Acting on a tip-off, the local police and CRPF personnel had, in February 2022, launched a joint search operation in the forest area of Bulbul, Lohardaga, Jharkhand, where CPI (Maoist) cadres had gathered to plan an attack on security forces in the Bauxite Mines Area to take revenge against the arrest of their top commander, Prashant Bose. The gathering was led by the terror organisation's Regional Commander Ravindra Ganjhu, along with active cadres Balram Oraon, Muneshwar Ganjhu and 45-60 other cadres. On their way to Bahabar Jungle, the security forces had come under indiscriminate firing by the CPI (Maoist) cadres at Harkatta Toli and Bangla Pat. An encounter followed, after which the security forces extensively searched the area and seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition. Jharkhand Police had initially charge sheeted nine persons in the case. Subsequently, between August 2023 and May 2025, NIA filed five supplementary chargesheets against 23 persons. This included nine accused already chargesheeted by Jharkhand police and further charged under new sections by NIA. NIA, during the course of investigation, found that the conspiracy was aimed at carrying out terrorist and violent acts and armed rebellion with the objective of threatening the integrity, security, and sovereignty of the nation, and destabilising the government. In a boost to the investigation, a photographer has emerged as a key witness in the case. The lensman, who had scaled a tree, recorded critical footage during the attack, capturing the sequence of events as they unfolded. His videos and images will be extremely crucial for the investigators in determining the sequence of events and timeline of the attack, said the report. The terrorists had walked through the rugged terrain from the Kokernag forests to the Baisaran valley in Pahalgam to execute the horrific attack. In a boost to the investigation, a photographer has emerged as a key witness in the case. The lensman, who had scaled a tree, recorded critical footage during the attack, capturing the sequence of events as they unfolded. His videos and images will be extremely crucial for the investigators in determining the sequence of events and timeline of the attack, said the report. Baljeet Singh, meanwhile, is accused of manufacturing weapons and supplying them to members of Landa's gang and other gangsters. The NIA alleged that he used social media to coordinate the arms supply.
"Baljeet was manufacturing weapons locally and using social media to supply them to operatives of the Landa gang. Baljeet was one of the various weapons suppliers with whom the terrorists had tied up across the country for supply of arms and ammunition," read the NIA statement.

The NIA executed searches at 19 locations spanning five states, investigating radicalisation activities connected to the Pakistan-based banned terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed.

Local media reports that raids are underway in at least four districts of J&amp;K:&nbsp;Baramulla, Reasi, Budgam and Anantnag.&nbsp;

The NIA is conducting raids in&nbsp;Assam, Maharashtra, UP and Gujarat as well.

An NIA official said more details about the raids will be shared soon.

Earlier, the NIA had raided seven locations in J&amp;K in September following&nbsp;the June 9 terrorist attack on a pilgrims’ bus in the Reasi district.

India's NIA raids 19 locations across country in case linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed

Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, Salman Rehman Khan, was extradited by Rwanda to India in an operation coordinated by the NIA and the CBI. He was accused of providing arms and funds to Bengaluru-based militant modules from Rwanda.&nbsp;

"The Global Operations Centre of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has closely coordinated with the NIA and Interpol National Central Bureau - Kigali for the return to India from Rwanda of Salman Rehman Khan, wanted by the NIA for terror-related offences," a CBI spokesperson said in a statement.

Khan is also accused of providing material support to LeT along with being part of the Pakistan-based terror organisation.&nbsp;

"Part of a terror radicalization and recruitment case of Bengaluru Central Prison, Salman was taken into custody by the NIA, with the assistance of the RIB, Interpol and NCBs, on November 27 and brought to India this morning," the NIA said in a statement.

In 2023, a case was registered against him by NIA under the Arms Act, the Explosive Substances Act, and various provisions related to terrorism.

The case regarding him was registered after the Bengaluru Police seized around seven pistols, four hand grenades, four walkie-talkies, and other materials.&nbsp;

The NIA took over the case in October 2023 and identified Khan as the main accused in the case.&nbsp;

Khan was tracked to Rwanada and was brought back to India by the NIA security team for further investigation.&nbsp;

Khan is the third wanted criminal to be extradited by the CBI in November 2024.&nbsp;

Previously, the CBI extradited Barkat Ali Khan on November 14 who was wanted in a rioting and explosion case in Mumbai. He was extradited from Saudi Arabia.&nbsp;A Red Notice was issued against him by the CBI in December 2022.&nbsp;

The second wanted criminal, Raihan Arabikkalalarikkal, was also extradited from Saudi Arabia. He was accused of raping a minor in Kerala.&nbsp;

In the year 2024 so far, the CBI has extradited around 26 wanted criminals.&nbsp;

According to Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre data, 45 per cent of cyber crimes targeting Indians originate in Southeast Asia. Around 100,000 complaints have been registered with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal since January 2023.

There have been several reports this year about Indians complaining about being trapped in Southeast Asian countries, being held against their will, or being rescued by government agencies.

In August, it was reported that more than 1,000 people from the southern state of Tamil Nadu who went to Southeast Asian countries like&nbsp;Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam, and Laos were possibly working as cyber slaves. Other origin states include Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Delhi.&nbsp;

In the same month, 47 Indians who were forced to run dating app scams were rescued in Laos.

Hundreds of them have been rescued so far by the Indian government or international organisations and NGOs.

According to the CyberPeace Foundation, cyber slavery is a modern form of slavery "that begins with online deception and evolves into physical human trafficking."

Many of these calls involve the online equivalent of honey trapping. The scammers ask the Indians to create fake social media profiles of women. The frauds range from cryptocurrency investments to dating.

Once the victims deposit money, they are ghosted and their numbers blocked.

The Indian Railways, as per reports, is intensifying efforts to ensure passenger safety by collaborating with state governments, police chiefs, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA). They are collaborating to identify miscreants attempting to disrupt train operations by placing objects on tracks, said Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday (Sep 24).

While the NIA has not formally registered a case related to recent sabotage incidents on railway tracks, an official, as per Indian media reports, indicated that they are informally investigating the matter.&nbsp;

"We look into all railways’ accidents informally and assist local police/other agencies in investigation to probe it from conspiracy angle," the official stated, adding that they are waiting for an official directive from the government to launch a comprehensive investigation.

The anti-terror federal probe agency NIA has arrested one Baljeet Singh alias Rana Bhai alias Balli, a key aide of Canada-based designated individual Khalistani terrorist Lakhbir Singh Sandhu alias Landa, in connection with its probe into a major terrorist network case involving supply of deadly weapons, officials said on Friday.

The arrested accused Balli, hailing from Badwani district of Madhya Pradesh, was nabbed on Thursday from Punjab. He was found to be a major weapons supplier to the gangster syndicate working for Landa in Punja, the officials said.

They said that the weapons supplied by Balli were used to carry out large-scale terror activities, including extortions from businessmen as well as others in Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Delhi.

As part of its investigation into the case, the NIA had earlier arrested one Gurpreet Singh Gopi, identified as an associate of Landa and of another Khalistani terrorist named Satnam Singh Satta, officials said.
