SII has previously provided vaccines to the government in its campaigns. Till now, the SII has provided over 170 crores (1.7 billion) doses of Covishield to the government.&nbsp;

It is believed that Singh has sought to know how to deliver the doses.&nbsp;

The Indian government is on alert and has asked states and Union Territories to be prepared amid a rise in Covid cases in countries including China and South Korea.

The government has increased its surveillance and is genome sequencing Covid positive cases.

It made random Covid testing mandatory on Saturday for two per cent of travellers arriving on each international flight.

Four terrorists were killed during an encounter on the outskirts of Jammu in India, the police authorities said on Wednesday. The forces intercepted a truck in which the terrorists were travelling and all four of them were killed in retaliatory fire. The police also said that the truck caught fire during the gun battle and they were able to recover arms and ammunition from the vehicle.

"There was unusual movement of a truck in the area. Police stopped the truck at a check post. As security forces started searching the truck, terrorist hiding inside fired at security forces. All the terrorists were killed in retaliatory fire," Mukesh Singh, Additional Director General of police, said.

While the terrorists were all killed, the truck driver was able to escape and the police told reporters that they are conducting search operations in the nearby villages. The ammunition recovered from the truck included seven AK rifles, one M4 carbine, three pistols and other weapons.

One person was detained with the police recovering a coded sheet and letter pad page belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group.

India's external affairs minister Dr S Jaishankar will be on a three-day visit to Cyprus from Thursday, during which he will hold talks with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides as both sides firm up ties on a range of issues from trade to connectivity. This is the first ever visit by an Indian external affairs minister to Cyprus in more than a decade, the last being of Pranab Mukherjee in May 2007.

The visit comes in a year when India, Cyprus mark 60 years of diplomatic ties and will see discussions on "economic cooperation of the two countries, EU-India relations.." and "Turkey's provocative actions against Cyprus" according to a release by Cyprus foreign ministry. Historically, Turkiye and Cyprus relationship remains strained over Ankara's backing of Northern Cyprus as a separate state and other historical issues. Last year, India was quick to support Cyprus after Turkiye was seen violating UNSC resolutions by opening the ghost town of Varosha.

Varosha was once a popular resort town but was abandoned after the 1974 invasion of the Mediterranean island by Turkey. &nbsp;The invasion led to the division of the country into two-- Republic of Cyprus and the northern--Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) recognized only by Ankara

Both the foreign ministers will hold talks on Thursday and sign Memorandum of Understanding on defense and military cooperation and a pact to include Cyprus into the India Headquartered International Solar Alliance. They will also sign a Declaration of Intent to start negotiations on a pact on immigration and mobility. Pact on mobility allows easier movement of people and India has signed many such pact including with Germany earlier this month.

This will be the 3rd meeting between Minister Jaishankar and his counterpart minister Ioannis. Both earlier met on the sidelines of CHOGM 2022 in Kigali, Rwanda in June this year and at the sidelines of 77th UNGA in New York in September. Connectivity will be another key focus even as Cyprus readout pointed that "prospect of India's participation in a regional mechanism with countries of the region" will be discussed. A senior medical officer of Gaya, Bihar&nbsp;confirmed on Monday that samples of four foreigners who tested positive for Covid-19 at the Buddhist pilgrimage site of Gaya were sent for genome sequencing on Sunday. As stated by the official, a second person, a 60-year-old British woman, also tested positive last week before the central government formally requested that states amplify their analysis of positive Covid-19 cases in order to find new coronavirus variants amid a wave that was spiralling out of control in China. As per Gaya civil surgeon Dr Ranjan Kumar Singh, she has returned to her native country.

Four foreigners tested positive on Sunday, three of them from Thailand and one from Myanmar.

The five were asymptomatic when they undertook random testing at the Gaya international airport last week, according to Dr Singh.

“We have isolated two foreigners (from Thailand) at their hotel rooms at Bodh Gaya,” the medical officer said. The administration has not been able to track down the third person from Thailand since the person’s mobile phone number was switched off.

Prior to receiving the test results, the resident of Myanmar departed Gaya for Srinagar through Delhi. As soon as the results of the confirmatory test were received, according to Dr Singh, the airport personnel was made aware of his Covid-19 status.

Following a positive test from a Thai national on December 23, the district administration said that tests were also conducted on around 27 additional travellers in the same travel group. As a result of the contact tracing inquiry, two additional people had positive tests.
