<p>The telescope underwent the fifth and final servicing in 2009 by the Space Shuttle Atlantis&nbsp;during&nbsp;which six gyroscopes&nbsp;were fitted&nbsp;into the spacecraft.</p>

<p>Three&nbsp;of them&nbsp;remain operational, including the one&nbsp;facing issues currently&nbsp;and providing inaccurate readings.</p>

Hubble telescope captures spiral galaxy right after Supernova explosion

<p>James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) may be all that's bling right now but Hubble Space Telescope is like that dependable team player who does perfect work silently. It has been doing that for decades now and it never fails to amaze even when JWST tends to steal more limelight these days.</p>

<p>The Hubble space telescope has now clicked a beautiful galaxy, a 'jellyfish' galaxy. It is, like any other galaxy, a huge light-year-spanning, star-forming, behemoth. But when looked upon from our home planet, it looks like a cute jellyfish swirling around in nothingness of space.</p>

<p>The image has been posted by NASA on its 'nasahubble' Instagram page.</p>

<p>The 'jellyfish' galaxy is actually named J0206. It is a whopping 700 million lightyears away from Earth and is located in the Aquarius constellation. The tentacles of this galaxy are long tendrils that are following the galaxy's star-forming disc.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Galaxies in galaxy clusters are separated by an 'intra-cluster medium'. This medium is superheated plasma. As galaxies move through this intra-cluster medium, the plasma strips gas away from the galaxy forming the long 'tentacles' as we see in the image.</p>

<p>"...A spiral galaxy that is tilted partially toward us. Its inner disk is bright and colorful, with bluish and reddish spots of star formation throughout the arms. An outer disk of pale, dim dust surrounds it. It has many arms, which are being pulled away from the disk, down and to the right. They stretch into long, faint trails that cross the image. The background is dark and mostly empty, with three bright stars," reads part of the Instagram post.</p>

Even when James Webb Space Telescope has taken centrestage lately, Hubble is dutifully revolving around the Earth and clicking real stars as opposed to paparazzi here on Earth.</p>

<p>So what's the latest spectacle? It's a celestial object around 390 million light-years from Earth. The celestial body has been designated Z229-15 and it can be found in constellation Lyra. Z229-15 is a galaxy.</p>

<p>The space agency has shared the beautiful pic on Instagram.</p>

<p>"Material sucking into the black hole is drawn into a swirling disk, which gets so hot that it releases a large amount of energy – hence the bright central region seen in this #HubbleFriday image," says NASA in its post</p>

<p>"This region is known as an active galactic nuclei, or AGN. Z 229-15 is also classified as a quasar, which is a type of AGN that are both extremely bright and distant. Often, an AGN is so bright that the rest of the galaxy cannot be seen; however, Seyfert galaxies like this one are active galaxies that host bright AGNs while remaining observable," it adds.</p>

NASA posts fantastic image of a 'cosmic keyhole'

<p>The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has released detailed views of the DART impact after James Webb and Hubble telescopes on Thursday revealed their first images of a spacecraft being smashed into an asteroid.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA recently celebrated the success of an experiment, which was the world's first-ever in-space test for planetary defence. NASA's Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) impact aimed to deflect an asteroid that poses no threat to Earth. The process further modified the object's orbit.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The&nbsp;space&nbsp;rock Dimorphos helped people on Earth to build the&nbsp;ability to defend themselves against a potential future life-threatening asteroid.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Alan Fitzsimmons, who is an astronomer at Queen's University Belfast, said that the initial images showed matter spraying out over thousands of kilometres, and the James Webb and Hubble images "zoom in much closer".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Fitzsimmons is involved in observations with the ATLAS project. He said, "It really is quite spectacular." Notably, the observations from the space telescopes will help reveal how much matter sprayed from the asteroid, as well as the nature of its surface.&nbsp;</p>

<p>These observations are also the first time when Webb and Hubble simultaneously observed the same celestial target.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Nelson said, "All of humanity eagerly awaits the discoveries to come from Webb, Hubble, and our ground-based telescopes – about the DART mission and beyond."&nbsp;</p>

Webb and Hubble's telescopes reveal their first pics of DART impact

<p>That the Universe is filled with wonders is no longer that wonderful a statement because everyone knows this. But it continues to amaze us nonetheless. With thousands of telescopes pointed at space, we come across magnificent discoveries.</p>

<p>James Webb Space Telescope may have now become humanity's primary eye in the sky but noone can sideline Hubble Space Telescope which is still clicking photos of the endless expanse even after so many decades. It has clicked a beautiful new image.</p>

<p>The image shows two galaxies. These two galaxies look as if they are colliding or overlapping. The result is a marvellous image.</p>

<p>Although the two galaxies appear to be overlapping, they are not actually so. They look like they are overlapping but just because how Hubble is looking at it. These are in reality, two separate galaxies.</p>

<p>These two galaxies have been designated SDSS J115331 and LEDA 2073461 respectively. Both of these galaxies are a billion light years away from Earth.</p>

<p>The two galaxies were classified as part of Galaxy Zoo Project. This is a massive citizen science project which lets thousands of volunteers across the world classify galaxies. Such a classification is done by using images taken by robotic telescopes.</p>

James Webb Space Telescope may have now become humanity's primary eye in the sky but noone can sideline Hubble Space Telescope which is still clicking photos of the endless expanse even after so many decades. It has clicked a beautiful new image. The image shows two galaxies. These two galaxies look as if they are colliding or overlapping. The result is a marvellous image. Although the two galaxies appear to be overlapping, they are not actually so. They look like they are overlapping but just because how Hubble is looking at it. These are in reality, two separate galaxies. These two galaxies have been designated SDSS J115331 and LEDA 2073461 respectively. Both of these galaxies are a billion light years away from Earth. The two galaxies were classified as part of Galaxy Zoo Project. This is a massive citizen science project which lets thousands of volunteers across the world classify galaxies. <p>A large celestial body having huge amount of mass, a galaxy for example, has an effect on the spacetime fabric around it. The massive gravity ‘bends’ the fabric of the space. This is called gravitational lensing. Due to this bending, some rays of light emanating from the same object cause the lensing (or an object placed behind the object causing the lensing) travel along the bent space-time fabric. This forms a mirror image of, either the same object or the object behind it.<br />
In this case, the mirror-image is of the same galaxy.<br />
Another feature of such a lensing is that it magnifies the image of the object. This makes it&nbsp;easier for us to study the celestial body in detail.</p>

<p>As much as we love our Milky Way Galaxy, it is on collision course with an even bigger galaxy. Andromeda galaxy is racing towards Milky Way&nbsp;at an unimaginable speed.</p>

<p>We can breathe a little sigh of relief though because the galactic collision will take place billions of years from now. This collision of galaxies may not be as apocalyptic as movies have us believe. But immense gravities of Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies will tear material out from the cosmic dance partners. After a merger process that will last billions of years still, both galaxies will lose their spiral shapes and the resulting 'Milkdromeda' galaxy will have an elliptical shape just like NGC 474 which Hubble has clicked! &nbsp;</p>

Humanity's very firt eye in the sky has been steadfast in sending pictures of far corners of space for last three decades. And to commemorate its 32nd year of operation, a unique image has been released.</p>

<p>The image shows five galaxies that are eventually going to collide. The galaxies are so closely situated (well in galactic terms) that it in itself is a thing of wonder.</p>

<p>This group of galaxies is called Hickson Compact Group 40. These galaxies are situated unusually close.</p>

<p>These galaxies are on a collision course, about a billion years from now, all five galaxies would collide to form a single elliptical galaxy.</p>

<p>So what are the types of galaxies present in the photo?</p>

<p>We can see three spiral galaxies, marked by orange colour visible due to space dust. The one in the middle is an elliptical galaxy. The one in the bottom right corner is a lenticular (lens-like) galaxy.</p>

<p>This galactic huddle is sitting somewhere in the direction of constellation Hydra.</p>

<p>NASA's Hubble space telescope has detected the light of a star that existed within the first billion years after the universe’s birth in the big bang, astronomers said on Wednesday (March 30). It is said to be the farthest individual star ever seen to date.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA informed that the newly discovered star, called "Earendel". Scientists have said that the star is so far away its light has taken 12.9 billion years to reach Earth, when the universe was seven per cent its current age.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"We almost didn’t believe it at first, it was so much farther than the previous most-distant, highest redshift star," said astronomer Brian Welch of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Welch is the lead author of the paper describing the discovery, which is published in the March 30 journal Nature.&nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA has informed that the discovery was made from data collected during Hubble's RELICS (Reionization Lensing Cluster Survey) programme. The programme was led by co-author Dan Coe at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI).&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per NASA, the previous single-star record holder was detected by Hubble in 2018. That star existed when the universe was about four billion years old, or 30 per cent of its current age. At a time that astronomers referred to as "redshift 1.5."&nbsp;</p>

<p>NASA revealed that scientists use the word "redshift" because as the universe expands, light from distant objects is stretched or "shifted" to longer and redder wavelengths as it travels toward us.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, talking about the newly-detected star, NASA said that Earendel's light came from an era called redshift 6.2.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Welch said, "Normally at these distances, entire galaxies look like small smudges, the light from millions of stars blending together."&nbsp;</p>

<p>After he studied the galaxy in detail, Welch found that one feature is an extremely magnified star that he called Earendel, which means "morning star" in Old English.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Welch added that Earendel existed so long ago that it may not have had the same raw materials as the stars that exist today.</p>

<p>"It's like we've been reading a really interesting book, but we started with the second chapter, and now we will have a chance to see how it all got started," he said.</p>

<p>Astronomers intend to gaze at the star using the James Webb Space Telescope, Hubble's successor, which is highly sensitive to infrared light from the oldest celestial bodies, in order to confirm Earendel's age, mass and radius.</p>

<p>It has been hypothesized that primordial stars were made solely from the elements forged after the Big Bang: hydrogen, helium and trace amounts of lithium, and should be more massive than stars that exist today.&nbsp;</p>

<p>It remains to be seen if Earendel belongs to these so-called "Population III" stars, but while the probability is small, it is enticing, said Welch.&nbsp;</p>

By the looks of it, scientists say that NGC 2444 (galaxy in left corner) is winning the tug-of-war and drawing material out of the right-hand side galaxy.</p>

This has caused newly minted stars from the right-hand side galaxy to leave their places and get arranged in a starnge triangle shape. The triangle is still witnessing a star-birthing frenzy because the right-hand side galaxy has a lot of gas, a necessary fuel needed for birth of new stars.</p>

<p>Hubble Space Telescope is fully functional again. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has been able to take care of the glitches and the aging space telescope's instruments are online again.</p>

<p>In October this year, Hubble had developed a glitch with synchronisation of its internal communication. Because of this, all four of its science instruments went offline.</p>

<p>The first instrument to come online was Advanced Camera for Surveys (ACS) on November 7. At the time, remaining instruments went in a 'Safe Mode' for protection.</p>

<p>But earlier this week the space telscope became fully functional.</p>

This forms electrons that re-emit the absorbed energy in the form of infrared light. Human eye cannot see infrared light. And thus good-ol Hubble comes into play.</p>

<p>Hubble's unique vantage point in space gives it a unique advantage when it comes to clicking pictures of celestial bodies. Needless to say, its vast array of cameras and lenses makes it capable of perceiving light not ordinarily visible to human eye.</p>

<p>Hubble has been facing trouble since October 23 due to synchronisation errors. NASA says that synchronisation messages are necessary to provide “information the instruments use to correctly respond to data requests and commands.”</p>

<p>Scientists were able to rectify the problem after October 23 glitch by resetting the instruments on the space telescope but the problem occurred again on October 25.</p>

<p>Hubble Space Telescope was launched in 1990 to eliminate problems we face in observing the universe from the Earth's surface.</p>
