Hollywood star Brad Pitt has compared the infamous Manson family murders, which took place in 1969, to the 2017 Harvey Weinstein scandal, saying they rattled and changed the course of Hollywood in the same way. 
 
It has been 50 years since actor Sharon Tate was murdered by criminal Charles Manson`s followers. While promoting the film recently, Pitt and DiCaprio opened up about the massive impact the Manson family murders had on Hollywood and the parallels that can be seen today.&nbsp; 
 
Even though the murder took place about five years before DiCaprio`s birth, the Oscar-winning actor shared that his parents told him how Tate`s death affected the perception of Hollywood`s "Golden Age." 
 
"When my parents described it, it was as the end of this idealized revolution," he told The Sunday Times in an interview published over the weekend. "My parents are still hippies, but it was the loss of this dream. As director Quentin Tarantino describes, you sort of portray this utopia, but there is mildew around the canvas that brought the darkness of humanity into play and ended a lot of my parents` hopes for how they could infuse that `love and peace` ideology into the rest of the world. It all sort of crashed and ended so much that some talk of it as a conspiracy. It was the total end of an era--immediately," he added. 
 
Pitt, who was about 5 years old at the time of Tate`s death, also weighed in."People started locking doors again. We were coming off a tumultuous decade of assassinations and the free-love and civil rights movements, and, as I understand it, there was still hope. But when this hit? And even rich white celebrities were in danger? No one was safe. Even people living the dream," he said.

While `Once Upon a Time in Hollywood` is Tarantino`s ninth film, it`s his first film made without Weinstein as a producer. The two have collaborated in the past on several projects. 
 
Weinstein has been accused of sexual misconduct by several women over the years. He has denied any allegations of non-consensual sex levelled against him. 
 
Weinstein was indicted in New York last year on charges of rape in the first and third degree, as well as criminal sexual act in the first degree. He pleaded not guilty in June 2018, and his trial is now set for September 9.&nbsp;

As former media mogul Harvey Wesintein’s rape trial continues in its first leg, four men and three women were chosen Thursday as jurors. The judge presiding over the selection told the jurors to not use the case to make a broader statement on the #MeToo movement but to judge it purely on evidence.&nbsp;

"This trial is not a referendum on the #MeToo movement," Justice James Burke told the potential jurors on Thursday. "You must decide this case on the evidence."

As disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein prepares for his sexual misconduct trial starting in New York on Monday, here is a look at the women at the center of one of the last decade's most explosive stories. 
 
- The accusers - 
 
More than 80 women, including Angelina Jolie and Ashley Judd, have accused the fallen producer of sexual harassment and assault but&nbsp;charges have only been brought relating to two. 
 
Mimi Haleyi, a former production assistant, alleges that Weinstein forcibly performed oral sex on her in his New York apartment in July 2006. 
 
"I told him no, no, no, but he insisted," Haleyi told reporters in 2017, recalling that she was menstruating at the time of the alleged assault. 
 
The second alleged victim is anonymous. She says Weinstein, 67, raped her in a New York hotel room in March 2013. 
 
Weinstein's defense team have presented emails which they say show the woman had a consensual relationship with her alleged attacker for several years after the alleged attack. 
 
- Other alleged victims - 
 
Prosecutors will call "The Sopranos" actress Annabella Sciorra to testify. She helped trigger the #MeToo movement when she told The New Yorker magazine that Weinstein raped her at her Manhattan home over the winter of 1993-94.&nbsp; 
 
Weinstein cannot be charged with raping Sciorra, 59, because the statute of limitations has expired but she is key to prosecutors' attempts to convince the jury&nbsp;that he engaged in predatory sexual behavior.&nbsp;

Illuzzi-Orbon famously led the sex assault probe against former IMF leader Dominique Strauss-Kahn in 2011. The case was eventually abandoned after prosecutors lost faith in the accuser, a New York hotel maid.

She told Reuters "It's really deep in my heart because this film really is an ensemble and so getting to celebrate everybody for me is most important. As a producer, that's why this movie is here today, because of everybody."

SAG AFTRA's president Gabrielle Carteris did double duty leaving the nominations to attend the event honouring women.

"I think what the nominations said was, as a community, we want to hear good stories. We want to hear diverse, good stories, we want to see ourselves reflected on screen and I think that we're seeing that our industry can be successful without being vanilla, that actually our power comes in our ability to reach out and tell all stories," Carteris said.

Reese Witherspoon's production 'Big Little Lies' was up for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series, but that wasn't her only celebration on Wednesday. At the event, she was receiving the Sherry Lansing Leadership award for being a pioneer in the industry.

Witherspoon has, in recent years, become a successful producer in Hollywood with films 'Wild'&nbsp;and 'Gone Girl'&nbsp;and television shows 'Big Little Lies'&nbsp;and 'The Morning Show'. She has also been proactive in the #metoo and Time's Up movement.

She told Reuters "We're seeing a shift in how many women are hired behind the scenes and how much more diversity and inclusion there is on screen, which is so important but this is just the beginning. With any movement, you have to just keep talking, keep gathering, keep meeting with each other, keep collaborating, and we really do support each other. There are so many women I'm seeing here today who are my dear friends on and off camera, always DM-ing each other and saying 'You're doing amazing!' so it's really important to have that support system."

Ronan Farrow, whose investigative journalism broke the Harvey Weinstein story creating an outpouring of allegations by women in Hollywood, was honoured with the Equity in Entertainment Award, which was presented to him by Gretchen Carlson. He&nbsp;sued former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes for sexual harassment a year before the Weinstein allegations came out.

"It's paramount that men are included in this conversation," said Witherspoon, adding "This isn't about creating a matriarchy, this is about gender balance finally in this world and I think it's a 50-50 population for a reason. We need men to take up these causes and really demand diversity and inclusion in their movies and to work with more female directors and writers and I think we're seeing that happen, we definitely are."

Theron said, "I think men are just as emotionally distraught by all of these issues because it doesn't just affect women, for them it affects their daughters, their sisters, their mothers, this is about all of us, right? We don't want any of this stuff to happen to anybody in our family and so I know so many men that don't want this just as much as women don't and we need to be together in this fight. Yeah. It's just the right thing to do."

A New York judge has denied Harvey Weinstein`s request to dismiss two predatory sexual assault charges, ahead of the former Hollywood producer`s trial in January. 
 
The decision released on Wednesday by Justice James Burke of the State Supreme Court in Manhattan is a victory for prosecutors who have charged Weinstein with five sex crimes, including rape. 
 
Lawyers for Weinstein declined to comment in an email sent by their office. A spokesman for Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance declined to comment. 
 
Weinstein, 67, has pleaded not guilty to charges brought over allegations of sexual misconduct toward two female accusers in 2006 and 2013. 
 
A trial is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2020. Weinstein could face a life sentence if convicted. 
 
Weinstein has also denied allegations by roughly 70 women of sexual misconduct dating back decades, saying any contact was consensual. 
 
In refusing to dismiss the predatory sexual assault charges, Burke rejected Weinstein`s claim that an alleged rape from the winter of 1993-94 occurred too long ago to serve as an "aggravating" and "underlying" crime, as required by state law. 
 
The judge, in the decision dated Nov. 26, also rejected Weinstein`s claims that dismissal was required because he had not been given fair notice of the earlier alleged rape, and because the grand jury that indicted him had been improperly convened. 
 
Prosecutors have said they intend to call the actress Annabella Sciorra, who has appeared in the TV series "The Sopranos" and movies such as "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle," to testify that Weinstein raped her in 1993. 
 
Weinstein cannot be criminally charged with raping Sciorra because the statute of limitations has run out. 
 
Burke also ruled out expert defense testimony on several topics, such as the causes of "original misunderstandings of sexual intentions" and "the phenomenon of `voluntary unwanted sex.`" 
 
He said Weinstein`s lawyers can introduce expert testimony on other topics including how memory works and can be distorted, and whether there is a link been people`s confidence in their memory and the accuracy of that memory.

US actress Rose McGowan filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against Harvey Weinstein, his ex-attorneys and a private intelligence agency, alleging they conspired to discredit her when she accused the disgraced movie mogul of rape.

"This case is about a diabolical and illegal effort by one of America's most powerful men and his representatives to silence sexual assault victims," the suit filed in Los Angeles federal court states.

"And it is about the courageous women and journalists who persisted to reveal the truth."

McGowan alleges that when Weinstein learned in 2016 that she planned to write about the alleged rape said to have taken place in 1997, he unleashed a team of fixers to ensure her story "never saw the light of day, and -- if it did -- that no one would believe her."

"Weinstein's campaign against McGowan and others involved some of the most powerful forces that money could buy," according to the suit. "He enlisted prominent, media-savvy representatives David Boies and Lisa Bloom. He hired the international spy agency, Black Cube."

The suit says Weinstein and his team worked in concert for more than a year to try to silence his victims and journalists reporting on the abuses.

Bloom's attorney Eric George said in a statement to AFP on Wednesday that "it is inexcusable that Ms McGowan chose to include my client in her lawsuit."

"Facts matter," he added. "There is simply no credible factual or legal basis for her claims against my client. We look forward to our day in court to set the record straight."

Attorneys for Weinstein and the other defendants in the suit could not immediately be reached for comment.

McGowan says in her lawsuit that at the time of the alleged rape, she was a budding star with lead roles in two Weinstein-produced films and that she finally ended up agreeing to a settlement as she sought to move on with her career.

Years later, however, she says began working on a memoir -- published last year -- that included details about the alleged abuse and how Weinstein's conduct toward her and others "poisoned the film and television industry."

Apart from McGowan, Weinstein has been accused of sexually assaulting dozens of other women during his decades in the entertainment industry.

In 2018, he was arrested in New York on charges of rape and sexual abuse and is awaiting trial.

As she has to appear on variety magazine’s Power of Women issue, she recalled working with a producer back in 2005 on a crime-thriller called ‘Derailed’.&nbsp;

She was to star opposite Clive Owen in the film. Ahead of the premiere of the film, Harvey met her on the sets of a shoot in London and forced her to wear an ensemble designed by Marchesa clothing line, owned by Weinstein's ex-wife, Georgina Chapman. Jennifer remembers that Marchesa wasn’t as big as it is now. "He came to visit me in London while we were shooting. He’d be like, 'OK, so I’d like you to wear one of these to the premiere,'" Jennifer recalled.&nbsp;

"[Marchesa] wasn’t what it is today. It was not for me. He was like, 'You have to wear the dress,'" she shared. "That was my only bullying. And I was like, 'No, I will not wear the dress.'... What was he going to do? Come over here and make me wear it?!" added Jennifer.&nbsp;

She then remembered that he even projected his "piggish" behaviour. "There was a premiere dinner. I remember I was sitting at the dinner table with Clive, and our producers and a friend of mine was sitting with me. And he literally came to the table and said to my friend: 'Get up!' And I was like, 'Oh my gosh.' And so my friend got up and moved and Harvey sat down," Aniston recalled. "It was just such a level of gross entitlement and piggish behaviour."
