US Elections: Two Shootings At Kamala Harris' Campaign Office Within One Week, Says Police

<p>US Vice President Kamala Harris has announced &nbsp;that she intends to create tax credits for companies that generate 'good union jobs,' modeled after the historical tax credits for the steel industry in Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh Economic Club heard Harris stress that she would help the middle class by making intelligent investments aimed at revitalising manufacturing.</p>

<p>Harris' proposal is part of a broader strategy designed to strengthen American factories and modernise existing infrastructures, making certain that they remain competitive in a quickly changing economy. She pointed out, "We have to put money into our communities and our workforce to generate stable, high-paying jobs that assist working families."</p>

<p>The Vice President's words encapsulate a growing stress on unionised labor and the important role that jobs in manufacturing play in economic recovery. According to her, unions heavily influence achieving equitable wages and benefits, while insisting that to achieve economic stability and growth, these jobs require vital investment.</p>

<p>Harris touched on the repercussions of tax credits alongside intended investments in technology and infrastructure, which she feels will increase the efficiency of U.S. manufacturing. Her attention to 'good union jobs' is intended to ensure that workers get the required backing to excel in a market undergoing transitions.</p>

<p>The address by Harris occurs at a time when there are persistent talks about worker rights and the roles of unions in the U.S. work environment. Several industries tormented by automation and globalization issues, the administration is focusing on union jobs as a solution to these challenges, developing an assured environment for employees within their roles.</p>

<p>Essentially centered on revitalizing manufacturing, Harris' proposal appears to link with both advocates of labor and community leaders who aspire to improve local economies. As the administration develops, the anticipated effect of these tax credits on job creation and economic development in locales such as Pennsylvania is still under review.</p>

Kamala Harris' Arizona campaign office shot at, days after Trump assassination bid

Singer Janet Jackson, 58, sparked controversy by falsely claiming that Vice President Kamala Harris is not Black and has a white father, echoing rhetoric previously used by Harris’s political opponent, Donald Trump. Jackson's surprising remarks came in response to a question about her thoughts on the U.S. having its first female Black vice president. The statement follows a difficult time for Jackson, as she recently lost her brother Tito, who passed away at the age of 70.

US Elections 2024: Kamala Harris To Outline Her Vision Of Economy This Week: Report

<p>President Volodymyr&nbsp;Zelensky&nbsp;travels to the United States to set out a "victory plan" to his closest ally this week, in an urgent attempt to influence White House policy on&nbsp;Ukraine's&nbsp;war with Russia no matter who wins the US elections in November.</p>

<p>The Ukrainian leader has said he wants to present the plan to President Joe Biden and his two potential successors, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, during the trip, which will see&nbsp;Zelensky&nbsp;addressing the UN General Assembly on Tuesday.</p>

<p>Zelensky&nbsp;has said that if the plan is backed by the West, it will have a broad impact on Moscow, including a psychological one that could help compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war diplomatically.</p>

<p>"The Victory Plan envisages quick and concrete steps by our strategic partners - from now until the end of December,"&nbsp;Zelensky&nbsp;told reporters on Friday.</p>

<p>He added that the plan would act as a "bridge" to a second Ukraine-led summit on peace that Kyiv wants to hold and invite Russia to later this year.</p>

<p>There is no alternative to peace,&nbsp;Zelensky&nbsp;has said, "no freezing of the war or any other manipulations that would simply postpone Russian aggression to another stage".</p>

<p>Yet the two sides remain far apart.</p>

<p>Zelensky&nbsp;wants Ukraine inside NATO and the European Union and Russia driven from all Ukrainian territory, though he says the latter aim can be achieved diplomatically. Putin says peace talks can only begin if Kyiv abandons swathes of eastern and southern Ukraine to Russia and drops its NATO membership plan.</p>

<p>Zelensky's trip comes at a perilous&nbsp;juncture for Ukraine. A Trump victory in the Nov. 5 presidential election could prompt a reset of Washington's policy on Ukraine, which relies heavily on US&nbsp;military and financial support.</p>

<p>During a TV debate, Trump refused to say if he wanted Ukraine to defeat Russia and said he would try to end the war before taking office if he wins. Harris accused Trump of seeking Kyiv's swift and unconditional capitulation.</p>

<p>As the election nears, Kyiv has put on a show of strength, rapidly seizing land in a high-risk Aug. 6 incursion into Russia's Kursk region, touting new weapons including a "drone missile" and ballistic weapon and launching major drone strikes.</p>

<p>One attack caused a massive blast at an ammo dump in Russia's Tver region last Wednesday.</p>

<p>Russia has ramped up drone and missile attacks, taken receipt of Iranian ballistic missiles, according to the West, ordered an increase in the size of its army, moved to change its nuclear doctrine and stepped up its eastern offensive.</p>

<h2><strong>'Biden's decision'&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>US&nbsp;National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has said Biden is eager to discuss&nbsp;Zelensky's "comprehensive strategy for success in this war" against Russia.</p>

<p>Zelensky&nbsp;said his plan consists of a small number of points and that "all these points depend on Biden's decision, not Putin's".</p>

<p>On Friday, the leader said the steps involved establishing&nbsp;Ukraine's&nbsp;place in the world's "security architecture", battlefield decisions including the Kursk operation, bolstering&nbsp;Ukraine's&nbsp;armoury and supporting the economy.</p>

<p>Oleksandr Kovalenko, a Ukrainian military analyst, said&nbsp;Zelensky&nbsp;might press for longer-term assurances of aid into 2025 and seek some kind of declaration of post-Biden continuity in support.</p>

<p>"This will be a very important moment. Perhaps in some ways, in a political and military-political sense, it will be a pivotal moment," he said.</p>

President Volodymyr Zelensky travels to the United States to set out a "victory plan" to his closest ally this week, in an urgent attempt to influence White House policy on Ukraine's war with Russia no matter who wins the US elections in November.

President Volodymyr Zelensky travels to the United States to set out a "victory plan" to his closest ally this week, in an urgent attempt to influence White House policy on Ukraine's war with Russia no matter who wins the US elections in November. The Ukrainian leader has said he wants to present the plan to President Joe Biden and his two potential successors, Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, during the trip, which will see Zelensky addressing the UN General Assembly on Tuesday. Zelensky has said that if the plan is backed by the West, it will have a broad impact on Moscow, including a psychological one that could help compel Russian President Vladimir Putin to end the war diplomatically. "The Victory Plan envisages quick and concrete steps by our strategic partners - from now until the end of December," Zelensky told reporters on Friday. He added that the plan would act as a "bridge" to a second Ukraine-led summit on peace that Kyiv wants to hold and invite Russia to later this year. There is no alternative to peace, Zelensky has said, "no freezing of the war or any other manipulations that would simply postpone Russian aggression to another stage". Yet the two sides remain far apart. Zelensky wants Ukraine inside NATO and the European Union and Russia driven from all Ukrainian territory, though he says the latter aim can be achieved diplomatically. Putin says peace talks can only begin if Kyiv abandons swathes of eastern and southern Ukraine to Russia and drops its NATO membership plan. Zelensky's trip comes at a perilous juncture for Ukraine. A Trump victory in the Nov. 5 presidential election could prompt a reset of Washington's policy on Ukraine, which relies heavily on US military and financial support. During a TV debate, Trump refused to say if he wanted Ukraine to defeat Russia and said he would try to end the war before taking office if he wins. Harris accused Trump of seeking Kyiv's swift and unconditional capitulation. As the election nears, Kyiv has put on a show of strength, rapidly seizing land in a high-risk Aug. 6 incursion into Russia's Kursk region, touting new weapons including a "drone missile" and ballistic weapon and launching major drone strikes. One attack caused a massive blast at an ammo dump in Russia's Tver region last Wednesday. Russia has ramped up drone and missile attacks, taken receipt of Iranian ballistic missiles, according to the West, ordered an increase in the size of its army, moved to change its nuclear doctrine and stepped up its eastern offensive. 'Biden's decision' US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan has said Biden is eager to discuss Zelensky's "comprehensive strategy for success in this war" against Russia. Zelensky said his plan consists of a small number of points and that "all these points depend on Biden's decision, not Putin's". On Friday, the leader said the steps involved establishing Ukraine's place in the world's "security architecture", battlefield decisions including the Kursk operation, bolstering Ukraine's armoury and supporting the economy. Oleksandr Kovalenko, a Ukrainian military analyst, said Zelensky might press for longer-term assurances of aid into 2025 and seek some kind of declaration of post-Biden continuity in support. "This will be a very important moment. Perhaps in some ways, in a political and military-political sense, it will be a pivotal moment," he said. Zelensky is almost certain to repeat his call on Biden to authorise long-range strikes into Russia, a move Moscow has said would make NATO members direct participants in the war and elicit a response. Ukraine wants to strike military installations up to 300 km (186 miles) inside Russia, such as airfields that host attack helicopters and warplanes used to fire glide bombs. But Kyiv would have to hold the territory amid serious manpower challenges against a much larger foe. Meanwhile, Russia has been making progress towards the transport hub of Pokrovsk. Its capture could wreak havoc with Ukrainian logistics and open up new lines of attack. Kovalenko said Russia likely wanted to capture Pokrovsk by the year-end. "That would allow them... to strengthen pressure on the information front to catalyse thoughts of peace negotiations, naturally on their terms," he said. US presidential election: Kamala Harris' fundraising triples Donald Trump's in August

<p>Former US president Donald Trump has rejected the invitation to participate in another TV debate against&nbsp;Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the November election after <em>CNN&nbsp;</em>extended the courtesy to both leaders.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Speaking&nbsp;at a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina on Saturday (Sep 21) Trump said Harris only wanted a rematch because she was losing.</p>

<p>While Trump rejected, Harris accepted the CNN invite readily with her campaign stating that US citizens needed to see the two leaders in action once again.&nbsp;</p>

A report by the news agency Associated Press said that it was not clear whether Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump would attend the dinner. Why is Kamala Harris skipping the dinner? Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner is named for the former New York governor, a Democrat and the first Roman Catholic to be nominated for president by a major party in 1928. He was handily defeated by Herbert Hoover. <p>The move by the Federal Reserve to slash interest rates sparked ripples through the 2024 presidential campaign as Democrat Kamala Harris hailed the action as a boon for middle-class families, but Republican Donald Trump said it was a bit politically motivated.</p>

<p>The vitriolic rhetoric over the Fed cutting its benchmark interest rate by half of a percentage point underscored how the central bank - whose Chair Jerome Powell has pledged not to allow political pressures to influence decision-making - could be swinging momentum of the 2024 presidential race with seven weeks to Election Day.</p>

<p>Two duelling narratives underscored the extent to which the economy and interest rates have fast become a focal point in the race, with both sides looking to seize on the move to their electoral advantage.</p>

<p>Speaking at a campaign stop at a Manhattan bar, Trump framed the cut as a "very unusual number" and bad news for his opponent, whatever the Fed's motivation.</p>

<p>“I guess it shows the economy is very bad, to cut it by that much, assuming they’re not just playing politics,” Trump said. “The economy would be very bad, or they’re playing politics, one or the other, but it was a big cut.”</p>

<p>"Welcome news for Americans who have borne the brunt of high prices," Harris said in a statement. Her words betrayed the extent to which inflation, which has hit US households hard and soured voter perceptions of President Joe Biden's handling of the economy, is one of her top political liabilities.</p>

<p>“I know prices are still too high for many middle-class and working families, and my top priority as President will be to lower the costs of everyday needs like health care, housing, and groceries,” Harris said, looking for an edge over Trump's agenda.</p>

<p>“This is the opposite of what Donald Trump would do as president. While proposing more tax cuts for billionaires and big corporations, his plan would increase costs on families by nearly $4,000 a year by slapping a Trump Tax on goods families rely on, like gas, food and clothing,” she said.</p>

<p>Biden called the move an "important moment" in the battle against inflation. "Inflation and interest rates are falling while the economy remains strong," he said in a statement on X. "The critics said it couldn't happen – but our policies are lowering costs and creating jobs." The president said he'd go further into the move Thursday.</p>
