Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday (May 11) declared the arrest of former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan was unlawful. Khan arrived in the court today after Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial ordered that the former premier be brought to court 'within an hour'. Imran Khan was arrested on May 9, following which massive protests erupted in Pakistan and even abroad. Khan's lawyers had challenged the legality of his arrest. After declaring his arrest unlawful, the top court ordered Imran Khan's immediate release. The court directed Imran Khan to approach Islamabad High Court. After CJP's summons earlier, Imran Khan arrived at the supreme court in a convoy of cars. He himself was travelling in a bullet-proof Mercedes. Imran Khan's arrest had enraged supporters of his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party. For two days, thousands of people had taken to the streets in protest around Pakistan, and violent clashes with security forces erupted. According to police and hospitals, at least nine people have died in protest-related incidents. Hundreds of police officers have been injured and more than 2,000 people arrested across the country, mostly in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provinces, police added. At least seven officials from PTI's central leadership accused of orchestrating the riots were also detained. On Thursday, police with batons and riot shields were deployed to quell any further unrest. Imran Khan's arrest was made in connection with Al Qadir Trust case. The issue is linked with Al-Qadir University. The trust was formed to back the university. Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi along with other PTI leaders have been accused of wrongdoing with respect to the trust. The issue is about an alleged agreement between Imran Khan government and a real estate magnate that allegedly cost Pakistan's struggling economy USD 50 billion. The issue came to light when Pakistani media said that the trust got 180 million Pakistani rupees but documents showed expenses of just 8.52 million Pakistani rupees. Supreme Court of Pakistan declares ex-prime minister Imran Khan's arrest unlawful

<p>Former Pakistani prime minister Imran Khan, who has been sent to an eight-day custody of the National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB), informed a court during a hearing that he fears for his life and that&nbsp;the current Shehbaz Sharif government in the country was trying to take his life inside the jail.</p>

<p>Khan told the court that he was afraid of meeting the same fate as Maqsood Çhaprasi', a key witness in the money laundering case against Shehbaz Sharif, who died last year.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per a death certificate issued by Emirati authorities, Maqsood ‘Chaprasi’ died of cardiac arrest in June 2022&nbsp;in the UAE. However, Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has expressed doubts about the nature of his death and called for an autonomous&nbsp;investigation into it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per Pakistani media reports, Imran Khan claimed in court that he was being heavily tortured and wasn't being&nbsp;allowed to use the washroom for 24 hours. He also said&nbsp;that the authorities will try to kill him because of his stand&nbsp;against the current regime, as reported by DNA.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Imran Khan said in court, “I have not been to the washroom in 24 hours.” He further added, “They give [you] an injection, and [you] slowly die."</p>

<p>As per AFP reports, Imran Khan’s lawyer Afzal Marwat said that the Khan&nbsp;was in “good spirits” but had complained of being struck&nbsp;on the back of the head and leg by paramilitary forces who arrested him earlier this week.</p>

<p>Imran Khan is accused of a number of violations across Pakistan, including corruption while serving as Pakistan's prime minister.&nbsp;Khan has been arrested in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case, the Islamabad Police announced on Tuesday.</p>

<p>The matter is linked to the founding of&nbsp;Al-Qadir University. Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and other PTI party leaders are alleged to have committed wrongdoing with regard to the Al-Qadir Trust, formed to back the university. The issue concerns an alleged agreement between his government and a real estate magnate that cost Pakistan's struggling economy $50 billion.</p>

<p>In order to establish the Al-Qadir University and provide "quality education" in the Sohawa Tehsil of Punjab's Jhelum area, Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and his close aides Zulfiqar Bukhari and Babar Awan established the Al-Qadir Project Trust, reported India Today.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Later, in 2019, Bushra Bibi signed a memorandum with the private real estate firm Bahria Town in order to accept donations from them. The trust later acquired land measuring 458 kanals, 4 marlas, and 58 square feet from Bahria Town as part of their agreement.</p>

<p>However, according to Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, Imran Khan worked out the division of the land and transferred 240 kanals of the donated land in the name of Farah Gogi, a close friend of Bushra Bibi.</p>

<p>According to Sanaullah, the value of this land had been underestimated and Khan obtained his part in the name of the institution. He further said that the previous PM sought to cover up the matter.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The scam was brought to light when the Pakistani media noted that the trust received 180 million Pakistani rupees even though the documents showed expenses of just 8.52 million Pakistani rupees. Additionally, they questioned why the institution was charging students if it was recognised as a trust.</p>

<p>Imran Khan&nbsp;and a few other ministers are said to have "adjusted" the $50 billion that the British National Crime Agency (NCA) gave to the government, according to a GeoNews report.</p>

<p>Additionally, it is alleged that the PTI leaders received illicit advantages in the form of more than 458 kanals of land in Mouza Bakrala, Sohawa, for the construction of Al Qadir University.</p>

Following the arrest of Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, at least eight people have been killed and over 290 were injured in the ongoing clashes with law enforcement officers across the country.

Protesters stormed the corps commander's house in Lahore cantonment. Food items like korma, salad, frozen strawberries & even ketchup were stolen. And not just food items, even peacocks were taken away. The chaos is reminiscent of the upheaval in Sri Lanka. Last July, protesters stormed the residence of Gotabaya Rajapaksa, then the president of Sri Lanka. Hundreds of protests packed into rooms & corridors, while hundreds also milled around the grounds outside. Videos showed scores of people taking a dip in the palace pool. Protesters lounged on beds piled high with pillows. In the lush green gardens of the premises, groups gathered with snacks, sipping on soda & tea.

Chaos engulfs Pakistan after former PM Imran Khan's arrest | WION Speed News

<p>Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, in a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday, was arrested outside Islamabad High Court in connection with a Rs 50 billion ($611 million) corruption scandal dubbed as Al-Qadir Trust case.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Khan is only the latest among a number of former Pakistani prime ministers who have circumvented the cycle between Islamabad's Prime Minister's Office to an 'undisclosed location' after arrest, throwing the spotlight on the supposed role of the country's deep state into running Pakistan's corridors of power.&nbsp;</p>

Former Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan, in a dramatic turn of events on Tuesday, was arrested outside Islamabad High Court in connection with a Rs 50 billion ($611 million) corruption scandal dubbed as Al-Qadir Trust case. Khan is only the latest among a number of former Pakistani prime ministers who have circumvented the cycle between Islamabad's Prime Minister's Office to an 'undisclosed location' after arrest, throwing the spotlight on the supposed role of the country's deep state into running Pakistan's corridors of power. Imran Khan arrest: Sequence of events On Saturday, May 6, Imran Khan at a political gathering in Lahore, said that an officer in Pakistan Inter-Services and Intelligence (ISI) was involved in an assassination attempt on him last November. Two days later, on Monday (May 8), the Pakistani military warned Imran Khan against making 'baseless allegations', a sentiment that was echoed by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as part of his reasoning behind justifying Khan's arrest after his predecessor was whisked away by men in uniform from Islamabad High Court on Tuesday. The arrests in corruption cases in Pakistan are conventionally made by the Rawalpindi-headquartered anti-corruption department National Accountability Bureau. But hours after Khan's arrest, Islamabad High Court's Chief Justice Aamer Farooq acknowledged that while the arrest warrant was issued by the NAB, "Khan was not arrested by the NAB", adding that the PTI chief was whisked away by Pakistan Rangers and not Islamabad Police. The above sequence of events put into spotlight the much-anticipated role of Pakistan's ISI in the country's politics.
