New Zealand captain Kane Williamson’s epic 238 in the second Test against Pakistan in Christchurch has helped him reach the best ever-rating points by a New Zealand player while consolidating his position at the top of the list of batsmen in the ICC Men's Test Players Rankings.

Williamson, named player of the series after leading his side to an innings and 176 runs win and a 2-0 victory in the two-Test series, has reached 919 rating points, bettering his own mark of 915 in December 2018. ICC Cricket Hall of Famer Richard Hadlee is the only other player from New Zealand to go past the 900-point mark, reaching a career-high 909 rating points in bowling in December 1985.

In the latest rankings update that includes the second Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka in Johannesburg and the third Test between Australia and India in Sydney, Steve Smith has leapfrogged Virat Kohli to second position after scores of 131 and 81 while Dean Elgar has moved to 13th&nbsp;position with knocks of 127 and 31 not out.

With 36 Test wickets so far, Jamieson is also fifth among all-rounders after only six Tests.

Azhar Ali’s knocks of 93 and 37 have helped him advance him seven places to 18th&nbsp;position and his compatriot Mohammad Rizwan’s first-innings half-century has helped him gain 10 places to reach 37th&nbsp;position.

The drawn Sydney Test saw Marun Labuschagne consolidate the fourth position with a career-best 866 rating points after scores of 91 and 73 while fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has gained three places to reach fifth position with four wickets in the match.

Williamson jumped from third to first after his Man of the Match effort leading the Black Caps to a memorable 101-run win against Pakistan while scoring a splendid 129 runs in the first innings and a rapid 21 in the second when New Zealand were trying to stretch the lead before declaring.

Williamson described the feeling as “humbling” to overtake Smith, who was atop the ICC Test Rankings for 313 days in 2020, Kohli, who was sitting numero uno for 51 days. Smith dipped to third in the ICC rankings behind Kohli after registering scores of duck and eight in Australia’s second Test against India where Kohli was on paternity leave.

"They are incredible players of our generation," Williamson said as he arrived in Christchurch ahead of the second Pakistan Test which starts on Sunday.

"Those two players are the best so for me to sneak up perhaps in some way, is very surprising and humbling."&nbsp;

His compatriot, Tom Latham, garnered his career-best points tally of 733 and tenth place on the table, thanks to his innings of 86.

Stuart Broad jumps to No. 3 in ICC Test Bowling Rankings after historic series against WI

Former India opener Gautam Gambhir has slammed the International Cricket Council’s ranking system as the World Cup winner questioned Australia taking the numero uno spot in the latest Test rankings. Gambhir is of the view that Team India has had a much greater impact in the longest format of the game with away wins, especially in Australia. The southpaw further questioned Australia’s new number one tag while opining that the Baggy Greens have been ‘absolutely pathetic’ in the sub-continent.&nbsp;

India ruled the Test rankings chart for 42 months before the latest ICC rankings removed the points that the teams accumulated from 2016-17 season.&nbsp;

"India have yielded the top spot for the first time since October 2016. This is largely because India had won 12 Tests and lost just one Test in 2016-17, the records of which were removed in the latest update," an ICC statement said.

Mohammad Shami has made into Top 10 rankings of bowlers in Test cricket for the first time in his career.

Shami who ranks 7 now has rating points of 790 after his career-best 7/58 performance in the just-concluded test match against the Bangladeshi side. The 790 rating points is the third-best for an Indian pacer after Kapil Dev's 877 and Jasprit Bumrah's 832.

As Ishant Sharma moves into the Top 20 list and is at rank number 20 after 3/51 against Bangladesh. Ravichandran Ashwin's 85/5 helps him be in the Top 10 list. Umesh Yadav, who came in as Jaspit Bumrah's replacement ranks at 22 after a 98/4 against&nbsp;

India's win over Bangladesh: Updates in ICC Test Rankings, career-milestones and ICC Test World Championship

England all-rounder <a href="https://www.wionews.com/photos/englands-ben-stokes-travels-rocky-road-en-route-success-245836">Ben Stokes</a> who displayed a match-winning performance against Australia in the third Test of the ongoing Ashes, has moved to his career-best ranking in the ICC Test batsmen rankings.

The rankings which were released on Tuesday, saw Stokes moving to the 13th position in the batsmen rankings.

He has advanced 13 slots to take the position.

In the all-rounder rankings, he has moved to the second spot. He has advanced 44 points after the Headingly Test and is now on 411 points, only 22 behind Windies skipper Jason Holder.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli sits on the pole position in the batsmen rankings with 910 points.

England skipper Joe Root has also advanced to the seventh position in the batsmen rankings.

Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane who scored 183 runs in the first Test against Windies, has moved to the 11th position.

Jasprit Bumrah has entered the top ten bowler rankings for the first time after picking up a five-wicket haul against West Indies.

Bumrah currently stands at the seventh position with 774 points.

Cook had begun the year in 15th position, while he had entered the Ashes in 10th position.

After registering his career-best 243 runs in the third and final test match against Sri Lanka, Indian Cricket Team skipper Virat Kohli on Thursday moved three places up to grab the second spot in the ICC Test rankings.&nbsp;

Kohli&#39;s first innings knock was followed by another half century, 50 runs, in the second innings taking his total to 610 in the three-match series against Sri Lanka which India won 1-0. The first and third test ended in draws in Kolkata and New Delhi respectively.

The right-handed batsman had slammed back-to-back double centuries and also registered three-figure scores in three consecutive matches.

Kohli, who is currently holding No. 1 spot in ODI&#39;s and T20&#39;s, will now be eying the chance of reaching the zenith in the test format also.&nbsp;As per official record, Australian Captain Steve Smith is on 938 points while Kohli is on 893 points, just 45 points away from surpassing Smith&#39;s record.&nbsp;

The Indian skipper moved three places up to grab the second spot

After registering his career-best 243 runs in the third and final test match against Sri Lanka, Indian Cricket Team skipper Virat Kohli on Thursday moved three places up to grab the second spot in the ICC Test rankings. Kohli's first innings knock was followed by another half century, 50 runs, in the second innings taking his total to 610 in the three-match series against Sri Lanka which India won 1-0. The first and third test ended in draws in Kolkata and New Delhi respectively. The right-handed batsman had slammed back-to-back double centuries and also registered three-figure scores in three consecutive matches. Kohli, who is currently holding No. 1 spot in ODI's and T20's, will now be eying the chance of reaching the zenith in the test format also. As per official record, Australian Captain Steve Smith is on 938 points while Kohli is on 893 points, just 45 points away from surpassing Smith's record. Before this Test, only 11 points separated second-ranked Cheteshwar Pujara from fifth-ranked Kohli. Among other Indians, opener Murali Vijay at 25th position and middle-order batsman Rohit Sharma at 40th place, are the other batsmen who performed well to move up.
