Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday (May 04) promised Israel would strike back at both Yemen’s Houthi rebels and their Iranian backers after a missile landed near Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion Airport, injuring six people. “Israel will respond to the Huthi attack against our main airport AND, at a time and place of our choosing, to their Iranian terror masters,” Netanyahu wrote on X, reposting a comment by President Donald Trump. “It will not happen in one bang, but there will be many bangs,” he added. Saudi Arabia was trying to negotiate an exit from the military conflict in Yemen, after failing in its decade-long effort to contain the rise of the Iran-backed Houthis, who now control the capital Sanaa. That's when the October 7 attacks on Israel happened in 2023, followed by the Israeli invasion of Gaza. That stalled Saudi-Houthi peace talks.

US Houthi war: US "continuous operations" against Iran-backed Houthis.

In a major security lapse, US President Donald Trump's National Security Advisor Mike Waltz mistakenly added The Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg to a "secret" group chat where the officials were discussing the Houthi attack plan.
The huge security error triggered massive criticism from the Democrats, raising questions about security protocols in the US government.
However, according to an internal investigation, Waltz inadvertently saved Goldberg's phone number under the contact of Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications Brian Hughes, the Guardian reported.

The Signal group titled "Houthi PC small group" had several Trump officials, including Tulsi Gabbard, Pete Hegseth, Mike Waltz, and mistakenly Goldberg.

How was the error made?

It all started when The Atlantic editor-in-chief Goldberg emailed the Trump campaign last October, according to a Guardian report.
Goldberg emailed the campaign about a story that criticised Trump for his attitude towards wounded service members, three people briefed on the internal investigation said.
To push back against the story, the campaign enlisted the help of Waltz. Goldberg's email was forwarded to then-Trump spokesperson Brian Hughes, who then copied and pasted the content of the email, including the signature block with Goldberg's phone number into a text message that he sent to Waltz so that he could be briefed on the forthcoming story.

What report claims
However, Waltz did not ultimately call Goldberg, the people said, but ended up saving Goldberg's number in his iPhone, under the contact card for Hughes, now the spokesperson for the national security advisor.
A day after that Goldberg story was published, Waltz appeared on CNN on October 22, to defend Trump.
“Don’t take it from me, take it from the 13 Abbey Gate Gold Star families, some of whom stood on a stage in front of a 30,000-person crowd and said how he helped them heal,” Waltz said.
The number was inadvertently saved during a "contact suggestion update" by Waltz's iPhone, which according to one person, is a function where an iPhone algorithm adds a previously unknown number to an existing contact that it detects may be related.

World: The Signal group titled "Houthi PC small group" had several Trump officials, including Tulsi Gabbard, Pete Hegseth, Mike Waltz, and mistakenly Goldberg.

Also read: Signal chat row: Pentagon launches probe into Pete Hegseth over leak of sensitive military information The Signal group titled "Houthi PC small group" had several Trump officials, including Tulsi Gabbard, Pete Hegseth, Mike Waltz, and mistakenly Goldberg. What report claims However, Waltz did not ultimately call Goldberg, the people said, but ended up saving Goldberg's number in his iPhone, under the contact card for Hughes, now the spokesperson for the national security advisor. US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (March 26) insisted that there was nothing in the chat that was "compromised", adding that the attack on Houthi was successful.
Trump during a phone interview on "The Vince Show" stressed that the Signal chat leak had no impact on the attack.
“There weren’t details, and there was nothing in there that compromised, and it had no impact on the attack, which was very successful,” Trump said.

Trump spoke at the interview after The Atlantic magazine published the alleged full transcript of a group chat inadvertently shared with one of its journalists by senior US national security officials, detailing plans for an imminent attack on Yemen.
“It was a very, very successful attack,” Trump went on in the morning interview.
He further called it a "technical error" than a breach of classified information.

“I think we’ll get to the bottom of it very quickly. And it’s, it’s really not a big deal,” he said.
Trump intel officials are currently testifying before a House panel after more messages were published by The Atlantic.
Democratic Connecticut Rep. Jim Himes said that the US troops could have been killed due to the Signal chat leak.
"“Everyone here knows that the Russians or the Chinese could have gotten all of that information, and they could have passed it on to the Houthis, who easily could have repositioned weapons and altered their plans to knock down planes or sink ships,” he said.
