Noah Baumbach`s awards season favourite `Marriage Story`, received a limited Oscars-qualifying theatrical run in North America, but since Netflix is blocked from operating in China, the company has decided to sell the film`s big-screen rights to a local distributor. 
"Marriage Story is subtle and realistic -- and sometimes humorous, or life-affirming -- portrayal of love, marriage and family in all shapes and forms is sure to evoke strong emotional resonance in the Chinese audience," the company said in a statement. 
 
A representative for Road Pictures told The Hollywood Reporter on Monday that the company is aiming for a major nationwide rollout sometime shortly after the 92nd Academy Awards in February.&nbsp; 
 
State-backed distributor China Film Group will import and release the title, while Road Pictures will handle all marketing and support -- the typical arrangement in China. In all 77 years of Golden Globes only five women have been recognised for directing and only one woman has won. Barbra Streisand had won Golden Globes in 1984 for making ‘Yentl.’ Streisand was nominated again as director in 1992 for ‘The Prince of Tides.’

The other female director nominees from past years at the Golden Globes are Jane Campion for 1994 film ‘The Piano’, Sofia Coppola for 2004 film ‘Lost in Translation’, Kathryn Bigelow for 2010 film ‘The Hurt Locker’ and 2013 film ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ and finally Ava DuVernay for 2015 film ‘Selma’.&nbsp;

Barbra Streisand had won Golden Globes in 1984 for making ‘Yentl.’ Streisand was nominated again as director in 1992 for ‘The Prince of Tides.’ The other female director nominees from past years at the Golden Globes are Jane Campion for 1994 film ‘The Piano’, Sofia Coppola for 2004 film ‘Lost in Translation’, Kathryn Bigelow for 2010 film ‘The Hurt Locker’ and 2013 film ‘Zero Dark Thirty’ and finally Ava DuVernay for 2015 film ‘Selma’. At the 2019 Golden Globes ceremony, actress Natalie Portman had even taken a dig at the organisers for omitting all female directors from their list last year when while announcing she said, “all male nominees” -- the meme ultimately became viral.

On the TV’s side, the nominees are led by Emmy winners ‘Game of Thrones’, ‘Fleabag’, ‘Succession’ and ‘Big Little Lies’.
