HBO is cancelling its teen comedy 'Betty'. The comedy, whic is about a group of skateboarders that is based on Crystal Moselle’s 2018 indie darling Skate Kitchen, has been canceled after two seasons on the premium cable network, confirm reports.

HBO has pulled the plug on ‘The Days of Abandonment’ starring Natalie Portman. It was based on Elena Ferrante’s best-selling novel.

In a statement, HBO said, “Due to unforeseen personal reasons, Natalie Portman has stepped down from HBO Films’ Days of Abandonment prior to the start of filming. Unfortunately, the production will not move forward. We are very sorry we won’t be able to bring this beautiful story to the screen with our talented writer/director and cast. According to The Hollywood Reporter, in compliance with industry guidelines, the COVID positive member is currently in isolation, and close contacts will be required to quarantine.&nbsp;

The member had tested positive after rigorous testing was implemented for all production employees. Production will resume on Wednesday after a two-day pause.&nbsp;

The famous author of the A Song of Fire and Ice fantasy series just signed another deal to develop more programming for HBO and its streaming service HBO Max. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the deal is worth somewhere in the mid-to-high, eight-figure range.

Martin’s first deal with HBO in 2007 was a licensing agreement for his A Song of Fire and Ice novels. That fateful interaction led to the creation of Game of Thrones—HBO's biggest and most awarded series of all time.

Though that series wrapped up in 2019, HBO has since announced five Game of Thrones prequels in various stages of development. They include the loosely-titled projects 9 Voyages, Flea Bottom, 10,000 Ships, and another based off of Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg — a trio of fantasy novellas set in the same world as the A Song of Ice and Fire novels.

George RR Martin signs another massive deal with HBO over Game of Thrones content

Craig "muMs" Grant, known for his role of Arnold 'Poet'&nbsp;Jackson on HBO's Oz, has died at the age of 52. The actor and writer died on Wednesday, a representative for Grant told&nbsp;PEOPLE in a statement.

"We are heartbroken over the loss of one of the most genuine, caring, loving souls we have ever had the pleasure of representing," the statement reads. "muMs was more than our client, he was our dear friend. We all just lost a phenomenal man."

According to his rep, Grant was filming a recurring role on Starz' Hightown in Wilmington, North Carolina, at the time of his death and was scheduled to travel to Atlanta to finish to wrap on a recurring arc on the BET+ series All the Queen's Men.

Born and raised in New York City, Grant started his career as a part of the critically acclaimed Nuyorican Poetry Slam Team.

He went on to become an active member of the LAByrinth Theater Company alongside the late Philip Seymour Hoffman, who once said that his writing was "Shakespearean" in its complexity and richness. While working with LAByrinth, Grant staged an autobiographical one-man show titled A Sucker Emcee, which featured hip-hop and slam poetry based on his personal upbringing.

On television, Grant worked on a myriad of shows including Spike Lee's She's Gotta Have It, Chapelle's Show, The Sopranos, Luke Cage, Nurse Jackie and High Maintenance. He appeared on all six seasons of Oz as Poet, a heroin addict imprisoned for armed robbery and attempted murder.

In addition to TV, Grant's film credits include the Safdie brothers' Good Time, Alejandro G. Iñárritu's Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) and Steven Soderbergh's Side Effects.

WarnerMedia said in a statement the documentary would offer "an unprecedented, sweeping portrait of New Yorkers as they rebuild and rebound, from a devastating terrorist attack through the ongoing global pandemic."

It added that the documentary will be released "later this year," without specifying a date.

It will air on HBO and its streaming service HBO Max.

Lee earlier made a documentary for HBO on Hurricane Katrina. "When the Levees Broke" was released in 2006.

HBO has announced a documentary on filmmaker Woody Allen that will look into the story behind the sexual abuse allegations against him involving his daughter Dylan Farrow. 
 
Titled 'Allen v Farrow', the four-part documentary hails from investigative filmmakers Kirby Dick, Amy Ziering and Amy Herdy, HBO said in a statement. It will premiere on HBO on February 21.

Kidman manages to ace all these emotions with her facial expressions. Another addition to the promising cast is Huge Grant, who is known for his roles in 'Notting Hill', 'Bridget Jones's Diary', 'Four Weddings And A Funeral' and manages to be as charming as ever. We start seeing him more from the second episode onwards and he plays his part beautifully to make this psychological thriller more nerve-wracking.

The remaining cast members of the series such as Noah Jupe, Lily Rabe, Edgar Ramirez, Matilda De Angelis and Fala Chen also play their parts well and make this thriller an interesting watch.

The "self-help" guru of a group called Nxivm has been&nbsp;convicted of running a&nbsp;cult-like organisation of sex slaves on Tuesday.

Keith Raniere, 60, was convicted on multiple accounts such as&nbsp;racketeering, sex trafficking, and forced labor conspiracy. He has also been fined $1.75 million.

Followers signed up for $5,000, five-day self-help courses, but some were then financially and sexually exploited and forced to follow a restrictive diet, as Raniere,&nbsp;known as "Vanguard", exerted control, his six-week trial heard.

He established a faction within the group called DOS, a pyramid structure in which the women were "slaves" and "Grand Master" Raniere sat at the top.

The "slaves" were made to have sex with Raniere, hand over personal information, and compromising photos, and some of the women were branded like cattle as other members held them down.&nbsp;

Raniere was convicted in June 2019 on all seven charges brought against him, including racketeering, sex trafficking, extortion, criminal conspiracy, and the sexual exploitation of a 15-year-old girl.

Verdict

"It is our sincere hope that today's sentence does deliver some measure of justice for those victims who suffered in immeasurable and numerous ways," acting US&nbsp;Attorney for the Eastern District of New York Seth DuCharme said following the verdict.

"Certainly the judge's sentence, which in effect incapacitates Keith&nbsp;Raniere&nbsp;for the rest of his life, should hopefully give them some sense of security and should stand as a warning to others who would participate in similar like conduct that when justice catches up with you - as it did today - it is severe. Keith&nbsp;Raniere&nbsp;will not be able to victimise people anymore after today's sentence, and we're very grateful for that."

Lawyers for&nbsp;Raniere&nbsp;countered that he maintained his "complete innocence" and was the victim of an "unfair trial." They requested a sentence of no more than 15 years in prison.

Jurors convicted&nbsp;Raniere&nbsp;in June 2019 of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, possession of child pornography and other crimes, following extensive testimony from former NXIVM members.

Prosecutors said&nbsp;Raniere&nbsp;created a secret sorority within NXIVM called DOS, where female "slaves" turned over nude photos and other compromising materials that could be used for blackmail if they tried to leave.

More than 50 people wrote letters to Garaufis urging leniency for&nbsp;Raniere. Many said NXIVM classes, which could cost thousands of dollars, had greatly improved their lives.

Heiress&nbsp;

The dramatic story has been the subject of two screen adaptions: HBO's recently released "The Vow" docu-series and "Escaping the Nxivm&nbsp;Cult," a 2019 Lisa Robinson film focused on the testimony of a mother working to save her daughter from the organization.

Addressing the court Tuesday, Raniere said he was "deeply sorry" for the "pain and anger" that his victims had expressed but maintained his innocence.

"I'm not remorseful over the charges. Those are not right," he added.

Five other people were charged in the case, and all of them pleaded guilty.

German-born American actress Allison Mack,&nbsp;known for her role in "Smallville", admitted to two counts of racketeering in April 2019.

The heiress of the Canadian drinks empire Seagram, Clare Bronfman, was sentenced last month after also pleading guilty.

The 41-year-old was accused of using more than $100 million of her $2.6 billion estimated net worth to fund the group and&nbsp;got more than six years in jail.

Following Raniere's conviction, New York prosecutor Richard Donoghue said the proceedings "revealed that Raniere, who portrayed himself as a savant and a genius, was in fact, a master manipulator, a con-man and the crime boss of a&nbsp;cult-like organization."

Prosecutors had called for a life sentence, accusing Raniere of a "total denial of culpability."

Citing post-conviction calls and emails, the prosecution said Raniere presented his organization as a "good" thing, wondering "who will carry forth this burning torch of light?"

The accolades were especially gratifying following questions about what HBO would do once megahit 'Game of Thrones' ended in 2019, Casey Bloys, HBO programming president, said in an interview. 
"This was a really nice way to answer that question," he said. 
 
Bloys also said the network succeeded by staying aware of growing competition "but not distracted by it."

The Pop network scored best comedy for the sixth and final season of "Schitt`s Creek," a series about a once-wealthy family forced to live in a rundown motel in an out-of-the-way town. Filmed in Toronto, the show aired on the CBC network in Canada.

"We just continue to play our game and focus on shows we are proud of, and work with people we believe in," he said. Netflix's awards included best supporting drama actress for Julia Garner in 'Ozark'. The Apple TV+ subscription streaming service secured its first Emmy for Billy Crudup's supporting role in 'The Morning Show' as a manipulative executive at a news network rocked by a sexual harassment scandal. The Pop network scored best comedy for the sixth and final season of "Schitt`s Creek," a series about a once-wealthy family forced to live in a rundown motel in an out-of-the-way town. Filmed in Toronto, the show aired on the CBC network in Canada. "Thanks to CBC and Pop for broadcasting this without hesitation," creator and star Daniel Levy said as he accepted his award. The 'Schitt's Creek' honors also were a victory for Netflix. The series has streamed on Netflix since 2017, helping to boost the audience. Eugene Levy, who won best comedy actor, thanked Netflix for "the spark that seemed to start everything" for the show.

HBO sweeps TV's Emmy Awards, Apple nabs first trophy

Netflix dominated the nomination list as Emmy Awards 2020 announced its list of nominees on Tuesday morning. The award ceremony will take place on September 20 and Jimmy Kimmel will host the event. 
 
OTT platform Netflix and HBO's 'Watchmen' featured prominently in the nomination list this year. Netflix earned as many as 160 nominations, the highest that any OTT platform has earned in the history of the Emmys.&nbsp;

In the Best Actress category, Jennifer Anniston got a nod in Best Actress (Drama) category for 'The Morning Show' for the first time in 11 years.&nbsp; She is pitted against heaby weights likes Olivia Colman for 'Crown', Sandra Oh for 'Killing Eve', Zendaya for 'Euphoria' and others.

HBO boasts 140 million subscribers globally, mostly through pay television services such as DirecTV and Comcast Corp, the company has said. At least 5 million of its subscribers are digital customers in the United States.

Greenblatt said AT&amp;T would offer "incentives for customers that will bring them into HBO Max, hopefully right away." He said details would be announced later.

AT&amp;T has said it has more than 170 million direct customer relationships through TV, phone and broadband services. It also operates 5,500 retail stores.

WarnerMedia is the company previously known as Time Warner, the owner of HBO, CNN, the Warner Bros TV and movie studios, and other entertainment properties. AT&amp;T purchased Time Warner last year.

Elliott Management Corp, which disclosed a large stake in AT&amp;T earlier this month, has argued that AT&amp;T has "failed to articulate a clear strategic rationale" for the purchase.

AT&amp;T executives remain committed to a big push into entertainment under Chief Operating Officer John Stankey, Greenblatt said.

"I have nothing but 100% confidence from my management and AT&amp;T that this is the direction to go," he said.

"The company used to be very siloed," he added. "Now with John Stankey running the whole show, now that we are all one company, there is an enormous amount of collaboration."

HBO Max will debut in the United States. The company has plans to expand to international markets over the next few years, Greenblatt said.

WarnerMedia plans to unveil more details about its strategy at an Oct. 29 event for investors.

"You will see at that point the real depths to which this company has gone and committed to this," Greenblatt said. "They're really in it to win it."
