Tuesday saw the announcement by France's civil aviation authority that it has requested airlines cancel 50% of their flights for Friday due to planned air traffic controller strikes for greater pay.

The SNCTA ( Syndicat majoritaire des contrôleurs aériens) union, the largest among controller unions, called for the strike, which the DGAC ( Direction générale de l'Aviation civile) authority said is expected to result in significant delays in mainland France and might affect flights to other parts of Europe.

It claimed to be in talks with the manager of aviation traffic at Eurocontrol to suggest alternate routes for planes to use in order to avoid French airspace.

For its side, the SNCTA claimed that the strike was a reaction to high inflation, which is reducing its members' purchasing power, and concerns over "future recruitments."

The action is being taken as the French government gets ready to present its 2023 budget, which the union claims does not ensure the DGAC's financial stability and may restrict its ability to give salary increases.

The strike threat, which would also affect flights to the nation's overseas territories, was not immediately addressed by Air France, the country's leading airline.

Shashi Tharoor, the leader of the Congress, was furious when Fox News host Tucker Carlson made the untrue claim that India lacked civilization and had not produced any architectural wonders prior to the start of the British colonial era.

The Fox News host who is accused of promoting false information regarding the Covid-19 vaccine during the epidemic on his prime-time programme and of omitting the Capitol Hill riots remarked that the British "didn't just take things, they added."

Strong nations rule over weak ones. This pattern has not altered. At least the English were serious about their colonial duties. Instead of only taking, they also added. When we (the US) departed Afghanistan, we also took our arsenal with us. Carlson said that the British had abandoned civilization when they departed India, disregarding the country's long history of civilisation and even the fact that the first highly developed human civilizations originated there.

While ignoring the Taj Mahal, the Hawa Mahal, the Mehrangarh Fort, the Golconda Fort, and countless other numerous gorgeous, enormous structures that dot the landscape of the seventh largest country in the world, Tucker displayed a graphic of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai and claimed that India has been unable to construct such architectural wonders.

In Paris, the skeleton of a small dinosaur that lived millions of years ago is up for auction, and auctioneers claim that its size "is perfect for someone's living room". However, experts and palaeontologists say that the archaeological find belongs in a museum and not some rich guy's living room.

The skeleton is believed to be of an iguanodon dinosaur and it measures about four feet (1.3 metres) tall and 9.8 feet (three metres) long, making it small enough to fit in a run-of-the-mill living room. But is it appropriate to showcase such a scientific discovery as a trophy?

Palaeontologist Steve Brusatte, who works with the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, disagrees. It's "much more than just ornaments for the rich to put in their living rooms," he said while talking to Daily Mail.

Another palaeontologist, Thomas Carr of the Carthage College in Wisconsin believes that the specimen has been misidentified and is actually another herbivore called camptosaurus.

Speaking to Daily Mail, he said that although he is not an expert on ornithopod dinosaurs, auction houses "shouldn't be in the business of selling things they know nothing about" if they "can't even identify the fossil correctly."

In recent times, Dinosaur bones have gone from being the subject of research to expensive art pieces. Once they were almost exclusively purchased by museums for reasonable prices are now sold to the highest bidder for millions.

Auctioneer Alexandre Giquello, while talking to Reuters said that the specimen, known as "Zephyr," is the perfect size for a one-of-a-kind piece of home décor. It is estimated to sell for between 400,000 and 500,000 euros ($495,000).

The dinosaur, which Italian palaeontologists partially reconstructed, was found in Moffat County, Colorado in 2019 when road construction was taking place on private property. Little is known about the dinosaur's journey from the earth to the Paris auction house.

'Home décor or scientific discovery': Experts express dismay as dinosaur skeleton goes up for sale

On Tuesday, Taliban authorities reacted angrily to UN claims that they are denying Afghan women the right to work, despite the fact that thousands of them are engaged in the government.

However, because offices were not set up for effective sex segregation, Sharafuddin Sharaf, head of staff at the ministry of labour and social affairs, told AFP that many women were getting paid despite not showing up for work.

"Working together in one office is not possible in our Islamic system," he stated, a day after a United Nations rights expert claimed that since the Taliban's return to power in August of last year, there has been a "staggering regression" in women's rights.

Although Sharaf was unable to provide a number, she asserted that "not a single female employee has been fired" from the civil service.

However, there have been a number of demonstrations by women seeking the right to work and protesting the loss of their jobs, some of which the Taliban violently put an end to.

According to Sharaf, some women "once a week to their relevant offices to sign their attendance, and their salaries are paid at their homes."

He noted that this occurs in workplaces where "gender-based segregation is yet to be done" and that women were employed in the interior, health, and education ministries, all of which have a need for them.

However, the majority of girls' secondary schools nationwide have been ordered to close, so this generation of female university students may be the last.

Many Taliban leaders claim the restriction is merely temporary, but they have also rolled out a vast list of justifications for the closures, ranging from a lack of resources to the time required to redesign the curriculum in accordance with Islamic principles.

Local media reported on Monday that the education minister claimed it was a cultural issue because many rural residents did not want their daughters to go to school.

To conform to their conservative interpretation of Islam since gaining power, the Taliban have placed severe restrictions on girls and women, virtually excluding them from public life.

As a recession looms around the US economy, banking major Goldman Sachs is planning to fire hundreds of its employees as early as next week. Reportedly, the layoffs will mark the resumption of its annual practice which was halted the last two years due to the pandemic.

As a recession looms around the US economy, banking major Goldman Sachs is planning to fire hundreds of its employees as early as next week. Reportedly, the layoffs will mark the resumption of its annual practice which was halted the last two years due to the pandemic. According to data available, without any layoffs, the company's headcount had grown to more than 47,000 globally, at the end of June, which was a 15 per cent increase from the similar period last year. Experts believe that Goldman Sachs could clip as many as one to five per cent of its low-performance employees, come the next week. This will mean losing anywhere between 500 to 2,400 employees. WATCH | UK Inflation could top 20% next year: Goldman Sachs × It is not like the banking giant had not signalled this move. In July, during an earnings call, Chief Financial Officer Denis Coleman warned that the company might slow hiring and cut expenses as the economic outlook worsens. "Given the challenging operating environment, we are closely re-examining all of our forward spending and investment plans to ensure the best use of our resources," said Coleman. "Specifically, we have made the decision to slow hiring velocity and reduce certain professional fees going forward, though these actions will take some time to be reflected in our results." he further added. Coleman stated that the company had witnessed a 48 per cent slump in quarterly profit, forcing it to clock in the tough changes. It is pertinent to note that wobbly macroeconomic conditions, uncertain geopolitical climate due to the Russia-Ukraine war and sky-high inflation have contributed to the decision. As per a CNN report, a New York Times reporter in her forthcoming book has made this revelation.

The reporter Maggie Haberman, in her book, "Confidence Man: The Making of Donald Trump and the Breaking of America," revealed that Trump repeatedly told his aides that he would not let incoming President Joe Biden take over and that he's "just not going to leave".

Let's be honest, can we actually walk out a way to fitness? Walking is one of the most effective, affordable, and straightforward exercises.

A recent study claims that walking 10,000 steps a day lowers the risk of dementia, cancer, heart attack, and mortality.

The study was published in the journals JAMA Internal Medicine and JAMA Neurology.

The study used data from the UK biobank to correlate step counts from 78,500 UK adults aged between 40 and 79. However, individuals who were free of cardiovascular disease, cancer, or dementia were included in the final assessment.

The study monitored 75,800 adults with wearable trackers, making it the largest study to objectively track step counts in relation to health outcomes.

Head researcher, Dr. Matthew Ahmadi, said, "The take-home message here is that for protective health benefits, people could not only ideally aim for 10,000 steps a day but also aim to walk faster," ANI reported.

However, for less active individuals, the study offers an option for them to maintain their health. Borja del Pozo, associate researcher, Cruz said that the research also shows that as few as 3,800 steps a day can cut the risk of dementia by 25 per cent.

The study also claims that every 2,000 steps reduce the risk of premature death incrementally by 8 to 11 per cent nearly 10,000 steps a day.

Ahmadi said, "The size and scope of these studies using wrist-worn trackers make it the most robust evidence to date suggesting that 10,000 steps a day is the sweet spot for health benefits and walking faster is associated with additional benefits," ANI reported.

Liz Truss's proposals for a freeze on energy prices and significant tax cuts will provide twice as much financial assistance with living expenses to Britain's wealthiest households as to its poorest households, as per a top think tank.

The Resolution Foundation claimed that when combined with the tax cuts promised during her leadership campaign, the prime minister's energy plan, which was unveiled only hours before word of the Queen's passing last week, would come with a "colossal" price tag for taxpayers.

According to the report, the government's "energy price guarantee" and national insurance cuts would provide the richest tenth of UK households with an average of £4,700 in support, compared to just £2,200 for the typical home in the bottom tenth.

The intervention comes at a time when the specifics of the new prime minister's plan to assist suffering households are still unknown because she decided to wait until a mini-budget, which is anticipated to take place next week, to release the costs associated with her proposal.

The Resolution Foundation estimated that the idea to cap a two-year increase in the average home energy bill to £2,500 would cost about £120 billion. It cautioned that Truss's strategy to avoid a new windfall tax on energy producers would mean passing along the expense to taxpayers, with as little as £1 in every £12 spent on energy assistance for households being recovered directly from higher taxes on energy corporations.

The energy price guarantee, financial help for all households, and additional one-time payments for those receiving means-tested benefits, according to the think tank, will bring the average level of support for homes to £2,000 this year. When taken as a whole, it claimed that both wealthy and poor households received an equivalent amount of help.

It was stated that this will "skew support towards the very highest-income households," in addition to the general support provided by the energy price freeze, which will benefit households with the highest gas and electricity bills.

The chief executive of the Resolution Foundation, Torsten Bell, stated: "Last week, the prime minister announced a simply colossal energy support package to avert a catastrophe in living standards this winter.

With prior announcements, the help totals more than £2,200 for each home in Britain. It was a large, courageous move. Families should yet prepare for a challenging winter, with wealthy households receiving twice as much cost-of-living assistance as less fortunate households the next year.

According to the statement, Vedanta and Foxconn will collaborate closely with the state government to create high-tech clusters with the necessary infrastructure, such as land, semiconductor-grade water, and power.

World leaders preparing to attend Queen Elizabeth II's funeral ceremony at Westminster Abbey have reportedly been informed of the strict protocol that will be in place. According to reports, all international heads of state and their spouses planning to arrive in London for the State Funeral have been asked to arrive on commercial flights rather than private jets and have also been asked not to use helicopters to get around.

Ukraine continues its counter-offensive against Russia after reeling under Russian strikes for almost seven months, Ukraine is fighting back to regain its territory. The war-torn country has now claimed that it has taken back six thousand square kilometers of the area which was captured by Moscow after the war began in the month of February.

Russian invasion: Ukraine continues its counter-offensive, claims 6,000 sq km of land retaken

Foreign heads of state attending the Queen's funeral must use a group bus to Westminster Abbey rather than driving privately, as per recently released official instructions.

The documents, which were seen by the Guardian, lay out tight guidelines for the dozens of presidents, kings, queens, and prime leaders from other countries who are anticipated to attend the funeral. They advise them to take commercial planes rather than clogging up London's airports.

The instructions reveal the practical difficulty of hosting the large number of foreign dignitaries who will be coming to London next weekend. This will present a problem for Joe Biden, who will probably need a lot more security. The funeral will be attended in person by the US president.

The instructions, which were first published by Politico, specify that foreign visitors should minimise the size of their delegations as much as possible and that invitations to funerals should preferably only be sent to the head of state and their spouse, without any members of their family or staff.

The government expressed sadness that "because of limited space at the state funeral service and associated events, no other members of the principal guest’s family, staff or entourage may be admitted."

The guidance adds: “The royal funeral unit would therefore be grateful if accompanying delegations can be kept as small as possible. This will also reduce disruption and transit time at airports. Where possible, overseas representatives should plan to arrive in the UK at least one day before the state funeral or the first event, which they are attending.”

Additionally, it states that heads of state should use other London airports if they are unable to fly commercially and that Heathrow will not be open for private flight arrangements or aircraft parking. Because of the enormous number of visitors, the government will reportedly refuse to use helicopter transportation.

Foreign leaders are also cautioned in the advisory that "it will not be possible to display flags at any airport for arrival or departure."

The sheer number of private automobiles belonging to international leaders planning to attend the funeral is too much for London's streets to handle. The government will instead transport them to a different location in London where it will "provide coach transport from a central assembly point … Because of traffic restrictions, it will not be possible for guests to travel to such events in their own vehicles."

Visiting leaders can record brief statements when they sign condolence cards, but there won't be any "Autocue or makeup facilities," according to the instructions.

Foreign heads of state attending the Queen's funeral must use a group bus to Westminster Abbey rather than driving privately, as per recently released official instructions.

The government expressed sadness that "because of limited space at the state funeral service and associated events, no other members of the principal guest’s family, staff or entourage may be admitted." The guidance adds: “The royal funeral unit would therefore be grateful if accompanying delegations can be kept as small as possible. This will also reduce disruption and transit time at airports. Where possible, overseas representatives should plan to arrive in the UK at least one day before the state funeral or the first event, which they are attending.” Additionally, it states that heads of state should use other London airports if they are unable to fly commercially and that Heathrow will not be open for private flight arrangements or aircraft parking. Because of the enormous number of visitors, the government will reportedly refuse to use helicopter transportation. Foreign leaders are also cautioned in the advisory that "it will not be possible to display flags at any airport for arrival or departure." The sheer number of private automobiles belonging to international leaders planning to attend the funeral is too much for London's streets to handle. The government will instead transport them to a different location in London where it will "provide coach transport from a central assembly point … Because of traffic restrictions, it will not be possible for guests to travel to such events in their own vehicles." Earlier this month, it was announced that the private sector will soon be manufacturing and realising the country's most reliable rocket, the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV). On Monday, on the sidelines of the launch of India's first satellite broadband service, ISRO Chairman Dr S Somnath added that private consortiums will soon be manufacturing India's heavy rockets viz. the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) rockets as well. Quizzed whether ISRO will be collaborating with the private sector for the heavy launch vehicles, the ISRO chief replied in affirmative. "In due course time, we will be handing over the manufacturing of GSLV-MK III and SSLV to industrial consortiums. That is our plan for the long term to hand over all operational launches...to be rebuilt, relaunched and operated on a commercial basis by NSIL (New Space India Limited) [ISRO's commercial arm]." Dr Somnath told WION. The ISRO chief further added, "We are also looking at how in the future rockets can be built, designed and built by consortiums, industries and NSIL for a better, cost-effective structure. Instead of government spending money. This model will be changing in due course of time," Read more: ISRO and Hughes launch India's first commercial satellite broadband service It is pertinent to note that GSLV series is the largest launch vehicle developed by India, which is currently in operation. ISRO chief added that the private space industry in India was growing. "We believe that the satellites which are coming up in the private ecosystem which is definitely going to happen. That's the market we are looking at. We are also seeing the growth of the industry significantly in India. Not only small satellites but bigger satellites are also being built here in India. Maybe the ones that are being built outside will also be built here in India. We hope that it will happen and NSIL will move towards that market." said Dr Somnath.
