British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been asked by the country's opposition, Labour Party, to "urgently explain" why he met senior civil servant Sue Gray "secretly" to discuss the report of an investigation into lockdown-breaking parties in Downing Street.&nbsp;

Notably, London police stated that their probe into the "Partygate" scandal was over and a final wave of fines was also issued (said to be 126 fines) but no more for the prime minister.&nbsp;

In a report on Friday, Sky News stated that Johnson and Gray discussed "where Ms Gray believed the Metropolitan Police were with the inquiry." Meanwhile, a BBC report mentioned that they discussed the publication of photos in her final report.&nbsp;

Sky added that No10 confirmed on Friday that a meeting did happen but it did not disclose the details. As quoted by the media outlet, a Number 10 spokesperson said: "The Prime Minister commissioned the investigation led by Sue Gray and has been clear throughout that it should be completely independent."&nbsp;

"As he reiterated again today, the decision on what and when to publish rests entirely with the investigation team and he will respond in Parliament once it concludes," the source added.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, Labour's deputy leader Angela Rayner raised questions as she asked Johnson to "urgently explain" the "secret meeting".&nbsp;

She tweeted: "Public confidence in the process is already depleted, and people deserve to know the truth. This is a Prime Minister incapable of taking responsibility for the rotten culture he has created in Downing Street or of doing the decent thing. The Sue Gray report must be published in full and with all accompanying evidence."&nbsp;

On the other hand, Johnson has said that once the report is published he will respond in parliament.&nbsp;

UK Civil Servant Sue Gray, whose probe report on the lockdown-breaching parties in Downing Street and Whitehall is set to be released, is reportedly planning to “name and shame” the No.10 staff who broke the Covid rules.

According to BBC, the senior civil servant is expected to publish her full report on the lockdown parties next week after the Metropolitan Police finished their investigation.

The Met have not named any of the 83 individuals who have been fined. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his wife Carrie have each received one fine.

Reports say that Gray is contacting the ones she wants to name, ahead of the publication of her report.

Those who are expected to be named have been given until 5 pm on Sunday to respond to information Gray intends to publish about them.

Meanwhile, Johnson said it would be "entirely up to Sue Gray" whom she names when publishing her report, adding, "Fingers crossed, that will be very soon."

Speaking to BBC Breakfast on Friday, Raab said there should be “transparency” in the report about any ministers who have been fined.

What we have said is that it’s right that if there’s a minister who has been fined, of course there needs to be transparency around that. I think that’s right.”

The probe, which lasted four months and cost £460,000, has led to 126 fines being issued for events in and around Downing Street.

According to John Curtice, a professor of politics at the University of Strathclyde, "These results are confirming that the Conservatives have suffered something of a rebuff from the electorate."

Council in London, Scotland, and Wales, and a third of the seats in most of the rest of England will be elected on the basis of votes on approximately 7,000 council seats in the local election.

In 2019's general election, Johnson won the Conservative Party's biggest majority but this year it could lose control of Wandsworth borough, its flagship council in London.

British opposition party on Tuesday (April 19) slammed Prime Minister Boris Johnson by calling him a ''man without shame''.

Johnson has been under intense pressure since it was revealed that Downing Street threw booze parties during the period when a three-tier lockdown had been imposed in London.

The scandal was dubbed 'partygate' by the British media after footage of the parties was leaked and went viral on social media.

''This isn't a fixable glitch in the system. It is he who he is and he can't change.''&nbsp;

''He should bring decency, honesty, and integrity back into our politics and stop the denigration of this country," he added.

The Labour Party has asked Johnson to quit for the sake of integrity in politics.

As a result of the controversy, Johnson's approval rating has plummeted with a recent national survey suggesting approximately two-thirds of the public spoke negatively about Johnson.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has refused to resign after being fined for breaking his government's pandemic lockdown rules, saying he would instead redouble his efforts to strengthen the economy and combat Russian aggression in Ukraine.

I understand the anger that many will feel that I, myself, fell short when it came to observing the very rules which the government I lead had introduced to protect the public. And I accept in all sincerity that people had the right to expect better, Johnson said late Tuesday.

And now I feel an even greater sense of obligation to deliver on the priorities of the British people.

The fine followed a police investigation and months of questions about lockdown-breaking parties at government offices, which Johnson had tried to bat away by saying there were no parties and that he believed no rules were broken.

Opposition lawmakers demanded Johnson's resignation, arguing the fines given to him and Treasury chief Rishi Sunak were evidence of criminality&nbsp;at the heart of government. The opposition argued that the Downing Street gathering demonstrated that Johnson and his supporters believed the rules don't apply to them.

On Wednesday, a Conservative member of the House of Lords resigned from his role as justice minister, criticising repeated rule-breaking and breaches of criminal law in Downing Street.

"It is not just a question of what happened in Downing Street, or your own conduct,&nbsp;David Wolfson wrote in a letter to Johnson. It is also, and perhaps more so, the official response to what took place."

While the partygate&nbsp;scandal poses a threat to Johnson's government, the world has changed tremendously since the first reports of the parties surfaced late last year.

Johnson has been a leading figure in marshalling international opposition to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and Britain is facing its worst cost-of-living crisis since the 1950s. His supporters are already arguing that whatever the prime minister may have done wrong, now is not time for a leadership contest.

That his Treasury chief also received an undermining fine helped Johnson, since Sunak had been seen as the leading Conservative candidate to succeed Johnson.

But Johnson still faces the possibility of additional fines. He is reported to have attended three other gatherings that the Metropolitan Police Service is still investigating.

He will also have to answer questions about whether he knowingly misled Parliament with his previous statements about the parties, said Jill Rutter, a senior fellow at the Institute for Government in London.

Governments have to realize that they can't just make laws and then skirt around them and rationalize themselves that it's all OK because they're very important people working at the center of government, Rutter said.

Matt Fowler, co-founder of Covid-19 Bereaved Families for Justice told news agency AFP, "It's now indisputable that whilst bereaved families were unable to be at their loved ones' sides in their last moments, or stood at their funerals alone, the people responsible for protecting us in Downing Street were partying and rule-breaking en masse."&nbsp;

"It's plain as day that there was a culture of boozing and rule breaching at the highest level of government, whilst the British public was making unimaginable sacrifices to protect their loved ones and communities."

However, a fourth,&nbsp;head of policy, Munira Mirza quit due to comments Johnson made about the leader of the main opposition Labour party, something his finance minister also criticised.

Johnson pledged to change his leadership style after a report by senior civil servant Sue Gray into the gatherings held at the Downing Street office and residence condemned "serious failures in leadership".

Rosenfield, Reynolds and Doyle were reported to have been linked to the gatherings - Reynolds is reported to have sent attendees an email telling them to "bring your own booze" to one party.

Rosenfield and Reynolds will remain in their posts for the time being, according to Johnson's office.

It remains to be seen if the clear-out in Johnson's top team will be enough to end the crisis.

A series of scandals and gaffes have severely damaged his personal ratings as well as his party's standing in the polls. Twelve of the lockdown gatherings are still under investigation, and a detailed report from Gray with potentially more damaging details may follow.

The political troubles come at a time when British households are facing a cost of living squeeze as energy prices are expected to rise in April. The Bank of England also raised interest rates on Thursday.

'Johnson accused former Labour leader Keir Starmer of failing to prosecute Jimmy Savile, one of Britain's worst sex offenders, while he was Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He has angered both opponents and members of his own party with the false comment, which Starmer said amounted to Johnson "parroting the conspiracy theories of violent fascists."

Britain's Labour Party leader Keir Starmer has accused Prime Minister Boris Johnson of "dragging everybody into the gutter."&nbsp;

Talking about the 'partygate' scandal, he said the fact that 12 of the 16 parties, including one in Johnson's own flat, were subject to a police probe was "a mark of shame".

Starmer also lambasted Johnson for repeating a false claim in parliament that he had failed to prosecute one of Britain's most notorious sex offenders.

"It is a ridiculous slur peddled by right-wing trolls," Starmer told Sky News, accusing Johnson of debasing his office.

It comes after Johnson said that Starmer failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile during his time as Director of Public Prosecutions, a role for which he later received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth.

According to Deputy Prime Minister Dominic Raab, "I think Keir Starmer should be subject to scrutiny across the board including the calls he's taken during this pandemic."

"He should be judged on the calls or frankly, his inability to make those judgement calls, in relation to his own behaviour."

Johnson's position has been hanging by a thread because of the steady drip of revelations since late last year, leading to an increasingly mutinous mood among his MPs.

Senior civil servant Sue Gray published her report into the claims on Monday, but only a watered-down version as she has passed on the most serious accusations to the police to investigate.
