Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation for the ninth time from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of 76th Independence Day, urged the people to support and promote sports and praised India`s `stellar` performance in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2022. "Our stellar performances at international sporting events are an example of India`s shining talent. We need to promote and support such talent," PM Modi said.

While addressing the nation, the Prime Minister said, "When dreams are big, the hard work is equally strenuous. We need to be inspired by the determination of our freedom fighters who dreamt of a free India. I urge the youth to dedicate the next 25 years of their lives for the development of the nation. We will work towards the development of the entire humanity. That is the strength of India."

Ahead of his speech at the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the National Flag amid a 21-gun salute by the indigenously developed howitzer gun, ATAGS. This was followed by a shower of flower petals from helicopters. Earlier in the day, PM Modi visited Rajghat to pay his respects to Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. Talking about the Indian contingent in the recently concluded Commonwealth Games 2022, India finished 4th in the medal tally winning a total of 61 medals at the CWG 2022, including 22 gold medals, 16 Silver and 23 Bronze medals. Achieving 61 medals this time around holds a lot of significance since the shooting, which is India`s most successful discipline historically with 135 medals, was not included in the games this time. The numbers could have been way higher had it been included.

The Indian contingent also saw some first-time medals like in lawn bowls and cricket. Notably, the women`s cricket team was sent as a part of the contingent. India lost to Australia by a narrow margin of nine runs in a thrilling final. India dominated contact and strength-based sports of weightlifting, wrestling and boxing. The country`s contingent won 12 medals in wrestling, its most successful sport in the 2022 edition of the multi-sport event. India captured medals in every category in which its stars wrestled. This includes six gold medals as well by Bajrang Punia, Ravi Dahiya, Deepak Punia, Sakshi Malik, Vinesh Phogat and Naveen.

It has caught the imagination and fancy of most enthusiasts, not just in India but abroad too. The average Elo of this team is 2649 but their ability to score over fancied opponents in the past six months place them as strong contenders for the medal.

The top Indian team, comprising Vidit Gujrathi, Pentala Harikrishna, Arjun Erigaisi, SL Narayanan and Krishnan Saiskiran, has experience and strength combined. Arjun and Narayanan are making their debut. Arjun has been hovering tantalisingly close to the Elo 2700 mark and Narayanan exhibits an enviable positional and solid style. The women`s team with Koneru Humpy, D Harika, R Vaishali, Tania Sachdev and Bhakti Kulkarni are given top billing with an average Elo of 2487 and are firm favourites. Ukraine (2478) and Georgia (2475), on the other hand, are too close for comfort and India need good performances each day to gun for gold.

The other Indian teams, too, have the potential to notch upsets and with no pressure, they have the ability to snatch a medal.

India's new parliament building is under construction in New Delhi, which is a part of India's Central Vista Research Project. The existing parliament house is just opposite the new building. The proposals for building a new parliament started in 2010 after concerns were raised regarding the building's stability. The present parliament house was built in the colonial era, designed by British architects Herbert Baker and Sir Edwin Lutyens. It took six years to build. According to the central vista government's site, the construction of the new building has till now used 24,605 mt steel, 57,225 mt cement, and 8,431 cubic meters of fly ash. The government has also given information about the interior of the building, which would have the three national symbols as their main themes, peacock, lotus, and the banyan tree. It is triangular in shape and will be four-storeyed. It will open in the later winter of this year.

Which Company builds the new parliament building?

The new parliament building is constructed by Tata Projects Limited. It won the bid to build the new parliament in September 2020 for ₹862 crores. The construction started in December 2020. The architect in charge is Bimal Patel and according to him the building will have a lifespan of over 150 years and it will also be earthquake resistant. Seats would also have larger spacing in between and be comfortable.

Seating Capacity of the new parliament building

The new parliament building will have a seating capacity of 1,224. It has 384 seats in the Rajya Sabha and 888 seats in the Lok Sabha chamber. It is also made techno-friendly and screens will be installed on the tables for each MP so that they can vote with its help and also can request for speaking and raising a point in the house. The seats would also have enough gaping unlike the ones in the old parliament building.

What is the new parliament building design based on?

The design of the Parliament building will showcase the culture and spirit of India so that people can associate them with it better. Yoga, Vedas, folk, and Sufi culture will also be included in the design. Lok Sabha is based on the peacock design, which is India's national bird. The Rajya Sabha will be designed on the lotus theme, which is India's national flower and the Central Lounge will be based on banyan tree design. The interior walls of the new building would have shlokas written on them. It will be crowned by the National Emblem.

Ashok Symbol in the new parliament building

The Ashok Symbol would be placed on top of the new parliament building. It weighs around 9,500 kilograms and is 6.5 meters high, while the supporting structure weighs around 6,500 kgs. It is made of bronze and took over 100 people to be built. Prime Minister Narendra Modi unveiled the National Emblem on July 11. It is three-dimensional and has gone through many different stages of preparations and trials to be built completely.

Why opposition is criticizing PM Modi?

Opposition parties including Congress, CPI(M), and AIMIM are criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying that the inauguration of the National Emblem has violated the constitution as according to the constitution there should be a separation of power between the Executive and the Legislature. Some are even saying that why PM Modi conducted a pooja before the inauguration and not called priests of other religions. Congress said that the "change is visible now", while Aam Admi Party also criticized the government saying that if someone is changing the national symbol, they should be called "anti-national". But, BJP has dismissed the criticism that they are receiving from the opposition

The new parliament building will be completed by the end of this year. The modern and techno-friendly designs of the building with more comfortable seating arrangements will be beneficial for the MPs. People all over the country are excited to see the final structure of the building.

Seating Capacity of the new parliament building The new parliament building will have a seating capacity of 1,224. Ashok Symbol in the new parliament building The Ashok Symbol would be placed on top of the new parliament building. But, BJP has dismissed the criticism that they are receiving from the opposition The new parliament building will be completed by the end of this year. The modern and techno-friendly designs of the building with more comfortable seating arrangements will be beneficial for the MPs. People all over the country are excited to see the final structure of the building. WATCH WION LIVE HERE You can now write for wionews.com and be a part of the community. Indian and Turkish diplomats met after a four-year pause for political consultation in Ankara on June 10. For a long time, both countries have been looking at their relations only within their bilateral merits, but in recent years, India has become more active in the entire Indian Ocean region, including the Persian Gulf and Indo-Pacific. And, Turkiye has also been active in Central Asia and Eurasia, reconnecting with the Turkic population and cultures forming the Organization of Turkic States. India and Turkiye trade is reaching a nearly $10 billion benchmark, and India-Turkiye commercial and tourism relations have been increasing, therefore both countries cannot avoid a wider political consultation.

As reported by ANI, the Eleventh Session of India-Turkey Foreign Office Consultations (FOCs) was held in Ankara where both the countries agreed to hold the next round of consultations in the former country on mutually convenient dates next year. Minister of External Affairs Secretary (West), Sanjay Verma, led the Indian delegation for the FOC. During the consultations, both the countries exchanged their views on bilateral, multilateral and global issues including Ukraine and the Indo-Pacific.

They also agreed to commemorate 75 years of bilateral diplomatic relations in a befitting manner. The two sides had also reviewed the situation in their respective regions and also exchanged views on several multilateral issues. PM Modi wishes Eid al-Adha through personal letter to Turkish President

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladmir Putin on Friday (July 1) held a telephonic discussion about food security, energy and trade. The talks took place amid rising prices of food commodities globally. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine is the major reason behind the price rise.

In a statement, India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said,"They exchanged ideas on how bilateral trade in agricultural goods, fertilizers and pharma products could be encouraged further."

Russia and Ukraine are both major exporters of wheat, especially to developing countries. Conflict between them has caused wheat prices to shoot up.

Amid all this, India has exported 1.8 million tonnes of wheat to countries in need, including Afghanistan, Myanmar, Sudan and Yemen in last two months.

A Kremlin readout said that President Putin pointed at 'illegitimate sanctions' from the West that have made situation with respect to commodity and energy prices difficult. The readout said that Putin assured that Moscow is a 'reliable partner' for food, energy supply.

Both leaders also discussed "global issues, including the state of the international energy and food markets", MEA said. India has emerged as a major country importing discounted Russian crude oil despite western sanctions. In a foreseeable future, the imports are set to increase even as US and Europe shun Russian energy, particularly crude oil.

This is the fourth telephonic talk between the two leaders. They spoke on February 24, and twice in the month of March (2nd and 7th). It is important to note that the telephonic discussion came days after PM's participation at the G7 outreach summit in Germany. The issue of Russia-Ukraine conflict naturally came up during the talks and the Indian side reiterated its call for 'dialogue and diplomacy.'

Russian President Putin visited India in December of last year as part of India-Russia annual summit-level talks. This year Indian PM is expected to visit Russia.

They were under the care of the National Museum in Delhi and during the 11-day visit to Mongolia the relics will be accorded the status of a "state guest".

The Holy Relics of Lord Buddha which are returning to Mongolia after 29 years are considered one of the most sacred relics of Buddhism.

In 2015, the Holy Relics were placed under the "AA" category of Antiquities and Art Treasures which should not be ordinarily taken out of the country for exhibition, considering their delicate nature.

The Holy Relics will be displayed at the Batsagaan Temple in Gandan Tegchenling Monastery complex in Ulaanbaatar for 11 days. The display of sacred "Kapilavastu relics" at Ganden Tegchenling Monastery is called a historic milestone in India-Mongolia relations and will further boost cultural and spiritual relations between the two countries. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the first-ever Prime Minister of India to visit Mongolia, and taking the relics to Mongolia is an extension of the vision of the PM to revive the relations with the countries with whom India had cultural and spiritual ties centuries ago.
