SAG AFTRA's president Gabrielle Carteris did double duty leaving the nominations to attend the event honouring women.

"I think what the nominations said was, as a community, we want to hear good stories. We want to hear diverse, good stories, we want to see ourselves reflected on screen and I think that we're seeing that our industry can be successful without being vanilla, that actually our power comes in our ability to reach out and tell all stories," Carteris said.

Reese Witherspoon's production 'Big Little Lies' was up for Best Ensemble in a Drama Series, but that wasn't her only celebration on Wednesday. At the event, she was receiving the Sherry Lansing Leadership award for being a pioneer in the industry.

Witherspoon has, in recent years, become a successful producer in Hollywood with films 'Wild'&nbsp;and 'Gone Girl'&nbsp;and television shows 'Big Little Lies'&nbsp;and 'The Morning Show'. She has also been proactive in the #metoo and Time's Up movement.

She told Reuters "We're seeing a shift in how many women are hired behind the scenes and how much more diversity and inclusion there is on screen, which is so important but this is just the beginning. With any movement, you have to just keep talking, keep gathering, keep meeting with each other, keep collaborating, and we really do support each other. There are so many women I'm seeing here today who are my dear friends on and off camera, always DM-ing each other and saying 'You're doing amazing!' so it's really important to have that support system."

Ronan Farrow, whose investigative journalism broke the Harvey Weinstein story creating an outpouring of allegations by women in Hollywood, was honoured with the Equity in Entertainment Award, which was presented to him by Gretchen Carlson. He&nbsp;sued former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes for sexual harassment a year before the Weinstein allegations came out.

"It's paramount that men are included in this conversation," said Witherspoon, adding "This isn't about creating a matriarchy, this is about gender balance finally in this world and I think it's a 50-50 population for a reason. We need men to take up these causes and really demand diversity and inclusion in their movies and to work with more female directors and writers and I think we're seeing that happen, we definitely are."

Theron said, "I think men are just as emotionally distraught by all of these issues because it doesn't just affect women, for them it affects their daughters, their sisters, their mothers, this is about all of us, right? We don't want any of this stuff to happen to anybody in our family and so I know so many men that don't want this just as much as women don't and we need to be together in this fight. Yeah. Burke also ruled out expert defense testimony on several topics, such as the causes of "original misunderstandings of sexual intentions" and "the phenomenon of `voluntary unwanted sex.`" 
 
He said Weinstein`s lawyers can introduce expert testimony on other topics including how memory works and can be distorted, and whether there is a link been people`s confidence in their memory and the accuracy of that memory.

US actress Rose McGowan filed a lawsuit on Wednesday against Harvey Weinstein, his ex-attorneys and a private intelligence agency, alleging they conspired to discredit her when she accused the disgraced movie mogul of rape.

"This case is about a diabolical and illegal effort by one of America's most powerful men and his representatives to silence sexual assault victims," the suit filed in Los Angeles federal court states.

"And it is about the courageous women and journalists who persisted to reveal the truth."

"Weinstein's campaign against McGowan and others involved some of the most powerful forces that money could buy," according to the suit. "He enlisted prominent, media-savvy representatives David Boies and Lisa Bloom. He hired the international spy agency, Black Cube."

The suit says Weinstein and his team worked in concert for more than a year to try to silence his victims and journalists reporting on the abuses.

Bloom's attorney Eric George said in a statement to AFP on Wednesday that "it is inexcusable that Ms McGowan chose to include my client in her lawsuit."

"Facts matter," he added. "There is simply no credible factual or legal basis for her claims against my client. We look forward to our day in court to set the record straight."

Attorneys for Weinstein and the other defendants in the suit could not immediately be reached for comment.

McGowan says in her lawsuit that at the time of the alleged rape, she was a budding star with lead roles in two Weinstein-produced films and that she finally ended up agreeing to a settlement as she sought to move on with her career.

Ahead of the premiere of the film, Harvey met her on the sets of a shoot in London and forced her to wear an ensemble designed by Marchesa clothing line, owned by Weinstein's ex-wife, Georgina Chapman. Jennifer remembers that Marchesa wasn’t as big as it is now. "He came to visit me in London while we were shooting. He’d be like, 'OK, so I’d like you to wear one of these to the premiere,'" Jennifer recalled.&nbsp;

"[Marchesa] wasn’t what it is today. It was not for me. He was like, 'You have to wear the dress,'" she shared. "That was my only bullying. And I was like, 'No, I will not wear the dress.'... What was he going to do? Come over here and make me wear it?!" added Jennifer.&nbsp;

She then remembered that he even projected his "piggish" behaviour. "There was a premiere dinner. I remember I was sitting at the dinner table with Clive, and our producers and a friend of mine was sitting with me. And he literally came to the table and said to my friend: 'Get up!' And I was like, 'Oh my gosh.' And so my friend got up and moved and Harvey sat down," Aniston recalled. "It was just such a level of gross entitlement and piggish behaviour."

Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein's bid to move his sex-trial out of Manhattan has been denied by the court. According to the news agency, in a brief ruling on Thursday (local time) an appellate court issued the denial. 
 
The 67-year-old film producer was strongly hoping to avoid the whole 'circus-like atmosphere'&nbsp;trial situation in Manhattan Supreme Court, his lawyers previously said. 
 
He is accused of forcing production assistant Mimi Haleyi for oral sex in 2006 and also raping a longtime lover in a Manhattan hotel in 2013. 
 
Weinstein is set to go to trial in January 2020 for the charges, according to a news agency.

Some senior female executives who have already broken the glass ceiling have been instrumental in accelerating the pace of change.

At the beginning of the week, four major British auditing firms Deloitte, KPMG, PwC and FY announced they had shown the door to members of staff accused of sexual harassment or workplace bullying.

Deloitte alone revealed that it had fired 20 of its partners in Britain over the last four years for bullying and sexual harassment.

"We will fire people for any inappropriate behaviour. No one is protected," Deloitte chief executive David Sproul told the Financial Times.

'The job isn't over yet'&nbsp;

It was the FT that in January revealed the sexual harassment of hostesses at an all-male London charity dinner at the Presidents Club, attended by 360 businessmen and politicians.

Companies whose executives had attended rushed to distance themselves from the event and, within days of the scandal breaking, widespread condemnation led the club to announce its closure.

On Tuesday, Bloomberg reported that one of HSBC'S London-based executives had left the bank after being accused by a younger female staffer of "inappropriate conduct" in a New York hotel bar.

HSBC said in a statement: "An allegation was made against an individual. We dealt with it directly, robustly and appropriately."

In the insurance industry, around 50 companies signed up to a good conduct charter, the Inclusive Behaviours Pledge, to try to counter the problem of harassment.

One of its main backers was Inga Beale, at the time chief executive of Lloyds of London and known as an outspoken advocate for a more welcoming environment for women in business.

She described the charter as a public commitment "to challenge inappropriate behaviour and create an increasingly welcoming and inclusive workplace for the diverse talent powering our sector".

Beale, who became the first woman to head up a major insurance company in 2014, said she was proud of the progress made in this area since the 1980s.

But she cautioned, "...the job isn't over yet".

Allegations included "forced hugs" and forcing people to sit on his knee. The petition was organised by Organise, an online website set up to make it easier to share allegations of harassment.

In October, British fashion tycoon Philip Green was named as the executive who had used the courts to try to stop the publication of allegations of harassment against him by five employees.

Green denied "unlawful sexual or racist behaviour" after Peter Hain, a member of the House of Lords, used parliamentary privilege to name him.

Lord Hain acted after the Daily Telegraph reported the allegations but said a court injunction prevented them from naming the executive concerned.

Hain said he was using the special legal protection he enjoyed when speaking in parliament because the story was "clearly in the public interest".
