In a unique medical case, the doctors came across a 34-year-old patient, identified as Davey Bauer, whose lungs were infected badly with a drug-resistant strain of bacteria and they could not be changed with a fresh pair of lungs in a single move.

Although the medical specialists working at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago had a machine which could have filled the space of the absent organs for some days while any remaining infection was cleared, there was no conventional way to fill the huge gap which would be created by the removal of lungs in the chest of the patient.

However, the surgeons came up with a never-heard solution for Bauer which was a pair of DD breast implants which were placed where his old lungs were once working.

"Someone who is actively dying and was so sick like David, generally, will have no option of transplant, and they generally just die," stated chief thoracic surgeon Ankit Bharat, while speaking to CNN.

"We had to come up with a strategy to do something that we've never done before,” he added.

<h2>'Lungs started to liquefy because of infection'</h2>

Bauer was a chain smoker in his early 20s, but he switched to vaping in 2014, while considering it as a healthier alternative.

After he caught influenza in April, the doctors found his lungs in no state to cope and he easily caught a secondary infection, which was not getting cleared by any antibiotic.

Bauer, who was desperately short of breath, reached a St Louis hospital, where he was put on an ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) system.

The system took over the task of the lungs of balancing the gases of his blood.

"Davey's lungs were so heavily infected that they started to liquefy," stated Northwestern Medicine pulmonologist Rade Tomic, while speaking to Science Alert.

"If you looked at his X-ray, there was nothing left – the lungs were completely filled with puss. When we received a call from Davey's medical team in St. Louis, we thought we could help him, but it was also very clear he wouldn't survive the transplant in his current condition. He needed to clear the infection before we could list him for transplant, but the only way to do that was to remove both lungs. This was unchartered territory for us, but our team knew if we couldn't help Davey, no one else could,” he added.

Bizarre operation: Doctors save a man's life with breast implants. Here's what happened

After closely observing the atmosphere of Venus, astronomers have now detected clear signs of atomic oxygen in the daylight area, above the toxic clouds of the neighbouring planet.

As per the team of astronomers, headed by physicist Heinz-Wilhelm Hubers of the German Aerospace Center (DLR), it has been known that atomic oxygen exists in the atmosphere of the planet as per the theoretical models, and has been detected before on the nightside of the Venus.

However, the detection of oxygen on the dayside has added a new insight into the dynamics of the atmosphere on Venus and its circulation patterns, the team added.

Scientists have been trying to study Venus in greater detail because of the similarities it shares with Earth. The planet's mass and composition are similar to that of Earth's but in comparison to life on our planet, Venus is just a death pit.

The planet is surrounded by thick, choking clouds which are mostly made up of carbon dioxide. These clouds create a greenhouse environment which leads to the planet's average surface temperatures around 464 degrees Celsius (867 Fahrenheit).

The clouds lead to acid rain on Venus and the atmosphere rotates at a tremendous rate around the planet. The scientists by understanding Venus' atmosphere are also able to understand the difference between the neighbouring planet and our planet.

<h2>What is atomic oxygen?</h2>

Atomic oxygen is not similar to the oxygen humans breathe on Earth. The oxygen found on Earth is molecular oxygen, or O2, which consists of two atoms of oxygen bound together.

Atomic oxygen has only one oxygen atom, and generally, it does not last long because it is highly reactive and easily bonds with other atoms. Atomic oxygen is found in abundance at high altitude places on Earth where it is created through the photodissociation of molecular oxygen. In this process, atmospheric O2 is broken into two parts by solar photons.

It is believed that a similar process takes place on the planet Venus. The atmosphere of Venus is predominantly filled with carbon dioxide and when the sunlight hits this CO2, the molecules are broken into atomic oxygen and carbon monoxide by photodissociation.

The atomic oxygen was found in high concentration on 17 locations on Venus. The molecules were present at an altitude of about 100 kilometres (62 miles).

"Future observations, especially near the antisolar and subsolar points but also at all solar zenith angles, will provide a more detailed picture of this peculiar region and support future space missions to Venus," the researchers stated.

"Along with measurements of atomic oxygen in the atmospheres of Earth and Mars, these data may help to improve our understanding of how and why Venus and Earth's atmospheres are so different,” they added.

Life on Venus? Astronomers detect oxygen in dayside atmosphere of planet

In a stunning claim, the scientists have stated that an infrared northern lights-style aurora, which was spotted on Uranus, is likely to be holding the key to finding alien life.

The scientific researchers spotted the aurora on the distant planet while they were observing the temperatures of the gas giants in the Solar System and hoping that their findings could explain the magnetic fields of other planets, which are closer to Earth.

This is likely to help researchers discover if alien life is being supported by distant planets.

Speaking about the discovery, University of Leicester's Physicist Emma Thomas, who was the lead author of the new study, stated, "The temperature of all the gas giant planets, including Uranus, are hundreds of degrees Kelvin/Celsius above what models predict if only warmed by the Sun, leaving us with the big question of how these planets are so much hotter than expected?"

"By analysing Uranus’s aurora which directly connects to both the planet's magnetic field and atmosphere, we can make predictions about the atmospheres and magnetic fields of these worlds and hence their suitability for life,” she added while speaking to the Daily Star.

As per the latest study, if two decaying stars get involved in a rare cataclysmic collision in the Milky Way galaxy, it can rip off the protective ozone layer from Earth and lead to the mass extinction of all life forms on the planet.

Till now, only some similar neutron star collision events, which are known as kilonovas, have been observed by astronomers. If such an explosion occurs in Earth's close proximity, it may turn dangerous for life on Earth, stated scientists, including those who worked at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the United States.

The research, which is yet-to-be peer-reviewed, can help determine the possibility of life surviving on other worlds, which are close to these star collision events.

The biggest threat to the planes from such a collision between stars is the burst of radiation from them, which includes an X-ray afterglow they produce and gamma rays, as per the scientists.

“Ionizing radiation from these sources can be dangerous for life on Earth-like planets when located too close,” stated researchers, in the study. The possibilities of these events and how they will affect Earth were studied by scientists on the basis of an analysis of what we know is the first-ever neutron star collision detected, a stellar event called GW170817.

The researchers stated that any living thing which is present within the narrow range of around 297 light-years (97 parsecs) of such an explosion faces the possibility of getting burned by powerful gamma radiation.

<h2>Explosion can rip off Earth's&nbsp;stratospheric ozone</h2>

If the Earth was in such a zone, scientists stated that the stratospheric ozone may get stripped from the Earth due to the radiation, which may require some years to recover.

The scientists said that the x-rays from the afterglow of the kilonova are likely to be more lethal as they are likely to last longer than the gamma-ray emissions, adding that the life-destroying effects will remain within about 16 light years.

“For baseline kilonova parameters, we find that the X-ray emission from the afterglow may be lethal out to ∼5 pc and the off-axis gamma-ray emission may threaten a range out to ∼4 pc,” noted scientists.

“The greatest threat comes years after the explosion, from the cosmic rays accelerated by the kilonova blast, which can be lethal out to distances up to ∼ 11 pc,” they stated.

The study, however, cautioned that the findings have “significant uncertainties” and they will depend on the “viewing angle, ejected mass, and explosion energy”.

“The rarity of binary neutron star mergers combined with a small range of lethality means that they are probably not important threats to life on Earth. We find that the mean recurrence time of lethal mergers at the location of the Sun is much larger than the age of the Universe,” they stated.

Collision between rare stars in Milky Way to end life on Earth, says study

Amid the ongoing efforts to understand Mars' habitability, scientists have recently found a new idea that the evidence of life on the red planet is probably hiding in an ancient mud lake, as per the latest research.

Although, they have not been able to identify the specific regions where evidence of life must be searched, however, they have come to the conclusion that regions with plenty of sediments will be a good starting point.

This is one of the reasons why NASA's Perseverance rover has been placed in Jezero Crater, which is the site of an ancient paleolake and has sediment deposits around one km deep. However, the planet has many such sediment-rich regions. So the question arises, in which places should scientists look for life to widen their scope?

<h2>Selecting sediment-rich regions to explore life on Mars</h2>

In the research paper, the researchers have stated, "The quest for past Martian life hinges on locating surface formations linked to ancient habitability.”

One region which has attracted the attention of scientists is where the material from the Southern Highlands of Mars is carried by the massive outflow channels into its Northern Lowlands and towards the east of Valles Marineris.

In these northern lowlands, there have been reports of accumulation of massive amounts of sediments, which might suggest that it is a good place for exploration. However, the authors of a new paper said that this might be a mistake.

The paper has been titled "Exploring the evidence of Middle Amazonian aquifer sedimentary outburst residues in a Martian chaotic terrain". It was published in Nature Scientific Reports, and its lead author is Alexis Rodriguez, who is a Senior Researcher at the Planetary Science Institute.

According to Rodriguez, scientists should look into the source of the sediments and not explore the region where the sediments flow.

"Venturing into the northern plains for sampling could prove precarious, as distinguishing between materials sourced from the aquifers and those eroded and transported during channel formation could become an intricate task," stated Rodriguez.

"The plains, situated within Hydraotes Chaos, offer a unique glimpse into ancient aquifer materials. These plains, which we think formed from mud extruding into a basin directly above their source aquifer, provide a more targeted exploration opportunity," Rodriguez added, as reported by sciencealert.com.

"Unlike vast flood channels with their complex erosion patterns, this finding simplifies the examination of Martian aquifers, reducing the risk of overland sedimentary acquisition, and opens a new window into Mars' geological past," he further stated.

However, the authors of a new paper said that this might be a mistake. The paper has been titled "Exploring the evidence of Middle Amazonian aquifer sedimentary outburst residues in a Martian chaotic terrain". It was published in Nature Scientific Reports, and its lead author is Alexis Rodriguez, who is a Senior Researcher at the Planetary Science Institute. According to Rodriguez, scientists should look into the source of the sediments and not explore the region where the sediments flow. Watch | Scientists surprised by source of largest quake detected on Mars "Venturing into the northern plains for sampling could prove precarious, as distinguishing between materials sourced from the aquifers and those eroded and transported during channel formation could become an intricate task," stated Rodriguez. "The plains, situated within Hydraotes Chaos, offer a unique glimpse into ancient aquifer materials. These plains, which we think formed from mud extruding into a basin directly above their source aquifer, provide a more targeted exploration opportunity," Rodriguez added, as reported by sciencealert.com. "Unlike vast flood channels with their complex erosion patterns, this finding simplifies the examination of Martian aquifers, reducing the risk of overland sedimentary acquisition, and opens a new window into Mars' geological past," he further stated. Mangosuthu Buthelezi, a veteran apartheid-era South African politician and Zulu prince, died at 95, the country's president announced on Saturday. He stated, "I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, the Prince of KwaPhindangene, Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Monarch and Nation, and the Founder and President Emeritus of the Inkatha Freedom Party." The Zulu chief was a controversial figure who had a seat in South Africa's National Assembly. He had a long political career, during which he led a movement that underwent deadly clashes with the African National Congress. Here's everything you need to know about Mangosuthu Buthelezi. Mangosuthu Buthelezi education & early political career Mangosuthu Buthelezi was born on 27 August,1928 in Mahlabatini, South Africa. He came from a line of Zulu chiefs. Buthelezi attended the South African Native College and was a member of ANC's Youth League. He completed his degree from the University of Natal. He started his career at South Africa's Department of Native Affairs in 1951. In 1953, he assumed his role as the hereditary chief of the Bulthelezi clan of Zulus. However, the South African government did not recognise his chieftainship until 1957. In 1970, he became the chief executive officer of the newly formed Zulu Territorial Authority. Two years later, he became the chief executive councillor of the KwaZulu Legislative Assembly. In 1976, he became the chief minister of the KwaZulu Bantustan, a collection of 11 scattered Zulu exclaves located within the Natal province. ALSO READ | India offers support to Morocco after devastating earthquake, over 2000 deaths Mangosuthu Buthelezi controversies Mangosuthu Buthelezi had an unusual combination of strategies to achieve his personal political goals. In 1975, the former ANC member founded Inkatha, a movement he converted to the Inkatha Freedom Party in 1990, an outfit based on an ideology of Zulu nationalism. However, he had a pro-capitalist stance, contrary to the socialist ideals embraced by other black liberation groups. During the 1980s and early 1990s, Inkatha had a strong following in KwaZulu-Natal and Transvaal Provinces. However, the violent clashes between Inkatha and the ANC during this period are considered one of the deadliest in South African history and hurt Buthelezi's political career. Later, ANC leader Nelson Mandela appointed him Minister of Home Affairs in a coalition government. Even when Mandela left office, he retained his seat in the National Assembly. Mangosuthu Buthelezi cause of death The family statement does not mention Buthelezi's cause of death. He died after a few weeks of being released from the hospital, following months of treatment for a complication that arose from a medical procedure for back pain management. The family members of a 26-year-old doctor, who committed suicide last year, claimed that work-life imbalance and working more than 200 hours overtime every month took a toll on him as they called for a change in the overwork culture which has plagued the country for years.&nbsp;

Takashima Shingo was posted as a resident doctor at a hospital in Kobe City when he committed suicide last May, as per the public broadcaster NHK.

According to the lawyers of the family, Takashima had to work more than 207 hours of overtime in the month of April and could not take a day off for three months, reported NHK.&nbsp;

Last week, Hospital Konan Medical Centre refuted the allegations in a press conference. However, in June, the labour inspection body of the government ruled that the man's death was a work-related incident because of prolonged working hours, as per NHK, which also highlighted the immense pressure that health care workers face.

For long, Japan has battled a persistent overwork culture, as employees across different sectors report punishing hours, deference to the company and high pressure from supervisors, as per the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

The mental health toll and increasing stress have also caused a phenomenon called “karoshi,” or “death by overwork”, which resulted in legislation aimed at preventing injury and death from excessive work hours.&nbsp;

In a press conference last Friday (August 18), the family of Takashima claimed that the young man was driven to desperation and expressed their sorrow over his sudden demise.

<h2>'Too hard', complained the man who committed suicide</h2>

Before his suicide, his mother Junko Takashima stated that the doctor would complain “it was too hard” and that “no one would help him,” as per a video published by local media of the news conference.

“'No one is looking out for me,' he kept telling me. I think the environment put him over the edge. My son will not become a kind doctor, nor will he be able to save patients and contribute to society,” she stated. “However, I sincerely hope that the working environment for doctors will improve&nbsp;so that the same thing will not happen again in the future," she added.&nbsp;

Last week, the Konan Medical Centre pushed back the allegations in the press conference.&nbsp;

“There are many times when (doctors) spend time studying on their own and sleeping according to their physiological needs. Due to the very high degree of freedom, it is not possible to accurately determine working hours," said a spokesperson.

"While the star in d203-506 is a small red dwarf, the system is bombarded by strong ultraviolet (UV) light from nearby hot, young, massive stars. Scientists believe that most planet-forming disks go through a period of such intense UV radiation since stars tend to form in groups that often include massive, UV-producing stars," NASA stated.

NASA said that generally complex organic molecules are destroyed by UV radiation and hence, the discovery of CH3+ is a big achievement.

"However, the team predicts that UV radiation might actually provide the necessary source of energy for CH3+ to form in the first place. Once formed, it then promotes additional chemical reactions to build more complex carbon molecules. Broadly, the team notes that the molecules they see in d203-506 are quite different from typical protoplanetary disks. In particular, they could not detect any signs of water," stated NASA.

A hint of life in universe? NASA makes breakthrough discovery of carbon molecule in space

Scientists have discovered thousands of other worlds, but they are not like Earth like perhaps we may have been looking in the wrong places. A new exciting discovery has opened a whole new chapter in our search for extraterrestrial life. We have always wondered whether we are alone in the universe and whether there is life somewhere outside of a rocky planet.

Why haven't we found alien life yet

Compared to Earth, the moon is a barren land. It is devoid of flowing water, wispy clouds and any signs of life. However, a scientist from NASA thinks that there's more to the moon than just a barren land. NASA planetary scientist Prabal Saxena has proposed that the lunar South pole may harbour conditions suitable for microbial life.

Indian-American father sacrifices life saving son from drowning at California beach

Is there life beyond Earth? It is one of the most profound questions of all time. The hunt for an answer is going on for decades. A study now suggests the possibility of life existing on planets orbiting the stars of the Milky Way galaxy. One-third of the planets orbiting the most common stars across the galaxy may harbour life.

One-third of Milky Way Planets may hold conditions to support life: Study

&nbsp;A new threat to life on the planet Earth has been identified by astronomers that may reach from deep space and will be beyond the control of humans.&nbsp;

The Chandra X-ray Observatory as well as other telescopes were used by astronomers to identify the phase when the &nbsp;X-rays which are generated by the explosion of stars can actually affect life on planets which are 100 light-years away, including Earth. According to a new study, exploded stars have become more dangerous for the planets compared to the threat they carried with them before.

The scientists identified the threat in the blast wave which is generated from the explosion of stars that produce the X-rays in large amounts which reaches planets like Earth in months or years after the explosion occurs and are likely to last for decades.&nbsp;

&nbsp;"Such intense exposure may trigger an extinction event on the planet," &nbsp;said the astronomers in a press release.

“If a torrent of X-rays sweeps over a nearby planet, the radiation would severely alter the planet's atmospheric chemistry. For an Earth-like planet, this process could wipe out a significant portion of ozone, which ultimately protects life from the dangerous ultraviolet radiation of its host star,” said Ian Brunton of the University of Illinois, in a statement. Brunton led the study that culminated with the detection of a new threat which may lead to the extinction of humans from Earth.&nbsp;

Around 31 supernovae and their aftermath in deep space were observed by astronomers to reveal that lethal doses of radiation will reach the planet which is located around 160 light-years away. The telescopes on supernova 1979C, SN 1987A, SN 2010jl, and SN 1994I were targeted by the team.&nbsp;

Researchers stated that after years of exposure to lethal X-rays from the supernova's explosion and ultraviolet radiation's impact from a planet’s host star, a huge amount of nitrogen dioxide is produced which leads to brown haze in the atmosphere.

The Chandra X-ray Observatory as well as other telescopes were used by astronomers to identify the phase when the X-rays which are generated by the explosion of stars can actually affect life on planets which are 100 light-years away, including Earth. According to a new study, exploded stars have become more dangerous for the planets compared to the threat they carried with them before. The scientists identified the threat in the blast wave which is generated from the explosion of stars that produce the X-rays in large amounts which reaches planets like Earth in months or years after the explosion occurs and are likely to last for decades. "Such intense exposure may trigger an extinction event on the planet," said the astronomers in a press release. ALSO READ | Dramatic exit! James Webb captures image of cataclysmic star explosion “If a torrent of X-rays sweeps over a nearby planet, the radiation would severely alter the planet's atmospheric chemistry. For an Earth-like planet, this process could wipe out a significant portion of ozone, which ultimately protects life from the dangerous ultraviolet radiation of its host star,” said Ian Brunton of the University of Illinois, in a statement. Brunton led the study that culminated with the detection of a new threat which may lead to the extinction of humans from Earth. Around 31 supernovae and their aftermath in deep space were observed by astronomers to reveal that lethal doses of radiation will reach the planet which is located around 160 light-years away. The telescopes on supernova 1979C, SN 1987A, SN 2010jl, and SN 1994I were targeted by the team. Researchers stated that after years of exposure to lethal X-rays from the supernova's explosion and ultraviolet radiation's impact from a planet’s host star, a huge amount of nitrogen dioxide is produced which leads to brown haze in the atmosphere. A doomsday in offing? Astronomers detect new threat to life on Earth which may lead to extinction-level event

Astronomers have discovered repeating radio signals from an Earth-like exoplanet as well as from the star that it is orbiting situated at a distance of 12 light-years from Earth, which they believe hints at the existence of life on the exoplanet.

As per the astronomers, the radio signals suggest that the Earth-sized exoplanet may have an atmosphere and a magnetic field.

Along with pointing needles of the compass in the north direction, the magnetic field of the Earth deflects high energy plasma and particles, regularly blasted out of the sun, and helps preserve its atmosphere and sustain life on the Earth.

Hence, the astronomers indicated that the possibility of the existence of a magnetic field on the Earth-like exoplanet, called YZ Ceti b, probably hints at the habitability of life on that planet. &nbsp;&nbsp;

Astronomers Jackie Villadsen and Sebastian Pineda from Bucknell University (US) and University of Colorado (US), respectively, detected a repetitive radio signal emanating from star YZ Ceti with the use of Karl GJansky Very Large Array, which is a radio telescope operated by the National Radio Astronomy Observatory of US National Science Foundation, PTI reported.&nbsp; &nbsp;

The findings of astronomers have been published in the journal Nature Astronomy. "Whether a planet survives with an atmosphere or not can depend on whether the planet has a strong magnetic field or not," Pineda explained.&nbsp;

The radio signal was first isolated by Villadsen while she poured over data at her home on a weekend. "We saw the initial burst and it looked beautiful," Pineda said.&nbsp;

"When we saw it again, it was very indicative that, OK, maybe we really have something here,” he added. The interactions between the planet’s magnetic field and the star it orbits have led to the rise of the stellar radio waves detected by astronomers, they detected.&nbsp;

Radio signals from alien planet hint at existence of life, astronomers say

Though it is beyond our normal perception of time, Earth took millions and millions of years to develop life. It went through hardships before becoming the globe-spanning phenomenon it is now. One such phase came during the Cryogenian period that lasted from 720 million to 635 million years ago. During this time, Earth was a frozen sphere which may have looked like a shimmering snowball from space. Frozen conditions create difficulties in the development of a thriving life but life found a way nonetheless.

A new study has thrown light on how life was able to survive in spite of difficult conditions.

This period is also called "Snowball Earth"

Scientists found fossilised seaweed that was unearthed in black shale in China's Hubei province. Based on their observations scientists think that habitable marine environments were more widespread on "Snowball Earth"&nbsp;than previously thought.

The findings support the idea that it was more of a "Slushball Earth" where the earliest forms of complex life - basic multicellular organisms - endured even at mid-latitudes previously thought to have been frozen solid.

The fossils date from the second of the two times during the Cryogenian Period when massive ice sheets stretched from the poles toward the equator. This interval, called the Marinoan Ice Age, lasted from about 651 million to 635 million years ago.

"The key finding of this study is that open-water - ice-free - conditions existed in mid-latitude oceanic regions during the waning stage of the Marinoan Ice Age," said China University of Geosciences geobiologist Huyue Song, lead author of the research published in the journal Nature Communications.

"Our study shows that, at least near the end of the Marinoan 'Snowball Earth' event, habitable areas extended to mid-latitude oceans, much larger than previously thought. Previous research argued that such habitable areas, at best, only existed in tropical oceans. More extensive areas of habitable oceans better explain where and how complex organisms such as multicellular seaweed survived," Song added.

The findings demonstrate that the world's oceans were not completely frozen and that habitable refuges existed where multicellular eukaryotic organisms - the domain of life including plants, animals, fungi and certain mostly single-celled organisms called protists - could survive, Song said.

Chad: 400 rebels imprisoned for life after death of ruler

A recent study was conducted by astronomers from the University of California, Irvine, in which they suggested the possibility of aliens hiding in special 'terminator zones' on distant exoplanets, where the temperature is not too hot or cold.

Various exoplanets, which are outside our solar system, remain tidally locked and hence, one side always continues to face the star around which they orbit and the other side remains permanently in darkness.

The astronomers, in their study, found that there is a band around these planets in which there is a possibility that they are harbouring liquid water which is the main ingredient for life.

This band is called the 'terminator zone' where the terminator acts as the dividing line between the day side and night side of the exoplanet.

The scientists said that the water is likely to remain frozen on the cold night side and is likely to evaporate due to heat on the light dayside.

“The dayside can be scorching hot, well beyond habitability, and the night side is going to be freezing, potentially covered in ice. You could have large glaciers at the night side. You want a planet that's in the sweet spot of just the right temperature for having liquid water,” said lead author, Dr Ana Lobo.

“We are trying to draw attention to more water-limited planets, which despite not having widespread oceans, could have lakes or other smaller bodies of liquid water, and these climates could actually be very promising,” she added.

Lobo added that one of the major findings was understanding what kind of terminator zone can retain liquid water on the planet. The team discovered that if water is mostly covering the planet then the water facing the star is most likely to evaporate and the entire planet will be covered in a thick layer of vapour. However, this effect shouldn't take place if there's land.

“Ana has shown if there’s a lot of land on the planet, the scenario we call ‘terminator habitability’ can exist a lot more easily,” said Aomawa Shields, UCI associate professor of physics &amp; astronomy.

“These new and exotic habitability states our team is uncovering are no longer the stuff of science fiction — Ana has done the work to show that such states can be climatically stable,” Shields added.

Identifying terminator zones as a potential place for harbouring life also means that astronomers are required to adjust the way exoplanet climates are being studied for finding signs of life because there is a chance of biosignatures life creates being present in few parts of the atmosphere of the planet.

Pat Schroeder, a Democratic presidential candidate, a Colorado congresswoman and a long-term Central Florida citizen, passed away on Monday, March 13, 82. According to former Orange County Mayor Linda Chapin, Schroder suffered a stroke in the Osceola County community of Celebration. Later, she was in hospice care at her home. Susannah Randolph, a Democratic operative and congressional candidate, called Patricia Schroeder a 'beacon.' She said, "When I was growing up in the '80s, she was my bedtime story. She was the woman I grew up understanding was the one fighting for all of us." Pat Schroeder represented the Denver area in Congress for 24 years. She moved to Celebration in 2008 and retired from her post-political job as president and CEO of the Association of American Publishers. Pat Schroeder was a prime member of the Central Florida political community. She took younger Democrats under her wing and advised local officials. Here's a deeper look into the life of Patricia Schroeder. Pat Schroeder: Books Pat Schroeder has written two books and multiple written materials in her lifetime. She wrote '24 Years of House Work and the Place Is Still a Mess.' She described her career, life, and details about her victory in the 1972 elections. Pat Schroeder combined her family and politics and narrated her challenge of 'infiltrating the guy gulag of Congress.' Pat Schroeder has also co-authored the book 'Champion of the Great American Family.' She again got candid with the readers about her family needs and other issues, like childcare, birth control, abortion, parental leave, health care, and housing. Apart from the two books, Pat Schroeder also contributed a piece to the 2003 anthology Sisterhood Is Forever: The Women's Anthology for a New Millennium, edited by Robin Morgan. She wrote 'Running for Our Lives: Electoral Politics.' Pat Schroeder: Early Years Patricia Nell Scott, later known as Pat Schroeder, was born in Portland, Oregon, on July 30, 1940. She earned her pilot's license when she was fifteen. Pat Schroeder graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in 1958. Later, she majored in history at the University of Minnesota. Search for extraterrestrial life is a fascinating endevour. While popular image of aliens has them having tentacles and big eyes etc, even microbes on another planet can be called aliens. While our search for aliens has us focussing our lenses towards distant reaches of space, we are keen on finding proof in our Solar System as well. Mars and Venus, our neighbours are among prime candidates in this regard.

But now, Cambridege University researchers have said that unusal behaviour of Sulphur in the atmosphere of Venus can't beb explained by 'aerial' form of extra-terrestrial life. There has been a speculation for decades that Veuns harbours microbial life among its Sulphurous clouds.&nbsp;

Any life form in sufficient abundance is expected to leave chemical fingerprints on a planet's atmosphere as it consumes food and expels waste. However, the Cambridge researchers found no evidence of these fingerprints on Venus.

Even if Venus is devoid of life, the researchers say their results, reported in the journal Nature Communications, could be useful for studying the atmospheres of similar planets throughout the galaxy, and the eventual detection of life outside our Solar System.

"We've spent the past two years trying to explain the weird sulphur chemistry we see in the clouds of Venus," said co-author Dr Paul Rimmer from Cambridge's Department of Earth Sciences. "Life is pretty good at weird chemistry, so we've been studying whether there's a way to make life a potential explanation for what we see."

To arrive at their conclusion, researchers used atmospheric and biochemical models to study chemical reactions that are expected to occur on Venus.

"We looked at the sulphur-based 'food' available in the Venusian atmosphere -- it's not anything you or I would want to eat, but it is the main available energy source," said Sean Jordan from Cambridge's Institute of Astronomy, the paper's first author. "If that food is being consumed by life, we should see evidence of that through specific chemicals being lost and gained in the atmosphere."

"If life is present, it must be affecting the atmospheric chemistry," said co-author Dr Oliver Shorttle from Cambridge's Department of Earth Sciences and Institute of Astronomy. "Could life be the reason that SO2 levels on Venus get reduced so much?"

"We wanted life to be a potential explanation, but when we ran the models, it isn't a viable solution. But if life isn't responsible for what we see on Venus, it's still a problem to be solved -- there's lots of strange chemistry to follow up on," said Sean Jordan

Is there life on Venus? Here's what Cambridge University researchers say

Tiny remnants of microorganisms were found trapped inside salt crystals from Central Australia, dating back to 830 million years. And there’s a slim chance that some of the microbes might still be alive.&nbsp;

A team of geologists discovered the single-celled organisms inside tiny fluid pockets in halite, or salt, from a formation of sedimentary rocks.

The researchers were unable to determine the precise species of these microorganisms, but Live Science reported quoting the researchers that it looks a lot like Dunaliella, a very common salt-loving algae found in both ancient and modern salty environments.

The organisms are tiny, ranging from half a micron to 5 microns in diameter—which is smaller than human hair.

The discovery is touted to be significant as it has implications for the search for ancient life in both terrestrial and extra-terrestrial chemical sedimentary rocks, especially on Mars where large salt deposits have been identified as evidence of ancient, large-scale liquid water reservoirs.

According to the scientists, the microorganisms lived nearly 1 billion years ago in what was either a shallow, salty marine environment or a shallow, salty lake.

The researchers discovered this ancient life by peering into the salt crystals using light microscopy, meaning they didn’t disturb the fluid pockets.

But it begs the question of how these microorganisms managed to stay alive for billions of years.

Explaining the mystery, the study’s co-author Sara Schreder-Gomes, who conducted the research while at West Virginia University, said these salt-loving microorganisms are survivors, capable of going dormant or otherwise altering their metabolisms to stay alive during times when the water around them dries up.

“The findings could be used to search for ancient aliens,” she said.

The study, which was published in the journal Nature Communications, included the examination of meteorites which were found in the United States, Australia and Canada. It was found the meteorites contained three out of five chemical components needed in the formation of DNA. The other two components were also detected after the researchers adjusted the system of analysis.

The meteorites examined in the study were from three different sources – one from the US state of Kentucky in 1950, one from the Tagish Lake in Canada in 2000 and the third one from Victoria in Australia in 1969. All of them were carbonaceous chondrites – a carbon-rich rocky material.

According to Yasuhiro Oba, the method used in the experiment did not include strong acids in order to extract the components from the meteorites. As a result, the study further bolsters the theory that meteorites played a major role in the development of the first living organisms in the world.
