Search operations are currently being carried out.&nbsp;

Referring to a team of women players who had arrived from&nbsp;different parts of the country, the top police official said there is no fear prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir.

However,&nbsp;he avoided answering about the number of youth joining militant ranks.&nbsp;

Contrary to his claims, a senior security official had said that the figures were based on the case registered. He added that many parents do not report the matter to the law enforcing agencies due to fear and therefore the actual figures may be even more than this.

Three soldiers and one officer had been killed Saturday in a ceasefire violation blamed on Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir&#39;s Rajouri district.&nbsp;

The officer was identified as Major Prafulla Ambadas Moharkar.

Highest number of Kashmiri youth joined militant groups in 2017: Report

Sparked by the killing of two terrorists in the Shopian encounter, clashes erupted between locals and the security forces in the Jammu and Kashmir district on Tuesday.

A 24-year old woman was killed while eight protestors were injured in the clashes near the encounter site. &nbsp;The woman suffered bullet injuries and was declared dead on arrival at hospital.&nbsp;

The clashes erupted between protesters and forces after a cordon-and-search-operation was launched. &nbsp;As per media reports, the protestors pelted stones at the forces to disrupt their operation against the terrorists.&nbsp;

In return, the armed forces lobbed teargas shells and fired pellets to disperse the protesters, triggering further clashes.

Earlier, two militants, hiding in a residential house, were killed during an overnight encounter. A third terrorist, also hiding in the house, started firing at the forces and managed to escape.

The identities of the militants are being ascertained.

Night temperature at most places in Kashmir division, including Ladakh region, increased on Sunday night, but the mercury continued to fall in Kargil which experienced this winter&#39;s coldest night.

The minimum temperature in Kargil dipped over a degree from minus 13.4 degrees Celsius to minus 14.5 degrees Celsius, an official of the Meteorological Department said.

He said the mercury has been on a downward spiral for the past week in the town which experienced this winter&#39;s coldest night.

The nearby Leh recorded a low of minus 11 degrees Celsius last night over a degree up from the previous night&#39;s minus 12.2 degrees Celsius.

The official said Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius up from the previous night&#39;s minus 3.7 degrees Celsius.

The mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius, a notch up, while Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 2.3 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, the official said.

The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 6 degrees Celsius last night compared to the previous night&#39;s minus 7.5 degrees Celsius.

The arrested person, identified as Tauseef Ahmed Malik, (25), is a resident of Pulwama district, according to the anti-terror investigation agency.

Two mobile phones have also been seized from his possession.

The role of Malik about his association with the terror outfit had surfaced during the interrogation of LeT terrorist Sheikh Abdul Nayeem, who was arrested by the NIA from Aurangabad in November.

Malik came in Nayeem&#39;s contact in March 2017 when the latter had visited Pulwama and stayed with LeT operatives for three months.

Malik was later produced in Pulwama Chief Judicial Magistrate&#39;s court which granted his transit remand for four days.

A girl from Kashmir has left stone-pelting behind her to captain Jammu and Kashmir's women football team. Last year, a picture of Afshan Ashiq pelting stones at local police had gone viral. Afshan's life took a U-turn after she was recognised online as well as in the national media. The twenty-one-year-old now holds a football in her hands and captains a 22-member state women football team. Afshan had also reached out to Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh asking for better infrastructure and support for women in sports in Kashmir. "The only reason for us to have reached out to him was to improve and encourage sports in J&K. The state government is taking many initiatives but central government's support is essential too. We thought if kids talked to him, it would have an impact. It was important to talk about the problems faced by us," Afshan told ANI. "When we told the home minister that Jammu and Kashmir lack sports infrastructure, he immediately called up the Chief Minister (Mehbooba Mufti) and requested her to do the needful to help us," Ashiq, who is from Srinagar, said. "The minister also told us that Rs. 100 crore had already been sanctioned (under the Prime Minister's special package) for the state," the captain of the CM's-XI team told PTI. The investigation has revealed that the terrorist was involved in the murder of sepoy Irfan Dar.

The arrested terrorist along with Hizbul Mujahideen and LeT terrorists&nbsp;was involved in the criminal conspiracy for murdering the sepoy.&nbsp;

The conspiracy&nbsp;was plotted by Hizbul Mujahideen&#39;s Saddam Padder, Bilal Mohand and LeT&#39;s Touseef Ahmad and a newly recruited terrorist along with the arrested accused Muzamil Ahmad Malik.

The bullet-ridden dead body of a 23-year-old Territorial-Army jawan,&nbsp;Irfan Ahmad Dar, was found in a remote village of Jammu and Kashmir on November 25.

A resident of Saazan village,&nbsp;Irfan was&nbsp;posted at Guruz.&nbsp;He was in engineering regiment of the Territorial Army.&nbsp;

The army soldier was on a vacation. He went out of&nbsp;his home on Friday and did not return, reports said.

His body was found at Wuthmulla village located in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir.&nbsp;

1 Soldier, 2 terrorists killed in J&K encounter

Seventy-seven residents of Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) today travelled by the cross-LoC bus to meet their relatives on the two sides of the Line of Control, officials said.

Forty-eight PoK residents arrived here on the cross-LoC bus service via Poonch-Rawalakot in Jammu and Kashmir, a senior official said.

From India, 22 PoK residents returned on the LoC bus, while six freshers from India travelled on the LoC bus to PoK, he said.

The weekly bus service, popularly known as paigam-e-amun or message of peace, resumed on November 6 after remaining suspended for nearly four months owing to heavy Pakistani shelling along the LoC in Poonch district.

Billed as the biggest confidence-building measure, the bus service was started on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad route in the Kashmir Valley in April 2005 and the Poonch-Rawalakot route in the Jammu region on June 20, 2006, to facilitate easier trade and travel between the divided families of Jammu and Kashmir and the PoK.

The trade between the two parts of Kashmir started in October 2008 on a barter system.&nbsp;

We are not given any constitutional rights, so what taxes are they collecting from us?&quot; said Mohammad Khan, an advocate in Gilgit.

Many legal experts believe that the people of Gilgit Baltistan must be granted constitutional rights and then taxes should be imposed on them.

They said there are no taxes in Jammu and Kashmir despite it being part of the constitution. They are being granted subsidies.

&quot;Jammu and Kashmir is part of the Indian constitution, but there are no taxes. They are the citizens of India as per the constitution, but no taxes are imposed on them. They are being given subsidy. Here, in Gilgit, we have no constitutional rights and we have a dummy assembly which has no powers. Pakistan has formed a (Kashmir) Council and has made illiterate people as its members. They can&#39;t even read Urdu, forget about English. We will not allow the imposition of taxes by them. If they continue to stand by their order, we will launch protests against the assembly. We are not ready to accept this,&quot; said Nasir Khan, a lawyer in Gilgit.

The locals made a demand of granting them a royalty of rich mineral resources. The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) which passes through Gilgit Baltistan is also an illegal act by Pakistan and China.

The people of Gilgit Baltistan accuse both Pakistan and China of exploiting their resources and creating an ecological imbalance in the region.

The region, which has been given a step-motherly treatment by Islamabad, has been looted through the hefty taxes levied by the Federal Board of Revenue of Pakistan.

This has evoked widespread resentment against the Pakistani authorities who otherwise have not done anything in the welfare of the people of the region.

Pakistan has consistently maintained its oppressive attitude towards people of the region and has even ignored their basic demands.

Pakistan&#39;s tacit policy has been to ignore the genuine interests of the region and never allow true democracy to thrive in the region.

Media, which has been working in collusion with Islamabad has muffled the issues of locals which has only emboldened Islamabad to further exploit the region through its draconian laws and policies.

Islamabad&#39;s growing apathy towards the region and adoption of high handed measures to suppress reasonable voices of the region is a major concern today.

People of Gilgit-Baltistan have now become increasingly intolerant of the Pakistani occupation and they have intensified their ante against the authorities who have done nothing except plundering the resources.

Hafiz Saeed is a&nbsp;United Nations-designated terrorist who was freed from house arrest last week on an order of Lahore high court.

The US also branded Saeed a terrorist and put a $10 million bounty on Saeed&#39;s head after the 2008 Mumbai terror attack. Musharraf claimed Saeed was not involved in the Mumbai terror attack in 2008 because Saeed &quot;himself denied the charges&quot; of being the attacks&#39; mastermind.

Pervez Musharraf has said that he is banned terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba's (LeT) "biggest supporter" and that he is aware that they "like" him too. In an interview with Pakistan's ARY News, Musharraf said that he is similarly appreciative of LeT co-founder and the man thought to be the mastermind of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks Hafiz Saeed. Musharraf was quoted as saying Saeed "is involved in Kashmir" and that he "supports" that involvement.
