Thousands of small dead fish washed ashore on the banks of the Amshan River in Majar-al Kabir in Maysan province in southeast Iraq amid blistering weather conditions.&nbsp;

Linking the wildlife disaster to possible drought conditions in the area, officials on Monday announced that they'd be investigating the matter of the river, which is home to almost nine aquatic species.&nbsp;

Iraq's agricultural ministry said that it is forming a committee to look into the cause of deaths, AFP reported, citing news agency INA.

Amid the deaths, a Maysan province official that oversees its Marshes for the Iraqi environment ministry named Khodr Abbas Salman told AFP that according to the terrain analyses&nbsp;conducted by them, the level of oxygen in the water is zero and is adding to the salinity levels.&nbsp;

Salman said that he too joined the mission of inspecting the deaths of "tonnes" of fish.

He added that samples from both fish and rivers will be analysed to determine if there is any chemical substance present.&nbsp;

Police in France's Avignon city are looking into several posters that depict French President Emmanuel Macron as Nazi leader Adolf Hitler. As many as 30 posters were placed on about&nbsp;120 billboards in Avignon city depicting&nbsp;Macron in a suit and moustache. The caricature posters bore digits "49.3" and greying hair. The numbers pertain to an article&nbsp;of the Constitution that was utilised to pass pension reform legislation in the National Assembly.

The 30 posters were reproductions of a mural of French President Emmanuel Macron painted by a local street artist named Lekto that was put up on an electrical transformer along a major road in Avignon in April.&nbsp;The posters were taken down at the time and now they are seen on prominent billboards close to the town hall, the prefecture, and the railroad station.

In 2022, Letko is alleged to have painted a mural, that has since been removed, which showed Macron as the puppet of the Jewish political consultant Jacques Attali. Authorities regarded it as being anti-Semitic. "How far will they go in the indignity and abjectness? It is high time to sanction in the most severe way possible those who engage in such odious campaigns," tweeted the president of the Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur region, Renaud Muselier.

Special counsel John Durham has issued his final report on the FBI's investigation into links between Donald Trump's campaign and Russia during the 2016 election. The report, which is almost 300 pages long, strongly criticises the FBI and the Justice Department but does not suggest fresh charges or "wholesale changes" in how politically sensitive investigations are handled.

“Based on the review of Crossfire Hurricane and related intelligence activities, we conclude that the (Justice) Department and FBI failed to uphold their important mission of strict fidelity to the law in connection with certain events and activities described in this report,” Durham wrote.

Despite not living up to the expectations of former President Trump and his allies, who expected the report to portray the inquiry as a political witch hunt, the study contains some key insights.

<h2>Durham questions&nbsp;FBI's haste&nbsp;to investigate Trump</h2>

As per&nbsp;the report, the special counsel's office conducted over 480 interviews, analysed over one million documents, and issued 190 grand jury subpoenas. Durham, on the other hand, has reservations about the FBI's decision to begin a comprehensive investigation, accusing the organisation of failing to honour its commitment to rigorous adherence to the law, reported the Associated Press.&nbsp;

He claims that, while a preliminary inquiry was warranted, the FBI failed to take the essential measures, such as questioning pertinent witnesses or utilising established analytical methods.

BREAKING: Durham Report Exposes Russia Hoax Against Trump

In a shocking revelation, the three-year-long investigation led by special counsel John Durham has concluded that the FBI's comprehensive probe into the alleged connections between Donald Trump's campaign and Russia… <a href="https://t.co/vjLd8nsGao">pic.twitter.com/vjLd8nsGao</a>

<h2>No "actual evidence of collusion"</h2>

Durham concludes that federal investigators had no "actual evidence of collusion" between Trump's campaign and Russia before beginning the years-long investigation. This discovery lies at the heart of his critique of the FBI's decision to begin a thorough investigation.

According to the report,&nbsp;if the FBI had taken extra procedures, such as analysing its intelligence databases or using conventional analytical methods, it would have discovered no evidence tying Trump to Russian officials.

<h2>FBI's personnel bias</h2>

The report states that certain investigative staff had a proclivity to initiate an inquiry into Trump. Durham singles out former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and former counter-intelligence division deputy director Peter Strzok as being hostile to Trump, reported CNN.

However, it should be emphasised that a prior assessment by DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz determined that Strzok and Lisa Page, an FBI attorney, did not initiate the probe due to political prejudice.

<h2>Different standards for&nbsp;Clinton and Trump</h2>

As per&nbsp;Durham's assessment, the FBI launched the "Crossfire Hurricane" investigation between Trump and Russia using raw, unanalysed, and uncorroborated intelligence. When there was concern about potential electoral involvement by Hillary Clinton's campaign, the FBI used different requirements.&nbsp;

The report states&nbsp;that the FBI never opened any inquiry or issued any taskings in response to the intelligence it received about a supposed&nbsp;Clinton campaign plan.

The report also criticises the Steele dossier, an explosive document that the FBI used to strengthen its case for probable cause in order to get surveillance warrants against a former Trump campaign aide.

The Steele dossier featured unproven charges about Trump's supposed financial relationships with Russia, rumours of salacious trysts in Moscow, and suspicions that his campaign colluded with the Kremlin in 2016.

Durham claims that the Crossfire Hurricane investigation "did not and could not corroborate any of the substantive allegations" in the infamous Steele dossier, which the FBI used to get a FISA warrant.

Explained | Durham report: Key takeaways from the Trump-Russia investigation

A Washington State middle school is under investigation for organising an objectionable and inappropriate game which some parents say has a sexual theme to it and is harmful to students and can promote unhealthy behaviour.

A video has gone viral on social media where the Desert Hills Middle School's staff members and students can be seen participating in a contest which involved licking marshmallow cream off a transparent plexiglass. The video from the contest was posted on the Wake Up WA State Facebook page.&nbsp;

In the video, it can be seen that staff and students come one by one in pairs, stand on opposite sides of the glass and lick up the four lines of cream off the glass in a haste in an apparent race to win the perplexing and very bizarre contest which some students and parents have termed as “gross” and “highly sexualized.”

After protest lodged by several students and parents, Kennewick School District is now conducting an investigation into the matter.&nbsp;

They are trying to find out the reason behind organising this disgusting event which was held a couple of weeks ago right before spring break.

“This activity does not reflect the high standards we hold for our staff members as outlined in district policy,” Superintendent Traci Pierce said in a letter to the school community last Wednesday, according to Tri-City Herald.

“The content of a video being shared on social media is highly concerning, and the situation is currently being investigated by the district.”

Many parents have displayed disgust and anger over the matter saying that school officials should have been careful in considering the games that are played in schools to ensure that they are appropriate for students.

In the video, some of the people can be seen enjoying the awful contest in mirth while others seem to be absolutely baffled and horrified by the event as they watched the game unfold in utter confusion.

Loud noises can be heard in the video with students reacting to the game. One student can be heard saying “That’s actually so gross."

Another student in the video screamed, “ewww.”

“What the heck,” a student exclaimed.

“If you are just looking at it, not necessarily knowing what’s going on, to me it kind of reminds me of like a bachelorette party game,” a parent April Jordan told KNDU, reported New York Post.&nbsp;

“I don’t really know, how even once you have said it out loud, it seems like a good idea.”

Another parent Megan Sa told Fox News the staff behavior was “highly sexualized.”

“In my opinion, we do not send our children to school to be exposed to highly sexualized behavior by adults,” Sa said adding, “We send them to school to learn and for them to socialize with other people their ages."

“They shouldn’t have to sit in a gym for a school assembly and wonder ‘What is going on?’ Schools should be a safe place for children to go and this despicable display of adult behavior was hard to watch.”

After an investigation, the school chief Pierce said it was “not appropriate activity."&nbsp;“During the activity, some students felt very uncomfortable, and the activity was highly disturbing for some students, parents, families, and community members to watch on video,” she said. “This activity does not have district approval and will never be repeated in the future.”

However, she also stated that the intent behind the game was “innocent and not ill-intended.”

“There is zero evidence to suggest or support that this was in any way ‘grooming’ activity on the part of organizers or participants,” she added. “That being said, the fact that the activity was planned, occurred, and not stopped, shows a lack of sound discernment and good judgment, and the activity is not aligned with district expectations.”

An apology was issued by the school’s principal Casey Grant. “I am committed to the safety of our students and staff and will ensure that all future activities meet the highest professional standards and adhere to district policy,” he said.

A Washington State middle school is under investigation for organising an objectionable and inappropriate game which some parents say has a sexual theme to it and is harmful to students and can promote unhealthy behaviour. A video has gone viral on social media where the Desert Hills Middle School's staff members and students can be seen participating in a contest which involved licking marshmallow cream off a transparent plexiglass. The video from the contest was posted on the Wake Up WA State Facebook page. They are trying to find out the reason behind organising this disgusting event which was held a couple of weeks ago right before spring break. In the video, some of the people can be seen enjoying the awful contest in mirth while others seem to be absolutely baffled and horrified by the event as they watched the game unfold in utter confusion. Loud noises can be heard in the video with students reacting to the game. One student can be heard saying “That’s actually so gross." The Scottish National Party's treasurer was arrested by police on Tuesday as part of an investigation into the finances of the governing pro-independence party that has damaged its image and undermined its new leader.

Police Scotland said a 71-year-old man had been arrested as a suspect in its ongoing inquiry. The party's leader said the arrested man was the SNP treasurer Colin Beattie.

The investigation is looking at what happened to more than 600,000 pounds ($750,000) raised by Scottish independence campaigners in 2017, which was supposed to have been ring-fenced but may have been used for other purposes.

The arrest comes as the SNP, Scotland's dominant political party, faces deepening questions about its governance and finances. Opposition parties said the party was mired in scandal and struggling to govern Scotland.

Scottish police arrest SNP treasurer as part of funding probe

A&nbsp;report by the Belgium-based&nbsp;newspaper Derniere Heure says&nbsp;that Uber has allegedly been increasing the prices for people if their phone battery is low. The media outlet conducted a small study which showed how the pricing for users in Brussels was based on how much battery they had on their phones. The test was conducted after some users claim to have seen varied prices for the same trips, however, the ride-hailing giant has since refuted these claims.&nbsp;

<meta charset="utf-8" />

What did the investigation find?

Two phones, one with 84 per cent battery and the other with 12 per cent, were used for the investigation while requesting a ride from their office in Brussels to Tour and Taxis in the centre. The report shows a notable discrepancy in prices, as the phone which was at 12 per cent was charged 17.56 euros ($19.32), as opposed to the phone with an 84 per cent battery which charged 16.6 euros ($18.26) for the same distance.&nbsp;

What did Uber say about these accusations?

In response, the company in a statement to the Brussels-based newspaper&nbsp;has since denied these claims and said, “Uber does not take into account the phone’s battery level to calculate the price of a trip. The dynamic pricing applied to trips booked via Uber is determined by the existing demand for rides and the supply of drivers who can respond to it.”&nbsp;

It added, “During peak hours, when there are many ride requests and few available drivers in a certain geographical area, this may impact the price of the trip.” Uber also said that the app is not able to measure the battery of a user’s phone.

Not the first time

This is not the first time that the ride-hailing giant has been accused of taking advantage of its users’ battery life. In a 2016 interview with the National Public Radio (NPR), a Washington-based nonprofit media organisation, Uber’s former head of economic research, Keith Chen said that their company had found that users with lower battery levels were more willing to pay for surge pricing, as per Vice.&nbsp;

However, Chen denied that the firm was explicitly hiking pricing for these customers.&nbsp;

Uber accused of charging customers more when their phone battery is low: Report

The Swedish prosecutor, who was carrying the Nord Stream sabotage attack's investigation, said the “clear main scenario” was that there was the involvement of a state-sponsored group, as he expressed his doubt over theories that suggested an independent group's involvement in the pipeline blasts.

Mats Ljungqvist, speaking to Reuters on Thursday, said that although theoretically there is a possibility of a non-state-backed plot, the kind of explosive used in the blasts ruled out a “large portion of actors.”

As per a report by United Nations, the three underwater explosions that destroyed the gas link between Germany, Russia and the Baltic Sea island of Bornholm on September 26, 2022, had the power of several hundred kilograms of explosives.

Traces of explosives found by Swedish investigators on various objects were examined by them but they have not named the type used. According to the estimate of analysts, the blasts were powered by the equivalent of 300-350 kg of Semtex or 400-500 kg of TNT. Semtex is a plastic explosive which is generally used in commercial blasting.

German Institute for International and Security Affairs security specialist Goran Swistek said, “That is a huge amount of explosives and not something you could pilfer from a building site or something that a trader on the black market would have sitting in their garage.”

Dismissing the theories around the Nord Stream pipeline blasts, the prosecutor called all the speculations "politically motivated". “The incident has obviously become an open arena for different influence attempts,” said Ljungqvist.

“These speculations do not have an impact on the ongoing investigation, which is grounded in facts and the information which has emerged from analyses, crime scene investigations and collaboration with authorities in Sweden and other countries,” he added.

Swistek said that the comments of the prosecutor suggested that his scepticism of the usage of a 15-metre yacht for carrying out the sabotage attack was shared by the investigators.

State actor still main suspect behind Nord Stream sabotage, says investigator

Luther Burrell's comments about racist abuse he received during his career were "true on the basis of probability", the Rugby&nbsp;Football&nbsp;Union (RFU) concluded on Tuesday, following an investigation into the former England centre's allegations. In an interview with the Mail on Sunday last year, the 35-year-old, who won 15 caps and played for Leeds, Sale, Northampton Saints and Newcastle, said racism was rife in the sport, detailing comments that were discriminatory but were passed off as "banter".

In the interview, Burrell also highlighted the use of a racial term in a WhatsApp group chat. After the publication of the interview, Newcastle launched an investigation to determine whether any of the incidents occurred during Burrell's time at the club, before asking the RFU to conduct the investigation.

The RFU said it had interviewed 93 Newcastle employees as part of the inquiry. "On balance of probability, the allegations made in the Mail on Sunday article are true but there is insufficient evidence to say whether all the allegations occurred at the club, apart from the WhatsApp message which contained a racist comment," the RFU said in a statement.

"The player was found to be&nbsp;subject to a further two specific incidents of racial abuse...&nbsp;there was support for the allegations in the evidence of at least two other employees of the club. "The player's evidence was found to be reliable and his motivation for making the allegations was his wish to eradicate racist behaviour from rugby union."

'ABHORRENT'

Burrell said the RFU's findings have given him a "sense of closure". "To call anybody a slave is not funny, so it was abhorrent behaviour," he told the BBC. "I have children and friends with children who love rugby, and I cannot be having them exposed to these micro-aggressions and perceived banter. "This has not been a witch hunt. It's not about retribution. This is about me finally having my voice heard. I've always said that this has ultimately not been about me, this has been about generational change within the sport."

The RFU said Newcastle had co-operated throughout the process, adding that the club would implement changes to policies and procedures including education, training and the establishment of clear whistle-blowing processes. "Luther was very brave to come forward and share his experiences of racism and classism in the game and he has the continued support of the Union," RFU CEO Bill Sweeney said.

In a separate statement, the RFU announced an Inclusion and Diversity Action Plan for the elite game, saying Burrell's revelations had "necessitated a deeper look at these issues and the broader culture within the elite end of the game". &nbsp;

The RFU said that it, along with Premiership Rugby (PRL) and the Rugby Players Association (RPA), had commissioned independent research into experiences of class discrimination and racism in the elite game between September and December.

The governing body said the recommendations of the research were used to "listen to the experiences of those in all elite rugby clubs and to agree an action plan". Measures and goals proposed in the plan include game-wide inclusion and diversity education, active bystander training for clubs and academies as well as the development of greater access to higher levels of the game for under-represented groups.

Cloete Murray, a 50-year-old South African investigator,&nbsp;appointed to look into state corruption allegations was shot dead along with his son by unknown assailants in Johannesburg city on Saturday.&nbsp;

The incident happened when Murray was driving in the city along with his 28-year-old son Thomas. While Thomas succumbed to his injuries on the spot, Murray was taken to the hospital where he passed away, media reported said citing police officials.&nbsp;

Murray was involved in investigation into a company linked to the Gupta brothers amid allegations that they were seeking political favours for their business.&nbsp;

The South African investigator held a significant position as a liquidator for Bosasa company which was found to be involved in numerous government contract scams. In his position as a liquidator, he looked closely into the affairs of a company and helped with recovering assets or report any criminality linked to it.&nbsp;

According to Zondo Commission, which was set up in January 2018 by former president Jacob Zuma to investigate state corruption allegations and fraud in South Africa's public sector, Bosasa was concluded to have been involved in scams pertaining to the government contracts.&nbsp;

The commission said that the company bribed influential politicians and state officials in order to get government contracts during Zuma's nine-year presidency, from 2009 to 2018.

However, at the time, Zuma refuted all the claims of any foul play.&nbsp;

TikTok, the video-sharing application owned by Chinese company ByteDance, is being investigated by the US Department of Justice and FBI over the allegations of its employees spying on journalists, said a law enforcement official on Friday as per media reports.

Justice Department prosecutors are conducting the investigation in the Eastern District of Virginia and in Washington along with the FBI, said the officials.

While speaking to NBC about the news report, a spokesperson of ByteDance said, "We have strongly condemned the actions of the individuals found to have been involved, and they are no longer employed at ByteDance. Our internal investigation is still ongoing, and we will co-operate with any official investigations when brought to us."

Forbes first reported about the investigation on Thursday, stating that the company fired the employees who were implicated in the surveillance after it was confirmed that efforts were being made by them to discover the sources of leaks and business documents to journalists.

An investigation by ByteDance found that employees of the company gained access to the IP addresses as well as other data of the reporters as well of some of their contacts which were connected through their accounts on TikTok, reported Forbes.

Investigation into TikTok is going on at a time when concern over the security threats to the citizens of the United States due to TikTok has increased.

A potential ban has been threatened by the Biden administration on the video-sharing application in the United States if its Chinese owners do not agree to sell their stakes in the company.

A leak of a chemical substance resulted in plume dispersion in New Albany skies in Floyd County, in US state of Indiana on Monday (local time), as per reports by WLKY television station.&nbsp;&nbsp;

According to Kent Barrow, the Floyd County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) Director, the leak was detected Tuesday at a Blue Grass Chemical Specialties facility on Industrial Boulevard.&nbsp;The leak was reported at 10:15 am and now the officials are trying to understand what led to the incident.&nbsp;

Barrow said that a tank containing nitrate solution leaked due to overflow. The solution was used to clean metal.&nbsp;After the leak, a visible yellow plume was released into the air.&nbsp;

However, the officials now claim that the plume has since dissipated, even as it is yet to be ascertained how much of the nitrate solution overflowed and the level of plume released in the air.&nbsp;

Paul McCauley, vice president at Blue Grass Specialties, confirmed that the incident does not pose any threat to the public but cautioned that breathing in the affected area is still not good.&nbsp;

He said that inhaling the plume could lead to&nbsp;respiratory issues.&nbsp;On chemical spill, the New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan said, "I spoke with Blue Grass Chemical Specialties's chemical engineer, and he informed me that the smoke was a form of nitrogen oxide that is not harmful at these quantities."&nbsp;

"There was no explosion or fire at the plant, and the reaction has stopped. Emergency Management crews, after utilising gas monitors on site, have now given the all clear for the area. The yellow smoke has dissipated from the area and affected roadways are open," Gahan added.&nbsp;

This is the first time that a leak of this level has been recorded at&nbsp;the facility as this is not an isolated incident and a leak&nbsp;happened before as well.&nbsp;

The officials asked Mount Tabor Elementary and people nearby the plant to shelter in place. However, it was lifted just after noon. Interstate-265 highway was briefly shut down however has now been reopened.&nbsp;

Canada is launching an investigation on federal as well as provincial level into short-video sharing platform TikTok. The joint investigation has been launched over concerns about the Chinese-owned platform's collection, use and disclosure of personal information of users.

Privacy Commissioner of Canada said in a statement that the federal privacy regulator and provincial regulators in Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia will investigate whether TikTok complies with Canadian privacy laws or not.

They will focus on examining "whether valid and meaningful consent is being obtained for the collection, use and disclosure of personal information," according to the statement.

A spokesperson for TikTok said the privacy and safety of users "is always a top priority" and the probe was an opportunity to "set the record straight" on how the company protects the privacy of Canadians. The spokesperson was quoted by Reuters.

TikTok is being scrutinised by agencies and governments around the world due to concerns that China may misuse the app users' data. China denies such allegations. ByteDance, a Chinese company, owns TikTok.

The European Union's two biggest policy-making institutions have banned TikTok from staff phones, while the U.S. Senate in December passed a bill to bar federal employees from using the app on government-owned devices.

The investigation also adds another potential thorn in Sino-Canadian relations which have been tense for various reasons, including recent accusations by Ottawa that China has tried to influence its elections and that it has been running air and maritime surveillance activities.

An investigation by a UK media outlet has uncovered horrifying stories of dozens of women who are being subjected to sexual abuse at British-owned tea farms in Kenya.&nbsp;This was unearthed during an undercover investigation by BBC News Africa with the help of secret filming.

During the investigation, the&nbsp;local supervisors on tea plantations owned by Unilever and James Finlay &amp; Co pressurised an undercover reporter for sex. Over 70 women on these Kenyan tea farms told the media outlet that they had been sexually abused by their supervisors.

This is even more significant as supplies from these Kenyan farms are sent to UK's most popular brands, including PG Tips, Sainsbury's Red and&nbsp;Lipton.&nbsp;After the contents of the investigation came to light, three managers have been suspended so far.&nbsp;

This is not an isolated incident as Unilever faced similar allegations over a decade ago. At the time, the company launched a "zero tolerance" policy to put an end to these sexual harassment cases.&nbsp;

The company also resorted to various reporting system and other measures. However, a joint investigation by BBC Africa Eye and Panorama has revealed that allegations of sexual harassment were not being acted on. Many women told BBC's Tom Odula that due to the dearth of work, they give in to the sexual demands of their bosses.

An urgent investigation was ordered by the Royal Navy amid claims that broken bolts in the reactor chamber of the Trident nuclear-armed submarine were fixed using glue by workers.&nbsp;As per a report by the Sun, faulty repairs were discovered on HMS Vanguard’s cooling pipes after one of the bolts came out during an inspection.

Originally, the bolt heads came off because of over-tightening. However, instead of replacing the damaged shafts, a quick fix was implemented by the staff at the defence contractor Babcock using glue.

The engineers called it a procedural glitch after the problem was discovered, however, no one mentioned the repair’s botched nature.

“It’s a disgrace. You can’t cut corners with nuclear. Standards are standards. Nuclear standards are never compromised,” stated a navy source.

“The glued bolts held insulation in place on the coolant pipes in the nuclear reactor and were found just as workers were set to fire it up to full power for the first time,” reported the newspaper.

The records of repairs will be trawled by the investigators to find out when the bodged repair took place and who should be held ultimately responsible.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Defence said that a “defect” was found on HMS Vanguard when in dry dock and that it was “promptly reported and fixed”.

Glue used to repair nuclear submarine? Royal Navy orders investigation after reports surface

A former senior FBI agent in New York had been arrested due to his affiliations with a Russian oligarch,&nbsp;ABC News reported on Monday.&nbsp;Charles McGonigal, a special agent in charge of counterintelligence at the FBI's New York Field Office, has been&nbsp;arrested because of his ties with Oleg Deripaska, a Russian billionaire who the US has sanctioned and who was criminally accused last year of breaching those sanctions.

McGonigal left the FBI in 2018. He was detained on Saturday afternoon after arriving at JFK Airport from Sri Lanka, according to the sources.

The Justice Department claims that in 2021, McGonigal and Shestakov, two FBI oligarch investigators, agreed to look into a rival Russian tycoon in exchange for money from Deripaska. In order to conceal the fact that Deripaska was paying McGonigal and Shestakov, it is alleged that they utilised phoney firms to receive money and forged signatures.

Along with allegations of breaking sanctions, both of them are accused of money laundering. The maximum jail time for each of the four offences is 20 years.

"The FBI is committed to the enforcement of economic sanctions designed to protect the United States and our allies, especially against hostile activities of a foreign government and its actors," FBI Assistant Director in Charge Michael Driscoll said in a statement. "Russian oligarchs like Oleg Deripaska perform global malign influence on behalf of the Kremlin and are associated with acts of bribery, extortion, and violence."

"As alleged, Mr. McGonigal and Mr. Shestakov, both US&nbsp;citizens, acted on behalf of Deripaska and fraudulently used a US&nbsp;entity to obscure their activity in violation of US&nbsp;sanctions. After sanctions are imposed, they must be enforced equally against all US&nbsp;citizens in order to be successful. There are no exceptions for anyone, including a former FBI official like Mr. McGonigal,"&nbsp;Driscoll added.&nbsp;

Shestakov, 69, who was based in Morris, Connecticut, is also accused of lying to FBI agents about his connection with Deripaska in November 2021. He faces one count of making false statements in addition to the other accusations.

According to Treasury officials, Deripaska, an aluminum mogul, was one of twenty Russians sanctioned by the Treasury Department in 2018 as retaliation for "the Russian government's continuous and more nefarious operations throughout the globe."

The Truth and Reconciliation Commission of South Korea will probe into the conditions of hundreds of South Korean adoptees living in Europe and the US who claim their origins were fabricated or concealed during the mid- to late-20th century child export frenzy. As discontent&nbsp;over shattered family ties rises and now-adult children demand government attention, Thursday's decision kickstarts&nbsp;what may be dubbed as South Korea's most extensive investigation into overseas adoptions.&nbsp;The largest adoption diaspora in the world is thought to be the adopted South Korean population.

Roughly, 200,000 South Koreans, primarily&nbsp;girls, were adopted abroad in the past 60 years. In the 1970s and 1980s, the majority were sent to live with white parents in the US and Europe.

The commission has decided&nbsp;to look into 34 adoptees who were taken to Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and the US between the 1960s and the early 1990s following a meeting on Tuesday, the BBC reported.&nbsp;&nbsp;The adoptees claim that false documentation and dishonest methods were used to unfairly separate them from their families.

The inquiry will likely take shape over the coming months as the commission considers whether to approve the applications submitted after August. According to commission official Park Young-il, similar cases would likely be combined to expedite the investigations. Numerous complaints allege negligence and a failure to exercise due diligence in the separation&nbsp;of numerous children from their families during lax government oversight, according to the applications, which cite a wide range of grievances.
