In addition to this, the protestors criticised the Jinping-led government for attacking the Indian military in the Galwan valley few weeks back, which led to a violent face-off.

Amid ongoing border skirmish with China along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), India is likely to receive&nbsp;around six fully-loaded Rafale fighter aircraft by July-end fitted with the long-range Meteor air to air missiles.

The Rafales along with the Meteor missiles which can hit targets at more than 150 km strike range will give an edge to the Indian Air Force over the Chinese Air Force.

"Depending upon the situation and the ongoing training of IAF pilots in France, we may get six Rafales by July-end. The aircraft will be arriving with their full package and will be made operational within few days itself," ANI report said quoting government sources.

The original plan was to get four Rafales including three twin-seater trainer versions for training the pilots here at Ambala Air Force station, which will be the first base of the Rafale fighter jets in India. The second base would be in Hashimara, West Bengal, sources added.

The number of aircraft set to arrive in India may be higher according to requirement and a decision will be taken keeping in mind the training requirements of the pilots already stationed in France, the sources noted.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the Indian Air Force has worked hard to ensure that the ground infrastructure gets ready by the time the planes land here.

The IAF officials said the date of arrival of the planes would be decided by mid-July after taking multiple factors into account.

The first aircraft to be flown in is planned to be piloted by the Commanding Officer of the 17 Golden Arrows` squadron along with a French pilot, they said.

The aircraft on their way from France to India would be refuelled by a French Air Force tanker aircraft in the air before they make a stopover in the Middle East.

"From Middle East to India, there would be one mid-air refuelling done by the Indian IL-78 tanker before they land in India," sources said.

Sources said that the Rafales could have come directly from France to India but a 10-hour flight would be stressful for pilots sitting inside a small cockpit.

The first batch of seven Indian pilots has also finished their training at a French airbase while the second batch would be going to France as soon as the lockdown measures are relaxed in both the countries.

Post lockdown, India received the first consignment of equipment from France when a cargo plane landed in Delhi few weeks ago and more equipment would arrive in the near future.

India on Saturday questioned the intent of Pakistan's proposal on the opening of the Kartarpur corridor saying two-day notice period to open the corridor goes against the bilateral agreement that provides for the seven day notice period.

India on Saturday questioned the intent of Pakistan's proposal on the opening of the Kartarpur corridor saying two-day notice period to open the corridor goes against the bilateral agreement that provides for the seven day notice period. Indian government sources said, " It is to be noted that Pakistan is trying to create a mirage of goodwill by proposing to resume Kartarpur corridor on 29 June at the short notice of 2 days" Explaining "bilateral Agreement provides for information to be shared by India with Pakistan side at least 7 days before the date of travel. This would need India to open up the registration process well in advance." Cross border travel has been temporarily suspended as part of measures to prevent the spread of coronavirus by India. New Delhi will take "further view would be taken in consultation with health authorities and other stakeholders concerned" like the home ministry. Sources also highlighted, "Pakistan has not built the bridge on their side across the flood plains of Ravi river despite having committed to it in the bilateral agreement. With the advent of monsoon, it would need to be evaluated whether pilgrim movement is possible through the corridor in a safe and secure manner." India has also expressed concerns over Pakistan limiting the corridor to Sikh pilgrims while under the agreement it is supposed to be open for all Indian pilgrims and those holding OCI cards. Pakistani Foreign Ministry Shah Mahmood Qureshi in a tweet said, "As places of worship open up across the world, Pakistan prepares to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor for all Sikh pilgrims, conveying to the Indian side our readiness to reopen the corridor on 29 June 2020, the occasion of the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh." Pakistan says it has invited India to work out necessary Standard Operating procedure (SOP) for reopening of the Corridor. The operations at the corridor were suspended in March after India and Pakistan announced countrywide lockdown to deal with COVID crisis. In November 2018, India, Pakistan announced the establishment of a direct border-crossing linking Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, the final resting place of Sikh faith founder Guru Nanak, to Dera Baba Nanak in Punjab's Gurdaspur district. Kartarpur is located in Pakistan's Narowal district across the Ravi river, about four km from Dera Baba Nanak, India. After three meetings between Indian and Pakistani officials in March, July, September of 2019 to decide the modalities the corridor was inaugurated in November 2019 on the occasion of 550th Birth Anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Friday notified its assessment scheme for the pending class 10 and 12 examinations, which have been cancelled in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As per the scheme, results of class 10 and 12 students, who have completed all their exams, will be declared based on their performances in the exams.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/education-news-covid-19-cbse-cancels-class-x-board-exams-class-xii-exams-for-students-who-opt-for-it-308493">Also read|&nbsp;COVID-19: CBSE cancels class X board exams; class XII exams 'for students who opt for it'</a>

"For students who have appeared in the examinations in more than three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in the best three performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted," CBSE Exam Controller Sanyam Bhardwaj explained.

"For students who have appeared in the examinations in only three subjects, the average of the marks obtained in the best two performing subjects will be awarded in the subjects whose examinations have not been conducted," he added.

Taking note of cancellation of a few exams in northeast Delhi in view of the communal violence in the area during the anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act protests in February, the board has decided to take into account internal exams to assess performances.

"There are very few students of class 12, mainly from Delhi, who have appeared in the examinations in only one or two subjects. Their results will be declared based on performances in the appeared subjects and performance in internal, practical or project assessment," Bhardwaj said.

The board will conduct exams for class 12 at a later stage when the situation is conducive and students who are unhappy with their score will have an option to appear for them.

However, the students who opt to sit for those exams, their performances in the exams will be treated as the final score.

Class 10 students will not get a chance to appear for improvement exams and their score as declared by the board will be treated final.

The four-point assessment scheme has been devised following cancellation of the pending exams, which were scheduled from July 1 to 15.

"Results based upon the assessment scheme will be declared by July 15 so candidates can apply and seek admissions in higher educational institutions in India or abroad," Bhardwaj said.

A UNICEF report has revealed that coronavirus lockdown in India has impacted the education of 247 million children enrolled in elementary and secondary education, besides 28 million children in pre-school education in Anganwadi centres.

A UNICEF report has revealed that coronavirus lockdown in India has impacted the education of 247 million children enrolled in elementary and secondary education, besides 28 million children in pre-school education in Anganwadi centres. The report said at least 600 million South Asian children have been threatened by the impact of COVID-19 pandemic. Pointing out the revelations in India`s perspective on education and learning of a child, the UN report said, "In India, school closures have impacted 247 million children enrolled in elementary and secondary education. It has impacted about 28 million children who were attending pre-school education in Anganwadi centres. This is in addition to more than six million girls and boys who were already out of school prior to the COVID-19 crisis." However, the report has highlighted the efforts taken by the central and state government to continue education for children through multiple e-platforms like web portals, mobile apps, TV channels, radio and podcasts to reach children, Diksha platform, Swayam Prabha TV channels, e-Pathshala and the National Repository of Open Educational Resources. Importantly, UNICEF report has indicated that approximately only a quarter of households (24 per cent) in India have access to the internet and there is a large rural-urban and gender divide. A large number of children are likely to miss out on distant learning opportunities, the report said. On issues related to child protection, Child Protection -- `CHILDLINE`, a service of the Ministry of Women and Child Development had received 460,000 calls in 21 days from March 20 to April 10, a 50 per cent increase from their regular call volumes. "Nearly 10,000 of these were intervention cases which required CHILDLINE staff to reach the children in need of support. Of these 30 per cent were related escalation in violence, child sexual abuse, child marriage and child labour," said the report. Dr Yasmin Ali Haque, UNICEF Representative in India said, "The pandemic has exposed the fragility of children, less by the virus itself but much more by the indirect and long-term fallout. Millions of vulnerable children are losing out on their development and learning opportunities and their right to survive. The most vulnerable families need to be protected by social protection schemes that can help them access healthcare, schooling for children, afford nutrition etc. This can only be ensured by a firm commitment from the governments and all stakeholders."The secondary impact of the COVID-19 crisis has aggravated the access to affordable and nutritious food for children." India-Nepal's bittersweet relationship: a historical friendship turning grim

Citing its mission as "discriminatory" since only India's state carrier is allowed, US Transport department has asked Air India to halt the ongoing repatriation under ''Vande Bharat mission'' from the US.

Citing its mission as "discriminatory" since only India's state carrier is allowed, US Transport department has asked Air India to halt the ongoing repatriation under ''Vande Bharat mission'' from the US. The order said, "We are taking this action because the Government of India (GoI) has impaired the operating rights of US carriers and has engaged in discriminatory and restrictive practices with respect to US carrier services to and from India." The order will come into effect 30 days from the service date. The main plea of the US transport authority is that India has "imposed restriction" that prevents US airlines to conduct the flight operations and while noting that Air India is conducting "self-described evacuation", it has "gone beyond true evacuations". India began repatriation flights from US since May 18th and on 19th May, the matter was raised by the US with Air India. In fact, on 26th May, US airline Delta Airlines had requested permission from the Indian Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) to perform repatriation charter services similar to those provided by Air India but hasn't received approval. From June 10th and July 3rd, Air India advertised for 59 repatriation flights between India and the US which the order called as "Air India may be using its passenger repatriation charters as a way of circumventing the GoI-imposed prohibition of all scheduled services" and this creates, "competitive disadvantage for US carriers vis-à-vis Indian carriers". So far, the Indian government hasn't reacted to the development. The US government registered its objections with Indian govt regarding this "competitive imbalance" via its mission on 28th May. India announced the suspension of international flights from 25th March. The US transport department has also called for "close scrutiny" and will give prior approvals on "case by case basis" to Air India passenger charter operations. Before that Air India operated 34 round trips flights per week to the US.

Air India repatriation flights from US to be halted over 'unfair and discriminatory practices'

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will join his Chinese and Russian counterparts at a virtual conference of the Russia-India-China trilateral on Tuesday, against the backdrop of New Delhi's frayed ties with Beijing over the Galwan Valley clashes.

As the June 15 incident triggered fears of fresh confrontation between troops of India and China, Russia is learnt to have reached out to both the countries, urging them to resolve the border row through talks.

People familiar with the matter said India was initially reluctant to join the Russia-India-China trilateral foreign ministers' meeting but agreed to participate in it following a request from Moscow, the host of the conference.

Interestingly, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday left for Russia on a three-day visit to attend a military parade in Moscow on June 24 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of victory of the Russian people in the Second World War.

Officials said he will have a series of meetings with top Russian military brass. A senior Chinese leader is also expected to be in Moscow to attend the parade.

India lost 20 Army personnel in the violent hand-to-hand clashes with Chinese troops in Galwan Valley on June 15, in the biggest ever confrontation between the two sides after a gap of 45 years.

In a telephonic conversation with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi June 17, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar called the clashes a "premeditated" action by Chinese PLA and said they will have a "serious impact" on the bilateral relationship.

Spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs Anurag Srivastava on Thursday confirmed Jaishankar's participation at the RIC meeting.

He said the meeting will deliberate on the coronavirus pandemic as well as issues relating to challenges to the global security and financial stability.

It is unlikely that the border standoff between India and China will figure in the meeting as bilateral issues are usually not discussed under the trilateral format, sources said, citing convention.

"It will be a good opportunity for all the three countries to come together and discuss regional issues in order to synchronise our views to contribute to support regional stability," a senior diplomat told PTI last week on the condition of anonymity.

Russia has already said that India and China should resolve the border dispute through talks and that a “constructive” relationship between the two countries was important for regional stability.

The three foreign ministers are also expected to deliberate extensively on the evolving political situation in Afghanistan after the US inked a peace deal with the Taliban in February.

The deal provided for the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, effectively drawing the curtain on Washington's 18-year war in the country.

The meeting of the RIC foreign ministers is also expected to delve into key connectivity projects in the region including the implementation of the 7,200 km-long International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) linking India, Iran, Afghanistan and Central Asia with Europe.

A political activist from Gilgit Baltistan has condemned Chinese aggression in Ladakh saying Beijing is feeling threatened by India's infrastructure projects in the Union Territory.

Senge H Sering, the director of Institute of Gilgit Baltistan Studies told ANI, "India is improving its infrastructure and making its access to Karakoram Pass much easier. That means India will be able to access G219 (China National Highway 219) from Galwan Valley, because it is very close to the watershed of the Galwan River. Then you will be able to cut Tibet from Xinjiang, in case India tries to move forward towards East and North. And you will also be able to cut the Eastern route, the second route of CPEC (China Pakistan Economic Corridor)."

Senge was reacting to a violent face-off between Indian and Chinese troops near the Galwan Valley area in which 20 Indian soldiers were killed on June 15. "The G219 also feeds into the feeder roads and makes China's control over Shaksgam, Agel, Raskam and Shimshal much stronger and superior. So, India makes China's presence in Xinjiang and Tibet very weak by extending its own infrastructure to Karakoram Pass," he added.

"China doesn't want it to happen. So, China is trying to intimidate India and asking to not to move forward and construct infrastructure in Eastern part of Ladakh," said Senge, who is well aware about the geography and strategic importance of the region.

China's economy has been in shambles ever since COVID-19 broke out in its Wuhan city late last year. Experts believe that President Xi Jinping's handling of the pandemic has exposed serious structural cracks in the facade of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

"So, China is attacking India and Taiwan or enabling Nepal to claim India's land as a distracting tactic and allowing people to galvanise to be more nationalistic and this way they want to prolong their own control over their country but, the fact remains that Tibetans and Uyghurs, they don't want China to control their land any more", said Senge H Sering.

Senge said, "On top of that when India improves its infrastructure it becomes even more threatening for China. So, if you have all aspects together, you will realise that China will try to do its utmost. It will use all options there to not enable India to build infrastructure but the fact remains that China is an occupier in Aksai Chin, in Gilgit Baltistan and now it's trying to intrude into Ladakh."

He laid stress on the fact that by abiding all international rules and regulations China must withdraw from Aksai Chin and other occupied areas.

"These are Indian territories. The people in Xinjiang, especially the Uyghur, recognize that these are India's lands and people in Tibet - the Tibetan government-in-exile, recognize that these are India's lands. There is no dispute with the people of Xinjiang and people of Tibet as far as Aksai Chin, Shaksgam and other parts of Ladakh are concerned. So, the International community should stand with India and make China withdraw from these places", said Senge by adding that India must immediately build a protective wall in front of DS-DBO (Darbuk-Shyok-DBO) Road since China is trying to damage it by flooding the Galwan River.

China feels threatened by India's infra building in Ladakh, says Gilgit activist

The worst two mistakes a military can make are to&nbsp;send unarmed troops to the border, and&nbsp;start a war when you cannot afford one.

So, can china afford an all-out war with India? The answer would be 'no'.

The major reason being that military deployment is a big challenge for China right now as it is already engaged in one too many fronts.

Another reason would be that the country is already fighting its internal war, and China cannot afford to fire right now as there is already too much global heat against it.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/videos/there-is-not-much-clarity-on-outcome-of-talks-between-india-and-china-306853">Also watch|&nbsp; There is not much clarity on outcome of talks between India and China</a>

Military deployment

What a country needs during a war is to quickly round up its forces at the frontline, and this is the last thing China can do right now.

China is fighting fires at several fronts&nbsp;as we speak. Its ground forces, &nbsp;its navy, its war planes are all engaged.

<div class="videoWrapper trancodeVideo"><iframe allowfullscreen="" autoplay="1" class="includeVideo" frameborder="0" height="350" src="https://www.wionews.com/videos/gravitas-can-china-afford-a-full-blown-war-with-india-306941/embed" style="width:100%;max-width:560px;" width="560"></iframe></div>

On one hand, Chinese fighter jets are busy intruding into Taiwan's airspace, fighting a proxy war of unification.

On the other hand,China&nbsp;also has its&nbsp;ships at the South China sea, trying to fortify its claim over the water and its islands. In the South China sea alone, Beijing is currently engaged with six countries --&nbsp;Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.

<a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/chinas-claims-over-galwan-valley-exaggerated-and-untenable-india-306689">Also read|&nbsp;China's claims over Galwan Valley 'exaggerated and untenable': India</a>

The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is creating artificial islands and carrying out exercises here.

Not just this, China is also in bad water with Japan right now, as Beijing's ships recently entered the Japanese water -- making Japan the seventh country to be at crossroads with China at the waters alone.

Then there is Hong Kong, and its ongoing pro-democracy movement. Striking a war with India right now will mean compromising on its surveillance in Hong Kong. The last thing Beijing wants is an uprising there.

Internal conflicts

China already has its plates full at home. There are one too many theatres of conflict.

China is still fighting to legitimise its claims on Tibet. It is also advocating for reunification of outer Mongolia. In addition to this, Chinese troops&nbsp;are engaged in the prosecution of Uighurs in Xinjiang.

And as we speak, they are fighting the second wave of coronavirus in Beijing.

Can China leave all these fronts and move to Sino-India border?

Budgetary issues

Let's say, hypothetically, the Chinese troops do abandon these posts and head to Ladakh, the question that arises then is that will the Chinese government be able to fund a war right now?

China's GDP stood at 20.65 trillion Yuan (2.91 trillion dollars) in the first quarter of 2020. Their GDP was down 6.9 per cent year-on-year.

It is not just the GDP that has observed a decline; China's relations with other countries, too, have observed a decline as industries are moving out of China.

Its manufacturing has slipped, and so has demand. There is a 8.5 per cent decline in imports.

The coronavirus has hammered the Chinese economy, and as a result, people are out of jobs and struggling to make ends meet.

The last thing China needs right now&nbsp;is a war. Too bad that Beijing, however, is already fighting one.

Trade war

China is in trade war with the United States. Although,&nbsp;it is economically at war with Australia too.

According to reports, the trade war with US cost&nbsp;China 35 billion dollars in the first half of 2019 alone. Among the hardest-hit sectors were computers and office machinery.

Fighting India would mean losing out on Indian markets, and losing over 74.72 billion dollars from exports alone.

Another major reason China cannot afford to go to war with India right now is its lack of allies presently, excluding the debt-ridden Pakistan, or humble Nepal.

India, on the other hand, has the support of the world's leading powers -- diplomatically and militarily.

If China fires a shot at Ladakh, it will be abushed from all fronts and its economy will tank.

China faces the danger of being&nbsp;diplomatically isolated, and there is a chance the Chinese leadership will not survive this blow.

The answer would be 'no'. The major reason being that military deployment is a big challenge for China right now as it is already engaged in one too many fronts. Another reason would be that the country is already fighting its internal war, and China cannot afford to fire right now as there is already too much global heat against it. Also watch| There is not much clarity on outcome of talks between India and China Military deployment What a country needs during a war is to quickly round up its forces at the frontline, and this is the last thing China can do right now. China is fighting fires at several fronts as we speak. Its ground forces, its navy, its war planes are all engaged. On one hand, Chinese fighter jets are busy intruding into Taiwan's airspace, fighting a proxy war of unification. On the other hand,China also has its ships at the South China sea, trying to fortify its claim over the water and its islands. In the South China sea alone, Beijing is currently engaged with six countries -- Taiwan, Vietnam, the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia. Also read| China's claims over Galwan Valley 'exaggerated and untenable': India The People's Liberation Army (PLA) is creating artificial islands and carrying out exercises here. Internal conflicts China already has its plates full at home. There are one too many theatres of conflict. China is still fighting to legitimise its claims on Tibet. It is also advocating for reunification of outer Mongolia. In addition to this, Chinese troops are engaged in the prosecution of Uighurs in Xinjiang. And as we speak, they are fighting the second wave of coronavirus in Beijing. Can China leave all these fronts and move to Sino-India border? Budgetary issues Let's say, hypothetically, the Chinese troops do abandon these posts and head to Ladakh, the question that arises then is that will the Chinese government be able to fund a war right now? China's GDP stood at 20.65 trillion Yuan (2.91 trillion dollars) in the first quarter of 2020. Their GDP was down 6.9 per cent year-on-year. It is not just the GDP that has observed a decline; China's relations with other countries, too, have observed a decline as industries are moving out of China. Its manufacturing has slipped, and so has demand. There is a 8.5 per cent decline in imports. The coronavirus has hammered the Chinese economy, and as a result, people are out of jobs and struggling to make ends meet. The last thing China needs right now is a war. Too bad that Beijing, however, is already fighting one. Trade war China is in trade war with the United States. Although, it is economically at war with Australia too. According to reports, the trade war with US cost China 35 billion dollars in the first half of 2019 alone. China faces the danger of being diplomatically isolated, and there is a chance the Chinese leadership will not survive this blow.

India-China border dispute: 20 Indian soldiers martyred in a violent face-off with Chinese troops

Two officials of the Indian High Commission were released on Monday hours after the Pakistani police arrested them for their alleged involvement in a hit-and-run incident here.

Two officials of the Indian High Commission were released on Monday hours after the Pakistani police arrested them for their alleged involvement in a hit-and-run incident here. Police released the two officials after the Foreign Office informed the authorities that they had diplomatic immunity. The FO identified the officials as Dwimu Brahma and Paul Selvadhas who arrived in Pakistan in 2017. Both of them were non-diplomats, it said. Police said that after completing formality, they were released and handed over to an official of the Indian mission. Officials of the Foreign Office were also present on the occasion, they said. The two officials were arrested in the morning from the Embassy Road in G-6 area of the capital after their vehicle allegedly hit a pedestrian. A police official told the media that they were shifted to Secretariat Police Station and a case was registered against them for "injuring a person in reckless driving and trying to flee." According to the FIR, they were allegedly carrying fake currency. The pedestrian was critically injured and shifted to a hospital for treatment, Geo News reported, quoting some eyewitnesses. Earlier on Monday, India summoned the Pakistan charge d'affaires in New Delhi and lodged a strong protest to him over the reported arrest of two officials of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Accidents involving vehicles belonging to diplomatic missions have been frequent in recent years, Pakistani media reports said. Earlier this year, an SUV belonging to the US Embassy drove into a car on a main artery of Islamabad, killing a woman and injuring five members of her family. The police arrested the Pakistani driver of the US Embassy and registered a case against him. Monday's incident comes two weeks after India expelled two Pakistan High Commission officials here on charges of espionage. India had declared Abid Hussain and Muhammad Tahir as 'persona non grata' after they were found obtaining sensitive documents relating to movement of Indian Army troops from an Indian national, according to authorities here. Following their expulsion, Pakistani agencies started harassing a number of Indian High Commission officials in Islamabad including charge d'affaires Gaurav Ahluwalia. Pakistan had downgraded diplomatic ties by expelling the Indian High Commissioner in Islamabad following India's decision to withdraw special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August last year.

India on Monday ripped into Pakistan for raising the Kashmir issue at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) here and expressed "serious concern" over Pakistan`s audacity to accuse others of "effecting a state-sponsored genocide. "Exercising its Right of Reply after Pakistan raised Kashmir at the 43rd session of UNHRC, Senthil Kumar, the First Secretary of India`s Permanent Mission called out Islamabad for misusing the rights forum and its mechanism and asked the neighbouring country to introspect on its grave human rights situations before extending unsolicited advice to anybody. Drawing the attention of the Council to crimes against humanity in Pakistan, New Delhi stated that enforced disappearances, state violence, forced mass displacement, extrajudicial killings, army operations, torture camps, detention centres, and military camps are a regular feature in Balochistan. Maintaining that India`s decision to revoke Article 370 of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in August year does not have any external ramifications, Kumar said that the people have marched ahead despite Pakistan`s "nefarious attempt" to derail peace and prosperity. "It`s unfortunate that Pakistan continues to maintain its track record of misuse of the Human Rights Council and its mechanism. It`s a matter of serious concern that Pakistan being the only country in South Asia of effecting a state-sponsored genocide would have the audacity to accuse others of it," Kumar said. "It`s questionable that a country of serious credibility issues would talk about human rights and self-determination. This country emerged out of religious fundamentalism and bloodshed and its history rigged with assassinations, coups and puppets running," he added. Kumar elaborated on the human rights abuses and persecution faced by the minority communities in Pakistan. He talked about the misuse of Blasphemy in Pakistan to terrorize minorities and cited examples of systemic targeting of minorities through blasphemy laws. "Systemic misuse of Blasphemy in Pakistan has terrorized the minorities in Pakistan. The recent fate of two Hindu girls in Sindh, one Christian girl in Lahore, one Ahmadi lady in Chaleki, two professors from Khairpur are the examples of systemic targeting of minorities through blasphemy laws. The state of Pakistan is well manifested in the impunity in the murder of 65 transgenders in Pakistan since 2015," Kumar explained.

Map politics

As we all know, Nepal wants to update its map to include the disputed territories of Kalapani, Lipulekh and Limpiyadhura.

On Saturday, the lower house of the Nepal parliament unanimously voted in favour of altering the map. Atleast 258 out of 275 lawmakers are said to have voted in favour of the constitution amendment bill.

On Sunday, the bill reached the upper house and a&nbsp;proposal to discuss the amendment bill for approval was unanimously endorsed.

The discussion is expected to go on for 72 hours, and the outcome will be declared by Thursday.

Happenings at Delhi

The Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh has categorically stated that any misunderstanding with Nepal will be sorted only through dialogue. He even used a famous adage to describe India's ties with Nepal. He called the bilateral relationship "roti-beti ka rishta", which in simpler words means it's like a relationship between two families.

The two countries indeed have shared excellent bilateral ties. However, situation suddenly became very tense during the pandemic.

On May 08, the Indian Defence Minister virtually inaugurated a new 80-kilometre long road in the Himalayas. This road was built along the India-China border at the Lipulekh pass.

Three days later, on May 11,&nbsp;Kathmandu protested and contended that the road crosses territory it claims.

It accused India of changing the status quo and summoned the Indian ambassador to Kathmandu.

Nepal's actions were followed by some remarks by the Indian army chief on May 15.

Without taking any names, army chief M.M Naravane said that Nepal was doing what it was doing at someone else's behest -- a&nbsp;subtle reference to the growing influence of China in Nepal.

What followed was an endless war-of-words. The Prime Minister of Nepal unleashed a torren of invectives against India. He took jibes at the Indian motto of 'satyamev jayate' ---- truth prevails. Prime Minister K.P Oli said that India was not living up to this motto.

Its been less than a month and now his government is on the verge of passing a constitutional amendment to alter its official map.

If this continues, a possible dispute between India and Nepal will further put the stability of this region at risk. So,&nbsp;New Delhi and Kathmandu need to think out of the box and find a practical solution.

On Saturday, the lower house of the Nepal parliament unanimously voted in favour of altering the map. Atleast 258 out of 275 lawmakers are said to have voted in favour of the constitution amendment bill. On Sunday, the bill reached the upper house and a proposal to discuss the amendment bill for approval was unanimously endorsed. The discussion is expected to go on for 72 hours, and the outcome will be declared by Thursday. Also read| New Delhi expresses surprise at Nepal PM Oli's 'distorted' comments on Covid surge in country due to India Happenings at Delhi The Defence Minister of India Rajnath Singh has categorically stated that any misunderstanding with Nepal will be sorted only through dialogue. Three days later, on May 11, Kathmandu protested and contended that the road crosses territory it claims. It accused India of changing the status quo and summoned the Indian ambassador to Kathmandu. Nepal's actions were followed by some remarks by the Indian army chief on May 15. Without taking any names, army chief M.M Naravane said that Nepal was doing what it was doing at someone else's behest -- a subtle reference to the growing influence of China in Nepal. So, New Delhi and Kathmandu need to think out of the box and find a practical solution.

India and China have agreed for "early resolution" of the ongoing face-off at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, India's ministry of external affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.

India and China have agreed for "early resolution" of the ongoing face-off at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, India's ministry of external affairs (MEA) said on Thursday. Speaking at the weekly MEA presser, spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said, "It was agreed that an early resolution of the situation would be in keeping with the guidance of the leaders." He explained, "The two sides are, therefore, maintaining their military and diplomatic engagements to peacefully resolve the situation at the earliest as also to ensure peace and tranquillity in the border areas. This is essential for the further development of Indian-China bilateral relations." Both sides have had discussions at military and diplomatic levels on the LAC face off. At the level of militaries, Corps Commanders of India and China met at Chushul-Moldo region on 6th June and again on 10th June talks happened at Major General level in Galwan. More talks are expected to happen at divisional and brigade commander level. On Tuesday, sources in Delhi confirmed that Chinese troops disengaged at 3 points and went back 2.5 KM. These areas are Galwan Area, Patrolling Point 15 and hot springs area. As reciprocity, Indian troops also went back. But the issue of de-escalation at Pangong Tso remained China has already reacted to the latest development saying both sides have reached a "positive consensus" over border row. Spokesperson of Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Hua Chunying said," Recently China and India conducted effective communication through diplomatic and military channels on properly resolving the relevant situation of the western China-India border, and reached positive consensus." After the 2017 Doklam crisis, both Indian PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping gave "strategic guidance" to both the respective ministries in 2 informal summits--the Wuhan informal summit of 2018 and Chennai connect summit of 2019 so that there is no repetition of the past.

A force to reckon with or a paper dragon? A question aimed at understanding the so-called might of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). Tonight, this army is retreating from the border in Ladakh.

A force to reckon with or a paper dragon? A question aimed at understanding the so-called might of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). Tonight, this army is retreating from the border in Ladakh. And the question becomes all the more significant. Does the PLA live up to the eulogizing reports by the Chinese state media? Is their ground enough for the hyperbole and hubris around its capabilities? It is the largest military force in the world. It has the second-largest defence budget in the world and it's under the absolute control of the Chinese communist party. The People's Liberation Army has grown more assertive during this pandemic. It is militarizing disputed islands in the South China sea, it is intensifying pressure on Taiwan and is attempting to grab territories at the India-China border. But lost in the hyperbole of its might and technological prowess is a sense of perspective. The PLA continues to be plagued by enduring weaknesses. The conscription challenge Technically the military service is mandatory for all Chinese citizens. The practice of conscription is held high even in the Chinese constitution. But the conscription cycle comes with its own set of challenges. The PLA is said to rely on approximately 800,000 conscripts that have to serve for a period of two years. Each conscript is trained for 90 days along with 15 days of political indoctrination. Due to this policy, the forces lose 20 to 35 per cent of their combat power for a period of three to four months annually. It recruits heavily but fails to retain professionals. Professionalism of recruits The second big challenge is recruiting and retaining qualified personnel. China's army recruits a higher number of poor youth from rural backgrounds. They join for the perks. The educated city dwellers tend to leave. Experts blame the one-child policy for this. A policy which is said to produce pampered children who cannot withstand military discipline. When in the army, they're dissatisfied the post-service perks are few. This weakens the force by depriving it of high-quality professionals. Civilian oversight The PLA is characterized by extremely weak civilian control. There's an almost total absence of civilian oversight. The only civilian in the military's chain of command is said to be the chairman of China's Central Military Commission President Xi Jinping himself. This leads to rampant corruption and allows the PLA to demand and spend its budget without accountability. There is no discussion or debate over the levels of allocations funding or PLA strategies in the National People's Congress. Operational initiative The CCP doesn't allow decision making at lower levels. It's the same with the PLA. This prevents the front-line commanders from taking initiative. It hinders soldiers from responding quickly to developments. The result is confusion and frustration at lower levels as troops await decisions from above. Insufficient training The videos don't tell the real story, they gloss over the fact that China's soldiers undergo insufficient training in conditions that are not challenging enough. Military exercises are not seen as a chance to identify problems. The aim is to always succeed. This reduces military training into opportunities to impress superiors. A few headlines give a preview to what it is. The military's orienteering team was disqualified for cheating at the military world games held in China last year and in 2015, Chinese troops as part of a UN peacekeeping force in Sudan are said to have fled the battlefield rather than engage in combat. This is the People's Liberation Army, burdened with organizational problems and riddled with inefficiencies. Neither perfect nor invincible.
