The JT-60SA reactor is a six-storey-high machine, which is kept in a hangar in Naka north of Tokyo. It comprises a doughnut-shaped "tokamak" vessel set to contain swirling plasma heated up to 200 million degrees Celsius.&nbsp;

JT-60SA is a forerunner for its big brother in France, the under-construction International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER).

JT-60SA and ITER both are to coax hydrogen nuclei inside to fuse into one heavier element, helium, releasing energy in the form of light and heat.&nbsp;

On one side, JT-60SA has started operations, but researchers at ITER are behind schedule and facing major technical problems. The project is over budget. The researchers hope to achieve nuclear fusion technology's holy grail, net energy.&nbsp;

As quoted by the news agency AFP, EU energy commissioner Kadri Simson said the JT-60SA was "the most advanced tokamak in the world", calling the start of operations "a milestone for fusion history".&nbsp;

"Fusion has the potential to become a key component for energy mix in the second half of this century," Simson added.&nbsp;

For just 300 yen ($2), kimono-dressed women will slap a willing customer in the face with their&nbsp;palm, over and over again.

The restaurant is said to have registered brisk business of late, as an increasing number of Japanese men and women, including curious foreigners, want to try the painful experience.

If the customer has any staff specific in mind to turn their cheeks red, then they have to shell out 500 yen ($3.40), local media reported.

Five bodies have been recovered from the wreckage of the US Osprey, a military aircraft, carrying eight individuals that crashed last week (Nov 29) near the Japanese coast, according to an AFP report.&nbsp;

He also added that India’s success in the tech sector had forced other nations to change and reform their strategies. Murai said Japan was now trying to imitate what India did in helping its remote villages and towns achieve access to the internet.

“We are doing what India has done much ahead of time in terms of facilitating small towns and villages with internet&nbsp;access,” he said.

<h2>Internet reach got a boost during the COVID-19 years</h2>

Jun Murai, who is also known as Internet Murai in Japan, said that the three years of COVID-19 saw faster adoption of internet and broadband across the world.

Drawing a parallel, Murai said while only 6 per cent of the global population had access to the internet in the year 2000, today almost 70 per cent of the world’s population is online.

Citing analysts, the report said that Kishida's support has already been declining over other challenges, and a renewed attack on the government's handling of the Olympics is the last thing he needed.

<h2>The secret funds</h2>

On Nov 17,&nbsp;Hiroshi Hase, a former leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party who is now&nbsp;governor of Ishikawa prefecture, said in a speech that he provided gifts to IOC members amid their deliberations over the 2020 Olympics host city.

The report said that Tokyo was up against Turkey's Istanbul and Spain's Madrid when the vote was held in 2013. Hase was the head of the Tokyo committee and said he was given access at that time to&nbsp;discretionary funds,&nbsp;which were also known as secret funds.

Hase added that he arranged for the creation of photo albums, each costing around $1,350,&nbsp;detailed the sporting and political careers of 100 IOC members, and travelled across the world to deliver these gifts to them. The report said that the provision of gifts to IOC members would be a violation of the committee's code of ethics.

Days after this speech, the&nbsp;Ishikawa governor said that his remarks were&nbsp;inappropriate and could cause misunderstanding, and he retracted them.

<h2>Japan’s ‘handsome weeping boys’: Partner in crying</h2>

These weeping men are known as ikemeso danshi, which translates to “handsome weeping boy” in English. But, how does a normal day in business look like for ikemeso danshis? Well, to start with, they are quite professional.

First, they will show sad films to team of group of people in a separate room from their work desks. These films are mostly about cute little pets getting hurt or left alone, or about father-daughter relationships. Once everyone in the room starts weeping or sobbing, the ikemeso danshi will walk around with a large cotton handkerchief and softly wipe the tears from people’s faces. He then diligently refolds the handkerchief for each person to offer them a dry patch.

Companies, who want to hire these weeping men or crying session facilitators, can choose from a selection of handsome men. Some people pursue this as a full-time job while others also do it on a part-time basis.&nbsp;

More and more companies in Japan, specifically in Tokyo have launched similar projects where they rent non-sexual cuddling sessions for their employees. In Japan, rent-a-friend service is already available, where you can rent a person to become your friend for a session or two.

As per Tekai, crying workshops are mainly led by handsome men to bring the image of crying men into the mainstream while using those men to make other people cry. When asked why good-looking people only, Tekai told BBC that he thinks “it's because it's so different to daily life. It's exciting."

"North Korea's repeated launches using ballistic missile technology cannot be tolerated, and its rapid improvement of missile technology cannot be overlooked," Matsuno added.
