His 38 runs off 27 balls has now made him the leading run-getter in the shortest format as an Indian skipper. He has scored 1,126 runs in 35 T20Is. &nbsp;

He currently ranks third in the list of highest run-scorers as a T20I captain.

Kohli was 81 runs short of MS Dhoni's runs (1,112) in T20Is before the series began.&nbsp;

Faf Du Plessis leads the list with 1,273 runs in 40 T20Is.&nbsp;

Virat Kohli needs to score 68 runs to surpass Faf du Plessis and become the highest run-scorer as a T20I captain. After scoring 45 runs and 11 runs in the first and second matches respectively, he was just 25 runs shy from achieving this feat.&nbsp;

India has posed a competitive total of 179/5 in the first innings against the Kiwis in the Third T20I, in Seddon Park, Hamilton.&nbsp;

India would want to defend this total, to add another feather to Kohli's cap, as he will become the first Indian skipper to win the series in New Zealand.&nbsp;

The head of the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/coronavirus-cases-likely-to-rise-in-china-world-health-organisation-276391">World Health Organisation </a>said on Tuesday he was confident in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/china-virus-death-toll-passes-100-as-us-canada-issue-travel-warning-276958">China</a>'s ability to contain a new <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/discovery-of-a-cure-for-coronavirus-claimed-by-siddha-doctor-from-tamil-nadu-276986">coronavirus</a>&nbsp;that has killed 106 people and that he did not think foreigners should be evacuated,&nbsp;China's foreign ministry said.

A growing number of&nbsp;countries&nbsp;have said they will evacuate their citizens from Wuhan, a central city of 11 million people and the epicentre of the outbreak.

A chartered&nbsp;plane taking out <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/us-top-court-sides-with-trump-on-immigrant-welfare-benefits-276959">US</a>&nbsp;consulate staff was set to leave Wuhan on Wednesday, a spokeswoman at the US&nbsp;embassy in Beijing said.

Concern is mounting about the impact of the coronavirus&nbsp;may have on the world's second-biggest economy amid travel bans and an extended <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/paris-cancels-lunar-new-year-parade-due-to-chinas-viral-outbreak-276669">Lunar New Year</a> holiday. Global stocks fell again, oil prices hit three-month lows and&nbsp;China's yuan currency dipped to its weakest in 2020.

The head of the&nbsp;WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in a meeting with State Councillor Wang Yi in Beijing, said he approved of the government's measures to curb the outbreak, the foreign ministry said.

"Tedros said the&nbsp;WHO&nbsp;does not advocate for&nbsp;countries&nbsp;to evacuate their citizens from&nbsp;China, adding there was no need to overreact," the foreign ministry said in a statement. "He said the&nbsp;WHO&nbsp;is confident in&nbsp;China's ability to prevent and control the epidemic."

A&nbsp;WHO&nbsp;panel of 16 independent experts twice last week declined to declare an international emergency over the outbreak.

The flu-like&nbsp;virus&nbsp;has spread overseas, with <a href="https://www.wionews.com/south-asia/sri-lanka-imposes-visa-restriction-on-chinese-tourists-amid-coronavirus-outbreak-277052">Sri Lanka</a> and <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/suspected-woman-linked-to-islamic-state-returned-to-germany-264251">Germany</a> the latest&nbsp;countries&nbsp;to be hit, but none of the 106 deaths has been&nbsp;outside&nbsp;China&nbsp;and all but six have been in the central city of Wuhan, where the&nbsp;virus&nbsp;emerged last month.

Thailand confirmed six more infections among visitors from&nbsp;China, taking its tally to 14, the highest&nbsp;outside&nbsp;China.

Far eastern Russian regions would close their borders with&nbsp;China&nbsp;until February&nbsp;7, Tass news agency said, citing the regional government.

Wuhan, where the&nbsp;virus&nbsp;apparently jumped to a human in an illegal wildlife market, has been all but put under quarantine, with a lockdown on transport and bans on gatherings.

Tens of millions of others in Hubei live under some form of travel curbs set up to try to stifle the&nbsp;virus.

The&nbsp;WHO&nbsp;said only one of the overseas cases involved human-to-human transmission.

"That’s still one case too many. But we’re encouraged that so far we have not seen more human-to-human transmission&nbsp;outside&nbsp;China," the&nbsp;WHO&nbsp;said on Twitter.

"We’re monitoring the outbreak constantly."

Tuesday's toll of 106 dead was up from 81 the day before. The number of total confirmed cases in&nbsp;China&nbsp;surged to 4,515 as of Monday from 2,835 the previous day, the National Health Commission said.

Incubation&nbsp;estimates

Analysts said&nbsp;China's travel and tourism would be the hardest-hit sectors, together with retail and liquor sales, though healthcare and online shopping were seen as likely outperformers.

Officially known as "2019-nCoV", the coronavirus&nbsp;can cause pneumonia, but it is too early to know just how dangerous it is and how easily it spreads.

Some health experts question whether&nbsp;China&nbsp;can contain it.

Chinese health officials say the incubation period could range from one to 14 days, and the&nbsp;virus&nbsp;is infectious during that time. The&nbsp;WHO&nbsp;estimated an incubation period of two to 10 days.

Canada, which has two infections and 19 potential cases, warned its citizens to avoid travel to Hubei.

Authorities in Hubei, home to nearly 60 million people, have been the focus of public outrage on&nbsp;China's heavily censored social media over what many see as a bungled initial response to the&nbsp;virus.

In rare public self-criticism, Mayor Zhou Xianwang said Wuhan's management of the crisis was "not good enough" and indicated he was willing to resign.

China's ambassador to the United Nations, following a meeting with UN Secretary-General <a href="https://www.wionews.com/world/united-nations-chief-antonio-guterres-urges-iran-to-stick-to-nuclear-deal-after-breaching-cap-232148">Antonio Guterres</a>, said his government put "paramount importance" on the epidemic and was working with the international community in a spirit of "openness, transparency and scientific coordination".

Communist Party-ruled&nbsp;China&nbsp;has been eager to seem open in its handling of the epidemic after it was heavily criticised for efforts to cover up an epidemic of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) that killed about 800 people globally in 2002-2003.

The head of the World Health Organisation said on Tuesday he was confident in China's ability to contain a new coronavirus that has killed 106 people and that he did not think foreigners should be evacuated, China's foreign ministry said. A growing number of countries have said they will evacuate their citizens from Wuhan, a central city of 11 million people and the epicentre of the outbreak. A chartered plane taking out US consulate staff was set to leave Wuhan on Wednesday, a spokeswoman at the US embassy in Beijing said. Also read: Coronavirus outbreak: Deadly virus continues to spread outside China Some space was being offered to other US citizens. India said it was preparing to evacuate its citizens from Hubei province, of which Wuhan is the capital. Watch: Three suspected cases of coronavirus in New Delhi Concern is mounting about the impact of the coronavirus may have on the world's second-biggest economy amid travel bans and an extended Lunar New Year holiday. Global stocks fell again, oil prices hit three-month lows and China's yuan currency dipped to its weakest in 2020. The head of the WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, in a meeting with State Councillor Wang Yi in Beijing, said he approved of the government's measures to curb the outbreak, the foreign ministry said. "Tedros said the WHO does not advocate for countries to evacuate their citizens from China, adding there was no need to overreact," the foreign ministry said in a statement. "He said the WHO is confident in China's ability to prevent and control the epidemic." Also read: China coronavirus: WHO yet to decide if Wuhan virus is a global health emergency The WHO chief, who also met President Xi Jinping, was not available for comment. A WHO panel of 16 independent experts twice last week declined to declare an international emergency over the outbreak. The flu-like virus has spread overseas, with Sri Lanka and Germany the latest countries to be hit, but none of the 106 deaths has been outside China and all but six have been in the central city of Wuhan, where the virus emerged last month. Thailand confirmed six more infections among visitors from China, taking its tally to 14, the highest outside China. Far eastern Russian regions would close their borders with China until February 7, Tass news agency said, citing the regional government. Chinese-ruled Hong Kong said cross-border ferry services would stop. Watch: Hong Kong confirms 8th case of coronavirus, Hubei residents banned Wuhan, where the virus apparently jumped to a human in an illegal wildlife market, has been all but put under quarantine, with a lockdown on transport and bans on gatherings. Tens of millions of others in Hubei live under some form of travel curbs set up to try to stifle the virus. The WHO said only one of the overseas cases involved human-to-human transmission. "That’s still one case too many. But we’re encouraged that so far we have not seen more human-to-human transmission outside China," the WHO said on Twitter. "We’re monitoring the outbreak constantly." Tuesday's toll of 106 dead was up from 81 the day before. The number of total confirmed cases in China surged to 4,515 as of Monday from 2,835 the previous day, the National Health Commission said. Incubation estimates Analysts said China's travel and tourism would be the hardest-hit sectors, together with retail and liquor sales, though healthcare and online shopping were seen as likely outperformers. Officially known as "2019-nCoV", the coronavirus can cause pneumonia, but it is too early to know just how dangerous it is and how easily it spreads. Some health experts question whether China can contain it. Chinese health officials say the incubation period could range from one to 14 days, and the virus is infectious during that time. The WHO estimated an incubation period of two to 10 days. Also see: Coronavirus attack: Deadly virus outbreaks across the world which created panic in the past US President Donald Trump on Monday offered China whatever help it needed, while the State Department said Americans should reconsider visiting China. Canada, which has two infections and 19 potential cases, warned its citizens to avoid travel to Hubei. Authorities in Hubei, home to nearly 60 million people, have been the focus of public outrage on China's heavily censored social media over what many see as a bungled initial response to the virus. In rare public self-criticism, Mayor Zhou Xianwang said Wuhan's management of the crisis was "not good enough" and indicated he was willing to resign. China's ambassador to the United Nations, following a meeting with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said his government put "paramount importance" on the epidemic and was working with the international community in a spirit of "openness, transparency and scientific coordination". Communist Party-ruled China has been eager to seem open in its handling of the epidemic after it was heavily criticised for efforts to cover up an epidemic of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) that killed about 800 people globally in 2002-2003. SARS, which was also believed to have originated in a wildlife market, led to a 45 percent plunge in air passenger demand in Asia. The <a href="https://www.wionews.com/.../pm-johnson-signs-agreement-for-britain-to- leave-european-union-276448">European Union</a> (EU) Parliament should not take any action questioning the rights and authority of democratically elected legislatures, government sources said on Sunday, ahead of a debate on a batch of resolutions against India's new <a href="https://www.wionews.com/.../despite-protests-citizenship-amendment-act-will- not-be-withdrawn-amit-shah-275742">citizenship law</a> by the powerful bloc of 28 nations.

India hopes that the "sponsors and supporters" of the resolutions will engage with the government to get a full and accurate assessment of facts before they proceed further, the sources said.

The EU Parliament is set to debate on the resolutions tabled by a large chunk of its members against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), saying the enactment of the new law marked a dangerous shift in India's citizenship regime.

The new law, passed by Parliament last month, offers citizenship to non-Muslim persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan. India has been witnessing massive protests against the new law with opposition parties, civil rights groups and activists saying granting citizenship based on religion is against the foundational principle of the Constitution.

Reiterating New Delhi's stated position, the sources said the CAA was an entirely internal matter of India and that the legislation was adopted through democratic means after a debate in both houses of Parliament.

"Every society that fashions a pathway to naturalisation contemplates both a context and criteria. This is not discrimination. In fact, European societies have followed the same approach," a government source said, explaining why India is opposed to the resolutions at the EU parliament.

A total of six resolutions have been tabled by groups within the EU, including the Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats in the European Parliament (S&amp;D), Group of the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) (PPE), Group of the Greens/European Free Alliance (Verts/ALE), European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR), Renew Europe Group (Renew) and European United Left/Nordic Green Left (GUE/NGL) Group.

The resolutions have a similar theme with a number of them, such as the one tabled by the GUE/NGL Group, also making a reference to the revocation of Article 370 of the Constitution that gave a special status to Jammu and Kashmir. They are set to be debated in the European Parliament in Brussels next Wednesday and voted the day after.

The resolutions urge the Indian authorities to "engage constructively" with those protesting against the law and consider their demands to repeal the "discriminatory CAA".

"The CAA marks a dangerous shift in the way citizenship will be determined in India and is set to create the largest statelessness crisis in the world and cause immense human suffering," according to the GUE/NGL resolution.

"Instead of addressing the concerns, offering corrective action, calling for security forces to act with restraint and ensuring accountability, many government leaders have been engaging in efforts to discredit, rebuke and threaten the protesters," it stated.

The Indian government has been emphasising that the new law does not deny any citizenship rights, but has been brought to protect the oppressed minorities of neighbouring countries and give them citizenship.&nbsp;

India, Brazil ink 15 pacts; unveil action plan to broadbase ties

Nepal on Saturday became the first South Asian nation to offer to "mediate" between India and Pakistan over Kashmir and cross-border terrorism with a Nepal government source underlining the importance of dialogue between the two arch-rivals to resolve their differences that could also lead to the revival of the SAARC.

Tensions between India and Pakistan have spiked since India abrogated Article 370 of the Constitution to revoke the special status of Jammu and Kashmir in August last year. India's decision evoked strong reactions from Pakistan, which downgraded diplomatic ties and expelled the Indian envoy.

"Peaceful talks and discussions are the best ways to resolve any problems. There may be contradictions and differences but it can be resolved through dialogue. If necessary, we can play the role of the mediator as Nepal is an independent, neutral and peace loving country," the source said here.

The source, however, said that better solution to resolve the issues would be to develop better dialogue between two countries.

"We can be instrumental, but it will be better (for the two sides) to develop direct contact," the source told a group of visiting Indian journalists.

Earlier this week, US President Donald Trump repeated his offer to "help" resolve the Kashmir issue between India and Pakistan during his meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

New Delhi maintains that there is no scope for any third-party mediation between India and Pakistan over Kashmir.

"When we come together, sit together and share views then things will be resolved. In every situation, we have to sit together and try to resolve the problem otherwise things can be deteriorated," the Nepalese source said.

Expressing concern over the uncertainty prevailing over the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit, the source said the eight member grouping should be revitalised and misunderstandings should be removed.

"SAARC is not dead. It is alive. Only thing is that we have not met. Hope we can revive it," he said.

The last SAARC Summit in 2014 was held in Kathmandu, which was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The 2016 SAARC summit was to be held in Islamabad. But after the terrorist attack on an Indian Army camp in Uri in Jammu and Kashmir on September 18 that year, India expressed its inability to participate in the summit due to "prevailing circumstances".

The summit was called off after Bangladesh, Bhutan and Afghanistan also declined to participate in the Islamabad meet.

In the last three years, India has been distancing itself from the SAARC, citing security challenge facing the region from terror networks based in Pakistan, which is also a member of the grouping.

Nepal is still the Chairman of the SAARC because of the postponement of the 2016 summit in Islamabad.

On Friday, Nepal's Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali said his country is "ready and eager" to handover the position to Pakistan.

The source said that there was no link between SAARC and terrorism, a major issue between India and Pakistan that led to the cancellation of the 2016 summit.

"We are strongly against all forms and manifestations of terrorism. But there is no relationship between the two (SAARC and terrorism). We cannot connect the two issues," the source said.

Nepal, India, Pakistan, the Maldives, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are the members of the SAARC.

Identifying terrorism as a common threat to peace loving countries, the source said, "We have to deal with the issue of terrorism".

"I think that misunderstandings should be narrowed down and SAARC should be revitalised. It would be better to revise SAARC. I have told India that SAARC should be revitalised. We can find out amicable solutions," the source said.

SAARC summits are usually held biennially and hosted by member states in alphabetical order. The member state hosting the summit assumes the Chair of the Association.
On the boundary issue with India, the source said the two countries can discuss any issue based on "truth, evidences and facts".

India in November released fresh maps of the newly-created union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. In the maps, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is part of Jammu and Kashmir, while Gilgit-Baltistan is in Ladakh.

Nepal claimed that Limpiyadhura, Lipulek and Kalapani areas were shown under India's territory even though they lie within the Nepalese territory.

India has said the new map accurately depicts its sovereign territory and it has in no manner revised its boundary with Nepal.

"We can resolve any issue if we discuss. Sometimes some issues are left unresolved. We should not keep something in mind and don't speak out. This is not the situation now," the source said.

"We can share and discuss openly, including on the border issue. We are developing our friendly ties in a new track and depth," he said, adding that the leaders of the two sides have developed very good relations and taken the bilateral ties to the next level.

On National Register of Citizens (NRC) and its possible impact on Nepali speaking people and Gorkhas, the source said Nepal has been reassured by the statement of Defence

Minister Rajnath Singh that it would not have any impact on them.

"This is an issue of India and the people of India and they will resolve themselves," he added.&nbsp;

India likely to raise import duties on more than 50 items

India's corporate and income tax collection for the current year is likely to fall for the first time in at least two decades, several senior tax officials told Reuters, amid a sharp fall in economic growth and cut in corporate tax rates.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government was targeting direct tax collection of 13.5 trillion rupees ($189 billion) for the year ending March 31 - a 17 per cent increase over the prior fiscal year.

But a sharp decline in demand has stung businesses, forcing companies to cut investment and jobs, denting tax collections and prompting the government to forecast 5 per cent&nbsp;growth for this fiscal year - the slowest in 11 years.

The tax department had managed to collect only 7.3 trillion rupees as of January&nbsp;23, more than 5.5 per cent below the amount collected by the same point last year, said a senior tax official.

After collecting taxes from companies in advance for the first three quarters, officials typically garner about 30-35 per cent of annual direct taxes in the final three months, data from the past three years shows.

But eight senior tax officials interviewed by Reuters said despite their best efforts, direct tax collections this financial year were likely to fall below the 11.5 trillion collected in 2018-19.

"Forget the target. This will be the first time that we'll see a fall in direct tax collection ever," said a tax official in New Delhi.

He estimates that direct tax collections for this year could end up roughly 10 per cent below fiscal 2019.

The finance ministry did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Direct taxes typically account for about 80 per cent of the government's projections for annual revenue, and the shortfall may leave the government needing to boost borrowing to meet expenditure commitments.

The tax officials also say that a surprise cut in the headline corporate tax rate last year aimed at wooing manufacturers and boosting investment in Asia's third-biggest economy is another reason behind the sluggish tax collections.

"We'll be very happy if we can even break even with what we collected last year," said another senior tax official in the financial capital, Mumbai, the biggest tax generator, accounting for about a third of revenues from direct taxes. "But given the state of the economy, I'm not too hopeful."

'Go all out'

The concerns are exacerbated by a gaping shortfall in the goods and services tax (GST) that is expected to further hurt total collections.

The total tax collection shortfall for the current fiscal year could be about 3 trillion rupees - the highest shortfall ever recorded.

"With revenue sources stretched, we're not assuming any rise in the capex bill in FY21," Pranjul Bhandari, chief economist at HSBC in India, said in a note, adding she expects the government to resort to higher borrowing from the market.

The government is likely to keep the fiscal deficit under 3.8 per cent of gross domestic product, sources told Reuters earlier this month, while letting it slip from its earlier set target of 3.3 per cent for the year.

Tax officials have been stuck between the increasing number of complaints of harassment from Indian businesses, dubbed "tax terrorism" by Indian media, and the government's push to meet the target.

The government asked its officials at a meeting on December 20 to identify and initiate stern action against wilful tax evaders, sources said.

"The message from the top is very clear - go all out and collect," said a senior tax official in the eastern city of Kolkata.

The United States wants India to buy at least another $5-6 billion worth of American poultry and farm goods if New Delhi wants to win reinstatement of a key US&nbsp;trade concession, four sources familiar with the talks told Reuters.

In retaliation, India slapped higher tariffs on more than two dozens US&nbsp;products.

Ahead of a Trump visit to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi next month, negotiators on both sides are hammering out terms for a trade deal that would include New Delhi rolling back higher tariffs on some farm goods such as almonds, walnuts and apples, one of the sources said.

The hospital preparedness with regard to management and infection prevention control facilities has also been reviewed, he added. "We have adequate precautionary measures even for healthcare workers here. In case, if a large number of cases originated, we have to capacity to strengthen the isolation ward facilities," said Dr Guleria adding that the Central government is continuously doing thermal screening for passengers arriving in India from China via Hongkong. These airports include Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Cochin, Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata respectively. "Unfortunately, as of now there is no such treatment, vaccine and medication available for the treatment of nCoV as this typical virus mutates very fast and transmits from human to human easily. Hence, we have to follow preventive medication strategies," Dr Guleria added. "Coronavirus which is presently circulating in China is one from the family of SARS virus which was originated in China in 2002. It has been reported that the virus was originated from animals and this time also medical scientists are suspecting that the virus has been transmitted from animals too," he said. Till January 23, over 550 cases of pneumonia with nCoV were confirmed in China and a total of 17 people have died. The cases have been reported in more than 20 provinces (including Taiwan ) and municipalities as well.

K-4 ballistic missiles & Sukhois: Why the armed forces need to protect the Indian Ocean Region

Days after Pakistan's all-weather friend China raised the Kashmir issue at a closed-door meeting of the UNSC, Pakistan PM Imran Khan seems to have gone back to his Kashmir agenda.

In a series of tweets posted earlier today, Khan continued with his false allegations of atrocities in Kashmir and called for UN intervention.

"As Indian Occupation forces continue to target &amp; kill civilians across the LOC with increasing intensity &amp; frequency, there is an urgent need for UN SC to insist India allow UNMOGIP return to IOJK-side of LOC. We fear an Indian false flag operation," Khan tweeted out.

Pakistan won't remain inactive observer along LoC: Imran Khan

India, the world's third-biggest oil consumer, imports about 84% of its <a href="https://www.wionews.com/business-economy/as-wider-trade-dispute-looms-malaysia-talks-to-india-over-palm-curbs-274679">oil needs</a> and traditionally relies on the Middle East for the majority of its supply.

However, the region's share of India's crude shrank to 60% last year - down from 65% a year ago and the lowest since 2015 - as record output from the United States and countries like Russia offered opportunities for importers to tap other sources.

India shipped in 2.68 million barrels per day (BPD) oil from the Middle East in 2019, down about 10% from 2018, and around 1.8 million BPD from elsewhere.

Deeper than expected oil output cuts by OPEC and allies, shouldered by Saudi Arabia, and less supply from Iran due to US&nbsp;sanctions also dented India's intake of Middle Eastern oil, said Ehsan Ul Haq, analyst with Refinitiv.

Last year, sanctions and output cuts by OPEC and allies, known as OPEC+, reduced the group's supplies by 1.9 million BPD from 2018, while non-OPEC supply rose by 2 million BPD, the International Energy Agency said in its latest report.

The IEA forecast that producers outside the OPEC+ pact would grow supplies by 2.1 million BPD in 2020.

India is working on a strategy to diversify its oil supply sources to cut dependence on the Middle East, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said last week, adding that some refiners are in advance negotiations to boost Russian oil imports.

<img alt="Oil imports low" data-entity-type="file" data-entity-uuid="a431b9c8-7ba0-45fd-902e-0f558d54f055" src="//cdn.wionews.com/sites/default/files/inline-images/Untitled%20design%20-%202020-01-20T123522.599.jpg" />

The drive to expand crude sources also reflects a push by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to bolster ties with countries like Russia and the United States.

India's overall <a href="https://www.wionews.com/business-economy/as-palm-row-simmers-india-says-no-meeting-with-malaysia-in-davos-275314">oil imports</a> in 2019 fell by about 2.1% to 4.48 million BPD, the data showed because most refiners temporarily shut processing units for upgrades ahead of new fuel standards in 2020. India is migrating to Euro VI-compliant fuel from April 1.

Imports from CIS nations rose in 2019 by about 65% to 171,000 BPD, the data showed. Intake of African grades rose by 7.3% to about 713,000 BPD, while US&nbsp;supplies surged by about 63% to 181,000 BPD.

US&nbsp;oil accounted for about 4% of India's overall imports in 2019, up from just 2.5% a year earlier.

"The opening of an arbitrage window for US&nbsp;oil during the year changed oil flows. The differential was enough to take care of shipping," said Haq.

Demand for heavy Middle Eastern grades was also affected by a shift in bunker fuel specifications from January, following new industry rules promoting lower sulphur fuels.

"Most Middle Eastern grades yield high sulphur fuel oil (HSFO) and because of new marine fuel norms, refiners are buying more from other producers to cut production of HSFO and increase the output of very low sulphur fuel oil," Haq added.

Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium is set to host the finale of Australia's Tour of India. India's comeback in the second ODI will help reduce performance pressure on the players. They will be looking forward to continuing the winning-run, whereas the Australians will be looking to make some amendments to get back on winning ways.&nbsp;

The men in blue are little sceptical about the top order batting today as Rohit Sharma faced a dislocated shoulder and Shikhar Dhawan not stepping into the field after being hit at the rib cages by Pat Cummins in the previous knock.

Shreyas Iyer and Manish Pandey despite being splendid fielders&nbsp;are yet to find form in with their bats and they should be key elements in the middle-order. India's middle-order at the moment completely relies on KL Rahul. &nbsp;KL Rahul's 80 was crucial for India's high score.&nbsp;

Indian bowlers&nbsp;could not get even a single&nbsp;in the first ODI and managed to bowl out the entire Australian team in the second ODI.

Virat Kohli's 78 after returning to his regular batting slot held the team together. He is looking forward to coming out on the same number in the decider. Chinnaswamy is home to Virat's Royal Challengers Bangalore, the crowd will be expecting to bring up his record-breaking century today.

India vs Australia, 3rd ODI: After dominating display by each side, it comes down to decider

India's trade minister will not meet with his Malaysian counterpart in Davos next week because of his tight schedule, an Indian trade ministry official said on Sunday, as a spat simmers between the <a href="https://www.wionews.com/india-news/malaysian-pm-expresses-concern-after-india-puts-curbs-on-palm-oil-imports-274231">top buyer of palm oil and its biggest supplier</a>.

Hindu-majority India has repeatedly objected to Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad speaking out against a new citizenship law which critics say discriminate against Muslims.

Malaysia, a Muslim-majority nation, is the second biggest producer and exporter of palm oil and India's restrictions on the refined variety of the commodity imposed last week have been seen as a <a href="https://www.wionews.com/business-economy/india-puts-curbs-on-palm-oil-imports-from-malaysia-following-pm-mahathir-mohamad-caa-remark-273134">retaliation for Mahathir's criticism of New Delhi</a>.

A Malaysian government spokesman said on Friday that trade ministers from India and Malaysia could meet on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum's annual meeting in Davos.

But the Indian trade ministry official, who said he was speaking on behalf of the ministry, said no meeting was planned between India's Piyush Goyal and Malaysia's Darell Leiking.

"I can tell you fair and square there's no meeting between the Malaysian minister and the Indian trade minister at Davos," he said, asking not to be named as he was not a government spokesman.

"As part of a larger meeting of trade ministers they may be both together, but there's no meeting. The schedule is already finalised, and it's full."

India last week imposed curbs on refined palm oil, which a source in New Delhi with direct knowledge of the matter said could be used to deny or delay imports from Malaysia. India has been Malaysia's top palm market for five years.

The row dragged benchmark Malaysian palm futures to their biggest weekly decline in more than 11 years on Friday.

Malaysia's Leiking has sent a message to Goyal wishing him well for the Davos meeting, according to the message reviewed by Reuters.

Spokespeople for the trade ministries of India and Malaysia did not immediately respond to queries from Reuters.

Mahathir, the world's oldest premier at 94 and one of the Muslim world's biggest voices, has said he would continue to speak out against "wrong things" even if his words cost his country financially.

"Why is he harming his own country by his erratic actions?" the Indian official said, referring to Mahathir. "The comments he's making are very unprecedented."

Responding to a question on India's new religion-based citizenship law, Mahathir said last month the country was trying to "deprive some Muslims of their citizenship". At the U.N. General Assembly in September, he said India had "invaded and occupied" Kashmir, a disputed Muslim-majority region also claimed by Pakistan.

India's trade minister will not meet with his Malaysian counterpart in Davos next week because of his tight schedule, an Indian trade ministry official said on Sunday, as a spat simmers between the top buyer of palm oil and its biggest supplier.

India's trade minister will not meet with his Malaysian counterpart in Davos next week because of his tight schedule, an Indian trade ministry official said on Sunday, as a spat simmers between the top buyer of palm oil and its biggest supplier. Hindu-majority India has repeatedly objected to Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad speaking out against a new citizenship law which critics say discriminate against Muslims. Malaysia, a Muslim-majority nation, is the second biggest producer and exporter of palm oil and India's restrictions on the refined variety of the commodity imposed last week have been seen as a retaliation for Mahathir's criticism of New Delhi.
