<p>Responding to this, Gabriel said that she would like to see the organisation increase the candidate age limit.<br />

"For me, I would like to see an age increase because I am 28 years old. And that is the oldest age to compete. And I think it's a beautiful thing. My favorite quote is 'if not now, then when?' Because as a woman, I believe age does not define us. It's not tomorrow, it's not yesterday -- but it's now. The time is now," she said.</p>

Miss Universe Organisation has changed hands before. Former US President Donald Trump was part owner of the pageant rights from 1996 until IMG's purchase.<br />

The year 2021 will go down in history for a lot of factors. This year, 21 years later a 21-year-old brought the Miss Universe crown back to India. On December 12th, Indian model Harnaaz Sandhu was declared Miss Universe at the 70th edition of the pageant. She spoke to Wion. Here are some snippets from the interview.

The three were asked, "What advice would you give to young women watching on how to deal with the pressures they face today,” to which the winner said, "The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing, is to believe in themselves. Come out, speak for yourself, because you are the leader of your life. You are the voice of your own. I believed in myself and that is why I am standing here today."</p>

India's Harnaaz Sandhu crowned Miss Universe 2021

Every time I see the video now, I think it’s funny because I’m super excited. I didn’t believe what was happening. You can’t hear it, but I was jumping and screaming. <p>The live event is taking place at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel &amp; Casino in Hollywood, Florida.</p>

<p>As for organizing the pageant amid the pandemic, COVID-19 safety rules include contestants quarantining upon arrival with frequent testing leading up to the show, mask use and social distancing.</p>

After skipping 2020, Miss Universe pageant to return this year in May

<p>Miss Universe New Zealand finalist Amber-Lee Friis passed away at the age of 23 earlier this week.&nbsp;The Talent Tree, the model talent agency posted the news on Facebook, "It is with immense sadness we acknowledge the sudden passing of a beautiful and talented Wahine Amber-lee Friis."<br />

The post further read, "Amber-Lee was one of our original Models for The Talent Tree and a finalist in 2018 Miss Universe NZ."&nbsp;</p>

<p>The reason behind the death so far is not confirmed. The Police said in a statement to a magazine that cause of death&nbsp;was sudden.</p>

<p>Popular TV host and comedian Steve Harvey did it again. Harvey announced the wrong winner of the National Costume Contest during the 2019 Miss Universe pageant.&nbsp;</p>

<p>During the event which took place in Atlanta on Sunday, Harvey announced, “Here’s a look at the winner, Philippines,” while&nbsp;Miss Malaysia Shweta Sekhon stood next to him.<br />

He announced the winner as Miss Philipiness but started discussing the costume of Miss Malaysia who was standing next to him. Soon, Shekhon grabbed the mic and stated, "It's not Philippines, it's Malaysia."&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Well... let me explain something to you. I just read that in a teleprompter," he explained soon enough. "You all quit doing this to me. I can read this. They are trying to fix it now. This is what they did to me back in 2015. This is Malaysia. I really love this National Costume of Malaysia. <p>Turns out, Harvey was in fact correct in declaring Miss Philippines as the winner. A source stated that Miss Malaysia wasn't aware that Miss Philippines would be announced first and “jumped the gun” when Harvey started with that news.<br />

<p>Many would recall that Harvey had made a similar faux pas during the 2015 Miss Universe pageant when he had accidentally announced the wrong winner of the contest. The host had declared that Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutiérrez as the winner instead of the actual winner Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach.</p>

<p>On Sunday though, Harvey made more than one goof up. The host while announcing the Top 20 finalist, called out Miss Columbia and even displayed his card to the audience to assure them that he had got the right name. When Miss Columbia laughed and said she had forgiven his previous mistake, Harvey said, "You’ve forgiven me. They haven’t — the cartel, they’re not handling it the same way.”</p>

<p>The cartel comment, naturally, did not go down well with many Columbians as they lashed at Harvey on Twitter.&nbsp;</p>

Although she did not make the finals, Miss Myanmar Swe Zin Htet made waves last week when she came out as the competition's first openly gay contestant.<br />

"I have that platform that, if I say that I'm a lesbian, it will have a big impact on the LGBTQ community back in Burma," Htet told People magazine, using her country's historic name.<br />
<br />
Homosexuality is illegal in the southeast Asian country and is punishable by up to life in prison.<br />
<br />
In 2018, the competition also featured Miss Spain Angela Ponce, who blazed a trail as Miss Universe's first transgender contestant.<br />
But the pageant has had a controversial past. Multiple contestants have alleged that US President Donald Trump would regularly enter the competitors' changing room while he owned the organization from 1996-2015.<br />

South Africa's Zozibini Tunzi wins 2019 Miss Universe crown

<p>India born Priya Serrao has won the Miss Universe Australia title for 2019. She will now represent Australia in the Miss Universe competition later this year.</p>

<p>She contested for the coveted title along with 26 other women from across the country in Melbourne.&nbsp;</p>

<p>After being crowned Miss Universe &nbsp;Australia, Priya said, “I just want to see more diversity and the fact someone that looks like me and has my background is here is amazing.”</p>

<p>She further said, “I have never entered a pageant before and I have never done a modelling before… So this was a huge surprise. I wanted to be a part of the experience.”</p>

<p>Priya shared photos of her win on social media and wrote, “I still can’t believe everything that’s happened in the last 24 hours. A huge thank you for all your support so far. I can’t wait to get started!”</p>

<p>The Miss Universe 2017 pageant concluded on November 26 in Las Vegas with South African beauty Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters being crowned as Miss Universe.&nbsp;</p>
