Madonna’s daughter is turning up the heat and how!

Madonna’s daughter Lourdes 'Lola' Leon recently posed for Marc Jacob’s spring campaign as she flaunted some avant-garde looks from the American fashion brand. The 24-year-old looked perfect as she donned the most flattering outfits with oomph and bold glamour. What else would one expect from the daughter of the world's biggest fashion icon, Madonna.

In one look Lola donned a bra made of huge pink blooms while sitting down and gazing at the camera. She then changed into a black jacket and matching shorts with Mary-Jane heels and Marc's signature Tote Bag.

Dying breed: Tunisian crafts smoking pipes from briar wood

A new study has found that high blood pressure is casually associated with the most common heart rhythm disorder. The findings of the study were published in the `European Journal of Preventive Cardiology`.

Study author Dr Georgios Georgiopoulos of King`s College London, UK and National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece said, "Establishing that elevated blood pressure causes atrial fibrillation provides further impetus for public health strategies aimed at improving blood pressure control in the general population and for individual efforts to keep levels in check."

Atrial fibrillation is the most common heart rhythm disorder, affecting more than 40 million individuals globally.
People with the disorder have a five times greater risk of having a stroke. Previous studies have shown an association between high blood pressure and developing atrial fibrillation, but there was no strong evidence of direct causality.

To investigate whether blood pressure has a direct impact on the risk of atrial fibrillation, the researchers conducted a naturally randomised controlled trial - called Mendelian randomisation. They used data from the largest genome-wide association study (GWAS) on blood pressure and atrial fibrillation which included more than one million individuals of European ancestry - of which 60,620 had atrial fibrillation and 970,216 did not.

The first step was to identify 894 genetic variants associated with blood pressure. Next, the researchers analysed which of those variants play a role in atrial fibrillation. To conduct the naturally randomised controlled trial, the 894 genetic variants were randomly allocated to all participants at conception, giving each individual a blood pressure level. The investigators then analysed the association between blood pressure and atrial fibrillation.

Elevated blood pressure was associated with an increased risk of atrial fibrillation. Specifically, 1 mmHg rises in systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure and pulse pressure were associated with 1.8 per cent, 2.6 per cent, and 1.4 per cent relative increases in the risk of atrial fibrillation, respectively.

Dr Georgiopoulos noted, "The results provide strong evidence of a causal relationship between blood pressure and atrial fibrillation. Using genetic information in the analyses minimises the likelihood of reverse causality (i.e. that atrial fibrillation causes high blood pressure) or that other trait linked with atrial fibrillation (confounders) were responsible. Our study showed that the relationship was not driven by other conditions including coronary artery disease and obesity."He concluded, "Our findings confirm the hypothesis that atrial fibrillation is preventable.

This indicates that strict blood pressure control could be an effective strategy to stop atrial fibrillation and its complications, which include stroke, heart failure, dementia, and depression."

Chrissy Teigen once accidentally spent $13,000 on a bottle of wine that she says 'sucked'.

The former model and cookbook writer paid $13,000 for a bottle of Cabernet and talked about it to her followers on Twitter.

Teigen, who has now been sober for several months, posted a tweet asking her followers, "what's the most expensive thing you've eaten that you thought sucked?" She then went on to narrate her own unfortunate experience.

According to Teigen, a waiter recommended a "nice Cabernet" to Teigen and her husband, John Legend. The couple was in for a surprise when they received the bill.

"We got the bill and it was 13,000 dollars. HOW DO U CASUALLY RECOMMEND THAT WINE," Teigen wrote.
HOW DO U CASUALLY RECOMMEND THAT WINE," Teigen wrote. one time john and I were at a restaurant and the waiter recommended a nice Cabernet. We got the bill and it was 13,000 dollars.
Billie Eilish has often talked about her body insecurities and they have affected her body image.

Last October, a much-talked-about photo of Eilish circulated online due to the fact that the star was simply wearing a tank top that was more form-fitting than her usual attire. In a new Vanity Fair cover story, Eilish reflected on that pap picture.

"I think that the people around me were more worried about it than I was because the reason I used to cut myself was because of my body. To be quite honest with you, I only started wearing baggy clothes because of my body," she said. Describing the growth she's had with her body image, Eilish, who has an auditory processing disorder and was diagnosed with Tourette's syndrome, said she's in a healthier mindset these days compared to her early teen years.

"I was really, really glad though, mainly, that I'm in this place in my life, because if that had happened three years ago, when I was in the midst of my horrible body relationship—or dancing a ton, five years ago, I wasn't really eating. I was, like, starving myself," said the five-time Grammy winner, who suffered a growth-plate injury that axed her dance dreams.

"I remember taking a pill that told me that it would make me lose weight and it only made me pee the bed—when I was 12. It's just crazy. I can't even believe, like I—wow. Yeah," Eilish said before circling back to that pap photo: "I thought that I would be the only one dealing with my hatred for my body, but I guess the internet also hates my body. So that's great."

Model Hailey Bieber says she has healthier hair nowadays, and it is all due to the Covid pandemic. The 28-year-old confessed that the secret behind her healthy and shiny hair is taking vitamins intended for pregnant women

"My hair is so much healthier as a result of the pandemic. It`s because I`ve left it to its own devices and not dyed it in almost a year -- aside from touching up the front slightly -- but I really don`t care for highlights anymore," she said in an interview to SheerLuxe.com.

"Even so, I swear by prenatal supplements. I`ve gone through a lot of trial and error with supplements for healthy hair, but prenatal vitamins have been the most helpful. I can`t take biotin - if I do, I get really painful, deep breakouts. Most hair supplements marketed for growth don`t work for me, so I`ve been using prenatal vitamins for a while now as they give you essential nutrients, while keeping your skin and hair in great condition," added Hailey, who is married to pop star Justin Bieber.

Hailey also shared that she is mostly seen with a "slicked back" hairstyle because she uses hydrating oils and masks on her hair.

She said: "Day-to-day, slicked-back hair is my go-to style. Most of the time it`s because I have about four different oils or masks in there and I like to let it sit. I`ll apply loads -- castor oil, coconut oil and lovely nourishing formulas. I like to load my hair with hydrating products, put it up in a bun for two days and let everything absorb."

"I tried a plant-based diet for two months during the quarantine. I felt great and I had a lot of energy, but it was not for me. I don`t eat a strictly plant-based diet and I do still eat meat. I just don`t eat a lot of it. I`ve picked up more fish, greens, and lentils," she added.

Research led by psychology and neuroscience professor of the University of Montreal highlights that abnormally hyperactive areas in the brain may help better predict the onset of Alzheimer`s disease. In the study, the team led by Universite de Montreal psychology professor Sylvie Belleville found hyperactivation in certain brain areas in people not yet diagnosed with Alzheimer`s but who were worried about their memory and who exhibited risk factors for the disease.

The findings which were published in Alzheimer`s & Dementia: Diagnosis, Assessment & Disease Monitoring marks an important milestone in this research area, as the hyperactivation of regions susceptible to Alzheimer`s as shown by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), was observed in people with no clinical symptoms and before the onset of cognitive impairments detected with standardized tests. "This study indicates that abnormal activation in these areas may be observed many years before diagnosis," said Belleville.

Alzheimer`s disease is progressive and may emerge in the brain 20 to 30 years before diagnosis. It is therefore very important to pinpoint biomarkers -- that is, physical and detectable signs of the disease -- and to better understand the initial effects on the brain. Hyperactivation could therefore represent one of the first signs of Alzheimer`s disease, according to the researchers.

The team observed that, as the disease progresses, neuronal activation follows an inverse U-shape trajectory. Indeed, activation in certain areas of the brain in the early stages of Alzheimer`s may significantly increase before the neuronal loss that is caused by the disease leads to a clear decrease in inactivation."This form may characterize the underlying pathological process and help doctors determine the stage of the disease. When combined with other indicators such as blood work and cognitive tests, this type of neuroimaging investigation could help with possible earlier detection," explained Corriveau Lecavalier, the study`s first author.

For their study, the team used data from the Consortium for the Early Identification of Alzheimer`s Disease to study brain activation in groups of individuals at a high risk of developing Alzheimer`s disease who had performed a memory task while being scanned with fMRI.One group consisted of 28 individuals who were concerned about their memory but who did not show cognitive impairments on traditional clinical tests.

The other group included 26 individuals with mild cognitive impairments. The researchers found that the individuals in the first group, or those with memory complaints but who did not show objective cognitive impairments, had abnormally high levels of activation in multiple key regions of the brain affected by Alzheimer`s disease.

Individuals with mild cognitive impairments, who are considered to be at a more advanced stage of the disease, tended to show decreased activation in these brain regions.

Strange hyperactivation in brain can be early sign of Alzheimer's

Forget red and blue (states). The theme of the Biden inauguration was “America United,” and the colour of the day seemed to be purple — the shade that bridges the divide by bringing both colours together (not to mention one of the original signature colours of the suffragists, whose dreams are now being realized with the first female vice president).

Masks were also part of the material culture of this inauguration. Jill Biden wore a sky blue mask that appeared custom-made to match her coat, and other members of her family chose a similar monochromatic theme.
Italian luxury label Prada has ended all cooperation with Chinese actress Zheng Shuang, a week after appointing her as a brand ambassador, after she was engulfed in a surrogacy controversy that has enthralled the Chinese public.

Prada made the announcement late on Tuesday, after coming under heavy criticism on Chinese social media for cooperating with 30-year-old Zheng, whose former partner Zhang Heng has accused her of trying to abandon two young children the couple had through a U.S.-based surrogate.

It is the latest global brand to succumb to public pressure in China, where customers have become increasingly vocal about their expectations for the behaviour of companies and celebrities, especially foreign ones.

"The Prada Group has terminated all cooperation with Ms Zheng Shuang," the company said on its official Weibo account, without providing further details.

Prada did not respond to Reuters queries on Wednesday. Zheng and Zhang also did not answer Reuters` requests for comment.

China has become an increasingly important market for luxury labels during the global pandemic and its shoppers are expected to account for around half of all global spending on high-end brands in 2020, up from 37% in 2019, according to McKinsey & Company.

Prada has said the group`s China sales jumped 60% in June and 66% in July.

"The hit to Prada`s image is huge," said Huang Shengming, professor of the Communication University of China in Beijing. "Their decision to stop working with Zheng is an effort to cut their losses and it`s the right move."

SURROGACY CONTROVERSY

The controversy erupted on Monday after Zheng`s former partner Zhang Heng said on social media that the couple had turned to a surrogate to birth two children in the United States and released voice recordings of a woman he said was Zheng lamenting that the children could not be aborted.

Zhang said he was stranded in the United States because he had to take care of the two children born in 2019 and 2020.

Zheng quickly became the target of public criticism, with Weibo users calling her "irresponsible" and "vicious". The controversy has over the past three days been a top trending item on the Twitter-like site, with 600 million views and more than 100,000 comments.

Thousands of users also left comments on Prada`s Weibo account to question and ridicule the brand for hiring her.

On Tuesday, the actress said on her Weibo account that she had not violated laws in either China or the United States but did not comment on whether any of the accusations were true.

"It`s a very sad and private matter for me," she said.

Surrogacy is forbidden in China but going abroad to have surrogate children in countries such as the United States has increasingly become an option for some Chinese couples, especially wealthy ones.

Chinese state media have weighed in on the Zheng controversy. Changan Sword, an online media site backed by the Central Political and Legal Affairs Commission, criticised her for taking advantage of the law and "corrupting human ethics".

The lack of compliments and acts of kindness from their spouses is the top reason for female infidelity, reveals a study.

The survey was conducted by dating app Gleeden on over 11,000 female users and according to their responses, 84 percent of women complain about their partners not giving them enough attention and compliments whereas 61 percent admit that lack of compliments cause discussions and tension within the couple. Further, 77 percent of respondents admitted that this behaviour is the primary reason which brought them to stray away from their married life.

The survey added that 82 percent of the respondents stated that they need to feel appreciated and valued in their relationship, lack of which forces them to look elsewhere. For 76 percent, the lack of compliments undermines their ability to feel desirable and seductive. Lastly, 42 percent find it hard to feel sexually attracted and aroused towards someone who doesn`t feel the same way, forcing them to look for love outside the relationship.

The Journal of Sex Marital Therapy supports these revelations that an inattentive partner can have a devastating impact on a woman`s interest in the relationship. It states that women who regularly receive compliments from their fiance, husband, or boyfriend about their looks are more sexually fulfilled than others.

Tennis star Venus Williams is known for her dedication and wins on the court but when she is not smashing the tennis ball with her powerful moves, she loves to try all the latest beauty trends and treatments.

"Last year I did a wonderful whole-body peel. When I was done, my skin looked unreal. It took about three days for everything to just peel off," Williams, 40, said in the cover story for magazine NewBeauty's Winter 2021 issue. "My dermatologist in New York has incredible peels for the face and body, and the hands and feet peel so beautifully. And honestly, the butt peels so nicely, too. I love a good treatment."

"I'm all about prevention. I love anything that's going to help build collagen. I honestly like to keep it simpler and do something like a Laser Genesis treatment, some red light therapy, constant exfoliation, and chemical peels. Nothing too crazy, but those sorts of things really turn over your skin and make it look beautiful. And if you keep it up and can continue your routine at home, you'll be amazed at how well it works," she told NewBeauty.

While she's also tried "more intense treatments for prevention and correction" like non-invasive skin-tightening and lifting and radiofrequency contouring, the star decided they weren't right for her.

"They're both a little too painful for me, but they're definitely two gold standards for anti-aging," Williams said.

The star also opened up about turning 40 last June, which she admitted wasn't as big of a deal as people make it seem. "I'm really fine with it. I'm really fortunate to have really good genes, honestly. I think a lot of times it comes down to that and how you take care of yourself," Williams said.

Patients with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder have an increased risk of Parkinson`s disease later in life.

The study indicates that the increased risk may be due to alterations in the brain`s dopamine system caused by dopamine receptor antagonists or neurobiological effects of schizophrenia.

"According to our results, a previously diagnosed psychotic disorder or schizophrenia may be one factor that increases the risk of Parkinson`s disease later in life," said researcher Tomi Kuusimäki from the University of Turku in Finland.

For the study, published in the journal Movement Disorders, the researchers examined the occurrences of previously diagnosed psychotic disorders and schizophrenia in over 25,000 Finnish Parkinson`s disease patients treated between 1996 and 2019.

In the study, patients with Parkinson`s disease were noted to have previously diagnosed psychotic disorders and schizophrenia more often than the control patients of the same age not diagnosed with Parkinson`s disease.
Parkinson`s disease is currently the most rapidly increasing neurological disorder in the world. It is a neurodegenerative disorder that is most common in patients over 60 years of age. The cardinal motor symptoms include shaking, stiffness and slowness of movement.

In Parkinson`s disease, the neurons located in the substantia nigra in the midbrain slowly degenerate, which leads to deficiency in a neurotransmitter called dopamine.
As for schizophrenia, the dopamine level increases in some parts of the brain. In addition, the pharmacotherapies used in the primary treatment of Parkinson`s disease and schizophrenia appear to have contrasting mechanisms of action.

Anderson Cooper recently talked about when he realised he was gay and when he 'really, truly accepted' his identity. Answering viewer questions, Cooper, 53, said that he first knew "something was up" around the age of 7.

"Especially when you grow up, kind of feeling like you're on the outside of things, and you're kind of an observer of things or not necessarily in the mainstream, you see society from a slightly different view. And I think that can be very valuable, and can impact how you treat other people, and how you see things. So yeah, it's enabled me to love the people that I've loved and have the life that I've had, so I'm very blessed."

"But then at a certain point, I think about a year out of college, I thought, I don't want to waste any more time worrying about this and sort of wishing I was some other way." "Especially when you grow up, kind of feeling like you're on the outside of things, and you're kind of an observer of things or not necessarily in the mainstream, you see society from a slightly different view. And I think that can be very valuable, and can impact how you treat other people, and how you see things. So yeah, it's enabled me to love the people that I've loved and have the life that I've had, so I'm very blessed." Cooper came out publicly in 2012, saying in a statement at the time that he "couldn't be any more happy, comfortable with myself, and proud." In 2016, he became the first out gay man to moderate a presidential debate. Cooper welcomed his first child, son Wyatt Morgan, in April of last year, and said last month that being a dad is "truly the greatest thing ever." Cooper co-parents Wyatt with his former partner Benjamin Maisani.

Lohri, the harvest festival celebrated in January, marks the end of winter and the time to harvest rabi crops.A bonfire is lit, families whirl around it singing Punjabi folk songs and popping sesame seeds, popcorn, jaggery and rewaris.

Like any other Indian festival, Lohri is incomplete without some appetising, traditional foods which we list here.

1. Makki Ki Roti: It is a tradition to prepare `Makki Ki Roti` or maize bread to mark the festival. The bread is prepared with fresh ground corn, enlivened up with grated radish, radish leaves, coriander leaves, chopped green chilies and not to forget, lots of white butter.

2. Pakode: Quick and crispy `fritters` are served as starters to the main course. Onion, potato, cauliflower, chilly florets are spiced and dipped into gram flour batter, and fried till they turn crispy golden brown. They are mostly served with green coriander chutney or else can be served with red tomato ketchup too.

3. Sarso Ka Saag: Sarso Da Saag and Makki Di Roti is an unmatched combination that is a must in every Lohri thaali. The mustard greens and spinach are prepared with onion tomato gravy and garlic paste. Laced with `desi ghee`, the aromatic dish is a not-to-miss food.

4. Dahi Bhalle: The soft yet crisp dumplings made with Urad daal, dunked into sour yogurt are served with roasted cumin powder, red chilly powder, and a special ingredient, pomegranate seeds.

5. Gajar ka halwa: One of the dishes for which foodies wait for the winter season or Lohri is `Gajar Ka Halwa`. The dessert which is prepared from red carrots and milk is one of the mouth-watering dishes anybody could crave for. For adding a more relishing touch to your dish, add grated `Khoya` (dried evaporated milk solids), chopped cashews, and almonds to it.

6. Murmure ke laddoo: The lightest sweet snack is prepared by rolling rice puffs with jaggery into balls. Jaggery should not be melted at a high temperature otherwise it can burst the rice puffs.

7. Aate ke laddoo: Famous as `Pinni` in Punjabi, the roasted sweet is made with wheat flour and chopped almonds laced with pure ghee and edible gum (commonly prepared with melted jaggery). These laddoos are a never-miss item on your platter.

8. Til ki chikki: The square-shaped flat sweet made with sesame seed and jaggery will please your taste buds. To add a little chef-touch to the sweet, brittle it with a hint of cardamon.

London, Jan 10 (IANS) If you want to beat lockdown and social distancing blues, head to green spaces and switch off TV, computer and smartphone as this will dramatically improve your mental health, say researchers, including one of Indian-origin, as several countries including the UK impose fresh restrictions amid surge in Covid numbers.

Being outdoors, particularly in green spaces, can improve mental health by promoting more positive body image, and lowering levels of depression and anxiety.

A new study, published in the Journal of Happiness Studies, said that spending time outdoors and switching off our devices is associated with higher levels of happiness during a period of Covid-19 restrictions.

"Our results are important in this context because they show that being able to spend time outdoors under conditions of lockdown has a beneficial impact on psychological well being," said co-lead author Viren Swami, Professor of Social Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).

"Being outdoors provides opportunities to escape from the stresses of being confined at home, maintain social relationships with others, and engage in physical activity - all of which can improve mental health".

Jointly led by academics from Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) in the UK, the Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences in Austria, and Perdana University in Malaysia, new research examined how levels of happiness during a national lockdown were affected by being outdoors, the amount of daily screen time and feelings of loneliness.

Using an experience sampling method (ESM), the researchers measured levels of happiness amongst a group of 286 adults three times a day, at random intervals, over a 21-day period.

This allowed the participants to provide data in real-time rather than retrospectively, helping to avoid recall biases.

The team found that levels of happiness were higher when participants were outdoors rather than indoors.

In addition, more daily screen time and higher levels of loneliness were both associated with lower levels of happiness.

The impact of loneliness on happiness was also weaker when participants were outdoors.

"While lockdowns can help slow down the transmission of Covid-19, research has also shown that prolonged periods of lockdown take their toll on mental health," Swami said.

"Our findings have practical health policy implications. Given that further lockdown restrictions have now become necessary in the UK, public health messages that promote getting some fresh air instead of staying indoors and staring at our screens could really help to lift people`s mood this winter," Swami elaborated.

Men with localised prostate cancer who reported a baseline dietary pattern that more closely follows the key principles of a Mediterranean-style diet fared better over the course of their disease, suggest the findings of a new study.

"Men with prostate cancer are motivated to find a way to impact the advancement of their disease and improve their quality of life," said Justin Gregg, M.D., assistant professor of Urology and lead author of the study, published today in Cancer."A Mediterranean diet is non-invasive, good for overall health and, as shown by this study, has the potential to affect the progression of their cancer," added Gregg.

After adjusting for factors known to increase risk of cancer getting worse over time, such as age, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) and tumour volume, men with a diet that contained more fruits, vegetables, legumes, cereals and fish had a reduced risk of their prostate cancer growing or advancing to a point where many would consider active treatment. The researchers also examined the effect of diabetes and statin use and found a similar risk reduction in these patient groups.

The study, whose largest number of participants were white, also found that the effect of a Mediterranean diet was more pronounced in African American participants and others who self-identified as non-white.

These findings are significant as the rate of a prostate cancer diagnosis is more than 50% higher in African American men, who also have a higher risk of prostate cancer death and disease progression."The Mediterranean diet consistently has been linked to lower risk of cancer, cardiovascular disease and mortality. This study in men with early-stage prostate cancer gets us another step closer to providing evidence-based dietary recommendations to optimize outcomes in cancer patients, who along with their families, have many questions in this area," said Carrie Daniel-MacDougall, PhD, associate professor of Epidemiology and senior author of the study.

After skin cancer, prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men in the United States. Since most cases are low-risk disease, localized to the prostate and have favourable outcomes, many men do not need immediate treatment and opt for active surveillance by their doctor.

Treatments for prostate cancer can cause changes in quality of life and declines in urinary and sexual function, therefore there is interest in finding modifiable factors for men managed by active surveillance.

The study followed 410 men on an active surveillance protocol with Gleason grade group 1 or 2 localized prostate cancer. All study participants underwent a confirmatory biopsy at the beginning of the study and were evaluated every six months through the clinical exam and laboratory studies of serum antigen PSA and testosterone.Trial participants were 82.9 percent Caucasian, 8.1 percent Black and 9 percent other or unknown.

The median age was 64, 15 per cent of the men were diabetic and 44 per cent used statins. The men completed a 170-item baseline food frequency questionnaire, and Mediterranean diet score was calculated for each participant across 9 energy-adjusted food groups. The participants were then divided into three groups of the high, medium, and low adherence to the diet.

After adjustments for age and clinical characteristics, researchers saw a significant association between high baseline diet score and lower risk of cancer grade progression. For every one-point increase in the Mediterranean diet score, researchers observed a greater than 10 per cent lower risk of progression. After a median follow-up of 36 months, 76 men saw their cancer progress.

The study was limited by the low number of events in these men with mostly low-risk disease monitored at MD Anderson. Future research is needed to see if the same effects are seen for larger and more diverse patient groups and men with higher-risk prostate cancer."Our findings suggest that consistently following a diet rich in plant foods, fish and a healthy balance of monounsaturated fats may be beneficial for men diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer," Gregg said."We are hopeful that these results, paired with additional research and future validation, will encourage patients to adopt a healthy lifestyle," added Gregg.

Becoming a mother is an incredible experience, and in the process of bringing a new life into the world, a woman goes through many emotional and physical changes.

"From breastfeeding to changing diapers, many new things become a part of your daily routine. While taking care of your newborn is important, following a self-care routine should also be a priority for mothers," says Prathibha Babshet, a doctor Ayurveda Expert, R&D, The Himalaya Drug Company.

Here are a few easy tips shared by Babshet that will help new mothers navigate through the journey of motherhood:

Mom care:

Stretch marks are one of the most common skin concerns faced by new moms. When looking for a product that can help manage stretch marks, you can never go wrong with products that are infused with an herb-oil-butter complex. You can opt for a stretch mark cream or oil with an infusion of herbs like Pomegranate, Licorice, and Centella asiatica, oils like Almond Oil, Olive Oil, and Wheat Germ Oil, Virgin Coconut Oil, Sesame Oil, and butters like Kokum, Mango, and Shea. These will help improve skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of stretch marks. It is advisable to always choose skincare products with the goodness of natural ingredients, which makes them safe and gentle to use.

Maintain optimum hygiene:

With a newborn, a new mom is also prone to infections and can pass them on to baby as well. So, pay special attention to hygiene ? wash your hands often, wipe/clean your breasts after breastfeeding, and maintain personal hygiene.

Rest is a must:

Babies have different time clocks than adults, so try to sleep when your baby sleeps and delegate other household responsibilities.

Nutrition:

Your body undergoes many changes during pregnancy and childbirth. So, in addition to rest, you must eat a healthy diet, as it is good for both your baby and you. Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep yourself hydrated.

Baby care:

Diapers are hygiene essentials for a newborn and choosing the right diaper will ensure your baby`s comfort and good sleep as well. Opt for diapers that are specially designed for comfort, protection, and total care of your newborn`s skin with an anti-rash shield that helps prevents diaper rashes. A pant-style design offers a soft and comfortable fit and is easy to pull on and off. Keep changing the diaper frequently to avoid diaper rashes and use diapers infused with the goodness of natural ingredients like Aloe Vera and Yashad Bhasma, as both the ingredients form a protective anti-rash shield that helps prevent diaper rashes.

With the above tips, you must also know that a new mother`s body is weak for the first couple of weeks. So, don`t miss the doctor`s appointment, and in case you experience fever, dizziness, pain, or any discomfort, consult your doctor immediately.

Plus-size model Paloma Elsesser is the latest to make it to the four January 2021 covers of Vogue magazine. The previous ones are actress Frances McDormand, then tennis player Naomi Osaka and now Paloma Elsesser.

Paloma is seen wearing a translucent Michael Kors Collection dress as she stands in a water body. The shoot was styled by Gabriella Karefa-Johnson, who started out as an intern in the Vogue fashion closet.

Sharing the cover, she wrote, “This is the first Vogue cover styled by a black woman. This is my first Vogue cover. It was shot by Annie Leibovitz and that’s just about the wildest thing I’ve ever heard.”

Gabriella Karefa-Johnson continued, “Vogue is where I grew up. This is a dream I didn’t know if I’d realize and I’m just so proud of myself, and proud of [Paloma], and proud of [Latisha Chong], and proud of [Janelle Okwodu], and happy for the little black girls who can go to the newsstand and buy the worlds most powerful fashion magazine and see themselves on the cover and in the creative team that brought it to life.”

This is Paloma Elsesser’s first solo cover for American Vogue. In an emotional video on her own Instagram, she opened up the magazine while video-chatting with her family. In another post, she wrote that the shoot was a “surreal” experience — to work and collaborate with women she “so deeply” admires, and to shoot an American Vogue cover as a “chubby, short, mixed-race women who never imagined this would be her reality.”

It was shot by Annie Leibovitz and that’s just about the wildest thing I’ve ever heard.” Gabriella Karefa-Johnson continued, “Vogue is where I grew up. This is a dream I didn’t know if I’d realize and I’m just so proud of myself, and proud of [Paloma], and proud of [Latisha Chong], and proud of [Janelle Okwodu], and happy for the little black girls who can go to the newsstand and buy the worlds most powerful fashion magazine and see themselves on the cover and in the creative team that brought it to life.” This is Paloma Elsesser’s first solo cover for American Vogue. In an emotional video on her own Instagram, she opened up the magazine while video-chatting with her family. In another post, she wrote that the shoot was a “surreal” experience — to work and collaborate with women she “so deeply” admires, and to shoot an American Vogue cover as a “chubby, short, mixed-race women who never imagined this would be her reality.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by paloma elsesser (@palomija) × “Although my heart swells with gratitude, I am not satisfied,” Elsesser’s Instagram post continued. “I urge fashion to never let this momentum [cease] until seeing bodies and experiences like mine and beyond are no longer radical, no longer different; no longer rare. Paloma Elsesser wants ‘fashion to never let this momentum seize until seeing bodies like mine and beyond are no longer radical’

As I lay on a hammock over the white sand that looked like icing sugar, the sommelier of Heritance Aarah Resort walked up to me and offered some of his famous signature cocktails that would go so sparklingly well with the pristine sunset view. In the mood for some kiwi and lime as base, I asked Steve to surprise me. A gentle ocean breeze lulled me to a sunset siesta as I heard the coconut leaves rustling and murmuring along with the light roaring of the waves. Before me, the peacock hues of the Indian ocean were slowly turning shades of pink, as if a painter had dipped his brush in the azure water.

Travelers like me were itching for a beach vacation ever since the worldwide lockdown started in March due to the pandemic. So when the Maldives Tourism Board announced that tourists no longer need to go for a 14-day quarantine in the island country and can prefer to stay for a week and even hop resorts, I was game!

One fine morning in October, I found myself on an Air India flight from Trivandrum to Male, the only flight that was operating from India then on a weekly frequency.

Flying in the New Normal

While I have been taking domestic flights since September, I made my post-lockdown debut of flying international only in October.

One needs a mandatory Covid Negative (RT-PCR test) report done from an ICMR https://www.icmr.gov.in/ listed laboratories. To get a visa on arrival at Male Airport in Maldives, I made sure the sample was collected not before 96 hours from my first port of journey. The same process is required when you would need to enter India from an international destination.

With the negative report in my hand, I had to web check in 24 hours before the flight and upload the test report on Maldives Government’s designated website detailing out my travel itinerary for smooth process of Visa on Arrival.

I boarded the flight to find myself on a window side on the left for better view of the ocean when landing. Forty minutes whisked away munching on the airline provided dry fruits and sipping on fruit juice, and the flight started descending. As I aerially surveyed the navy-blue sea turning turquoise, the flight landed at Velana International Airport in Male. The visa process was smooth with a smiling immigration officer wishing us a great vacation.

Sunny Side of Life

After a scenic seaplane ride that flies only at 12000 feet above the sea-level thus giving a great glimpse of the ocean and islands, we found ourselves at Heritance Aarah Resort. The seaplane lands at a jetty right at the entrance of the resort and a buggy through a wooden bridge over the ocean takes you to the reception area. There is a Covid Assistance Desk at the jetty, where the incoming luggage from the plane got sanitized, thermal screening done, and hands sanitized.

While the staffs are mandated to wear masks all the time, it’s up to the tourists as they all have tested negative in the last four days. We threw away our masks in the air like the graduates do with their caps. The sunny side of life is real with a true ‘mask free’ vacation.

This resort oozes luxury with a Maldivian traditional vigour. Ocean Villa, our home for the next four days was a traditional Maldivian thatched roof cottage over the shimmering lagoon, overlooking an infinite horizon. The resort architecture anyway offers social distancing with all facilities set apart. From the glass-bottomed bedrooms, we could spot tons of manta rays, baby sharks, clown fish and more. There was a staircase leading directly to the water, which one could enjoy privately.

We booked ourselves on an all-inclusive package. This package includes an assigned butler, all meals including breakfast, alcohols in room, mini bar and access to all facilities except the water activities. The meal selection was crafted to give us the ultimate experience.

We began our day with a breakfast at Ranlu. Keeping in mind the social distancing norms, all meals are to be ordered from ala carte. The lunch will be at the same restaurant and often we would cherish the sunset with a drink from Pool Bar with an infinity pool. The mixologist Steve Fernandes, a Sri Lankan descendent understood the art of mixology so well that we would wait for the evening for the magic to happen. For a traditional Maldivian meal, we also had a lavish meal at Ambula where the chefs conduct a workshop on Dhivehi cuisine, predominantly consisting of tuna fish and coconut.

Rediscovering Maldives

Maldives follows the unique concept of one island one resort, which really came handy during the pandemic. So, each island has only one resort without any other office buildings or markets. Basically, you get to enjoy the whole island on your own.

After a luxurious stay at Heritance, our next destination was Kandima Maldives. While the earlier one was responsible luxury, Kandima on the other hand is more of a peppy cool hospitality on offer. A Manta Air seaplane flew us there.

While the cottage here is Aqua Villa, meaning a modern concrete cottage with a jacuzzi overlooking the ocean. Having said that we would swim all day right under our cottage simply because the water level lower.

It’s here, where we booked ourselves for an activity driven stay. Being one of the largest islands in Maldives, Kandima has a vast expanse to explore. The next morning, we headed on a boat for a snorkeling session. The boat takes you to the middle of the ocean where water depth is more than hundred feet. Armoured in life jackets, swimming fins and a snorkel, we dived in. The initial experience was scary with water pressure making me claustrophobic, but our instructor helped us overcome the fear. The thumb rule is never to imagine that the water level is too deep under you. For the next 60 minutes, we witnessed a parallel world underwater with turtles, sharks, and a thousand variety of fish swimming around you. And how could you miss the majestic coral reef gorgeously tinted in brown, green and red. We returned happy like a therapy session underwater. The evening was scheduled for a sunset cruise, where you ride a boat to catch the best view of the sea meeting the infinity of the sky. With snacks and drinks, we relished the sun going down turning the sky into a festival of Holi.

We had a slice of every activity the resort offered. Besides we also availed cycling, evening yoga and a spa session where you could hear the roar of the ocean while the expert masseuse wearing masks take you to a new dimension of comfort. It wasn’t just any stay.

The resort General Manager is an Indian born, Neeraj Seth, who took us to a secret patch on the ocean. It required us to walk in water, the level ranging from knee to chin. And we reached the sand patch, which popped out of water with waves breaking on it.

On our last evening at the island, the resort had arranged for a Chinese dinner on the beach. The place was lit up with Chinese ball lights and the set up looked straight out of a fairytale. As we relished on seafood, we made a promise to return to the island nation again. While Maldives’ sand, sea and the sun make the place a heaven on earth, the warmth of the local people make the experience unforgettable.
For a traditional Maldivian meal, we also had a lavish meal at Ambula where the chefs conduct a workshop on Dhivehi cuisine, predominantly consisting of tuna fish and coconut. Rediscovering Maldives Maldives follows the unique concept of one island one resort, which really came handy during the pandemic. Hasta la Vista, Maldives!
