Amid the coronavirus pandemic which has now infected over 600,000 people globally, India's auto sector has offered to help the administration and health workers in tackling the outbreak.

Utility vehicle maker Mahindra &amp; Mahindra has announced plans to manufacture low-cost ventilators in its Maharashtra factory. These in-house "Ambu Bag" ventilators will be manufactured for less than ₹7,500. The "Ambu" is an artificial breathing unit, with a prototype bag valve mask equipped with a self-inflating mechanism to aid breathing among ailing patients.

"We are simultaneously working with an indigenous maker of ICU ventilators. This device is an interim lifesaver and the team estimates it will cost below ₹7,500", Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra tweeted.

M&amp;M is also set to begin manufacturing a face shield based a design pitched by its partner Ford Motor Company based in the United States. This shield is intended for use by health care providers.

Car maker Maruti Suzuki India intends to produce 10,000 ventilators a month. The company said it will work with AgVa Healthcare to rapidly scale up production of life-saving paraphernalia as the demand arises.&nbsp;

"There can be initial difficulties as ventilator manufacturing is a new area for us but we are using all our functions and resources including engineers, designers and supply chains to manufacture them", said RC Bhargava, the Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India.

Krishna Maruti Limited, a joint venture of Maruti Suzuki, would manufacture three-ply masks for supply to the Haryana and Central governments while MSIL's another JV Bharat Seats would make protective clothing required for medical professionals.

South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor has ordered advanced diagnostic testing kits for coronavirus infection from its home country as part of its measures to combat the pandemic. These advanced kits can help serve over 25,000 people.

The doyen of Indian auto sector, Ratan Tata yesterday announced ₹500 crore contribution by Tata Trusts.&nbsp;

The funds will be used for personal protective equipment for the medical personnel, testing kits to increase testing of possible cases, setting up modular treatment facilities for infected patients, and for the knowledge management and training of health workers and the general public.

"In this exceptionally difficult period, I believe that urgent emergency resources need to be deployed to cope with the needs of fighting the COVID 19 crisis, which is one of the toughest challenges the human race will face," Tata Trusts chairman Ratan Tata said in a statement.

The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp has assured its dealers to absorb their unsold BS IV stock. According to estimates, dealers are holding close to 1.5 lakh units of BS-IV stock which remain unsold due to lockdown. With the country accepting BS VI norms from April 1, the dealers won't be able to sell majority of their stock that will lie unsold.

Another two-wheeler major Bajaj Auto has also committed ₹100 crore to assist the administration in containment of the pandemic.

According to his monologue, he was kept in isolation for 14 days, and was given continuous treatment.

“I’m perfectly fine now after 14 days of isolation and treatment. Now I’m back at home. There is no problem, no issue”, he announced.

Echoing the sentiment of health authorities worldwide, he urged the people to not panic and to go visit a nearby doctor if one experiences any symptoms. “If you have any symptoms, please go to the doctor, or go where coronavirus tests are being conducted in your area”, he said.

“We cannot afford to become the next Europe. If developed countries couldn’t tackle it, how will we?”, he said while pleading to the people to extend their support to emergency health workers.

Ringing the possibility of one testing positive, he optimistically said, “If you have any symptoms, please go to the doctor, or go where coronavirus tests are being conducted in your area. If it comes out positive, which I hope it doesn’t, please help the doctors and administration and do what they say.”

Cases of people with the virus evading medical treatment have surfaced in the country recently. Not explicitly referring to those, Kapoor said, “You can’t run away from the only ones capable of helping you”.

The Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Panic, not precaution” formulae seems to have stuck with Kapoor, who said, “Today the treatment is free, if it gets to worse, then you might have to pay a lot of money for the same treatment at private hospitals”.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a telephonic bilateral conversation with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on efforts carried out by both countries against the coronavirus pandemic which has killed over 18,000 people worldwide.

During the conversation, Wang Yi also urged to not describe the coronavirus as "Chinese virus", &nbsp;saying that it could lead to stigmatisation of China and would be "detrimental to the international cooperation."&nbsp;

"Wang Yi said it's not acceptable and detrimental to international cooperation to label the virus and stigmatise China, hope India oppose such a narrow mindset. Dr Jaishankar agreed not to label the virus and the international community should send a strong signal of solidarity," the Chinese envoy to India, Sun Weidong said in a tweet on Tuesday evening.

The coronavirus's which started in Wuhan, China in December 2019, has so far affected people in over 200 countries globally, with over 400,000 infections worldwide. &nbsp;Since the first case emerged from China, the virus has often been referred to as "Chinese virus" or "Wuhan virus" in media.

As many as 30 states/UTs have been placed under complete lockdown even as the number of coronavirus COVID-19 cases have reached 471 across India by Monday evening. The death toll from the highly contagious infection stood at nine.

The Centre has also decided to restrict all domestic transport services—railways, flights and interstate buses—across the country on a massive scale that has never been witnessed by the country.

All domestic flights from midnight on March 24 have been cancelled. However, these restrictions will not apply to cargo flights.

"Airlines have to plan operations to land at their destination before 2359 hours on 24/3/2020," the Ministry said in a statement.

The deadly coronavirus has claimed 16,524 lives and infected 379,080 people globally.

India will be evacuating 400 of its citizens from Iran on March 24 and 28 via Wuhan air. All people slated to be flown back&nbsp;are pilgrims and have been stranded in the West Asian country since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus which has now gripped entire world.

So far, India has evacuated 389 Indians from Iran in four&nbsp;batches. The last batch to fly into India from Iran arrived on March 16. This flight had 53 Indians on-board, out of whom 53 were students, along with a sole teacher.

The first evacuation flight went to Wuhan on January 31. This was followed by two more evacuations, undertaken by India's flagship carrier Air India.&nbsp;More than 700 Indians were brought back to the country over time.

Besides bringing back its own citizens, India has extended a helping hand to neighbouring countries. 48 citizens belonging to ten countries other than India have been evacuated from virus-inflicted countries so far.&nbsp;

People from four South Asian countries - Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives were also evacuated.

India set to evacuate 400 citizens from Iran as coronavirus death toll accelerates

The Indian army has issued a notification to soldiers on Monday that all tasks related to response to COVID-19 should continue without hindrance.

The total number of confirmed Covid-19 cases in India stands at 433, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Seven people have succumbed to the virus till now.

Earlier on March 13, the Army had postponed all recruitment rallies by a month and has asked its personnel to travel only for essential duties in the wake of novel coronavirus outbreak.

So far, coronavirus-infections in India have not risen to a level where it becomes difficult to control the outbreak. However, India stands at a critical point since the number of cases are spiking&nbsp;by the day and any lapses could have serious consequences.&nbsp;

In a number of cases, coronavirus infects patients' lungs and in such times the availability of ventilators is indispensable. And the situation of ventilators in India doesn't look rosy at all.&nbsp;

Medical experts say that India doesn't have a single indigenous ventilator producer. Ventilators are either imported, partially produced or assembled, reports CNBC TV18. And at a time when countries are battling their own coronavirus crisis, to help other countries is not easy.&nbsp;

Dr Dhruva Chaudhry, the president of the Indian Society of Critical Care, believes that roughly around 40,000 active ventilators are deployed in the country, reports Hindustan Times.&nbsp;

“If there is an unreasonable surge, we will definitely have huge problem. We have 20% the number of ICUs South Korea has as a result of chronic underfunding, "Sujatha Rao, former health secretary&nbsp;and director-general, National AIDS Control Organisation said.&nbsp;

However, having enough ventilators is not the only solution to the crisis, according to Dr. Chaudhry.

“It’s a more complex issue than simply buying a machine. You need to train nurses and ensure continuum of care. If you factor in shifts, one unit of ventilators needs at least four nurses and five units need four resident doctors for round-the-clock care. Most government hospitals work at half the strength at any given time,'' Dr Chaudhry said.&nbsp;

Medical experts also fear that COVID-19 reaching rural areas could have major consequences as those regions lack in efficient medical facilities.&nbsp;

However, some developments have raised hopes.&nbsp;

Anand Mahindra, chief of Mahindra Group, said their organisation would "immediately begin work on how manufacturing facilities can make ventilators".&nbsp;

Gujarat's stent maker SMT is eyeing 3D manufacturing of ventilators. &nbsp;&nbsp;

How scarcity of ventilators could be coronavirus's gateway to India

Nepal and Bhutan have pitched in for the COVID-19 emergency fund&nbsp;for South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries which was envisioned by the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kathmandu has announced 10 crore Nepali Rupees for the fund while Bhutan has announced&nbsp;USD 100,000 for it.

Recognising the urgent need for "collective efforts to combat such crisis", Bhutan government said, it "would like to reassure its full support and cooperation to do everything possible in close collaboration with all Member States to overcome the COVID- 19 pandemic".

Pakistan officials announced on Thursday, that they are going to shut &nbsp;Wagha Border, as Coronavirus case in India rose to 341.&nbsp;The Border will remain close for two weeks.&nbsp;
