Bernie Sanders calls for capital gains tax reform to address wealth disparity

Donald Trump has blamed his political rivals US President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for the "senseless deaths" of six hostages whose bodies were found in a Hamas tunnel in Rafah on Sunday (Sep 1). The Republican presidential candidate in a post on his social media channel Truth Social said he grieved the death of the hostages, which "horrifically" included "a wonderful American Citizen, Hersh Goldberg-Polin," who was "murdered by Hamas." Comrade Harris, Crooked Joe The former US president attributed the deaths of the hostages to a "complete lack of American Strength and Leadership." He also said that the failings of "Comrade Kamala Harris and Crooked Joe Biden," was the reason the hostages were killed. "They have blood on their hands!" He claimed that this was "because they only care about Weaponising the Department of Justice against their Political Opponent," an apparent reference to his own legal battles. "Just like the Debacle of the Afghanistan Withdrawal that claimed 13 American lives, Kamala and Biden’s judgment has not only put lives at risk but is directly responsible for unnecessary deaths that should have never happened," he said, slamming the Democrat leaders. × Trump further claimed that if he was president "this terror would have never happened," and promised that it would stop "the day I am back in the Oval Office." 'Blood on their hands': Donald Trump blames 'crooked' Biden, 'comrade' Harris for Gaza hostage killings

A new poll from Fairleigh Dickinson University discloses that 1 in 7 voters in the US have put money into crypto, and these crypto investors are more inclined to vote for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump than Kamala Harris.

The survey canvassed a national list of over 800 registered voters from August 17 to 20. Participants were asked if they had ever invested in crypto or non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and if they’ve ever traded stocks, options, or crypto on Robinhood or E*Trade.

As per the survey, crypto holders are 50 per cent more inclined to back Trump, while just 38 per cent are likely to cast their vote for Harris.

“Trump has been reaching out to the crypto community, and it seems to have paid off,” Dan Cassino, the executive director of the poll at FDU, said.

“It might be easy to dismiss them as insignificant, but I don’t think people realise exactly how widespread crypto ownership is,” he added.

Crypto owners now represent 50 million Americans, making them a crucial segment of the electorate. Candidates are mindful of their increasing political influence, with Trump wooing crypto voters at a recent Bitcoin conference in Nashville, Tennessee. On stage, Trump vowed to create a strategic bitcoin reserve and free Ross Ulbricht, who is currently imprisoned for his role as the founder of the drug marketplace Silk Road.

However, non-crypto holders surveyed by FDU strongly favour Harris. These respondents show 53 per cent support for Harris compared to only 41 per cent for Trump, showing a 12-point lead for Harris.

“The ideology underlying crypto is based on distrust of existing power structures, and that makes it a reasonable fit for Trump,” said Cassino about the results.

“The fact that crypto owners aren’t conservatives or liberals or MAGA voters means that they’re up for grabs, and in an election that’s expected to be close, they’re too big a group to ignore.”

The data also showed that Republicans scored higher (18 per cent) than Democrats (11 per cent) in terms of their crypto ownership.

Harris said her nieces were asking for more bacon when the phone rang.

"The phone rang and it was Joe Biden and he told me what he had decided to do and I asked him, ‘Are you sure?’ And he said ‘yes’ and that’s how I learned about it."

Kamala Harris reveals what she was doing when Joe Biden ended his presidential run and called her

In her first interview since being nominated as the presidential candidate for the Democratic party, Kamala Harris, alongside her VP pick, Tim Walz, reiterated that she would not change Biden's policy on arms for Israel.

Harris said she remains "unequivocal and unwavering” in her “commitment to Israel’s defence and its ability to defend itself” while adding: "That's not gonna change."

She says “far too many innocent Palestinians have been killed”, and that “we have got to get a deal done”.

"This war must end, and we must get a deal that is about getting the hostages out."

On Trump

Asked about Donald Trump questioning her racial identity, Harris shrugged it off saying it was part of the "same old tired playbook" and urged the CNN interviewer to move to the next segment.

Notably, it was last month that Trump questioned Harris' race during a panel hosted by the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ).

“She was always of Indian heritage, and she was only promoting Indian heritage. I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black," said Trump.

Harris' stance on various policies

Quizzed what she would do on her first day in the office, if elected, Harris did not list any specific steps, like signing executive actions or orders.

"Day one, it’s going to be about one, implementing my plan for what I call an opportunity economy. I’ve already laid out a number of proposals in that regard, which include what we’re going to do to bring down the cost of everyday goods, what we’re going to do to invest in America’s small businesses, what we’re going to do to invest in families.”

As for her reversals on fracking and decriminalising illegal border crossings, Harris said her 'values' had not changed.

“I think the most important and most significant aspect of my policy perspective and decisions is my values have not changed,” she said.

“You mentioned the Green New Deal. I have always believed – and I have worked on it – that the climate crisis is real, that it is an urgent matter to which we should apply metrics that include holding ourselves to deadlines around time.”
