“Local administrations have the authority to decide on an internet shutdown in light of the law and order situation, however, no such situation has so far been reported,” Solangi had said on Monday.

Earlier on Sunday, caretaker Balochistan Information Minister Jan Achakzai had announced that the internet service will remain temporarily restricted in the sensitive polling booths in the province on the polling day.

“The election atmosphere in Sindh is full of excitement and it does not seem that any political party has enmity with another,” the newspaper quoted Ejaz as saying, and added that he did not see any tension between the candidates in Balochistan during his visit.

The interior minister said that the government will provide security in three layers – police, civil armed forces, and the army. “The commandos will be deployed in Balochistan to respond in the shortest possible time,” he said.

Meta's CEO Mark&nbsp;Zuckerberg&nbsp;reacts as he testifies during the&nbsp;Senate&nbsp;Judiciary Committee&nbsp;hearing&nbsp;on online child sexual exploitation at the U.S. Capitol | Reuters

Right before Facebook's 20th anniversary, social media platform's co-founder and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg faced harshest criticism till date at a hearing before the US Senate in Washington DC on January 31. &nbsp;

The subject of the hearing was the failure of top internet platforms to protect children and vulnerable youngsters. Democrat Dick Durbin, the chairperson of the Senate Judiciary Committee, expressed it all in a nutshell.

"Their design choices, their failures to adequately invest in trust and safety, their constant pursuit of engagement and profit over basic safety have all put our kids and grandkids at risk," he said.

While turning towards families&nbsp;whose younger members reportedly gave in to self-harm through a Meta application,&nbsp;Zuckerberg said, "I'm sorry for everything you have all been through. No one should go through the things that your families have suffered and this is why we invest so much and we are going to continue doing industry-wide efforts to make sure no one has to go through the things your families have had to suffer."&nbsp;

While Facebook started out so harmlessly during the early days of the digital revolution, it has now become a network with far-reaching consequences. Remember the Arab Spring of early 2010s — which because of Facebook's role in galvanising demonstrations and resistance, also came to be known as 'Facebook Revolution'?&nbsp;

But between the proliferation of wildest possible conspiracy theories that led to vaccination hesitancy at the peak of Covid to Donald Trump's propagation of the 'stolen' 2020 US presidential election, the 'free-speech'&nbsp;debate on Facebook remains open-ended whose opening remains nothing short of a double-edged sword.&nbsp;

Ahead of the Feb 8 parliamentary elections in Pakistan, the caretaker administration is making plans for the next government to sell the national airline- Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), reported news agency Reuters on Friday (Feb 2), citing people familiar with the matter.

Ahead of the Feb 8 parliamentary elections in Pakistan, the caretaker administration is making plans for the next government to sell the national airline- Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), reported news agency Reuters on Friday (Feb 2), citing people familiar with the matter. Speaking to Reuters, Privatisation Minister Fawad Hasan Fawad said, "Our job is 98 per cent done. The remaining two per cent is just to bring it on an excel sheet after the cabinet approves it." The plan to sell the PIA was drawn up by Ernst & Young (EY). Privatisation Minister Fawad said the plan will be presented to the cabinet for approval before the tenure of the administration ends following the elections. Also read | Exclusive: An optimistic Bilawal Bhutto promises to end politics of hate post elections in Pakistan The cabinet will also decide whether to sell the stake by tender or through a government-to-government deal, he said. The minister further said that what the caretaker administration did in just four months was what past governments had been trying to do for more than a decade. The privatisation of PIA Pakistan, which has been going through an economic crisis, agreed in June last year to overhaul loss-making state-owned enterprises under a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a $3 billion bailout. Just weeks after signing the IMF agreement, Islamabad decided to privatise the PIA. As of June 2023, PIA had liabilities of 785 billion Pakistani rupees ($2.81 billion) and accumulated losses of 713 billion rupees. The airline said losses in 2023 were likely to be 112 billion rupees. Also watch | Toshakhana case: Imran Khan, wife handed over 14-year sentence × Citing two sources, Reuters reported that a 51 per cent stake with full management control would be offered to buyers after parking the airline's debts in a separate entity. Earlier, a PIA spokesperson said that the national carrier was assisting the privatisation process, extending "full cooperation" to the transaction adviser. A draft posted on the Pakistan parliament's website said that besides operational and technical measures for PIA's divestment, the caretaker administration also amended a 2016 law that had blocked selling off its majority shares. Criticism of the 'speedy sale' The speedy sale of the PIA has been criticised. Speaking to Reuters, three airline officials who chose to remain anonymous, said that fast sale could devalue the airline's worth and that it would not be a transparent transaction without due diligence. "We are not against its privatisation, and all we want is that you don't just throw it away," one of the officials said. Apart from losses and debts, PIA's governance and safety standards have been under scrutiny in recent years. In May 2020, the crash of a PIA plane in Karachi killed nearly 100 people and a fake pilot licence scandal erupted later that year. This scandal led to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) banning the PIA from flying to its most lucrative routes in Europe and the UK. The ban is still in place and the PIA has been pleading with EASA to lift the ban even provisionally. The national carrier also said that the economic crisis in Pakistan led to seizure of PIA aircraft by creditors in recent months. Reuters also reported that while the PIA is awaiting a decision on the sale, it continues to need financial support to keep it afloat for another five to six months. (With inputs from agencies)

As he launched his manifesto, Sharif said at a party event in Lahore that the manifesto has been&nbsp;made with "great efforts". He vowed that promises in the manifesto will be fully implemented if his party is voted to power.

Stressing that Pakistan's economy was the most important aspect, Sharif said that on Saturday, he was talking neither to “express his grievances” nor was he “in a mood to complain today”.

<ul>
	<li>If voted to power, the party said that it will provide “cheap and increased electricity” to the public and would ensure. “speedy development”. It has said that this will result in 20 to 30 per cent reduction in electricity bills. Additionally, the manifesto said that that there will be 15,000 megawatt boost in electricity production and 10,000 megawatt increase in production of solar energy.</li>
	<li>The party has promised that it will ensure greater representation of youth in national politics as well as in local governments. PML (N) has said that it would restore student unions and expand the scope of the National Youth Scheme which would include financial help for IT start-ups and entrepreneurship.</li>
	<li>The manifesto says that Sharif's government would establish "Pakistan's first sports university"</li>
	<li>About foreign policy, the manifesto says that Pakistan will send “message of peace” to other countries including India. But there is a condition. The manifesto said that PML(N) wanted India to reverse actions it took in Jammu and Kashmir in August 2019.</li>
</ul>

In August 2019, India abrogated Section 370 of the Indian Constitution that granted a special status to Jammu and Kashmir and changed status of J&amp;K from a state to a union territory.

Dr Saveera Parkash, the first Hindu woman to stand in Pakistan's General Elections, envisions becoming a powerful advocate for her minority community if elected to Parliament. &nbsp;In a conversation with diplomatic correspondent Sidhant Sibal, Dr. Parkash stated, "I want to enhance the implementation of the Constitution because the Constitution has given us all the rights, regarding our, you know, freedom of religion."

Running as a PPP party candidate in the PK-25 Buner constituency of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, she passionately emphasizes the need to bolster the implementation of the Constitution, which grants fundamental rights, including freedom of religion. Expressing her aspirations on Indo-Pakistan relations, she aims to "normalize the relationship" and, in a gesture of cultural curiosity, shares her desire to see the majestic Taj Mahal.&nbsp;

WION: When you got information of the nomination, what was your feeling? How historic it is for Pakistan.
Dr Saveera Parkash: We already had minority candidates before, but I am the first female. We had Mr Hari Ram Sahib and Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani stand for general elections, they won the national seats and provincial seats. We also had minorities in our senate, it is just, that I am the first woman candidate standing for the general elections.&nbsp;

WION: Maam, you are 25 years old, you're a woman, so what will be your key focus if you get elected to Parliament?&nbsp;
Dr Saveera Parkash: I want to enhance the implementation of the Constitution because the Constitution has given us all the rights, regarding our, you know, freedom of religion, but the implementation lags a bit. It needs a bit of strengthening in its framework. Other than that, I would love to be the voice for my minority community on the international forums.

WION: India, Pakistan, this is a relationship we all know about. How do you see this relationship as, if you get into policymaking? What will be your focus in terms of this relationship?
Dr Saveera Parkash: &nbsp;Of course, I'll try to normalize the relationship because whenever we sit together, both our countries sit together and have talks, we can always come to a solution. Unfortunately, due to some incidents, it all went to zero but I'll try my best to have the both countries to sit and talk and discuss it over and so find a solution as we already can see the progress between our relations as our chairman, the chairman of our party, Pakistan People's Party, Mr. Bilawal Butto Sahib, recently visited India. It was the first after a foreign ministerial visit to India after 12 years. So it already showed us some progress in our relationship.

WION: Have you visited India, and would you like to visit India one day?
Dr Saveera Parkash: No, I have not been there and of course, I want to visit especially the Taj Mahal which is one of the wonders of the world

WION: You have been given a ticket by the PPP party, that's Pakistan's People's Party. And this is a party which is basically a Sindh-based party. It is now a pan-Pakistan party, and has given prime ministers to Pakistan as well. What would you like to say about this party? Because this party has been seen as a party which is seen center to the left, so a difference between this party and other parties, in terms of the minority outlook.
Dr Saveera Parkash: &nbsp;Pakistan Peoples Party have always empowered and promoted minorities to come forward. They focus on you know, the, you can say the oppressed class, they try to promote the poor and middle-class people. Also the minorities in the woman, they strive to empower women and minorities to come out and represent themselves that was why I chose this party.

WION: We know about when it comes to Pakistan, because it's all minorities, and sometimes we hear about stories, which is not very good. What do you have to say about that? And what would you like to do when it comes to improving the situation of minorities in your country?
Dr Saveera Parkash: &nbsp;The thing is, we must not judge a whole community or a country based on one event. As an event I'm also an example. I'm getting a lot of support from the whole district, which is obviously majority Muslim, so I must not judge people by one incident or one event.

WION: But essentially, what would you like to do for the minorities, as you started by saying that you would like to become the voice of the minorities if you can give your vision to us?
Dr Saveera Parkash: I want to strengthen the framework of our Constitution, strengthen the implementation, also want an equitable representation in the parliament and Senate and on and also increase the job quota.

WION: &nbsp;Anything on women's empowerment, you are a woman and of course, women's empowerment is something that is talked about in the larger region, not just in Pakistan. What would you like to talk about?
Dr Saveera Parkash: &nbsp;The thing that I have personally felt is that we are all afraid of taking the first step. So please, keep that aside and please take the first step and go and raise your voice for your rights, that is very important, especially in our globalized times, modern times.
