The American made it clear that he is exiting the marquee tournament, in Paris,&nbsp;as he needs&nbsp;medical attention. Notably, he&nbsp;was taken off the track on&nbsp;a wheel-chair.

While Lyles ended with a medal, his Olympic journey&nbsp;would be a bitter pill to swallow as the 27-year-old had set the ambitious goal of winning four golds in this year's Olympics --&nbsp;in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and the 4x400m relay. In addition, this becomes the&nbsp;first time in three years when the triple 200m world champion could not win gold in this category.

Lyles told&nbsp;reporters, "I do have Covid. I tested positive around 5am on Tuesday. I woke up feeling chills, aching, sore throat. Those were a lot of the symptoms I have had before getting Covid. I was like: 'I need to test this one.' It came back positive so we quickly quarantined in a hotel near the village and they got me on as much medication as they legally could to make sure my body was able to keep the momentum going."

He opined, "I still wanted to run, they said it was still possible so we stayed away from everybody and took it round by round. I have definitely had better days but I am walking around again. I was quite light headed after that race and the chest pain was definitely active. After a while I was able to catch my breath and get my wits about me. I am feeling a lot better now."

In a statement, USA Track &amp; Field said, "Our primary commitment is to ensure the safety of Team USA athletes while upholding their right to compete. After a thorough medical evaluation, Noah chose to compete tonight. We respect his decision and continue to monitor his condition closely."

Lyles further added, "It (the virus) definitely affected my performance. I had to take a lot of breaks [to receive] fluid.&nbsp;To be honest, I'm more proud of myself than anything. Coming out, getting the bronze medal with covid three days ago, it's been a wild Olympics. He concluded, "We didn't want everybody to go into a panic. We wanted them to be able to compete. And then two, we wanted to be able to make this as discreet as possible. You never want to tell your competitors you're sick. Why would you give them an edge over you?"

Vinesh Phogat announces retirement after Paris Olympics disqualification

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu failed to reprise her Tokyo 2021 performance and finished fourth in the 49kg weightlifting on Wednesday (Aug 7) at the ongoing Paris Olympics 2024. She lifted a total weight of 199 kg (88 in snatch and 111 kg in clean and jerk).

Chanu had won a silver medal at the Tokyo 2021 games and became the first Indian weightlifter to do so. Before her, Karnam Malleshwari had won a bronze medal in Sydney 2000 games.

The Indian weightlifter made a great start in the competition, lifting 85 kg in snatch event. In her second attempt, however, she failed to lift 88 kg. In the third attempt though, Chanu successfully lifted 88 kg - making it her best attempt. Have a look below:

CHINADA said on Thursday that trenbolone was a common contaminant in the United States, and athletes everywhere including U.S. athletes should pay close attention to meat contamination. And Vinesh's nutritionist felt that the usual amount that she takes is about 1.5 kg&nbsp;total&nbsp;over the day, which gives enough energy for the bouts.

"Sometimes there's also a factor of a rebound weight gain following competition now, Vinesh had three bouts and hence to prevent any dehydration, some amount of water had to be given."

"We found that her post participation weight was increased more than normal and the coach initiated the normal process of weight cut that he has always employed with Vinesh."

"This is something that's worked with her for a long period of time. He felt confident that this would be achieved and over the night we went ahead with the weight cut procedure."

In the next bout, Phogat beat Ukraine's Oksana Livach 5-4 to enter the semis. She'll play in the final four rounds later tonight.

It is to be noted that Phogat was one of the faces of the wrestlers' protest in India against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Saran Singh for alleged sexual harassment.

Among other protesting wrestlers were Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik - both previous Olympic medal winners.

It is to be noted that Phogat was one of the faces of wrestlers' protest in India against former Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Saran Singh for alleged sexual harassment. Among other protesting wrestlers were Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik - both previous Olympics medal winners.

On Tuesday (Aug 6), Neeraj Chopra's 89.34m throw took him to the men's javelin final in the Paris Olympics 2024 edition.
