<p>Although a four off a wide ball and three doubles put the Kiwis on the cusp of completing the highest-successful run-chase in CWCs, Neesham’s runout on the penultimate delivery buried all hopes, as Australia ended up on the winning side.</p>

<p>Commenting on the experience of this thunderbolt game, Neesham said, "Actually, that [2019 final] was the first thing I thought of when I was coming off, that it's going to look very, very similar."<br />

<p>Given how stressful run-chases can be in cricket, Neesham said though he would have loved to help his team win the game over the Aussies, he wasn't stressed about the outcome, having learnt to deal with it thanks to his past experiences.</p>

<p>"You worked for six and a half hours during the day, and it comes down to potentially two deliveries," Neesham said. "And four years ago, we worked for two months, and it came down to one delivery. It's just the nature of the game."</p>

<p>"I can think of one reason that I don't focus on the result as much anymore, but look, I think that's one of the things you learn as you get a little bit older."</p>

<p>Obviously, I'm probably closer towards the back end of my career than I am to the front. So yeah, it doesn't pay to stress too much on the results. I think everyone wants to win, and everyone's desperate to win, especially in world tournaments, but that can't dictate how you want to play the game,” Neesham added.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, New Zealand is third on the points table with four wins from six contested matches.&nbsp;</p>

Ahead of the start of perhaps his final 50-over World Cup, Neesham is ready to bury past demons to give himself and his team a chance to end the CWC trophy drought.</p>

<p>Neesham and Trent Boult, two seasoned campaigners who decided against signing the central contracts, got picked in the final 15 for the World Cup, which gets underway on October 5 in Ahmedabad.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Considering most of the players picked for this year’s edition were around four years ago when New Zealand lost the final in a super over, Neesham said reuniting with the squad with new goals in mind works as a motivation for everyone.</p>

It’s come around pretty quickly, really, with all the events since 2019 in the world.”</p>

<p>“We’ve got that generation from 30 to 35-years-old. We’ve all played a huge amount over the last 10-12 years, and there’s certainly huge motivation from the guys to give it one last, good crack,” Neesham added.</p>

<h2>‘No awkwardness’</h2>

<p>With Trent Boult finally returning to the ODI setup after being included in the XI for the game against England in Southampton on Sunday, he picked three wickets inside the first two overs, reminding everyone of what he can do with the new ball in hand.</p>

<p>Considering he and Neesham got overlooked for the centrally contracted players for the past year, and now with them returning just ahead of the World Cup, Neesham insisted there is no awkwardness among the camp as the focus remains on helping them win the World Cup.</p>

<p>“No one gets judged on those kinds of decisions,” he said. “Myself and Trent have talked a lot about it over the last year or so around trying to stay fit and stay in the picture.</p>

<p>“There’s no lack of familiarity with the group. As Trent said a couple of days ago in England, you slide back into the group as if nothing’s changed,” he added.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, New Zealand will play two more ODIs against England before flying to Bangladesh for three One-Dayers and then to India for the mega event.&nbsp;</p>

'335' - Jimmy Neesham shares cryptic tweet targeting 2022 T20 World Cup after Australia beat NZ

<p>New Zealand all-rounder Jimmy Neesham, who knows a thing or two about heartbreaks on a cricket field, held back his celebrations when his teammates jumped in joy after the tense semifinal win over England in the T20 World Cup.</p>

<p>Neesham had his reasons to not move an inch in the dugout after scoring a momentum changing 27 off 11 balls in the first semifinal.</p>

<p>For someone who was involved in a nerve wracking Super Over finish in the 2019 ODI World Cup final where England controversially won on the boundary count rule, Neesham said he and his teammates have their eyes firmly set on the final against Australia on Sunday.</p>

<p>Both teams are yet to win a T20 World Cup title.</p>

<p>The coronavirus outbreak, which started in the Chinese city of Wuhan, has brought the entire world to a standstill. The deadly contagion has infected more than 20 lakh people while causing over one lakh deaths across the globe.</p>

<p>Asked about the role humour plays in handling difficulties, the Black Caps pacer, who keeps his fans entertained with witty one-liners on his social media accounts, said it is vital when the going gets tough.</p>

<p>"I think it's probably right out there, the most important one. The sport we play and the career I have had, there's plenty of downs and you've got to see the bright, funny side of it otherwise you'll just go into a dark hole," Neesham said on 'Inside my bubble' podcast.</p>

<p>"I'm certainly used to tough situations and this is another one. All things pass eventually and we should keep smiling and laughing and we'll all be in a better place and good to go once we come out the other side," he added.</p>

<p>Last month, New Zealand's ODI away series against Australia was called off after the first match and the visiting team was sent home owing to the fast-spreading virus.</p>

<p>Talking about the chain of events leading to the series being called off, the 29-year-old said he was amazed how quickly the situation changed.</p>

<p>"We were in Sydney for the ODI series and we joked about what was going on at the airport but the amount that it escalated to in the six-seven days was unbelievable.</p>

<p>"We played on Friday and on Saturday we were called for a meeting at two and by three we were on the bus to the airport. It was pretty quick and we were lucky to have reached home," Neesham said.</p>

<p>Before heading back home, the Black Caps played one ODI, which was held without any spectators.</p>

<p>"It was bizarre, totally different. At one point I was at long on and I could hear one security guard talking on his walkie talkie and I could also hear the voice of the other security guard on the other side of the ground. It was very strange," he recalled.</p>

<p>It's been little over nine months since New Zealand lost the ODI World Cup to England and the heartache of that narrow defeat still hasn't subsided, said Neesham.</p>

<p>Neesham scored 13 of the Black Caps' 15 runs in the dramatic tied Super Over at Lord's in July but was helpless at the other end as, with two needed to win off the final ball, Martin Guptill was run out to hand England the title on a boundary count-back.</p>

<p>"I thought it would soften over time but it hasn't. Maybe it will get better over the next few years," he said.</p>
