According to a recent preprint publication released by Kyiv's Main Astronomical Observatory in collaboration with the nation's National Academy of Science, experts in the country are looking to the skies and observing something they didn't expect: an excessive amount of Unidentified flying objects (UFO).

Although the Pentagon in the United States has long hinted, speculated, and warned that some UFOs may be cutting-edge military technology from foreign militaries, particularly China and Russia (though it hasn't really provided any evidence this is actually the case), the paper does not specifically address the war.

The Ukraine paper is noteworthy in particular because it not only demonstrates how science has continued to advance during the war, but also provides an explanation for these sightings.

“We see them everywhere,” the research said. “We observe a significant number of objects whose nature is not clear.”

'Unidentified aerial phenomena I' is the title of the essay. Events are observed using data from the main astronomical observatory of the NAS in Kyiv and Vinarivka, a village south of Kyiv. The authors of the study claim that because of their interest in the topic, observatories decided to take on the task of looking for UFOs as a separate initiative.

The researchers separated the phenomenon they saw into two groups: Cosmics and Phantoms. "We note that Cosmics are luminous objects, brighter than the background of the sky. We call these ships names of birds (swift, falcon, eagle). Phantoms are dark objects, with contrast from several to about 50 per cent," the paper said.

The simple explanation would be that these are rockets, missiles, or some other weapon used in the conflict. However, the scientists say that it is "not clear" what they are.

After many encounters were documented on camera by Navy pilots, UFOs have once again gained public attention. The Pentagon responded to Congress' requests for information by stating that it has observed some odd phenomena but required more time and resources to properly investigate them. Congress granted them both, and the Pentagon activated the AARO to investigate the mysterious celestial objects.

The Pentagon's new agency needs to concentrate on UFOs that aren't "man-made," according to a recent amendment in a Senate intelligence budget report that stated that the threat of UFOs was growing "exponentially."

The World Bank is prepared to contribute up to $30 billion to help address the worldwide food shortages that have been made worse by Russia's invasion of Ukraine and has already distributed nearly $10 billion in financial relief, as per a senior bank official on Thursday.

The bank's managing director of operations, Axel van Trotsenburg, stated in an interview with Reuters while visiting the Bosnian city of Sarajevo that there is "an absolute need for international solidarity with Ukraine." He added that solidarity needs to be maintained throughout the long run as well as the short term.

Van Trotsenburg stated that the World Bank started assisting Ukraine shortly after the Russian invasion on February 24 and has so far distributed nearly $10 billion of the $13 billion in help it had committed to Kyiv.

He said that the bank has developed a platform to permit co-funding and parallel financing, as well as to combine its direct backing with additional support from nations like the United Governments, Britain, and Japan, as well as independent guarantees from European states. Additionally, a donor trust fund had been established.

While several nations have contributed through the trust fund, according to him, the United States has contributed the most money, on average at least $1.5 billion out of the almost $5 billion in external finance required every month.

"We set up (a) system through which we could help the continuation of the state functions of Ukraine - paying teacher salaries, pensions, helping the health system. That has worked very well and some of our partner countries wanted to use that mechanism because we can then also trace money," van Trotsenburg said, as reported by Reuters.

He said that the bank was also helping Ukrainians affected by the conflict at home and abroad, as well as nearby nations and developing nations outside of Europe who were experiencing difficulties with Ukrainian grain exports as a result of the conflict.

This is one of the factors for the World Bank's announcement that it is prepared to offer funding of up to $30 billion to address food insecurity over the course of the upcoming 12 months.

According to a report issued on Friday by the World Bank, European Commission, and the Ukrainian government, the invasion by Russia had so far directly cost the nation over $97 billion, but reconstruction could end up costing as much as $350 billion.

TikTok is a go-to platform to watch entertaining videos. But as a user, you may receive misleading information.

When NewGuard researchers searched TikTok for content on popular news subjects, they discovered that nearly one out of every five of the videos had automatically contained false information, AP reported.

For instance, when searching for "mRNA vaccine," false material appeared, including baseless claims that the coronavirus vaccines result in permanent harm to kids' critical organs. Furthermore, when the researchers who searched for material on the app regarding abortion, 2020 elections, and Russia's invasion of Ukraine discovered similar misleading videos among other useful ones.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) on Tuesday announced that it is moving forward to increase the emergency funds for nations affected by rising food prices and shortages brought on by the Russia-Ukraine crisis, with nearly 20 to 30 countries in urgent need. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva and board members are both quite positive and hopeful about the plan "food shock window" and hope to get it approved so that the funds can be distributed accordingly. A marketing company in the US is breaking the wheel regarding how employees and employers deal with the resignation of the former. Reportedly, Jon Franko, the founder of a marketing company named Gorilla has come up with a novel idea that makes the quitting process, a rather stress-free process. Franko took to Linkedin to share a post where he stated that at his company, employees can quit, and search for a new job whilst simultaneously receiving a ten per cent pay raise. However, the caveat is that the employee quitting should leave the company within three months. "From the moment an employee tells us of their decision to leave Gorilla and that they are in the search for a new job, any full-time employee who gives us at least six weeks' notice will be given a 10 per cent salary increase for the remainder of their time at Gorilla. We ask that they leave within three months. And we promise, no hard feelings," wrote Franko in the post. Read more: After Wipro, Infosys warns employees of consequences if found to be moonlighting Franko added that this process allows individuals to pursue something different if they are feeling stuck in the wrong place. Citing an example of how a similar process was executed in the company, Franko asserted, "Recently, this was exercised by one of our own. Great person, great Gorilla, and extremely talented in the role. But, he was ready for something different. So, he came to us, told us he was seriously looking, and that he would be gone within three months. We "shook hands", bumped his salary 10% and began our search." When quizzed if an employee wanted to return after quitting, Franko asserted that they were 'absolutely' welcome. Looking for a new job, and putting in the notice period while the company gives you the side eye and attempts to fill your position, all within a few weeks' time is a miserable cycle that many of us have gone through. This transition period extracts a heavy toll on both parties and more often than not, it leaves things on an acrimonious note. Franko's idea looks brilliant on paper and with limited scale, it appears doable as well. However, in big companies where employees quit and join in masses, it will be interesting to observe if such a system can be implemented. WATCH WION LIVE HERE:

Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has agreed to restore the former name of the country's capital just three years after he renamed it in honour of his predecessor, his spokesperson said Tuesday.

One of Tokayev's first moves upon taking office in 2019 after President Nursultan Nazarbayev stepped down was to call for Kazakhstan's capital, Astana, to be dubbed Nur-Sultan instead.

Nazarbayev, who led the country for three decades under the Soviet Union and after it gained independence in 1991, relocated the capital from Almaty to Astana in 1997.

The move was widely questioned because of the city's relative isolation in the northern steppes and notoriously frigid winters in which temperatures plunge as low as 51 degrees Celsius below zero (minus-60 F).

He made the city into a showplace of gaudy architecture, including an observation tower where visitors can place their hands in a print of Nazarbayev's.

After he stepped down, Nazarbayev retained enormous influence as head of the country's ruling party and security council. But Tokayev removed him from those posts after deadly unrest in January that hinged partly on dissatisfaction with the power that Nazarbayev still wielded.

Tokayev's spokesman, Ruslan Zheliban, said the president agreed to the name change after an initiative by a group of parliament members.

In the wake of a joint smuggling probe, the US has given Israel a coin that was part of a nearly 2,000-year-old Jewish revolt against Roman control.

The "exceedingly rare" quarter shekel was minted in AD 69, and the Manhattan District Attorney's office, which held a repatriation ceremony in New York on Monday, estimated its value at over $1 million.

The action was taken 20 years after Israeli officials first learnt through sources that the silver coin had been found in the Ella Valley, south of Jerusalem, by antiquities robbers. It is thought to be a part of a stash of coins that criminals discovered in the region, which is home to many significant archaeological sites.

According to investigators, the item was purchased illegally before being trafficked through Jordan to the UK. Then, it was shipped to the US using fraudulent documentation. The coin was scheduled to be auctioned off in Denver, Colorado, but was instead taken by Homeland Security agents in 2017.

The coin has "immense cultural value," according to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., who noted that despite the investigation's complexity, his team of prosecutors, analysts, and agents working with Israeli authorities was able to locate it in a couple of months.

In AD 6, the Romans conquered the kingdom of Judaea, but resistance to their rule resulted in a string of uprisings known as the Jewish-Roman Wars. The currency was made during the First Jewish Revolt, also known as the Great Jewish Revolt, which started in AD 66 and lasted for four years.

In some regions of their empire, including Judaea, the Romans had permitted the creation and circulation of particular regional coinage. According to the Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA), rebel commanders covered the emperor's visage on imperial coins by adding "Jewish motifs." It was "a declaration of independence by the Jews in the land of Israel, a statement against the mighty empire that stood before them," according to an IAA press release.

The British Museum bought a coin in the 1930s that is the only other quarter shekel of a similar design that the IAA is aware of. It estimates that "approximately three" more are also available on the illegal market.

Senior Israeli officials, including Gilad Erdan, the nation's ambassador to the UN, were present for the coin's return ceremony. The repatriation of the object, according to IAA director Eli Eskosido, "marks the beginning of a very positive and important trend for the restoration of cultural heritage items."

Ukrainian troops have reached the state border with Russia, reports suggest

The craft beer sector in the United States can rejoice as the sun is finally shining again. This impression is reinforced by the Brewers Association's recent report, the industry's main trade group, which shows the sector's strong recovery from pandemic-related losses. Even while there might still be some gloomy days ahead, the storm has hopefully gone for good.

As per the Brewers Association of the United States, a craft brewery, often known as a microbrewery, is a brewery that normally produces less beer than big brewers and is frequently privately owned. These breweries are typically marketed and seen as placing focus on traditional ingredients, novel flavours, and a variety of brewing techniques.

An industry predicated on human interactions saw its first-ever volume decrease in 2020, down by 9 per cent, as a result of the widespread closures of bars, tasting rooms, and virtually every other meeting place. However, 2021 brought good news. The BarthHaas Report 2021-2022 indicates that the share of the top 40 brewers has increased from 88.7 per cent of the total production in 2017 to 91.4 per cent of the total production in 2021.

This is a positive development for the industry, which saw 36 of the top 50 brewers post losses in 2019. The unprecedented run of continuous development it had experienced over the previous ten years began to diminish even before the epidemic. Craft beer was finally able to become a part of every aspect of the American beer landscape during that time. By 2021, there would be 9247 breweries operating, up from 1813 in 2010.

In 2021, the top 40 brewers of the world produced 91.4 per cent of the total beer output, out of which the top 10 brewers claimed 73.8 per cent of market output as per the BarthHaas Report. Some of these breweries have subsequently outgrown the "micro" level due to their success, but they are still referred to as microbreweries because of the type of beer they are making. The term "speciality brewers" is now used to describe some. This effectively demonstrates how the development of microbreweries has led to a full circle in the consolidation, international mergers, and acquisitions of the world's beer industry.

The beer transition

The only locations in Europe where beer was produced on a scale that could be considered commercial up until the thirteenth century were monasteries. The monks, visitors, pilgrims, and the underprivileged were all served beer. Later, monks began brewing beer for noblemen, selling it in "monastery pubs," and offering it for free use during church festivities and feasts.

From the fourteenth century onward, commercial brewers began to seriously threaten monastery beer production. Beer demand increased as income levels rose, trade and communities grew, and people became more concerned about water pollution. Travelling merchants needed a place to stay, food, and drink, and "inns" and "taverns" tried to provide for their needs. Trade centres like London, Bruges, Hamburg, and Munich quickly developed into significant brewing hubs.

The beer industry underwent a significant transition globally due to scientific advancements made in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. New types of beer could be manufactured and the production process could be more precisely managed thanks to advances in our understanding of yeast, steam engines, and refrigeration. As a result, the brewery sector started down the path of industrialization, which significantly consolidated the market.

According to the BarthHaas Report 2021-2022, the top 10 beer brewing countries in the world are - China, the United States of America, Brazil, Mexico, Germany, Russia, Japan, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, and Poland.

But there has been a counter-movement, which began in the US, against the growing dominance of increasingly standardised lager and light beers made by fewer and fewer brewing enterprises. Due to their modest size, new breweries producing "special beers" and "older" styles of beer were given the moniker "microbreweries." Similar trends are currently being seen in several nations. Even though they still produce a small portion of the world's beer, microbreweries are expanding quickly.

Although the aggregate growth figures could suggest brighter times ahead, craft beer still faces several difficulties. Government initiatives that helped many brewers weather the most difficult phases of the shutdowns have come to an end, supply chain concerns are straining already thin bottom lines, and the alcohol market is becoming increasingly competitive with new players vying for consumers' attention.

Nonetheless, craft brewers can concentrate on doing what they do best—brewing the finest of suds.

× This is a positive development for the industry, which saw 36 of the top 50 brewers post losses in 2019. × The beer transition The only locations in Europe where beer was produced on a scale that could be considered commercial up until the thirteenth century were monasteries. × But there has been a counter-movement, which began in the US, against the growing dominance of increasingly standardised lager and light beers made by fewer and fewer brewing enterprises. Ride-hailing platform Uber earlier this week paid the state of New Jersey $100 million in back taxes after the company tried being excessively clever to avoid paying benefits to its drivers.

Ride-hailing platform Uber earlier this week paid the state of New Jersey $100 million in back taxes after the company tried being excessively clever to avoid paying benefits to its drivers. Reportedly, New Jersey's Department of Labor and Workforce Development had fined Uber and its subsidiary Raiser in 2019 over unpaid unemployment taxes for the period 2014-2018. Uber classified its drivers as self-employed which allowed the company to withhold the required benefits. Consequently, the drivers lost the right to overtime pay, paid sick leave, family leave, overtime pay, and most importantly minimum wage. Remarking that the state will not tolerate such companies, New Jersey's acting attorney general, Matt Platkin said, "We will not tolerate companies that misclassify their workers, thereby denying employees vital benefits and dodging their obligation to contribute to programs that benefit the workforce." "Drivers in New Jersey and nationally are independent contractors who work when and where they want - an overwhelming amount do this kind of work because they value flexibility. We look forward to working with policymakers to deliver benefits while preserving the flexibility drivers want." read the statement from the company. Despite being a worldwide, major cab-riding platform, Uber has a rather shady record of violating the regulations and later coughing up fines to brush the matters under carpet. Uber only confessed to the US prosecutors about its crime so as to avoid being levelled with criminal charges. It is pertinent to note that Uber had to pay a fine of $148 million to all 50 US states in September 2018, to settle the claims. However, given that Uber's market value amounted to $76 billion in the same year, many experts called it a mockery of the system. On the day when the Consumer Price Index report was released and the US stock market took a beating, President Joe Biden was busy partying on the White House lawns.

On the day when the Consumer Price Index report was released and the US stock market took a beating, President Joe Biden was busy partying on the White House lawns. Reportedly, Biden threw an 'inflation reduction' party while the CPI report showed inflation hitting a worse-than-expected mark of '8.3' per cent. "Exactly four weeks ago, I signed the Inflation Reduction Act into law. So today, we're celebrating. Tune in at 3 PM ET as I deliver remarks and welcome the leaders and advocates who made it happen to the People's House." tweeted President Biden from his official Twitter account. Tune in at 3 PM ET as I deliver remarks and welcome the leaders and advocates who made it happen to the People's House. — President Biden (@POTUS) September 13, 2022 × While the White House was delirious, the stock market was panicking. Reportedly, while the pace of consumer price inflation cooled compared to previous months, it was still touching a record four-decade high. Biden hosting a celebration for the Inflation Reduction Act at the White House (AP) Investors had hoped for better numbers but after the report release, they were forced to sell everything, leading to The Dow falling nearly 1300 points. Moreover, inflation numbers suggest that the US central bank, the Federal Reserve may be hiking interest rates for a record fifth time this year, next week. Democrats have spent our economy into disaster and now they’re partying while families pay. They could not look more out of touch if they tried.” tweeted the Republican leader. Democrats have spent our economy into disaster and now they’re partying while families pay. They could not look more out of touch if they tried. — Leader McConnell (@LeaderMcConnell) September 13, 2022 × This is not the first time that Biden has come under the scanner for his apathy in the face of a crisis. As reported by WION last month, Biden claimed that the US economy had 'zero inflation' in the month of July, thereby inviting seething criticism from Republicans across the board for trying to manipulate the numbers and present a rosy picture. Read more: President Biden claims US had ‘zero per cent inflation’ in July; gets trolled by Republicans "Before I begin today, I want to say a word about the news that came out today relative to the economy. Actually, I just want to say a number: Zero," Biden had told reporters at the time. The President further added, “Here’s what that means: while the price of some things go up, went up last month, the price of other things went down by the same amount. The result? Zero inflation last month." While Biden may have been technically right, the overall picture was quite different. The CPI report released on the same day revealed that the rate of inflation was down 0.6 per cent from June's 9.1 per cent but it certainly did not mean that inflation had reached the magical 'zero' per cent mark. Investors fear that the Fed hiking rates in an attempt to get ahead of inflation may be pushing the economy towards recession. However, for two consecutive months, Biden and his executives have failed to read the room and indulged in a PR party.
