Buttler, who watched Brook grow into a first-team player, wishes him good luck in his first assignment as England captain.&nbsp;

“It's going to be a great opportunity for Brooky to be the captain,” Buttler said.&nbsp;

“He is a pretty laid-back character, but I think he has everything in line. He is a really good thinker about it... I'm sure he'll do that his own way, and he'll get a feel for those moments [in games].&nbsp;

“That's what we're encouraging everyone as a side - whether that's a player or a captain - is to try and identify those moments that you think can go a long way to you winning the game and going for it and committing to it,” he continued.

Admitting feeling gutted to miss out on the Australian series, Buttler said his recovery has been slower than expected but looks forward to plenty of cricket that awaits.&nbsp;

With England’s next white-ball assignment being an away tour of the West Indies, Buttler aims to attain full fitness by then.

"It's a bit slower than hoped," Buttler said of his recovery.&nbsp;

"I'm going to be missing the ODI series as well, so that's a shame. But at my age, just got to make sure I get it right. It's obviously a shame to miss some cricket and stuff, but I just want to get it right. There's lots to look forward to in the future.

Addressing the squad announcement, Wright said he is pleased with the final 15 and believes this group can deliver on the bigger stage and help England defend their title.

"We have selected a squad we are confident can go to India and win the World Cup," Luke Wright, England's national selector, said. "We are blessed with an incredibly strong group of white-ball players, which was underlined by the performances in the series win against a very good New Zealand team."

Speaking with Sky Sports recently, Broad said, "If you had asked me a couple of months ago whether I saw an England side - Test, ODI, T20 - without Brook in it, I would have said no. He is such a brilliant player and will be fantastic in the future, but ultimately Stokes is a born match-winner and must come back in."

Speaking on Sky Sports, Atherton said his heart goes out for Brook, but then who else would have been dropped to put Stokes back into the side? Citing examples of all other players in the line-up, Atherton said,

"Harry Brook is the unlucky one," Atherton told Sky Sports News.

"It really is a consequence of the Stokes selection and the fact he has come out of retirement. Then, how do you get him in? They want Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow.

"They have retained faith with Roy and Bairstow at the top of the order, Dawid Malan is cover for the top order there, Liam Livingstone provides cover for Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali in the spin department, so in the end, it is Brook who has given way.

"If you said to the selectors 'Do you want Brook in your team?' they would say yes, but they just don't feel as though they can fit him in," he added.

Ashes, 5th Test: Australia in command as Mitchell Starc triggers England's collapse with four-for on day one

England and Australia are set to lock horns in the fifth and final Test of Ashes 2023, starting on Thursday (July 27) at The Oval, London. Ahead of The Oval Test, Brook said if the hosts win the finale, it will be 'a moral&nbsp;victory'. "We were dominating the game last week, weren't we? Brook further added, "It's a shame the weather ruined it for us because we'd have felt very confident going into this game at 2-2. We haven't lost yet. They've only retained it. So, if we win this week, it's a draw isn't it? That would be lovely (to deny Australia a drought-breaking series win). It's not nice drawing is it, but it would be lovely to not give them that privilege."

England and Australia are set to lock horns in the fifth and final Test of Ashes 2023, starting on Thursday (July 27) at The Oval, London. After Pat Cummins-led Australia had a narrow escape in the fourth Test, in Manchester, the visitors managed to retain the urn and will now gear up to win their first-ever Ashes series triumph in England since 2001.

Ahead of The Oval Test, Brook said if the hosts win the finale, it will be 'a moral victory'. "We were dominating the game last week, weren't we? Returning to bat at his chosen position (number five) in the second innings - something that matters in cricket, Brook oozed class and showed grit to fight the potent bowling attack.

After the fall of the third wicket in Zak Crawley on day four, local boy Brook entered the scene, much to a loud cheer by the crowd and straightaway got onto doing his job.

After early near misses, the young right-hand batter played some soothing drives to settle the nerves, and once he got in, there was no stopping him.

Asked to play the Bazball style, Brook obeyed the orders but with added cautions and found gaps on good balls – a sign of the fine batter that he is.

Though he and Stokes looked like taking the match home, following two quick wickets right after tea, he added 69 runs with Woakes for the sixth-wicket stand – that defined the chase.

"I think that tops it, to be honest. To do it in the Ashes, at home on my home ground as well, it was very good… it hasn't quite sunk in yet, but I'm sure it will after a few drinks,” Brook told media reporters after the match.

Speaking on his dismissal, which to many, looked surprising given how he was batting, Brooks said he wasn’t happy with himself either but expressed happiness over winning the match for England.

"It's a lot more nerve-wracking when you're sat up there than in the middle," he told Sky Sports. "I'm not one to blow up when I get in the changing room, but I had a little blow-up today. I like getting us over the line, and yeah, it was annoying that I didn't today, but I'm happy we won.

"Everybody [in the dressing room] erupted. We only needed about 20 runs, and I had complete and utter faith in Woakesy and Woody. It was tense for a little while, but when Woody hit that six, we kind of knew it was on,” the Yorkshire batter added.

<h2>‘I am comfortable batting at five</h2>

Being asked to take up the number three slot in Ollie Pope’s absence in this Test, Brook departed early on three in the first innings. However, after Moeen Ali raised his hand to weather the storm in the tight chase by asking to get promoted to the number three slot, Brook returned to his favourite batting position and delivered for the team.

"I've batted No. 5 for the last four or five years of my career, whether it's with England or Yorkshire, so I probably feel most comfortable there. But I'm happy to just be in the XI,” Brook added.

Meanwhile, the score line remains at 2-1 in favour of Australia, with the fourth Test slated to start on July 19 at Old Trafford in Manchester.
