National Conference president Farooq Abdullah on Monday said abrogating Article 370 of the Constitution will pave the way for "freedom" for people of Jammu and Kashmir and asked the BJP to try joining the hearts and not breaking them.

Abdullah's remarks come on the day BJP released its manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls in which the party reiterated its commitment to scrap Article 370, which grants special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

The party also resolved to annul Article 35A of the Constitution, which bars people from outside to own property in Jammu and Kashmir.

"They talk of abrogating Article 370. If you do that, the accession will also not stand. I swear by Allah, I think this is the wish of Almighty, we will get freedom from them," Abdullah, who is contesting the Lok Sabha polls from Srinagar constituency, said at an election rally here.

The former chief minister said there would not be anyone to hoist the national flag in Kashmir if Article 370 is abrogated.

"Let them do it, we will see. I will see who is ready to hoist their flag here. So don't do such things that break our hearts. Try joining the hearts, not breaking them," he said.&nbsp;

Launching a scathing attack on the BJP leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Abdullah said, "When you do an election rally do speak a few words of love for Jammu and Kashmir."

"Yes, we are a Muslim majority state and there is no doubt about that. Try as much as you want but you can't change it. You think by removing Article 35A, you will usurp our rights. Will we take this lying down? We will fight it," he added.

The NC president said the special residency laws were brought in by then Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir, Hari Singh, in 1927 as a safeguard for Dogras so that their numbers were not diluted by influx of population from other parts of India.

"Do you know what is Article 35A? It gives you (people of state) the right to this place. Nobody from outside can buy land here or apply for jobs. This was kept by Maharaja Hari Singh in 1927 so that the population of Dogras does not fall. It was not as much for us as much for them (Dogras). What do they want? Will they bring people from outside and settle them here to dilute our numbers?" he asked.

NC vice president Omar Abdullah used the BJP manifesto to hit out at Governor Satya Pal Malik.

Singh said Congress must make it clear whether it accepts that the country should have two prime ministers.

"Such things can not go on and on. It has to be stopped," he said&nbsp; 
On terrorism, the home minister said a befitting reply would be given to those who take up arms. "If someone takes up arms, we can go to whatever extent required to give them a befitting reply," Singh said.

He said the country is now in the "strong hands" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The home minister said the central government was ready for talks but those who are raising the Kashmir issue were not interested in any dialogue.

Singh said considering the future of the children of Jammu and Kashmir, "we have forgiven 8,000 first time stone pelters but some people continue to instigate the stone pelters".

"These are the biggest criminals," he said.&nbsp;

The home minister said Jammu and Kashmir has not been ruled by "outsiders" but by political parties like NC, PDP or Congress for long.

Singh also highlighted the development works undertaken by the NDA government in Jammu and Kashmir.

No option but to abolish articles 370, 35A if someone talks about separate prime minister for J&K: Rajnath Singh

Traffic restrictions have been issued on Baramulla to Udhampur national highway in order to facilitate unhindered movement of security forces' convoys to eliminate Pulwama like fidayeen terror attacks during the ongoing polls.&nbsp;

As per the notification, the highway would be out of bounds for the civilian traffic on Sundays and Wednesdays till May 31.

The ban on civilian traffic would be effective from Baramulla to Udhampur through Srinagar, Qazigund, Jawahar-Tunnel, Banihal and Ramban, a PTI report said quoting the government notification.

The ban would be in force on the two days from 4 am to 5 pm, it added.

In case of any emergency requiring passage of the civilian vehicle, the police and administrative officials would take appropriate decisions in line with the provisions of movement of civilian traffic during curfews, the notification added.

Of the total complaints, 123 have been disposed of while the rest 59 are being looked into, State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Shalinder Kumar said, adding over 20 employees were also suspended for violating the poll code.&nbsp;

Out of 88 complaints received through C-Vigil and other online modes, 61 were dropped, 22 disposed of and five are under examination, he added.

The actions against electoral malpractice included registration of 6 FIRs, suspension of 24 state government employees, besides seizure of 36 illegal weapons and cash worth Rs 19.68, he said, adding a considerable quantity of liquor too has been seized.

For free and fair conduct of the Lok Sabha elections in the state, the election department has also formed 1,500 mobile and static teams, besides deploying flying squads with video cameras to ensure strict adherence of the poll code.&nbsp;

"We will not overlook a single complaint whether it is against a big leader or a junior one, no one will be spared," said CEO Kumar.

The CEO said citizens can register their complaints on the poll panel's app eVigil for a number of violations, including those against candidates distributing money or liquor to influence voters.

They can also alert the Election Commission if they find a candidate involved in promoting paid news, he said, adding candidates using vehicles or convoys without permission are also breach the poll code.

Transporting voters on the day of polling or campaigning within 200 metres of the polling booth are strictly prohibited under the guidelines, Kumar said.&nbsp;

A CRPF vehicle had suffered slight damage when a Santro car went up in flames after an explosion at Tethar village, 7 kms from Banihal, shortly after a Jammu-bound convoy crossed the Jawahar Tunnel on Saturday.

Owais Amin Rather, a resident of Wail village of Shopian district, was arrested Monday by a joint search party of police and the Army while he was trying to flee towards the Valley aboard a passenger vehicle, Sajad Sarwar, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Banihal had told PTI earlier.

The driver of the private vehicle managed to flee before the fire engulfed the vehicle and turned it into a mangled heap of iron.

The officer said Rather was booked under various sections of Ranbir Penal Code (RPC), including 307 (attempt to murder), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war), 121A (conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section 121) and 124 (sedition), besides under the Explosive Substances Act and the Unlawful Activities Act.

"He was produced before the Judicial Magistrate (first class) Banihal Monday and sent to eight days police remand," Sarwar said.

The officer said he was identified from the description gathered during investigation, including CCTV footage and the bruises which he had suffered to his face and other body parts while jumping out of the vehicle.

Sarwar said the accused confessed to his involvement in the crime.&nbsp;

"The accused crossed the Jawahar Tunnel into this side in pursuit of the target after failing in his attempt in the Valley and finally tried to blow up the vehicle on this side," the Deputy Superintendent-rank level officer said.&nbsp;

An inspection of the charred vehicle and surrounding areas had led to the recovery of an LPG cylinder, jerrycan filled with petrol, gelatin stick, urea and sulphur — material which is used for fabricating Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), police said.

A letter recovered from the scene had identified the driver as Hizbul Mujahideen operative Owais Amin, who mentioned his intention to carry out a February 14 Pulwama type terror attack. The attack had left 40 CRPF personnel dead after a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist drove an explosive-laden vehicle and targeted the security personnel.&nbsp;

Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah told former cricketer Gautam Gambhir Tuesday to "stick to stuff you know".&nbsp;

"Gautam, I never played much cricket because I knew I wasn’t very good at it. You don’t know very much about J&amp;K, it’s history or the role of @jknc_ (Jammu and Kashmir National Conference) in shaping that history yet you insist on displaying that ignorance for all to see," Omar tweeted. &nbsp;

Omar had been replying to a tweet by Gambhir in which the former cricketer had said, "@OmarAbdullah wants a separate PM for J&amp;K &amp; I want to walk on oceans! @OmarAbdullah wants a separate PM for J&amp;K &amp; I want pigs to fly!"&nbsp;

The inspection of the vehicle and surrounding areas led to the recovery of LPG cylinders, a jerrycan filled with petrol, gelatin stick, urea and sulphur -- material which is used for fabricating the Improvised Explosive Devices (IED), police said.

A massive hunt was launched and finally the suspected terrorist was arrested in the early hours of Monday and is being questioned, the sources said.

The sources, however, did not reveal whether the arrest was made from Banihal or somewhere else.

A letter recovered from the scene had identified the driver as a Hizbul Mujahideen operative, who mentioned his intention to carry out a February 14 Pulwama type terror attack which left 40 CRPF personnel dead after a terrorist of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit drove an explosive-laden vehicle and targeted a CRPF convoy.

The forensic experts and a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) visited Banihal and inspected the scene to help in the investigation.

Police said that they were wanted by law for their complicity in a series of terror crimes including the attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities.

"Several terror crime cases were registered against both terrorists," said the police.

Security forces have recovered arms and ammunition including rifles from the encounter site.

Citizens have been requested not to get inside the encounter zone until the area is completely cleared off all explosive materials.

Police and security forces in the morning undertook a search operation and cordoned the area to trace terrorists in Sutsoo Kalan of Nowgam in the outskirts of Srinagar, based on credible inputs.

Meanwhile, the security forces were fired upon by the hidden terrorists. The security forces retaliated in which both the terrorists were killed.

The alleged fratricide took place at around 10 pm when constable Ajit Kumar shot three of his colleagues with his service rifle at the 187th battalion camp in the Battal Ballian area of Udhampur, they said.&nbsp;

The officials said Kumar shot himself after killing his colleagues. They added that Kumar was critical.

Kumar hails from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh and was rushed to a military hospital nearby, they said.

The deceased have been identified as head constables Pokarmal R of Jhunjhunu in Rajasthan, Yogendra Sharma of Delhi, and Umed Singh of Rewari in Haryana.

The shooting, the officials said, was triggered by an altercation.

Senior CRPF and police officials had rushed to the spot, they added.&nbsp;
