Actress Jennifer Aniston has opened up about her struggle with getting pregnant and IVF treatment for the first time in a candid interview.&nbsp; 
 
For years, rumours suggested that Aniston and Brad Pitt divorced as she chose career over starting a family with the actor. While speaking to Allure magazine recently, Aniston rubbished the reports and stated she did try to get pregnant and that it was a 'challenging road for me, the baby-making road.' 
 
"All the years and years and years of speculation… It was really hard," she noted. "I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would have given anything if someone had said to me, 'Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.' You just don't think it." 
 
Aniston said the assumptions around the cause of her divorce from Pitt in 2005 were hurtful.&nbsp; 
 
"It was absolute lies," said Aniston about the "narrative that I was just selfish... I just cared about my career. And God forbid a woman is successful and doesn't have a child. And the reason my husband left me, why we broke up and ended our marriage, was because I wouldn't give him a kid." 
 
Aniston did not mention the specific years when she tried for IVF and instead just mentioned that she underwent treatment "several years ago." The 'Friends' star said that at 53 she had no regrets on how things worked out in her life. 
 
"Here I am today. The ship has sailed," she said, adding, "I actually feel a little relief now because there is no more, 'Can I?' I don't have to think about that anymore." 
 
"I would say my late 30s, 40s, I'd gone through really hard s***, and if it wasn't for going through that, I would've never become who I was meant to be," said Aniston. "That's why I have such gratitude for all those s***y things. Otherwise, I would've been stuck being this person that was so fearful, so nervous, so unsure of who they were. And now, I don't f***ing care." 
 
Aniston said she felt "best in who I am today, better than I ever did in my 20s or 30s even, or my mid-40s."

Reports of an apple watch saving someone’s life is not new. Over the years, there were several instances where the gadget was able to help people with its features which detect oxygen levels in the blood, heartbeat, and other major health parameters. However, in a first, a woman credited the Apple Watch for detecting her pregnancy in a post on the social media platform Reddit.&nbsp;

"Usually, my resting heart rate is about 57, and my heart rate has increased to 72," she posted.&nbsp;

The woman said that she also took tests for fever and various other diseases but all of them showed nothing. Finally, she went online and decided to take a pregnancy test after some research.&nbsp;

"I read sometimes this happens with early pregnancy and sure enough, instantly, the test was positive."&nbsp;

She also went to a doctor who confirmed that she was indeed pregnant but did not show any conventional symptoms. As a result, she credited the Apple Watch for understanding the minute changes. She ended the post by saying that the heartbeat alerts should be monitored by the users.&nbsp;

Professor Hurst said, “Very many embryos have the wrong number of chromosomes, often 45 or 47, and nearly all of these die in the womb. Even in cases like Down syndrome with three copies of chromosome 21, about 80 per cent sadly will not make it to term." The professor explains, “This first step of making eggs is odd. One chromosome of a pair will go to the egg the other will be destroyed. But if a chromosome `knows` it is going to be destroyed it has nothing to lose, so to speak. Remarkable recent molecular evidence has found that when some chromosomes detect that they are about to be destroyed during this first step, they change what they do to prevent being destroyed, potentially causing chromosome loss or gain, and the death of the embryo." In medical terminology, the occurrence of a second conception during pregnancy is called superfetation. It can happen in just days or weeks after the first one. In simple terms, the condition is the situation when a pregnancy occurs during an existing pregnancy. It gives rise to embryos of different ages in the uterus. This condition is extremely rare in humans.

What is the case of Roe v Wade?

The Supreme Court decided in Roe v Wade in 1973 that the right to an abortion is guaranteed under the US constitution.

Is it possible to overturn it?

With a fresh ruling, a Supreme Court decision can be overturned.

However, such verdicts are uncommon, as most justices are hesitant to depart from the principle of stare decisis, or following precedent.

According to a Quartz analysis, it happened only 161 times in over 9,000 judgements between 1946 and 2020.

Senator Susan Collins testified at Kavanaugh's confirmation hearing that conservative justice Brett Kavanaugh informed her in a closed-door meeting that Roe v Wade was "established law." Kavanaugh was one of the justices who voted in favour of the draft opinion overturning the decision.

How did Roe v Wade come about?

Jane Roe, later identified as Norma McCorvey, was a Texas mother who sought an abortion after becoming pregnant with her third child.

At the time, Texas state law prohibited the procedure unless the woman's life was in danger.

She filed a lawsuit against the government. Meanwhile, Texas Attorney General Henry Wade fought Roe for the state, earning the case the name "Roe v Wade."

McCorvey's lawsuit was one of many brought by pro-abortion rights groups around the country, and it went through multiple hearings and appeals before reaching the Supreme Court.

The court ruled with a 7-2 majority that the Texas law was unconstitutional.

By that time, Roe had already given birth to her third child, but the Supreme Court decided to proceed with the case, ruling her challenge was “capable of repetition” and therefore overcame the “mootness doctrine”.

"There are also predators and traffickers and examples of people who are seeing the tragedy of war as an opportunity to target women and girls," she told AFP.

She said studies estimated that more than 20 percent of displaced women worldwide experience sexual violence -- "and I would bet that is under-reported because there is so much stigma around the issue."

While figures are still sparse a month into the Ukraine war, she said that the conflict in Afghanistan was expected to lead to 4.8 million unintended pregnancies by 2025.

And the Covid-19 crisis has also hugely disrupted healthcare and contraceptive supplies, leading to up to 1.4 million unintended pregnancies in the first year of the pandemic alone, the UNFPA said.
