In Australia, scientists found the world's oldest heart in a 380 million-year-old type of fish. Scientists claim that the study, led by Curtin University in Perth, reveals how human bodies have evolved.

The fish fossil was discovered by researchers in the Gogo Formation in West Australia's Kimberley area.

The fish specimens were kept in limestone concretions, and the study team, led by Professor Kate Trinajstic, scanned them using x-rays and neutron beams, according to a statement from Curtin University.

Following the release of a video showing him recruiting inmates for the Ukraine war, a Russian mercenary boss defended the idea of doing so.

The leader of the Wagner organisation, Yevgeny Prigozhin, suggested that individuals who do not want to send prisoners to combat send their own children in their place. Earlier, the released video showed him promising to rescue prisoners who served six months with his organisation.

It's thought that since 2014, the Wagner group has been engaged in combat in Ukraine.

After the video went viral, Prigozhin released a statement on social media in which he claimed that if he were imprisoned, he would "dream of" joining the Wagner group to "pay my debt to the Motherland."

He also included a warning for those who oppose using prisoners or mercenaries in combat. Choose for yourself: "Either private military corporations and prisoners, or your children," he continued.

But neither the video nor its authenticity was specifically addressed in the statement.

According to the UK's defence minister, prisoner recruitment revealed that Russia has a "critical" lack of combat infantry personnel.

Denmark's state prosecutor said on Friday it had charged the suspended chief of the country's foreign intelligence unit with leaking highly classified information, the latest twist in a security scandal.

Lars Findsen, who has previously denied any wrongdoing, was accused of passing state secrets to six people, including two journalists, over the course of 16-17 months, the prosecutor's office said.

In January, former defence minister Claus Hjort Frederiksen said he has been preliminarily charged under the same section of the law.

Lawmakers later declined to remove Frederiksen's parliamentary immunity and the case against him made no further progress. At the time he said he would never dream of doing anything that could harm Denmark or Denmark's interests.

The precise charges have not been made public, but Frederiksen suggested to local media they were based on public statements made by him about a secret surveillance agreement between Denmark and the US National Security Agency (NSA).

On Friday, the prosecutor said Findsen could be sentenced to prison for up to four years under the charges, some of which belong to a section of the penal code which includes treason.

Findsen, who in January called the charges "completely insane", did not immediately comment on Friday and his lawyer only confirmed the charges.

He was arrested and suspended from duty in December last year along with three other current and former employees of the country's two intelligence agencies.

Findsen was released from custody in February. The others had been released earlier.

Most of the hearings linked to the cases have been heard behind closed doors. A court will decide whether that will continue in Findsen's prosecution, the prosecutor's office said.

After data revealed that UK retail sales plunged significantly in August as the rise in the cost of living continued to affect consumers, the pound dropped to a fresh 37-year low against the US dollar.

The 1.6 per cent larger-than-anticipated decline in sales volumes raised further worries about the status of the economy.

As a result of consumers making budget cuts in response to rising costs, sales across all retail sectors decreased in August.

Retail data, according to some analysts, indicated that the UK is already in a recession.

In the wake of the publication of the retail sales numbers, the sterling dropped more than 1 per cent versus the dollar, reaching $1.13, its lowest level since 1985. Because of the weak pound, British tourists will find that their money does not go as far.

This occurs at a time when UK inflation, or the rate at which prices increase, is at a level that is over 40 years high, albeit declining from 10.1 per cent in July to 9.9 per cent.

According to the Bank of England, the UK will experience a recession at the end of this year, and interest rates will likely continue to rise in an effort to stop inflation.
