Trump vs Harris: Kamala Harris' expressions, Donald Trump's comments ignite meme fest on social media

<p>US former president Donald Trump on Tuesday (Sep 11) avoided directly addressing a question on whether he wanted Ukraine to win the war against Russia. While speaking at the presidential debate alongside Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, Trump didn’t respond to the question and just said, “I want the war to stop.”</p>

<p>He stressed that people were killed “by the millions” in the war, without mentioning who he thought the aggressor was.</p>

<h2><strong>‘Will negotiate a deal’</strong></h2>

<p>Trump reiterated that he would strike a peace deal in Ukraine even before becoming president, saying the US was “playing with World War Three.”</p>

<p>“I'll get the war with Ukraine and Russia ended. If I'm president-elect, I'll get it done before even becoming president,” Trump said.</p>

<p>He added that there was no threat of war during his term, from 2017 to 2021.</p>

<p>"I know (Russian President Vladimir) Putin very well. He would have never -- and there was no threat of it either, by the way, for four years -- gone into Ukraine and killed millions of people when you add it up...,” he said, blaming the war on the Biden-Harris administration.</p>

<h2><strong>Kamala&nbsp;counters, says&nbsp;Putin would be sitting in Kyiv</strong></h2>

<p>Kamala Harris claimed that had Trump been president, “Putin would be sitting in Kyiv with his eyes on the rest of Europe”.</p>

<p>“Why don’t you tell the 800,000 Polish Americans right here in Pennsylvania how quickly you would give up for the sake of favour and what you think is a friendship with what is known to be a dictator who would eat you for lunch,” Kamala Harris said.</p>

<p>Trump’s remarks on Tuesday refreshed concerns that a Trump 2.0 administration would cut off military and economic aid to Kyiv, leading to a Russian victory.</p>

<p>Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, Trump has been sceptical of the US military aid given to Ukraine.&nbsp;</p>

‘I know Putin...,’ Trump avoids backing Ukraine against Russia during presidential debate

<p>Tesla CEO Elon Musk in an unscrupulous move took a "cheap" shot at pop star Taylor Swift for endorsing Kamala Harris after the US vice president's fierce debate with her Republican rival Donald Trump.</p>

<p>Swift in a post on her official Instagram account said that she would be voting for Harris in the US presidential elections that are set to take place in November this year.</p>

<p>The tech billionaire, in a low blow, took to his social media platform X and said, "Fine Taylor... you win... I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Musk's post was an apparent dig at Swift signing off her social media post, where she backed Harris, as 'Childless Cat Lady'.</p>

<p>It is pertinent to note that "Childless Cat Lady" is a term used by Trump's running mate JD Vance to mock women without children.</p>

<h2><strong>'Creepy and weird'</strong></h2>

<p>The remarks by Musk quickly ignited sharp criticism on social media where netizens called the tech billionaire "creepy man".</p>

<p>"You are such a f**king creep," said one user.</p>

<p>"This sh*t is creepy man," posted another.</p>

<p>"Am I reading this right that you are offering to have a child with Taylor Swift," quipped the third.</p>

<p>Swift, on Tuesday (Sep 10), supporting Harris said, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.”</p>

<p>Swift revealed that after an artificial intelligence of her 'falsely endorsing' Trump's presidential run was posted on social media, she decided to side with Harris.&nbsp;</p>

Tesla CEO Elon Musk in an unscrupulous move took a "cheap" shot at pop star Taylor Swift for endorsing Kamala Harris after the US vice president's fierce debate with her Republican rival Donald Trump. Swift in a post on her official Instagram account said that she would be voting for Harris in the US presidential elections that are set to take place in November this year. The tech billionaire, in a low blow, took to his social media platform X and said, "Fine Taylor... you win... I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life". Fine Taylor … you win … I will give you a child and guard your cats with my life — Elon Musk (@elonmusk) September 11, 2024 × Musk's post was an apparent dig at Swift signing off her social media post, where she backed Harris, as 'Childless Cat Lady'. It is pertinent to note that "Childless Cat Lady" is a term used by Trump's running mate JD Vance to mock women without children. "You are such a f**king creep," said one user. "This sh*t is creepy man," posted another. "Am I reading this right that you are offering to have a child with Taylor Swift," quipped the third. Swift, on Tuesday (Sep 10), supporting Harris said, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election. I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them.” Swift revealed that after an artificial intelligence of her 'falsely endorsing' Trump's presidential run was posted on social media, she decided to side with Harris. US Presidential Debate: Republicans and Democrats react to debate performance

<p>Former US President Donald Trump found himself in hot waters on being questioned about the claims he made regarding Vice President Kamala Harris' race during the fierce debate between the two White House contenders on Tuesday (Sep 10).</p>

<p>Seemingly, in an attempt to water down his previous statements where he raised questions about Kamala Harris' race asking if she was Black, Trump said that he does not care how the US vice president identifies.</p>

<p>“I couldn’t care less, whatever she wants to be is OK with me,” Trump said clarifying that he had read Harris “put out” that she was not Black, “then I read that she was Black.”</p>

<p>Responding to her Republican rival's comments, Harris expressed disappointment stating that it was a "tragedy" to witness a presidential hopeful seeking to divide the nation by inflaming racial tensions.</p>

<p>"I think it's a tragedy that we have someone who wants to be president who has consistently, over the course of his career, attempted to use race to divide the American people," she said.</p>

<h2><strong>What did Trump say?</strong></h2>

<p>In the month of July, the former US president had claimed that Harris was trying to mislead voters by "turning Black".</p>

<p>“I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black, and now she wants to be known as Black. So, I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?” Trump said in a controversial interaction with African American journalists in Chicago.</p>

<p>Dismissing the claims, the Democratic presidential candidate Harris had then said that "the same old show" of "divisiveness and disrespect" was expected from Trump.</p>

<p>"The American people deserve better. We deserve a leader who understands that our differences do not divide us. They are an essential source of our strength," the US vice president said.</p>

<p>Harris, as per news agency AFP, has consistently identified as Black and has even graduated from a historically Black university. A quick search on Google would show you that Kamala's father Donald J. Harris is of Jamaican heritage, while her late mother, Shyamala Gopalan, was a British citizen of Indian heritage.</p>

Taylor Swift endorses Kamala Harris after presidential debate with Donald Trump, takes potshot at JD Vance

<p>Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are set to debate for the first time on Tuesday in what is shaping up to be a close race for the US presidency.</p>

<p>The debate, taking place in Philadelphia, is a key moment for both candidates. Harris has the opportunity to make a lasting impression following criticism of the Biden administration, while Trump can use the platform to reaffirm his position as the election approaches.</p>

<p>After weeks of negotiation regarding the event's details, ABC, which is organising the debate, revealed the final rules agreed upon by both campaigns earlier this week.</p>

<h2><strong>Details of the debate</strong></h2>

<p>Scheduled for September 10, the debate will be held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. It will begin at 9:00 pm local time on Tuesday (0100 GMT on Wednesday) and will be broadcast live. No audience will be present in the venue.</p>

<p>The 90-minute event will be moderated by ABC anchors David Muir and Linsey Davis and will include two commercial breaks.</p>

<h2><strong>Microphone arrangements</strong></h2>

<p>One of the main issues surrounding the debate was whether or not microphones would be muted, a topic that sparked tension between both sides. In a previous debate between Trump and President Biden, microphones were muted, and this time each side accused the other of being fearful over the matter.</p>

<p>ABC has confirmed that each candidate’s microphone will be live only when it is their turn to speak and will be muted when it’s not. Only the moderators will pose questions, and no topics or questions will be shared with the candidates beforehand.</p>

<p>Harris’s team expressed concerns in a letter to ABC, which was obtained by The Washington Post, stating that this arrangement could put her at a disadvantage, as it stops Trump from directly addressing her. "We believe this is why his campaign pushed for muted microphones," the letter read.</p>

<p>There will be no opening statements. Candidates will have two minutes to respond to each question, followed by a two-minute rebuttal from the opposing candidate. An additional minute is available for further clarification or response, based on the debate rules.</p>

<p>Both candidates will end the debate with a two-minute closing statement.</p>

<p>Trump, having won a coin toss, will speak last and selected the left side of the stage, allowing Harris to choose the right side. Both candidates will remain at podiums for the entire debate, with no props or notes allowed. They will each receive a pen, a pad of paper, and a bottle of water.</p>

Muted mics and tense negotiations: What to expect from Trump-Harris debate

US Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will face off in a debate for the first time on Tuesday, each seeking an edge in what has become a neck-and-neck race for White House. The debate is being hosted by America's ABC network in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Watch in for more details!

US Presidential Debate: American voters react ahead of Presidential debate

<p>The stage is set for the first showdown between US Vice President Kamala Harris and ex-president Donald Trump ahead of the November presidential elections. It would be the first interaction between the two leaders, as per media reports.</p>

<p>The debate will be hosted by ABC News and moderated by journalists David Muir and Linsey Davis.</p>

<p>The showdown will offer American voters a glimpse into Democratic and Republican presidential campaigns.</p>

<p>Unlike Harris, this would not be Trump’s first presidential debate this election cycle, as the GOP nominee outclassed President Joe Biden in the previous debate in June, hosted by CNN.</p>

<p>Biden’s poor performance in the debate later culminated in his withdrawal from the race, paving the way for Kamala Harris to take charge of the Democratic presidential campaign. Harris secured the nomination at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), held from August 19 to 22 in Chicago.</p>

<p>Jaime Harrison, the Democratic National Committee chairman, said he was confident Harris would show herself to be more presidential than former President Donald Trump.</p>

<p>The debate is slated to take place at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center at 9 pm ET on Tuesday, September 10 (6:30 am IST on Wednesday). The debate will not have a live audience or live microphones.</p>

<p>Earlier, Harris's campaign said in a statement that the arrangement, agreed upon by Joe Biden, would disadvantage the Democratic side as it would make it impossible for Harris to interfere and fact-check Trump during live conversation. “We suspect this is the primary reason for his campaign's insistence on muted microphones,” the VP said in a letter to the Washington Post.</p>

<h2><strong>Rules of the debate</strong></h2>

<p>Debate rules say that candidates would stand behind the podium, and would be given water, pens, and pads of paper. There won’t be any opening remarks and speakers won’t be given early access to the questions.</p>

<p>Both leaders would be given two minutes to answer each question, two minutes for rebuttal and one additional minute for extra information.</p>

Biden’s poor performance in the debate later culminated in his withdrawal from the race, paving the way for Kamala Harris to take charge of the Democratic presidential campaign. Harris secured the nomination at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), held from August 19 to 22 in Chicago. Jaime Harrison, the Democratic National Committee chairman, said he was confident Harris would show herself to be more presidential than former President Donald Trump. The debate is slated to take place at Philadelphia's National Constitution Center at 9 pm ET on Tuesday, September 10 (6:30 am IST on Wednesday). The debate will not have a live audience or live microphones. Also read: Trump targets Kamala Harris’ height in bizarre post ahead of debate Earlier, Harris's campaign said in a statement that the arrangement, agreed upon by Joe Biden, would disadvantage the Democratic side as it would make it impossible for Harris to interfere and fact-check Trump during live conversation. “We suspect this is the primary reason for his campaign's insistence on muted microphones,” the VP said in a letter to the Washington Post. Rules of the debate Debate rules say that candidates would stand behind the podium, and would be given water, pens, and pads of paper. There won’t be any opening remarks and speakers won’t be given early access to the questions. Both leaders would be given two minutes to answer each question, two minutes for rebuttal and one additional minute for extra information. Amid the endless polls and media speculation, a historian with an almost impeccable track record predicting US election results, has predicted that the Democrat candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris, will win the November elections. The US election 'expert' Allan Lichtman, an American historian, has an almost perfect record predicting once-every-four year's election wins in the country, and this time he says, "Harris will win." Lichtman, as per AFP, has been predicting since 1984 and of nine elections, his prediction has been wrong only once. Also read | Honeymoon period over for Harris? Trump leads among likely voters in fresh poll His only miss was in 2000, when George W. Bush won despite losing the popular vote, due to a controversial Supreme Court decision. How does he predict so accurately? To predict which candidate will grace the White House, Allan Lichtman does not depend on the opinion polls, and instead uses the "13 keys" method. He relies on 13 true-or-false statements about the current administration. For instance, one key considers whether the incumbent party has gained or lost seats in recent midterms. Since the Democrats lost the House in 2022, this key is false, giving a slight edge to Republican challenger Donald Trump. Also read | Trump targets Kamala Harris’ height in bizarre post ahead of debate Lichtman's analysis is anything but straightforward. Some factors, such as Biden stepping down, might benefit Trump, but others favour Harris. For example, major policy achievements like the Biden administration's infrastructure and climate legislation count as positives. The departure of independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and the lack of major scandals also work in Harris's favour. He also acknowledged that significant foreign policy developments, like a major peace deal or hostage release in Gaza, could shift the balance in Harris's favour. "I don't like to speculate, because the devil is in the details, but that could be seen as a big success," he said. Critics don't agree with Lichtman's analysis Critics argue that some of Lichtman's criteria, such as defining a "charismatic" leader, are too subjective. Lichtman, however, says, "We're dealing with human beings. Historians make judgments all the time, and the judgments are very tightly constrained." (With inputs from agencies)
