Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has come in support of their captain Babar Azam after he was falsely accused of 'sexting' with the girlfriend of another Pakistani cricketer.&nbsp;

"As our media partner, you might have considered ignoring such unsubstantiated personal allegations which Babar Azam has not deemed worthy of a response," tweeted PCB while quote tweeting Foxsports which published an article on the controversy.&nbsp;

The false allegations were first posted by a parody Twitter account named Dr Nimo Yadav which, incidentally had a Twitter blue&nbsp;verified account.

For the first time in 60 years, China’s population has fallen. 2022 saw the nation’s population take a historic turn to mark the start of a long period of decline in its citizens’ numbers.

As per Reuters, this marks the beginning of profound implications for the economy of the nation. The drop, which is believed to be the worst since China’s great famine of 1961, means that Beijing’s neighbour India will become the world’s most populous nation this year.

China’s National Bureau of Statistics figures shows that by the end of 2022, the nation’s population has dropped to 1.41175 billion with a fall of roughly 850,000. The long-term prediction by UN experts is that in roughly three decades, or by 2050, the population will shrink by 109 million. This is a three-fold increase from a previous decline prediction made in 2019.

Last year, the nation’s birth rate was 6.77 births per 1,000 people, a fall from 7.52 births in 2021. Compared to this, deaths per 1,000 were at a high of 7.37 in 2022, while in 2021 the nation recorded 7.18 deaths per 1,000. 2022's death rate as per Reuters was the highest since the 1974 Cultural revolution.

This fall has been credited to the Chinese one-child policy that was imposed between 1980 and 2015. Apart from this, recent years’ high education costs, as well as child-rearing costs, are also blamed.

After being blamed for "violations and wrongdoing" by the ruling Communist Party and many officials under his control, Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc resigned on Monday.&nbsp;

Phuc, 68, who was premier from 2016-2021, held the presidential position for less than two years. He was the highest-ranking official targeted by the Communist party's sweeping corruption crackdown.

He was chosen in April 2021 to be president and was likely to succeed as the party's, General Secretary.

Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc resigns, blamed for 'violations and wrongdoing'

Strikes in the United Kingdom are set to intensify, as on Monday&nbsp;Britain’s largest teaching and nursing unions announced further walkouts over pay.&nbsp;AFP reports, the National Education Union (NEU) announced that its members have overwhelmingly voted to walk out starting next month.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Why are they protesting?

The protests are part of a larger action by professionals of&nbsp;various trades over pay raises.

Inflation in the UK has in recent months crossed the 10 per cent mark, and the teacher unions are demanding a pay raise for the nation’s educators.

<div class="videoWrapper trancodeVideo"><iframe allowfullscreen="" autoplay="1" class="includeVideo" frameborder="0" height="350" src="https://www.wionews.com/videos/nurses-and-ambulance-workers-strike-in-uk-over-pay-hike-553049/embed" style="width:100%;max-width:560px;" width="560"></iframe></div>

How much raise are they asking for?

They are asking for a raise that at least matches the double-digit inflation.

In Scotland, teachers were offered a five per cent raise, which they rejected, instead demanding 10 per cent.

Across England and Wales, in 2022, many state-school teachers received a 5 per cent pay raise, while in Northern Ireland, many of them were offered 3.2 per cent for the school years 2021-22, and 2022-23.

However, teacher’s unions argue that with inflation above ten per cent, these meagre raises are essentially pay cuts.

When will the strikes start?

As per Daily Mail, strikes will happen over the course of two months; February and March.

On February 1 itself, thousands of teachers will walk out. This is expected to affect more than 23,000 schools.

Also read |&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/right-to-protest-not-absolute-says-rishi-sunak-as-uk-prepares-to-introduce-broader-powers-for-police-552977">Right to protest ‘not absolute’, says Rishi Sunak as UK prepares to introduce broader powers for Police</a>

Further strikes have been announced over six days, spread out between the two months. February 14, March 15 and March 16 will witness larger strikes, while February 28 and March 1 and 2 have been set for regional walkouts.&nbsp;

The NEU said that each school will only be affected for four days each, however, this has caused concern among the parents.

What are the parents saying?

In recent years, due to the coronavirus pandemic, education globally has suffered, with millions of children’s studies getting negatively affected by Covid restrictions and lockdowns.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Writing for Daily Mail Molly Kingsley, mother of a child who’ll be impacted, called the strike an “act of educational sabotage.”

She writes, “even a single day of missed education is unacceptable,” adding “it’s hard to understand how anyone could be comfortable inflicting such terrible damage on children at this critical time. Many go into teaching not for financial gain but to better young lives.”

Strikes in the United Kingdom are set to intensify, as on Monday Britain’s largest teaching and nursing unions announced further walkouts over pay. AFP reports, the National Education Union (NEU) announced that its members have overwhelmingly voted to walk out starting next month. Here’s everything you need to know: Why are they protesting? The protests are part of a larger action by professionals of various trades over pay raises. Inflation in the UK has in recent months crossed the 10 per cent mark, and the teacher unions are demanding a pay raise for the nation’s educators. Watch | Nurses and ambulance workers strike in UK over pay hike How much raise are they asking for? Also read | Right to protest ‘not absolute’, says Rishi Sunak as UK prepares to introduce broader powers for Police Further strikes have been announced over six days, spread out between the two months. February 14, March 15 and March 16 will witness larger strikes, while February 28 and March 1 and 2 have been set for regional walkouts. The NEU said that each school will only be affected for four days each, however, this has caused concern among the parents. What are the parents saying? In recent years, due to the coronavirus pandemic, education globally has suffered, with millions of children’s studies getting negatively affected by Covid restrictions and lockdowns. Writing for Daily Mail Molly Kingsley, mother of a child who’ll be impacted, called the strike an “act of educational sabotage.” Also read | Rishi Sunak vows to introduce anti-strike law as nurses begin unprecedented day-long strike for better wages She writes, “even a single day of missed education is unacceptable,” adding “it’s hard to understand how anyone could be comfortable inflicting such terrible damage on children at this critical time. Many go into teaching not for financial gain but to better young lives.” Calling the union’s action “militancy”, Kingsley said that children of the poorest families will be most badly affected. Different studies determine&nbsp;the impact of Covid on pregnant women and their children,&nbsp;making&nbsp;it hard to reach&nbsp;a detailed conclusion.

A recent study has revealed that pregnant women are more likely to have serious illnesses and can even die sometimes due to infection. Medical experts&nbsp;also urged pregnant women to take the Covid vaccination to reduce the risk to themselves and their children, Guardian reported.&nbsp;

Recent research at George Washington University analysed data from almost 13,000 unvaccinated pregnant women reported in several countries.

Published in the BMJ Global Health, the study also highlighted a greater death rate.

Dr Emily Smith along with her co-workers analysed three per cent of the Covid-infected pregnant women who were admitted to intensive care, was four times more&nbsp;than the uninfected women. She&nbsp;reported that about two per cent of the infected women needed mechanical ventilation to help them breathe.

Smith said, "We found that women who have Covid in pregnancy are at greater risk of ending up in the intensive care unit or even dying or having some pregnancy-related problems like pre-eclampsia, as compared to their peers who were pregnant at the same time but didn’t get Covid."

It also analysed that around seven per cent of pregnant women died from Covid compared to one per cent of those who avoided the infection.&nbsp;

The study&nbsp;stated that unvaccinated Covid-infected mothers are more likely to give birth to premature babies and can also have their babies admitted to neonatal intensive care.&nbsp;

While reflecting on the findings, the research did not distinguish different covid variants.&nbsp;

US President Joe Biden, who has come to be known for his gaffes, has made another embarrassing misstep.&nbsp;The incident happened while Biden was speaking at an event celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day or MLK Day.&nbsp;

In the US, the event honouring the late civil rights leader is celebrated on the third Monday of January each year. This year the event fell on January 16th, coinciding with his daughter-in-law Arndrea Waters King’s birthday.

Reportedly, the gaffe was noticed by those present and it resulted in a burst of laughter as Biden mumbled the incorrect, incoherent name over the microphone. Biden’s reaction to the laughter was a futile “well...”.

Bringing one of the world's strictest anti-tobacco laws into force, Mexico on Sunday imposed a total ban on smoking in public places. This also includes a ban on tobacco advertising. The step was initially approved in 2021. Similarly, many Latin American countries have also passed legislation to create smoke-free places. However, Mexico's legislation is considered to be the most wide-ranged&nbsp;and strict in America.

Mexico's 2008 law, which restricted smoking in public places like bars, restaurants and workplaces, will now be extended to all public spaces. The new restrictions also include no to vapes and cigarettes, particularly indoors.

UK nurses on Thursday staged a walkout in an unprecedented first of the two daylong strikes they term as the "last resort" in their fight for better wages and working conditions. Up to 100,000 members of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) in England, Wales and Northern Ireland are stopping work from 0800 to 2000 GMT after rejecting a government pay offer.&nbsp;The RCN's industrial action is just one of the many waves of stoppages by public and private sector employees.

The strike is the first in the Royal College of Nursing union's 106-year history.

"We have not chosen industrial action lightly. We're tired. We're fed up," a senior nurse told AFP. "We need a pay rise now to make a living."

The industrial action had been planned on December 15th and 20th across England, Wales and Northern Ireland for 12 hours at a time.&nbsp;

Earlier, striking a confrontational tone, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak vowed that anti-strike laws will be brought in "to protect lives and livelihoods".

Speaking to Daily Mail, Sunak said he was gearing up for a showdown with union leaders and that he hopes they can see that wrecking Christmas isn't right.

United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s government, on Monday, will announce new proposals to clamp down on protests. The new proposals as per Reuters will broaden the range of situations in which police are able to act on or end serious disruptions. In a statement, late on Sunday, the PM said that the right to protest “is not absolute”.

“The right to protest is a fundamental principle of our democracy, but this is not absolute,” he said, adding “We cannot have protests conducted by a small minority disrupting the lives of the ordinary public. It’s not acceptable and we’re going to bring it to an end.”

Recent years have seen Britain plagued by disruptive protests, mostly on environmental issues. These protests, which led to a shutdown of large parts of central London and blocked traffic on major highways, have led to calls for more power to the police for stopping these disturbances.

The bill as per Reuters was published last year and is currently in the final stages of debate in the UK parliament.

However, civil rights groups say that the bill is anti-democratic and gives the police way too much power. The bill already has provisions for the creation of a criminal offence for those seeking to lock themselves or a building or an object. It also allows courts to restrict the freedom of protestors seeking to cause serious disruption.
