are doing great numbers."

Despite his recent success, the actor still reads all his scripts. He says yes to a project only if he feels the story is good.

"I do get a lot of scripts, I don't want to give a number, I can't brag. I get all kinds of scripts from weird to some really interesting ones as well. I have a number of films to choose from.

"I read all my scripts and I don't let other people decide. I believe an actor should invest their time in reading scripts carefully and understanding it. Also, there are filmmakers with whom I wanted to work and now I am getting the opportunity to do so."

Up next for the actor is 'Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Toh Aisa Laga', where he reunites with Anil Kapoor and co-stars Sonam Kapoor. Read the review of the film here.

About the film, Rajkummar says, "More than the role, the story was unique, so I did the film. It talks about things that are relevant in our society. I liked the role as well. It is the story that I look at first and then comes my role."

The film offers yet another take on LGBTQ issues, something which Rajkummar previously dealt with in Hansal Mehta's 'Aligarh'.

He believes that while 'Aligarh' was a biopic on Aligarh Muslim University professor Ramachandra Siras, 'Ek Ladki..' is a commercial project and an entertaining film.

"This film ('Ek Ladki..') is more about acceptance. This is a family film, relationship drama, it is about friendship, love. I believe there has to be equality, you can't judge someone based on sexual preference. It is their life and who they want as their partners, it is a normal thing," he adds.

He has interesting blend of films up for release this year - 'Mental Hai Kya' with Kangana Ranaut and 'Made in China'. He has also signed a film with Anurag Basu and Hansal Mehta.

Don't think the kind of superstardom Khans saw will ever come back again, says Rajkummar Rao

Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha's love story recently got featured on Humans of Bombay page on Instagram. Both actors took to their social media pages today and shared the story behind how they met and fell in love.

Sharing the Humans of Bombay post on his Twitter feed, Rajkumar Rao, simply captioned the post, "This is Us @Patralekhaa9."

Patralekhaa too acknowledged the story and posted, "Big shout out to @HumansOfBombay ."

According to the Humans of Bombay post, Patralekhaa revealed that her first impression of Rajkummar was based on his role in his debut film `Love Sex Aur Dhokha`.

While she initially thought Rao was "weird," when he first saw Patralekhaa in an advertisement, Rao thought, "I`m going to marry her."

Patralekhaa went on to add in the post that things changed when they started working together. "It was magic. The kind of passion he had was powerful and I couldn`t respect him any more than I did then! We spoke about our work, love for cinema, passion... I saw him through his struggles, never giving up. How could we not fall for each other?" Patralekhaa said.

Elaborating on how much Rao feels for her Patralekhaa revealed how once when he was late meeting her, he ran all the way from the airport to Juhu.

However, what stood out in Patralekhaa`s lengthy post is when she wrote, "We’re equals- when an article said, ‘Rajkumar with his girlfriend, Patralekhaa’, he retweeted–‘Patralekhaa with her boyfriend Rajkumar.’ I can tell you this, when you find the one-through the fights, hurdles & chaos, you should never forget to let them know you love them. It doesn’t have to be with expensive gifts & dates–it can simply be with the way you hold them while they need it & when they don’t. For us, we don’t know what the future holds, but this, being together, is enough."

Rajkummar Rao and Patralekha's love story recently got featured on Humans of Bombay page on Instagram. Both actors took to their social media pages today and shared the story behind how they met and fell in love. Sharing the Humans of Bombay post on his Twitter feed, Rajkumar Rao, simply captioned the post, "This is Us @Patralekhaa9." This is Us ❤️ @Patralekhaa9 https://t.co/wAmkORhqdc — Rajkummar Rao (@RajkummarRao) January 24, 2019 × Patralekhaa too acknowledged the story and posted, "Big shout out to @HumansOfBombay ." According to the Humans of Bombay post, Patralekhaa revealed that her first impression of Rajkummar was based on his role in his debut film `Love Sex Aur Dhokha`. While she initially thought Rao was "weird," when he first saw Patralekhaa in an advertisement, Rao thought, "I`m going to marry her." Patralekhaa went on to add in the post that things changed when they started working together. Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa open up about their love story

In an industry where relationships last a season, Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa have been giving relationship goals to fans for the last 8 years.
In a heartwarming chat with Facebook community page Humans of Bombay, Patralekhaa opened up about her relationship with Rajkummar for the first time. The actress spoke about how they had first spotted each other on screen first, how they grew as individuals and professionals from their struggling days in Bombay to how they still keep the love intact even after 8 years of being together.

Patralekhaa admitted that she had found him 'weird' when she had first seen him in 'Love Sex Aur Dhokha' in 2010. " “I saw him for the first time on screen when I watched LSD. He told me later, that he had first seen me in an ad and thought, ‘I’m going to marry her.’ It was so ironic!"

Love happened over a period of time for the couple. "Slowly we started talking about work, our love for cinema, our passion - everything. I saw him through his struggles, never giving up. We'd even accompany each other for auditions - silently seeping in support. It's all we needed - that understanding."

Patralekhaa made her Bollywood debut opposite Rajkummar in 'City Lights' in 2014, she recalled the experience as magical. Not only that but when we were earning very little, he surprised me with my favorite bag, which was ridiculously expensive!" Patralekhaa revealed.

Calling their relationship of two equal people, Patralekha recalled, " We're equals - in fact, when some article said, 'Rajkummar Rao with his girlfriend Patralekhaa', he immediately retweeted saying, 'Patralekhaa with her boyfriend Rajkummar.' I can tell you this, when you find someone you're grateful for - through the fights, the hurdles and the chaos, you should never forget to let them know you love them."

Patralekhaa on boyfriend Rajkummar Rao: Don’t know what the future holds but being together is enough

Abhishek Bachchan was last seen in Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Manmarziyaan’ that also had Vicky Kaushal and Taapsee Pannu. The film earned him critical praise and worked some good numbers at the box office but at the same time had a lot of attention for Vicky, his co-star.

In the latest ‘Koffee With Karan’ season 6 episode as Abhishek joined his sister Shweta Bachchan Nanda on the couch with filmmaker-host Karan Johar, the actor spoke of how his recent spate of films has pitted him as the second lead. Abhishek revealed that it is heartbreaking for him as an actor who has been at the centre stage to move away.

Abhishek said, "It is heartbreaking to any actor who has been centre stage to be shadowed by another actor in the lead."

"The industry is a brutal place. I don't think anyone is entitled to say that I am who I am so I deserve this. No, you have to earn it. Moving from centre to left is heartbreaking but you have to use that hurt to inspire yourself to get back into the centre again," he added.

Abhishek said, "It is heartbreaking to any actor who has been centre stage to be shadowed by another actor in the lead." "The industry is a brutal place. I don't think anyone is entitled to say that I am who I am so I deserve this. No, you have to earn it. Moving from centre to left is heartbreaking but you have to use that hurt to inspire yourself to get back into the centre again," he added. Dadasaheb Phalke Excellence Awards winners' list: Who won what

Rajkummar Rao starrer Omertà was scheduled to release on April 20th but will now release on May 4th. The makers kept everyone guessing but finally disclosed the reason for the new release date on Thursday.

Director Hansal Mehta says, "We knew that it wouldn't be a cake walk with the Censor Board given that the film has a fair bit of violence and strong language. We didn't want cuts that would take away the essence of the film, so we had to wait. The Censor Board Chief and members of the revising committee understood how certain scenes could not be removed since they are essential for audiences to understand how a terrorist's mind works. Hence the wait and that's why a decision has been taken to release Omertà on May 4th."

Producer Nahid Khan added, "The team was waiting for CBFC’s clearance for the film. We’re happy to announce May 4th as the release date for Omertà. We know audiences are eagerly awaiting the film's release. It's just a small change of two weeks. We don't mind the delay as long as we have managed to keep the essence of the film intact."

Omertà is the horrifying true story of one of the most dreaded terrorists of our times. Shot in real locations across London and India, the film exposes the real and present danger of Pakistan sponsored terror. Woven around some of the most bloody terror attacks in recent history including the 9/11 world trade center attacks, the Mumbai Terror Strike and the brutal beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl, Omertà is a thriller that looks into the journey of an evil mind. The film premiered to excellent reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival 2017 followed by the Busan International Film Festival and a very successful screening as the closing film at the Mumbai Film Festival 2017.

Rajkummar said, "I think it (Omerta) was even more difficult than Trapped. That film was physically taxing but this one mentally shook me up.
Speaking about the film at a media event, director Hansal Mehta said, "Omertà takes a look at this complex paradox of a man called Omar Saeed Sheikh. It was a difficult subject to choose and a challenge to make. However, with an actor like Rajkummar, no challenge seems insurmountable and this was the ideal film to hurtle us out of our comfort zone to make something that is uncomfortable. But that is the burden of truth - it is uncomfortable and it must be faced. The film looks at what it means to be a fundamentalist and for someone to pick up a gun with the intent of killing in return for an afterlife in Paradise. I want to leave the viewer with a sense of awe, disgust, hate, surprise and let them examine the ramifications of these events on their lives today."

Playing the role of a character who is visibly negative (being one of the deadliest terrorists of our times), Rajkummar at the event said, “Omertà is among the most researched films that I have worked on till date. We actually visited some of the places frequented by Omar in London during his transformation from an LSE graduation student to becoming this deadly terrorist. I needed to feel and touch this man’s past - to ingest him. It was not an easy journey for me to take. With Omertà and Hansal Sir, we have a combination that will probably leave you stunned. There will be this moment of shock and silence as the end credits roll."

Shot in real locations across London and India while recreating Pakistan and Afghanistan Hansal Mehta's Omertà exposes the real and present danger of Pakistan sponsored terror. Woven around some of the most bloody terror attacks in recent history including the 9/11 world trade center attacks, the Mumbai Terror Strike and the brutal beheading of American journalist Daniel Pearl, Omertà is a thriller that looks into the journey of an evil mind. The film premiered to excellent reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival 2017 followed by the Busan International Film Festival and a very successful screening of the closing film at the Mumbai Film Festival 2017. Produced by Swiss Entertainment in association with Karma Media and directed by Hansal Mehta, Omertà starring Rajkummar Rao releases on April 20th, 2018.

She is currently working on a film titled 'Mental Hai Kya' with Rajkummar Rao -- posters of which were released recently

Kangana Ranaut will next be seen opposite Rajkummar Rao in Mental Hai Kya -- for the second time after they were first paired together in hit film Queen. To go on floors next month, the film has already generated quite a buzz with the release of its whacky posters featuring both the actors in never-seen-before roles. Speaking about the film in an interview with a daily, Kangana said: “The way my life unfolded in the past few years, I realised there was so much stigma attached to being different. ‘Mental’ or ‘psycho’ were the terms used to shame me, but these can’t be used casually as swear words. Kangana Ranaut: 'Mental' or 'psycho' were the terms used to shame me

Queen's hit Jodi Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao is now back with another film 'Mental Hai Kya'.

As we informed yesterday about the release of first posters of the film, the makers have now released two more -- with Kangana and Rajkummar posing whackier than before.

Released today, in one poster Kangana can be seen posing in what looks like a crime scene wearing a silver coloured bikini. She lies on the chalk outline which is used to mark a dead body. Meanwhile, Rajkummar has tape all over his face as he winks with an eye at the camera (or maybe, us?)

'Mental Hai Kya' is a quirky thriller starring Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao

Queen's hit Jodi Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao is now back with another film 'Mental Hai Kya'. As we informed yesterday about the release of first posters of the film, the makers have now released two more -- with Kangana and Rajkummar posing whackier than before. Released today, in one poster Kangana can be seen posing in what looks like a crime scene wearing a silver coloured bikini. She lies on the chalk outline which is used to mark a dead body. Meanwhile, Rajkummar has tape all over his face as he winks with an eye at the camera (or maybe, us?) Have a look at the recently released posters: They are coming to add "IN" to your sanity!
