Saudi Arabia is investigating how Houthi drones and missiles penetrated its air defences and struck King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh. The devastating attack killed at least 14 people and injured more than 300, according to Saudi authorities. Footage showed passengers taking cover as smoke and flames filled parts of the terminal.
The Houthis claimed another attack targeting the airport on Monday, while Saudi Arabia said it intercepted a ballistic missile aimed at the capital. Investigators are examining whether drones were launched first to complicate interception of cruise and ballistic missiles.
The attacks raise urgent questions about the limits of expensive air-defence systems, the challenge of stopping coordinated strikes and the threat to civilian infrastructure.

The Houthis have made a major advance along Yemen’s Red Sea coast, capturing the strategic port city of Mocha (Mokha) and moving closer to the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, one of the world’s most important maritime chokepoints. The development could give the Iran-backed group greater leverage over a key route linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden and the wider global shipping network.

Houthi missiles and drones now threaten Red Sea shipping

The Saudi-Houthi conflict has taken a dramatic turn; air raid sirens sounded in Mecca, Islam's holiest city, for the first time since 2017. Saudi Arabia says it intercepted a Houthi drone before it reached Mecca's airspace, a claim the Houthis dismissed as a "worn-out lie," insisting they never targeted the city and blaming Riyadh for launching dozens of strikes across Yemen. Adding to the chaos, the East-West Pipeline remains disrupted after a drone attack, putting 4 million barrels a day at risk.
