<p><strong>News about NASA:</strong> NASA on Monday (April 15) confirmed that an object which crashed through a Florida home's roof was actually a piece of space junk which was equipment discarded at the International Space Station.</p>

<p>On March 8, the cylindrical object that tore through the roof of the home in Naples was eventually taken to the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral to carry out an analysis.</p>

<p>According to the space agency, the object was a metal support used for mounting old batteries on a cargo pallet for disposal.</p>

Indian cop wins over $180,000 on fantasy gaming platform, faces departmental probe

<p>In a breakthrough investigation carried out in May, the scientists discovered that the inner core of the moon is a solid ball and has a density similar to that of iron. With this discovery, the researchers hope to finally settle the long debate about whether the inner heart of the moon is molten or solid which will lead to a more accurate understanding of the history of the moon and also of the solar system.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Our results," said a team headed by astronomer Arthur Briaud of the French National Centre for Scientific Research in France, "question the evolution of the moon's magnetic field thanks to its demonstration of the existence of the inner core and support a global mantle overturn scenario that brings substantial insights on the timeline of the lunar bombardment in the first billion years of the Solar System."</p>

<h2><strong>Denser material falls towards the centre of moon: Study</strong></h2>

<p>The lunar seismic data was collected by the Apollo mission, however, its resolution is too low to determine the state of the inner core. It was known that there is a fluid core but what it encompasses remained a part of the debate. The solid inner core's models and the entirely fluid core work equally well with the data of Apollo.&nbsp;</p>

<p>To understand what is inside the core, data was collected by Briaud and his colleagues from space missions and lunar laser ranging experiments were carried out to compile a profile of different lunar characteristics. These were the degree of its deformation through its gravitational interaction with Earth, the difference in its distance from Earth, and its density.</p>

<p>The scientists then conducted modelling with different core types to figure out which most closely matched the observational data. Several interesting findings were made by the researchers. The researchers figured out that denser material falls towards the centre inside the moon and less dense material rises upwards.</p>

<p>The activity has been proposed as a way of explaining the existence of certain elements in the moon's volcanic regions. The research of the team added another point to the "for" tally of evidence.&nbsp;</p>

It was known that there is a fluid core but what it encompasses remained a part of the debate. The solid inner core's models and the entirely fluid core work equally well with the data of Apollo. To understand what is inside the core, data was collected by Briaud and his colleagues from space missions and lunar laser ranging experiments were carried out to compile a profile of different lunar characteristics. These were the degree of its deformation through its gravitational interaction with Earth, the difference in its distance from Earth, and its density. WATCH | Chandrayaan-3: First-ever recording of Moon-quakes | WION Fineprint The scientists then conducted modelling with different core types to figure out which most closely matched the observational data. Several interesting findings were made by the researchers. The researchers figured out that denser material falls towards the centre inside the moon and less dense material rises upwards. The activity has been proposed as a way of explaining the existence of certain elements in the moon's volcanic regions. The research of the team added another point to the "for" tally of evidence. <p>Russia's first probe to the Moon was launched in almost 50 years on Friday. The mission is aimed at giving fresh impetus to the country's space sector which has been struggling for years and is now facing isolation because of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.<br />
<br />
The Luna-25 probe's launch is the first lunar mission of Moscow since 1976 when the USSR had emerged as a pioneer in the arena of space conquest.<br />
<br />
The rocket, carrying the Luna-25 probe, lifted off from the Vostochny Cosmodrome at 02:10 am Moscow time (2310 GMT Thursday), as per live images broadcast by the Russian space agency Roscosmos. The spacecraft will be reaching the lunar orbit in five days.<br />
<br />
Around three to seven days will be spent by the spacecraft in choosing the right spot before the lunar probe lands in the south pole area.</p>

<p>"For the first time in history, the lunar landing will take place on the lunar south pole. Until now, everyone has been landing in the equatorial zone," said senior Roscosmos official Alexander Blokhin in a recent interview with AFP.<br />
<br />
As per Roscosmos, the lunar probe should land on the Moon around August 21, said a source in the agency, while speaking to AFP.</p>

<p>The Russian space agency stated that the spacecraft, which will stay on the Moon for a year, has been given the task of "taking (samples) and analysing the soil" as well as "conducting long-term scientific research", said the Russian space agency.<br />
<br />
The launch is the new lunar programme's first mission which gets underway at a time when Roscosmos does not have partnerships with the West as the conflict with Ukraine continues to escalate.<br />
<br />
As per Russian space expert Vitali Iegorov, this is the first time a mission has been launched by post-Soviet Russia with the aim to place a device on a celestial body. "The biggest question will be: can it land?" he said, while speaking AFP, emphasising that this mission is "of great importance" for Russia.</p>

Russia's first probe to the Moon was launched in almost 50 years on Friday. The mission is aimed at giving fresh impetus to the country's space sector which has been struggling for years and is now facing isolation because of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Luna-25 probe's launch is the first lunar mission of Moscow since 1976 when the USSR had emerged as a pioneer in the arena of space conquest. The rocket, carrying the Luna-25 probe, lifted off from the Vostochny Cosmodrome at 02:10 am Moscow time (2310 GMT Thursday), as per live images broadcast by the Russian space agency Roscosmos. The spacecraft will be reaching the lunar orbit in five days. Around three to seven days will be spent by the spacecraft in choosing the right spot before the lunar probe lands in the south pole area. Until now, everyone has been landing in the equatorial zone," said senior Roscosmos official Alexander Blokhin in a recent interview with AFP. As per Roscosmos, the lunar probe should land on the Moon around August 21, said a source in the agency, while speaking to AFP. Guided by ambition of our ancestors: Putin on space exploration The Russian space agency stated that the spacecraft, which will stay on the Moon for a year, has been given the task of "taking (samples) and analysing the soil" as well as "conducting long-term scientific research", said the Russian space agency. The launch is the new lunar programme's first mission which gets underway at a time when Roscosmos does not have partnerships with the West as the conflict with Ukraine continues to escalate. As per Russian space expert Vitali Iegorov, this is the first time a mission has been launched by post-Soviet Russia with the aim to place a device on a celestial body. "The biggest question will be: can it land?" he said, while speaking AFP, emphasising that this mission is "of great importance" for Russia. WATCH | China's Tiangong space station faces equipment delay from India President Vladimir Putin has taken the pledge to continue the space programme in Russia despite sanctions, pointing to the mission of the USSR to send the first man into space in 1961. "We are guided by the ambition of our ancestors to move forward, despite difficulties and external attempts to prevent us from doing so," Putin stated at the Vostochny Cosmodrome last year. The Indian space agency, ISRO, tweeted, "Congratulations, Roscosmos on the successful launch of Luna-25. Wonderful to have another meeting point in our space journies. Wishes for Chandrayaan-3 & 🇷🇺Luna-25 missions to achieve their goals." Russia launches first probe to the Moon in almost 50 years

<p>The communications systems of 17 Air Force facilities faced a “critical compromise” after government radio technology worth $90,000 was stolen by a Tennessee-based engineer, as per a search warrant.<br />
<br />
The breach may have also impacted the communications of the FBI, as per the warrant which was accessed by Forbes. A contractor, who used to work with the Arnold Air Force Base in Tullahoma, Tenn, tipped off the government after which the home of the engineer was recently raided.<br />

The 48-year-old engineer, who has not been charged with any crime by the police as of now, was not identified by Forbes. The engineer allegedly had “unauthorised administrator access” to radio communications technology that was being used by the Air Education and Training Command (ATEC), and this was “affecting 17 Department of Defence installations,” as per the report published in Forbes on Saturday (July 29).</p>

<p>The European Union (EU) has initiated an antitrust investigation concerning Microsoft's practice of bundling its collaboration and communication software, Teams, with its popular cloud-based productivity suites for businesses, Office 365 and Microsoft 365.</p>

<p>This investigation comes after rival company Slack lodged a complaint with the EU, alleging that Microsoft was unfairly tying Teams with its productivity suites, thereby restricting competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) for communication and collaboration products.</p>

Gilgo Beach serial killings: Walk-in vault with big iron door found inside Rex Heuermann’s home

<p>Two police officers in Taiwan are under scrutiny as the duo sent a minor girl for a botched sting operation in order to nab Chang, the man who sexually assaulted her, media reports said. This comes as the man was convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old teenage girl. &nbsp;</p>

<p>The girl met the man over an online app. Chang offered the girl NT$5,000 ($159) and threatened the teenager with her nude photos. He warned the girl that if she does not have sex with him, he would release her photos. Stuck in the situation, the girl approached the police. However, little did she know that she will be again pushed into a situation to face her assaulter.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Sting operation&nbsp;</strong></h2>

<p>In order to catch the man, the police asked the girl to carry out a sting operation. Instead of taking care of the safety of the girl, she was put on task to help the cops nab the man.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The undercover operation was carried out in the north-western city of Taoyuan in November 2020. After police asked the girl for being part of the plan, the teenager agreed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The reports said that the girl was promised by the police that her safety will be taken care of. As per the plan, the girl and Chang met at a McDonald's outlet.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The girl failed to follow the instructions given by the police officers by entering into Chang's car "suddenly".&nbsp;Later, the man drove the car just about 300m away. At this point, he forced her to perform oral sex.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The girl did what was told to her as she was fearful of the consequences if she did not concede to the man's demands.&nbsp;</p>

Two police officers in Taiwan are under scrutiny as the duo sent a minor girl for a botched sting operation in order to nab Chang, the man who sexually assaulted her, media reports said. This comes as the man was convicted of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old teenage girl. The girl met the man over an online app. Chang offered the girl NT$5,000 ($159) and threatened the teenager with her nude photos. He warned the girl that if she does not have sex with him, he would release her photos. Stuck in the situation, the girl approached the police. However, little did she know that she will be again pushed into a situation to face her assaulter. Sting operation In order to catch the man, the police asked the girl to carry out a sting operation. Instead of taking care of the safety of the girl, she was put on task to help the cops nab the man. The undercover operation was carried out in the north-western city of Taoyuan in November 2020. After police asked the girl for being part of the plan, the teenager agreed. Also Read | ‘Strategic trust eroded,’ Indian NSA Ajit Doval minces no words in talks with China The reports said that the girl was promised by the police that her safety will be taken care of. As per the plan, the girl and Chang met at a McDonald's outlet. The girl failed to follow the instructions given by the police officers by entering into Chang's car "suddenly". Later, the man drove the car just about 300m away. At this point, he forced her to perform oral sex. The girl did what was told to her as she was fearful of the consequences if she did not concede to the man's demands. Also Read | US banks pressed to rectify ‘inaccurate’ financial statements. Reports of suspicious parcels sent from China to South Korea, Beijing starts investigation

<p>The Nazi concentration camp, which still remains on British soil, will finally be investigated as part of an official government inquiry, revealing details of horrific acts that took place inside it, reported the Observer.<br />
<br />
Almost 80 years after one of the darkest incidents in the history of Britain unfolded, the country will be conducting a review of multiple prisoners who were brutally killed on Alderney, a tiny Channel Islands, by the Nazis.<br />
<br />
It is now known that two of the camps were established by the SS (Schutzstaffel, or Protection Squads) during the second world war, and over the recent years, fresh evidence of the scale of barbarity carried out by the Nazis on the island has emerged.</p>

The announcement was made as the UK makes preparations to take over the chairmanship of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA), which will see the participation of government officials from 35 nations around the world and a network of experts.</p>

<p>IHRA Secretary General Dr Kathrin Meyer, speaking to the Observer, said: “This inquiry is a significant step toward telling this important history. <p>The five individuals who perished aboard the OceanGate submersible were likely aware of the impending implosion just 48 and 71 seconds before it occurred, according to a report&nbsp;in the New York Post.</p>

<p>Spanish engineer and underwater expert José Luis Martín, who spoke to the Post, likened the scenario to a 'horror movie'&nbsp;and offered insights into the final moments of the doomed Titan submersible during its dive to the Titanic shipwreck.</p>

<h2><strong>Electrical fault and loss of thrust</strong></h2>

<p>Martín explained that during the controlled immersion of the Titan, an electrical fault occurred, leaving the craft without thrust.</p>

<p>This loss of thrust, combined with the weight of the passengers and the pilot focused near the front end, disrupted the Titan's longitudinal stability.</p>

<p>The expert believes this deadly malfunction took place at a depth of approximately 5,500 feet.</p>

<h2><strong>Uncontrollable descent</strong></h2>

<p>With the submersible falling headlong towards the seafloor and its control and safety functions damaged, Martín theorised that it could no longer be manoeuvred.</p>

<p>The pilot, OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, was unable to activate the emergency lever to drop weights and resurface.</p>

<p>The shift in position caused the submersible to fall vertically due to the unbalanced weight of the passengers at the porthole.</p>

<p>As the submersible descended to the depths of the ocean, the hull experienced a sudden increase in underwater pressure, leading to a powerful compression of its carbon-fibre&nbsp;structure at a depth of around 9,000 feet.</p>

<p>Martín explained that this rapid contraction created a dissonance with the acrylic material of the viewport, resulting in a micro-fissure and subsequent implosion after the initial free fall.</p>

<h2><strong>Structural issues and potential causes</strong></h2>

<p>Structural issues with the hull, including possible defects and small material imperfections, have been identified as potential causes of the implosion.</p>

<p>Carbon fibre, being prone to defects and exhibiting more fragile behaviour than other materials, could have played a role in the structural failure under immense pressure.</p>

Final moments of horror: Victims of Titan sub implosion realised fate 48-71 seconds before tragic end

<p>A group of armed officers dressed in plain clothes assigned to protect South Africa’s Deputy President Paul Mashatile were seen dragging a man out of his car and stomping on his head until he was motionless. The incident was caught on camera and has since been widely shared online, sparking outrage and drawing attention to the country’s problem with police brutality.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The deputy president’s office on Tuesday (July 4) confirmed that the officers involved were part of the security team protecting Mashatile. A statement by Mashatile’s office said the incident happened in Johannesburg over the weekend and that he “abhors any unnecessary use of force, particularly against unarmed civilians.”</p>

<p><strong>What do we know about the incident?</strong></p>

<p>The video posted on Twitter shows some officers dressed in suits,&nbsp;holding rifles, and dragging a man out of his car. Subsequently, the officers went on to kick and stomp on him till he was lying on his back motionless. They&nbsp;were also seen kicking a man who was holding his arms over his head to protest himself.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The footage shows some seven officers were involved, with at least three of them kicking and stomping on the men while two others were seen holding their rifles. A third man was also seen on the side of the road near the victims but it was not immediately clear if he was beaten or not.&nbsp;<br />

<p>The video also shows a woman briefly stepping out of the vehicle, from which the man had presumably been dragged out, holding her hands above her head during the incident. The officers then proceeded to drive away in two SUVs.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The video of the alleged assault was shot by a person sitting in another car who was not involved and posted it on the microblogging platform.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The country's&nbsp;Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said the department has launched a probe into 3,407 complaints of unlawful assault by police officers in the 2021-2022 financial year. This would amount to nearly 10 complaints per day.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>South Africa’s ‘blue light brigade’</strong></p>

<p>According to reports, officers involved in the beating belonged to South Africa’s infamous “blue light brigade” which has a reputation for using unnecessary force.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The unit’s officers have also previously been criticised for driving down highways at high speed and using force against drivers who do not immediately recognise the small blue lights and sirens of their vehicles and move out of the way, reported the Associated Press.<br />
<br />
The officers of this unit are also tasked with protecting South African politicians and other VIPs.<br />
<br />
<strong>The investigation so far</strong><br />
<br />
Amid public outcry over the incident, IPID which deals with cases of misconduct by police launched an investigation into the alleged assault of the driver of the car and passengers by the officers.&nbsp;</p>

A group of armed officers dressed in plain clothes assigned to protect South Africa’s Deputy President Paul Mashatile were seen dragging a man out of his car and stomping on his head until he was motionless. The incident was caught on camera and has since been widely shared online, sparking outrage and drawing attention to the country’s problem with police brutality. The deputy president’s office on Tuesday (July 4) confirmed that the officers involved were part of the security team protecting Mashatile. A statement by Mashatile’s office said the incident happened in Johannesburg over the weekend and that he “abhors any unnecessary use of force, particularly against unarmed civilians.” What do we know about the incident? The video posted on Twitter shows some officers dressed in suits, holding rifles, and dragging a man out of his car. Subsequently, the officers went on to kick and stomp on him till he was lying on his back motionless. They were also seen kicking a man who was holding his arms over his head to protest himself. The footage shows some seven officers were involved, with at least three of them kicking and stomping on the men while two others were seen holding their rifles. A third man was also seen on the side of the road near the victims but it was not immediately clear if he was beaten or not. TRIGGER WARNING: The visuals may be disturbing to some users. Viewer discretion is advised. WION is not responsible for the content of the video. These are apparently VIP protection cops…happened in JHB. pic.twitter.com/fgSNNpyK7s — Yusuf Abramjee (@Abramjee) July 3, 2023 × The video also shows a woman briefly stepping out of the vehicle, from which the man had presumably been dragged out, holding her hands above her head during the incident. The officers then proceeded to drive away in two SUVs. The video of the alleged assault was shot by a person sitting in another car who was not involved and posted it on the microblogging platform. The country's Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) said the department has launched a probe into 3,407 complaints of unlawful assault by police officers in the 2021-2022 financial year. This would amount to nearly 10 complaints per day. South Africa’s ‘blue light brigade’ According to reports, officers involved in the beating belonged to South Africa’s infamous “blue light brigade” which has a reputation for using unnecessary force. The unit’s officers have also previously been criticised for driving down highways at high speed and using force against drivers who do not immediately recognise the small blue lights and sirens of their vehicles and move out of the way, reported the Associated Press. The officers of this unit are also tasked with protecting South African politicians and other VIPs. The investigation so far Amid public outcry over the incident, IPID which deals with cases of misconduct by police launched an investigation into the alleged assault of the driver of the car and passengers by the officers. In an update, on Tuesday, the South African Police Service (SAPS) said that they have successfully traced the victims of this incident and will take their statements as a part of the probe. “The police officers involved have also been identified and will be subjected to internal processes,” said the national police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe.
