Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis Saturday ordered an in-depth inquiry into the incident of wall collapse in Pune, in which 15 people were killed.

Fifteen people have died in Pune after a portion of the wall of a residential building collapsed early this morning after heavy rain. Among the dead four children and a woman. Visuals showed several cars stuck in debris in Pune's Kondhwa area. The wall crashed down into tin sheds next to the apartment complex, taking down the parked cars as the ground caved in. The sheds were built for labourers working at a construction site nearby.

The court, however, later refused the CBI's plea to extend their custody to the probe agency and sent Punalekar and Bhave in judicial remand on June 4.

Later, Punalekar's counsel moved a bail application and while the argument on it was underway, the CBI on Thursday sought his custody to question him about some "incriminating documents and information" retrieved from his laptop which was seized by the central agency at the time of his arrest.&nbsp;

Teenaged rookie Kshitij Naveed Kaul of Delhi, playing only his ninth event as a professional, displayed maturity way beyond his years to shoot a final round of four-under-67 that helped him register a one-shot victory at the Pune Open Golf Championship 2019.

18-year-old Kaul’s (69-67-66-67) triumph at the Poona Club Golf Course saw him close the week with a total of 15-under-269 and made him the third-youngest winner on the TATA Steel PGTI after Karandeep Kochhar and Shubhankar Sharma both of whom won on the tour as 17-year-olds.

Mysore's Yashas Chandra (68-68-68-66) carded the last day’s best score of five-under-66 to finish a close second at 14-under-270 at the Rs 30 lakh event.

Kshitij Naveed Kaul, the round three joint leaders, had a topsy-turvy final round as he struggled to achieve accuracy with his tee shots. However, former India No 1 in the junior and amateur category, managed to salvage the day with his brilliant short-game.

First, it was Kaul’s outstanding chipping that earned him birdies from tough positions on the sixth, ninth and 12th even as he dropped a bogey on the 11th. His chip-in on the 12th was his third of the tournament.

The pro from the Delhi Golf Club then gave a glimpse of some top-class putting as he sank birdies from 15 and 30 feet on the 14th and 15th respectively despite a couple of ordinary tee shots on those holes.

The bogey on the 16th didn’t deter the 6-foot tall Kshitij as he showcased his calm temperament and nerves of steel once again with the decisive birdie on the 18th where he found the green in two and two-putted to avoid a playoff with nearest rival Yashas Chandra.

Kshitij, who became richer by Rs 4,84,950, thus climbed from fifth to third place in the TATA Steel PGTI Order of Merit. His earnings for the season now read Rs 11,59,650.

Kaul at 18 years and four months also became the third-youngest player to win on the PGTI after Karandeep Kochhar who achieved the feat at 17 years and five months in Kolkata in 2016 and Shubhankar Sharma who did the same at 17 years and eight months in Kochi in 2014.

Kaul, who had posted two top-5s including a runner-up finish earlier in the season, said, ''My hitting was all over the place today but I did really well within 100 yards of the green. My chipping and putting got me out of trouble on a number of occasions today. I attribute my win to good course management and perfect execution of my plans and strategy.''

''The birdie chip-in on the 12th gave me a lot of self-belief. That set the tone for the remaining holes. I wasn’t following the leaderboard and only looked at it after walking onto the 18th green. So I was quite relaxed through the round,'' said Kshitij a winner of four titles at the amateur level and 40 at the junior level.

''On day one I incurred a two-shot penalty after hitting some other player’s ball. But I didn’t let that error affect my thought process. I also finished with a flurry of birdies yesterday that helped my confidence. I think those were two important moments in the week for me,'' Kshitij said.

''A win so early in my career is a huge morale-booster. I was encouraged by the presence of my mother and maternal grandfather during the tournament. I dedicate this win to an aunt of mine who passed away last week,'' Kshitij added.

Yashas Chandra’s bogey-free 66 helped him gain two spots and finish runner-up. The 2018 PGTI Emerging Player of the Year had taken the lead on the final day when he made his fifth birdie of the round on the 13th. He missed a hole-in-one by one foot on the 13th.

However, Yashas slowed down thereafter with pars all the way till the end. He narrowly missed a birdie on the last as his putt stopped inches from the hole. A birdie there could’ve taken him into a playoff with Kaul.

Bengaluru’s Syed Saqib Ahmed (70) and round three joint leaders Shankar Das (72) of Kolkata took a share of third place at 10-under-274.

Pravin Pathare and Pratik Nirmale had the best finish among the Pune-based professionals. The duo closed the week in tied 24th at one-over-285.

The Comptroller and Auditor General has refused to disclose details about its audit in <a href="http://www.wionews.com/opinions/supreme-court-verdicts-on-sabarimala-and-rafale-are-blessings-for-bjp-189362">the controversial Rafale aircraft deal</a>, saying the process is not yet complete and any disclosure at this stage will amount to a breach of the Parliament's privilege, an RTI reply said.

In its response to Pune-based activist Vihar Durve who had sought the report from CAG, the country's auditor said, "The audit is under progress and the report is yet to be finalised. The information cannot be given under Section 8(1)(C) of the RTI Act as the disclosure would cause breach of Parliament".&nbsp;

Section 8(1)(C) of the Right To Information (RTI) Act exempts information the disclosure of which would cause a breach of privilege of Parliament or the State Legislature.

Last month, the Supreme Court had dismissed pleas challenging the deal between India and France for<a href="http://www.wionews.com/india-news/rafale-deal-pm-modi-launches-stinging-counter-attack-questions-middleman-michels-role-189459"> procurement of 36 Rafale jets</a>, saying there was no occasion to "really doubt the decision making process" warranting setting aside of the contract.

It rejected the pleas seeking lodging of an FIR and a court-monitored probe alleging irregularities in the Rs 58,000 crore deal, in which both the countries have entered into an inter-governmental agreement (IGA).

"The pricing details have, however, been shared with the Comptroller and&nbsp;Auditor General (CAG), and the report of the CAG has been examined by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Only a redacted portion of the report was placed before the Parliament and is in public domain," the bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had said, relying on the sealed note submitted by the government.

After the Congress raised the issue that no such CAG report had been placed before the PAC, the government approached the court seeking changes in the judgment.

In the application, the Centre said the two sentences in paragraph 25 of the judgement appeared to have been based on the note submitted by it along with the pricing details in a sealed cover but indicated the words used by the court lent a different meaning.&nbsp;

The Centre made it clear that it did not say that the CAG report was examined by PAC or a redacted portion was placed before Parliament. It clarified that the note had said the government "has already shared" the price details with the CAG, which was written in past tense and "is factually correct".&nbsp;

However, where it was stated by the Centre in the note that the report of the CAG "is" examined by the PAC, was a description of the procedure which is followed in the normal course, but in the judgement, 'is' was replaced with the words 'has been', according to the application.&nbsp;

In its response to the RTI application filed by Durve, the CAG also refused to share its correspondence related to the audit of Rafale deal with any government department or political party, claiming that such records were "confidential and held in fiduciary capacity" hence, exempted from disclosure under the RTI Act.&nbsp;

The CAG added that audit in the Indian Air Force is done by designated principal audit officer of the force and the reports are submitted to the national auditor for approval.&nbsp;

The country's auditor said, 'The information cannot be given under Section 8(1)(C) of the RTI Act as the disclosure would cause breach of Parliament.'

"The pricing details have, however, been shared with the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), and the report of the CAG has been examined by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). Only a redacted portion of the report was placed before the Parliament and is in public domain," the bench led by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi had said, relying on the sealed note submitted by the government. After the Congress raised the issue that no such CAG report had been placed before the PAC, the government approached the court seeking changes in the judgment. In its response to the RTI application filed by Durve, the CAG also refused to share its correspondence related to the audit of Rafale deal with any government department or political party, claiming that such records were "confidential and held in fiduciary capacity" hence, exempted from disclosure under the RTI Act. The CAG added that audit in the Indian Air Force is done by designated principal audit officer of the force and the reports are submitted to the national auditor for approval.

The 51-year-old actor has featured in many Bollywood films, including "Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!", "Dil To Pagal Hai", "Saajan" and "Devdas".

In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP had snatched the Pune Lok Sabha seat from the Congress, with Anil Shirole winning by a margin of over three lakh votes.

"We are shocked to note that for a period of six years, the state government has allowed the MCA to draw water from the Pavana river for industrial purposes when admittedly the MCA is not running any industry. The water is being used for the stadium," the court said in its order.

"The government's action violates the principles of equitable distribution. The government is a trustee of water available in rivers," it said.

The bench was hearing a public interest litigation filed by an NGO, 'Loksatta Movement', in 2016 raising concerns over water usage for ground management during the IPL when the state was reeling in drought.

The state government's action is contrary to its water policy which is divided into five categories on the basis of priority, the court said. 
As per the government's water policy, supply of water for drinking and agricultural purposes falls in the first category, supply of water for recreation purposes falls under the second last category and the supply of water for events such as 'Shahi Snan' and others fall in the last category.

The court, in its order, noted that cricket matches, including the IPL tournament, would fall in the category of recreation.

The court accepted the statement of the Mumbai Cricket Association, which manages the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai, that it would not be seeking any additional water supply from the BMC for ground maintenance during the IPL matches this year.

It also accepted the affidavit filed by the BMC stating that there will not be any additional water supply to the Wankhede stadium for the IPL tournament.

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) services on Thursday announced an extension of Super Priority Visa service (SPV) to Pune and Bengaluru.

The decision will help Indians get a visa decision in 24 hours or less.

It will act as an optional service for citizens in India who need to travel to UK on urgent basis.

"SPV applications are assessed to exactly the same high standard as all other applications but are handled by UKVI at the highest priority, with dedicated staff members processing cases at the front of the queue and an express courier service ensuring quick return to the customer. This means that the 24-hour turnaround is achievable and secure," stated an official British High Commission release.

Other than Pune and Bengaluru this specialized service would also be available in Delhi, Chennai and Mumbai.

"I am pleased that the Super Priority Visa service is being extended to even more Indian cities, giving many more UK visa customers the opportunity to receive a visa decision in 24 hours or less if needed," said Immigration Minister, Caroline Nokes.

Nokes also said that India is the "first country in the world to receive this service in 2013."

The British High Commission, in the release also stated the extension of this service aims to support the UK-India Technology Partnership, which will include establishing 'tech clusters' in these strategically important cities.

This announcement is part of a wider package of measures from UKVI as it seeks to bring about a marked improvement of its visa service, which includes greater use of digital technology and additional optional services for customers.

Prashant Kumar, a mechanical engineer from Arrah, Bihar and Ben Reid-Howells, a teacher from Canada, have joined hands to undertake a unique journey to cover the distance from Pune to Scotland. Kumar and Howells met last year at a workshop and instantly bonded over their interest of peacebuilding. "We are from different countries still we are brothers. We met in Pune, we were under different projects for peace and education. Right now we are going from Bihar to Nepal. We got a lot of support of the people," Ben said. The duo has now decided to take a bike ride and carry out a series of projects under "Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam -- one world one family". "We thought this would send a better message and decided to carry it forward. This trip is of two years. This is the project driven motorcycle ride," Prashant noted. The duo will ride to Nepal traversing through Tibet, China, Central Asia and Europe before finally ending their journey at Edinburgh, Scotland. The city-based Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) wants artists and technicians from movie industries across the globe to come here and use its expertise to hone their skills.

The FTII has requested the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to identify countries from where it can invite artists and technicians to take help of the prestigious institute&#39;s expertise in film training and education.

In the last nine months, the FTII has successfully conducted several short-term courses, like film appreciation, screen acting, digital cinematography, screenplay writing and fiction writing, in various institutions across the country for the film and TV industries, said the institute&#39;s director, Bhupendra Kainthola.

&quot;Besides, a group of 20 actors from Nepal has been undergoing a short course in &#39;screen acting&#39; here in the institute, which is the first initiative one of its kind by the Ministry of External Affairs,&quot; he said.

The FTII is regarded as a centre of excellence across the world and the films made by its students have been well received in festivals in India and abroad, apart from winning various national and international awards, he said.

The institute has a long list of prominent alumni, including filmmakers Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Girish Kasaravalli and Vidhu Vinod Chopra, and actors Om Puri, Naseeruddin Shah, Jaya Bachchan and Shabana Azmi.

&quot;The FTII alumni have left an indelible imprint on all facets of the Indian cinema and television and have built an excellent reputation worldwide too,&quot; the director said.

&quot;With these strengths, we now want to go international and have a global footprint,&quot; he said.

&quot;We have approached the MEA and expressed our willingness to conduct short courses for artists and technicians from other countries, specially in Asia and Africa,&quot; he said.

Kainthola said the Indian embassy in Nepal had approached the FTII to consider facilitating a short course for some of the actors from the Himalayan nation.

With the help of the MEA, the 20-day course in &#39;screen acting&#39; for 20 actors - 12 male and eight female - from Nepal started recently, he said.

&quot;It is up to the MEA which countries to choose. If we get a green signal, we will barely need a month&#39;s time to finalise the nitty-gritty of the project,&quot; Kainthola said.

&quot;Since all these short courses will be customised, if given a go ahead, we would first seek profiles of the target participants and according to their needs, the course material will be designed or modified,&quot; he added.

Siddharth Shasta, an associate professor in the FTII&#39;s acting department and the coordinator of the short course for the Nepalese actors, said their core staff will not be working on these training programmes.

&quot;We have trained resources in the form of our alumni and they have been given the responsibility to conduct such courses,&quot; he said.

Right now, the 20 actors, aged between 25 and 35, who have taken up the course at the FTII, are all established names in the Nepal&#39;s film industry.

Some of these actors belong to families traditionally associated with the Nepalese film industry and others have worked in TV serials, commercials, music videos and theatre, Shasta said.

Nepalese actor Sabina Gopali, currently undergoing the course at the FTII, said she is confident that the training programme will benefit her in professional and personal life.

Another Nepalese film actor, Kamal Raj Bhatta, said he never came across such methods of acting in his country.

He is hopeful that the course will enhance his acting skills.&nbsp;

3 members of anti-virginity group thrashed in Pune

Swedish home furnishing major Ikea has opened a Rs 100-crore distribution centre in Pune, and is also scouting for land in Maharashtra to build more facilities at an investment of Rs 750 crore, a senior company executive has said.

&quot;We have opened a 2.3 lakh sq ft distribution centre in Pune, on leased land and have pumped in Rs 100 crore into this. We will expand this to 3.7 lakh sq ft by next year,&quot; Bimal Patel, the manager, distribution operations at Ikea India, told.

&quot;We are also scouting for more land in Maharashtra to build our own warehousing facilities over the next two to three years, and have earmarked an outlay of Rs 750 crore for this,&quot; he said.

The distribution centre has been set up to service its first store scheduled to be opened in Hyderabad by the middle of the year, followed by the second store in Mumbai in 2019.

The company has also purchased land in Bengaluru and Gurgaon to open more outlets. Ikea India plans to set up 25 stores by 2025, investing Rs 10,500 crore.

The company has so far hired 100 people for its distribution operations in Pune, and is looking to employ at least 200 more there.

&quot;We have hired about 100 people and 50 per cent of them are women. We are looking to hire another 200 people once our distribution operations are running in full steam,&quot; he said.

The company will employ 600-700 people per unit, he said.

Ikea will operate a non-bonded warehouse for domestic goods, and a custom warehouse which will stock imported goods, Patel said.

Last year, Ikea India had committed to double its local sourcing from Euro 318 million to Euro 600 million by 2020.

According to the retail policy, the overseas companies have to mandatorily source 30 per cent of their wares locally, preferably from small suppliers.

A 56-year-old builder was allegedly shot dead by two unidentified men outside his residence in Deccan-Gymkhana area here, police said today.

The assailants fired five rounds at Devendra Shah in front of his son on the plush Prabhat Road around midnight last night. Two of the bullets hit Shah, an official said.

Police have retrieved a CCTV camera footage of the area in which the two assailants are seen.

The two assailants came near the building in which Shah resided in Lane No. 7 on Prabhat Road and started arguing with a man who runs a laundry business there.

&quot;One of the assailants asked the laundry man to summon Shah. The shop owner then called the builder down,&quot; Additional Commissioner of Police (South/North region) Ravindra Sengaonkar said.

The moment Shah came down with his son, both the assailants fired five rounds at the builder, he said.

&quot;Two bullets hit Shah. The assailants then fled from the spot,&quot; said Sengaonkar.

The builder was rushed to a nearby private hospital where he succumbed during treatment.

&quot;We have got the CCTV camera footage in which the two assailants are clearly seen coming,&quot; the officer said, adding that the assailants had not covered their faces.

Shah&#39;s son told the police his father did not have enmity with anyone, Sengaonkar said. The motive behind the killing was yet to be ascertained, he said.

India produced a professional performance under pressure to beat New Zealand by six wickets in a must-win game and level three-match series 1-1 here today.

Paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3/45) led an inspired Indian bowling effort to restrict New Zealand to a modest 230 for nine. Later, Shikhar Dhwawan (68 off 84 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (64 not out off 92) struck timely half-centuries, enabling the hosts to complete the chase in 46 overs.

Paceman Jaydev Unadkat revelled in a five-wicket haul that included a hat-trick as Rising Pune Supergiant eked out a 12-run win over Sunrisers Hyderabad to jump to the second spot in IPL, here today. 
 
Defending a modest 148, the Pune outfit came up with a superb bowling performance with Unadkat (5/30) and Ben Stokes (3/30) doing the maximum damage, especially in the final overs to restrict Hyderabad to 136 for nine in 20 overs. 
 
Unadkat took a hat-trick in the final over of the match when Hyderabad needed 13 runs, to shut the door on the hosts. 
 
He sent back Bipul Sharma, Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the second, third and fourth deliveries of the 20th over respectively. It was third hat-trick of the season. 
 
At one stage, defending champions were cruising along comfortably when veteran Yuvraj Singh (47) and skipper David Warner (40) were at the crease. 
 
The duo put on 54 runs together for the third wicket before Warner departed for 40 which was studded with four hits to the fence and a six. 
 
Yuvraj continued to play his shots but failed to take the team all the way home, falling for 43-ball 47 that included four boundaries and two sixes, with the scorecard reading 117 for five. 
 
After Yuvraj&#39;s departure, 32 more runs needs for victory and as many as five wickets in hand, but no lower-order batsmen seem to show any resistance, even as Unadkat took three successive wickets in the final over to wrap up the match in Pune&#39;s favour. 
 
Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad dished out a tidy bowling performance, led by Siddarth Kaul, to restrict Rising Pune Supergiant to a modest 148 for eight. 
 
The Hyderabad bowlers dominated the proceedings from the word go after inviting the Pune outfit to take first strike with Kaul returning impressive figures of four for 29 from his four overs, while Rashid Khan (1/18) and Bipul Sharma (1/39) took a wicket apiece. 
 
The Supergiant found the going tough and lost both their openers -- Ajinkya Rahane (22) and Rahul Tripathi (1) -- early and were struggling at 39 for two in the seventh over. 
 
Skipper Steve Smith (34) and Ben Stokes (39) though steadied the rocking boat, putting on 60 runs together for the third wicket, they failed to up the ante. 
 
While Stokes tried to accelerate the innings, Smith just could not get going as he took 39 balls for his 34, which neither had a boundary nor a six. 
 
Stokes top-scored with a 25-ball 39 that included one four and three sixes. 
 
In the end, Mahendra Singh Dhoni tried to increase the tempo in the final few overs before he got out for a well-made 31 off 21 balls, which was studded with two fours and as many sixes. 
 
However, the batsmen at the other end could not provide adequate support to the former India skipper with the home team bowlers managing to tightened the noose further. 
 
The last two overs saw three Pune batsmen getting out that included the prized wicket of Dhoni.

IPL: Pune's Smith plays captain's knock to beat Mumbai

A 26-year-old security guard has been apprehended in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old woman IT professional from Infosys, who was found dead last night in a conference room of the company in Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park at Hinjawadi in Pune, police said on Monday.

&quot;On the basis of the CCTV footage from the company premises and other clues, we zeroed down on a security guard from Assam, who after the incident, fled and now has been held in Mumbai,&quot; said Arun Waikar, the senior police inspector with Hinjawadi Police Station.

The suspect has been identified as Bhabhen Saikia, who was deployed as a guard at the Infosys unit, and is being brought to Pune, he said.

OP Rasila from Kerala, who was working as a system engineer with Infosys was found dead after she was allegedly strangulated with the help of a computer cord and was hit hard on the face, police said.

According to police, the incident might have taken place at around 5 pm, but police received the call around 8 pm&nbsp;last night.

ACP Vaishali Jadhav-Mane had said on Sunday night that the techie was working in the conference room on the ninth floor of Infosys&#39;s Phase-II campus whereas her two team mates were online from Bangalore.

&quot;Her manager was trying to call her, but there was no response. He then called and asked a security guard to go and check, and when the security guard went to see her, the woman was found lying on the floor in an unconscious state in the conference room,&quot; the officer had said.

An offence has been registered under the section of 302 (murder) and further investigation is on, said police adding the process of post mortem is underway.

India named six new Test venues today as they prepare to host New Zealand, England and then top-ranked Australia in an exhaustive home season starting in October. 
 
India will kickstart the season against New Zealand with three Tests and five One-Day Internationals, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said. 
 
England then arrive for five Tests and six limited-overs matches, while the Australia series is scheduled for February and March next year. 
 
Bangladesh will also play a one-off Test during the season, their first such outing in India since they gained Test status in 2000. 
 
The cities of Rajkot, Visakhapatnam, Pune, Dharamsala, Ranchi and Indore will host Test matches for the first time, the BCCI said after a meeting in Mumbai. 
 
&quot;I welcome the new Test venues. Their arrival will take Test match cricket to every corner of the country,&quot; BCCI president Anurag Thakur said in a statement. 
 
India will play 13 Tests in total during the season, the most since the 1979-80 home season, along with eight ODIs and three T20 Internationals.
