India batsman Prithvi Shaw has been ruled out of next week's first Test against Australia after the young opener injured his ankle while fielding during a tour match in Sydney on Friday, according to the country's cricket board (BCCI).

"But it I was a great experience in England. They made feel really comfortable. Virat bhai told me there is no senior or junior in the team. It was nice sharing the dressing room with players who have played international cricket for more than five years. Everyone is a friend now."

He was expectedly nervous before the game but getting to spend time with his senior teammates during the England series helped him approach his debut like "any other game".

His first runs came off his typical back-foot punch and he never looked back from there, playing a top-quality innings comprising 19 fours.

"I was nervous at the start but settled down after I timed a few nicely. After that, I didn't feel the pressure that I felt at the start of the innings. I like to dominate bowlers and that is what I was trying to do, waiting for the loose balls," he said.

Having scored a hundred on Ranji and Duleep Trophy debut, Shaw did the same at the highest level. When asked, Shaw was modest about rising to the occasion timing and again.

"I don't know how I manage but whenever go in the middle, I try to play to the merit of the ball and even in this game I went in with the same mindset. I did not try anything new thinking it is my first Test. Played the same way I have played India A and domestic cricket.

"Having said that, there is a lot of difference if you compare international cricket with the U-19 and domestic cricket. They come with a lot of strategies in international cricket. You face bowlers with a lot more pace. Sometimes you face serious pace in domestic cricket but here is a lot more variety and experience," said Shaw who looked comfortable against Shanon Gabriel even though he was touching 150kph.

The year could not have turned out better for Shaw, who led India to the U-19 World Cup title in New Zealand, made his IPL debut before finally getting his big break on Thursday. He dedicated the hundred to his father, who raised him as a single parent after his mother passed way when he was just four.

"I never thought of making my India debut right after the U-19 win. I took it match by match. It finally happened today. I dedicate this innings to my father.

He has made a lot of sacrifice for me. I cannot even describe it now.

"I was thinking about my dad, as he has sacrificed a lot for me. Whenever I scored a hundred I thought of him and this is my first Test hundred, it's all for him."

"It is a good opportunity particularly for youngsters like Prithivi, Mayank and Siraj as they have all done well in domestic cricket. So as a batsman they can score runs, as a bowler they can pick wickets. It is all about going out there and giving your best without thinking much about future," he added.

After a disappointing outing in England, Rahane lead Mumbai to victories over Baroda, Karnataka and Railways in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last month and he said it provided him good match practice ahead of the West Indies series.

"After coming back from England, I was just looking to do well for Mumbai at that point of time and get some match practice (although it was white ball cricket) ahead of the West Indies series. Vijay Hazare was a good match practice for me," said Rahane.&nbsp;

"I always believe whether it is a domestic, international or practice match, it brings a different pressure and I think it helped me to prepare. I am really confident and looking forward to do well and keep contributing towards my team."

India will need to quickly adapt to the different yet familiar home conditions at home to dominate the two-Test series against West Indies, feels the Indian vice-captain.

India had failed to bring their best in English conditions, losing the five-Test series 1-4 last month.

"Here we have to see how the wicket behaves, it is hot here, so we have to adapt to the conditions quickly during the practice sessions," Rahane said.

"We know the Indian conditions and we know how to go about our job and what shots to play here. England was different, so we will have to quickly mentally switch.

"Each and every match is equally important and we are just looking to play to our standards, rather than thinking about our opponents. It is important to start off well, we have two practice sessions before the Test match starts," he added.

The 30-year-old Mumbaikar said the focus of the team is to improve its own game without thinking about their opponents.

"It was a great achievement to win Asia Cup and players, who got an opportunity there did well, but this is a new series and we can't take them lightly. We have to focus to improve our own game," said Rahane.

"No matter whom we play, whether it is Australia, England or West Indies, it is important to improve our own standard. Our goal will be to play some good cricket, definitely to dominate from the first match and improvement as a batsman, as a bowler and as a team, that would be the focus."

Indian Premier League (IPL) is all about talent. Over the years it has become a platform for the young cricketers to display fearless and ruthless cricket to the world.&nbsp;Better the talent, the chance of players being selected for the national side are more.&nbsp;

Similarly, the eleventh edition of the IPL has witnessed some tremendous performances by players and have taken this league to a different level.&nbsp;

So, as the season approaches its business end, let's look at the top players who deserve to be promoted to the national team.&nbsp;

1. Ambati Rayudu&nbsp; 
Rayudu, is the most consistent performer for Chennai and his stats is a testament to that. He has scored 423 runs in just 10 games played. He is the first batsman to cross the 400-mark. The orange cap holder has performed at an average of 151.61 to top the list of highest run-getters of the season. Over the years, Rayudu has switched his batting slots and has matured when comes to shot selection, making him a suitable player for the Indian team.&nbsp;

2. Rishabh Pant 
The 20-year-old Delhiite, Pant has taken the IPL by storm with his ability to hit the ball. He cracked a blistering 69 against Rajasthan that gave Delhi a nervy four-run victory at home. He also played a match-winning knock against Mumbai where he scored 47 off just 25 balls. Pant hammered 85 off just 48 balls against Bangalore but couldn't get his team through on that occasion. In 10 games he has scored 393 runs at a strike rate of 173.12. &nbsp;In his innings, he has slammed 41 boundaries and 20 sixes. &nbsp;This score must have certainly impressed the selectors and could very well be in contention to join the Indian cricket brigade. &nbsp;

3. Prithvi Shaw: India's star captain in their successful U-19 World Cup campaign has set batting standards for experienced players in this year's IPL. He showcased his talent and ended up with scores of 94, 57 (not out), 40, 41 and 29. &nbsp;Shaw excels in playing on the front foot, with his cover drives being a joy to watch. His playing capabilities are often compared to cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar. In five matches, he has scored 205 runs, which includes two half-centuries. &nbsp;

But, the 21-year-old top-order batsman from missed out of the India team spot despite being one of the main reasons behind Mumbai’s Ranji triumph this year. Shreyas scored a whopping 1321 runs from 11 matches at an average of 73.38 and with a very impressive strike-rate of 92.70. He also smashed four centuries and seven fifties along with a brilliant double-hundred.&nbsp;

5. Shivam Mavi&nbsp; 
India rarely produces out-and-out fast bowlers, but Shivam Mavi proved in the U-19 World Cup that he could bowl regularly at 140 kph. Mavi performed consistently throughout the World Cup, notably taking 3-45 against Australia and 2-27 against Bangladesh. An opening bowler, Mavi was bought by the Kolkata in the IPL auction and went for a very high 3 crores. So far, he had a decent inning in IPL. In seven matches he has played, Mavi claimed just three wickets abut is surely expected to stand to his billing. Mavi's line and length makes him a perfect piece for the Indian side.

IPL players who deserve a chance in Indian Cricket Team

Team India is on a high at present. Having beaten South Africa 5-1 in the recently concluded ODI series and has also won the first T20I with comfort, they are on a wave of euphoria like very few visiting Indian teams have been in South Africa. One must bear in mind, however, that India&rsquo;s success in the recent ODI series against South Africa has been largely achieved through a combination of great bowling and outstanding batting by the top three.

The story of India&rsquo;s middle-order, however, is a cause for concern. Barring the second T20I, where Manish Pandey and MS Dhoni rescued India, the team&rsquo;s middle-order has struggled in the limited overs matches. Even coach Ravi Shastri has expressed his concerns over this and said that there is a lot of work to be done in this area. &ldquo;It&rsquo;s an area that requires work to be done. The top-order has batted beautifully and our bowlers were phenomenal but the fifth, sixth and the seventh slot in the batting order needs to be worked upon. Once we&rsquo;re done with this series, we&rsquo;ll have to sit down and weigh all options once again very carefully,&rdquo; he was quoted as saying recently.

Indeed, a lot of work has to be done to bolster India&rsquo;s middle-order, especially for ODIs. &nbsp;Of late, the numbers 4, 5, 6 and 7 have been moved around too much and hence the Indian middle-order gives off an unsettled look. Players like Ajinkya Rahane, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jadhav have all been used around in the middle-order with mixed results. Time and time again the top three Indian batsmen have laid the foundation only to find the middle-order botch things up. They have failed to capitalize on the solid starts that the top order has been providing regularly and have been finishing poorly.

Perhaps the first thing the Indian management can do is assign specific positions to the batsmen in the middle-order and let them thrive in it for some time.

India also needs to find a proper finisher. Hardik Pandya, after flourishing for a little while, seems to have fizzled out. In the ODI series against South Africa, Pandya managed just 26 runs at a very poor strike-rate of 74.28. These are discouraging numbers and right now India is in dire need of a hard-hitting finisher who can close the games for the team.&nbsp;

The Dhoni dilemma, too, needs to be addressed. India&rsquo;s veteran wicket-keeper batsman is not the batsman he once used to be and save for a few instances here and there, he generally struggles lower down the order. MS Dhoni flourishes the most in the No.4 or 5 positions and that is where he should be utilized now with the wealth of experience he has. At No.4 and 5, Dhoni averages above 50 and has 5 centuries along with 26 &nbsp;half centuries. Clearly, those are slots that he needs to be given more chances in.

Lastly, the team management should give more opportunities to talented young batsmen like KL Rahul who has been treated rather poorly by the team. He is a class player and has excelled for India in all the formats. He needs to be given more chances. Also, trying out youngsters like Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson, who have been knocking on the doors for a while, along with the 2018 U-19 World Cup stars, Prithvi Shaw and Shubhnam Gill, can be a good idea as well.

The 2019 World Cup is not very far now. India&rsquo;s top order and bowling unit looks pretty solid and settled. The only chink in their armour is their sagging middle-order. The time for team India to experiment and sort out their middle-order woes is now.&nbsp;

Having beaten South Africa 5-1 in the recently concluded ODI series and has also won the first T20I with comfort, they are on a wave of euphoria like very few visiting Indian teams have been in South Africa. One must bear in mind, however, that India’s success in the recent ODI series against South Africa has been largely achieved through a combination of great bowling and outstanding batting by the top three. The story of India’s middle-order, however, is a cause for concern. Barring the second T20I, where Manish Pandey and MS Dhoni rescued India, the team’s middle-order has struggled in the limited overs matches. Even coach Ravi Shastri has expressed his concerns over this and said that there is a lot of work to be done in this area. “It’s an area that requires work to be done. The top-order has batted beautifully and our bowlers were phenomenal but the fifth, sixth and the seventh slot in the batting order needs to be worked upon. Once we’re done with this series, we’ll have to sit down and weigh all options once again very carefully,” he was quoted as saying recently. Indeed, a lot of work has to be done to bolster India’s middle-order, especially for ODIs. Of late, the numbers 4, 5, 6 and 7 have been moved around too much and hence the Indian middle-order gives off an unsettled look. Players like Ajinkya Rahane, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni, Hardik Pandya and Kedar Jadhav have all been used around in the middle-order with mixed results. Time and time again the top three Indian batsmen have laid the foundation only to find the middle-order botch things up. They have failed to capitalize on the solid starts that the top order has been providing regularly and have been finishing poorly. Perhaps the first thing the Indian management can do is assign specific positions to the batsmen in the middle-order and let them thrive in it for some time. India also needs to find a proper finisher. Hardik Pandya, after flourishing for a little while, seems to have fizzled out. In the ODI series against South Africa, Pandya managed just 26 runs at a very poor strike-rate of 74.28. These are discouraging numbers and right now India is in dire need of a hard-hitting finisher who can close the games for the team. The Dhoni dilemma, too, needs to be addressed. India’s veteran wicket-keeper batsman is not the batsman he once used to be and save for a few instances here and there, he generally struggles lower down the order. MS Dhoni flourishes the most in the No.4 or 5 positions and that is where he should be utilized now with the wealth of experience he has. At No.4 and 5, Dhoni averages above 50 and has 5 centuries along with 26 half centuries. Clearly, those are slots that he needs to be given more chances in. Lastly, the team management should give more opportunities to talented young batsmen like KL Rahul who has been treated rather poorly by the team. He is a class player and has excelled for India in all the formats. He needs to be given more chances. Also, trying out youngsters like Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson, who have been knocking on the doors for a while, along with the 2018 U-19 World Cup stars, Prithvi Shaw and Shubhnam Gill, can be a good idea as well. The 2019 World Cup is not very far now. India’s top order and bowling unit looks pretty solid and settled. The only chink in their armour is their sagging middle-order. The time for team India to experiment and sort out their middle-order woes is now. He was always aware that the since this was an U-19 team, the spotlight will always be on him but as usual he was magnanimous in praising the entire support staff comprising of fielding coach Abhay Sharma, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey to name a few.

&quot;Coaching this team, I tend to get a lot of attention, but it is really about the quality of support staff that we have had, there have been seven or eight of us, who have been together for the last 14 months. The effort they put in was incredible,&quot; he said.

Sangha, however, admitted that they were completely outplayed by India in the final.

Prithvi Shaw and Manjot Karla gave a good start for the team but Shaw could not convert his start into a big score and lost his wicket to Will Sutherland after contributing 29 runs for the team.

Manjot Karla and Shubman Gill&nbsp;looked good at a moment but Param Uppal took Gill&#39;s wicket and saw him off.

After Gill&#39;s wicket, Kalra found a determined ally in Harvik Desai and together they scored 89 runs for the team.

Manjot&nbsp;Kalra slammed an award-winning century. The way Kalra was hitting and by looking at his record in previous matches this performance was expected of this young star.

His massive century included 8 fours and 3 sixes.

It was not that Shaw and Klara plundered boundaries, instead, they raised their knocks with some stupendous risk- free batting.

Shaw, though, missed out on a century by six runs as he was caught behind off Will Sutherland, son of former Cricket Australia CEO James Sutherland.

The Indian captain faced 100 balls and scored eight boundaries, including two sixes in his knock.

His opening partner also missed out on a ton, falling for 86 which came off 99 balls with 12 shots to the fence and on over the ropes.

There were no steady partnerships after their departure even as Gill kept one end solid with his 54-ball knock which had six fours and a six.

Coached by the distinguished Rahul Dravid, there is no dearth of talent in the sqaud, and the former India captain&#39;s sprightly boys would have got acclimatised to the conditions by now having arrived many days prior to the start of the tournament.

India are three-time champions, the last triumph coming in 2014.

While Dravid, who has been at the helm of U-19 and India A squad for some time, may not like to focus on individuals, it is very difficult to not see the likes of skipper Prithvi Shaw as the a vital cog in the team&#39;s batting wheel.

Alongside Shaw, who has created ripples with his exploits in the domestic circuit for Mumbai, there is Himanshu Rana, who has also amased plenty of runs in Youth ODIs.

Punjab&#39;s Shubhman Gill at number three is one of the most exciting young batsmen going around, and with a few impressive first-class games this Ranji Trophy season, he will have gained in confidence.

The top-order&#39;s performance is likely to be crucial to India&#39;s chances in the tournament. The middle-order is likely to be manned by Anukul Roy and Abhishek Sharma, and they would certainly want to make heir presence felt.

Another exciting name doing the rounds is Bengal pacer Ishan Porel. With Mohammed Shami rarely turning up for his state team owing to national commitments, Porel has caught the eye in the limited opportunities that came his way.

Porel is set to spearhead the pace attack and he could be complemented by Shivam Mavi, who will be aided by the seaming conditions in this part of the world.

Mavi attracted the attention of the selectors after his performance in the zonal level &#39;Challengers&#39; tournament where he bagged nine wickets in four matches.

His right-arm fast-medium bowling helped India whitewash England in England last year.

Shaw said he is happy with the team&#39;s preparations.

&quot;We&#39;ve been here a week now, played a couple of games. Everything has gone well, the preparation of the team has been good. Our goal is obviously to win the World Cup but at the same time we are looking forward to our first game,&quot; he said.

Asked if there are any Indian players in particular he thinks could have a lot of success at this tournament, Dravid said, We don&#39;t like to focus too much on the individuals. We believe we&#39;ve got a very good squad together and the opportunities for us to play well as a team are there.
