With its headquarters in Singapore, APEC is considered as one of&nbsp;the oldest international forums in the Asia-Pacific Region.

Xi and Kishida's bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the summit is one of the high-profile talks at the forum, especially when China and Japan's relations&nbsp;have been strained due to their historical past and security concerns.&nbsp;

Bloomberg reported that Xi spoke with Trudeau at the closing session of the summit at G20 with the help of a translator and discussed the conversation that was leaked to a paper.&nbsp;

The Chinese president said, "Everything we discuss has been leaked to the paper, that’s not appropriate."&nbsp;

In response, Trudeau interrupted the translator to say, "We believe in free and open and frank dialogue and that is what we will continue to have. We will continue to look to work constructively together but there will be things we will disagree on."&nbsp;

A video of the conversation, a rare behind-the-scenes incident, went viral on social media platforms. The same video has been published by several media outlets, but an official confirmation is still awaited.&nbsp;

Recently, a local broadcaster in Canada, Global News, reported that China was directly involved in an election as Beijing had funded a "clandestine network" of candidates in a recent ballot.&nbsp;

The report of election interference came days after authorities started probing the illegal Chinese police stations in the Toronto area.&nbsp;

It's a matter that's going to require the Canadian government to take additional steps to secure Canada's democracy."&nbsp;

The Chinese president also told Yoon that he hopes Seoul will try to improve its relations with Pyongyang and that he is willing to support South Korea’s bid for a denuclearisation offer if North Korea was to accept it.&nbsp;

The in-person meeting on the sidelines of the G20 between the two leaders lasted nearly 25 minutes and was the first one since December 2019.&nbsp;

In reference to the recent escalation of nuclear war, Zelensky said that "the crazy threats of nuclear weapons that Russian officials resort to" must be stopped.&nbsp;

"I thank you, dear G19, for making this clear. However, please use all your power to make Russia abandon nuclear threats and there are and cannot be any excuses for nuclear blackmail," he added.&nbsp;

On the other hand, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was listening to the address of the Ukrainian president. Lavrov has also accused Zelensky that he is prolonging the conflict and ignoring Western advice.&nbsp;

A war of words ensued between Russia and Ukraine after &nbsp;Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at the G20 Summit that there will be no "Minsk 3" deal to end the fighting in Ukraine. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the statement is a clear indication that Kyiv is not interested in holding peace talks with Moscow, the RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Speaking via video link, Zelensky ruled out a third "Minsk agreement", a reference to two failed ceasefire deals between Kyiv and Moscow over the status of the eastern Donbas region.

"We will not allow Russia to wait, build up its forces, and then start a new series of terror and global destabilisation. There will be no Minsk 3, which Russia will violate immediately after the agreement," Zelensky said.

Zelensky in his address, urged world leaders to back a plan to end the war, saying now was the time to push for peace after Russia's defeat in the southern city of Kherson. "I am convinced now is the time when the Russian destructive war must and can be stopped," he said.

He said that now that Ukraine is making advances, there would be more fighting until they reclaim control of all of its occupied territory.

Zelensky made it clear that Kyiv would not compromise its sovereignty, territory or independence and called on Russia to withdraw its forces and reaffirm Ukraine's territorial integrity. &nbsp;He also called for all Ukrainian prisoners to be released.

"Please choose your path for leadership - and together we will surely implement the peace formula," he said.

He also lauded China for criticising threats to use nuclear weapons, following Xi Jinping's meeting with US President Joe Biden.&nbsp;

"Nuclear weapons should not be used and nuclear wars should not be fought...," Xi told Biden according to China's Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Both countries have stayed away from the negotiation table ever since the war began in February. Early attempts to broker a ceasefire in Istanbul had also broken down.

Lavrov claimed the reports were part of "some kind of game" that he blamed on Western media.&nbsp;

"They've been writing for about 10 years that our president is sick," he said.

Russia invaded Ukraine on February 24 this year. After sustained territorial gains in the initial months of the invasion, the Russian troops have had to retreat in the face of Ukrainian counter-offensive. Retreat from Kherson has become a latest blow to the Russian war campaign.

Meanwhile, he also talked about how the implementation of the common framework created by the G20 economies as well as the Paris Club of official creditors in late 2020 for debt treatments has been halted.&nbsp;

In this context, he gave the example of the African nation, Chad, whose bilateral creditors are countries like China, France, India and Saudi Arabia and also private creditors like Switzerland-based Glencore which reportedly reached an agreement on the country’s nearly $3 billion in external debt. However, Malpass says that it does not account for longer-term debt sustainability as it forgoes any actual debt reduction.&nbsp;

He also said that the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Western officials have repeatedly criticised China as well as private sector lenders for not moving forward with their plan at a faster pace. Therefore, the World Bank president said that the overall debt issue will be one of the highlights of the upcoming meeting of the G20 leaders.&nbsp;

Malpass also called for an increased pace of debt restructuring for both Chad and Zambia with the latter being the first to make the request under the new common framework. He added that the longer the process of enacting real debt reductions is, it will become increasingly difficult for these countries to “get back on their feet.”&nbsp;

This comes as Malpass warns about the bank's forthcoming International Debt Statistics report, which he reportedly said was troubling but did not give any specific numbers or statistics on the same. &nbsp;

But the preliminary data released by the World Bank in June hints at the worsening situation as it showed that the external debt stock of low- and middle-income countries on average rose 6.9 per cent in 2021 to $9.3 trillion which is a 1.3 per cent growth witnessed since 2020. “The report makes clear that debt reduction needs to extend broadly to include the private sector and China,” said Malpass.&nbsp;

The war in Ukraine and its economic fallout is expected to dominate discussions in Bali and at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum in Bangkok at the end of the week, alongside climate commitments, food insecurity and tensions over the Taiwan Strait, the South China Sea and North Korea.

Lavrov earlier accused the West if militarising Southeast Asia to contain Chinese and Russian interests.

"The United States and its NATO allies are trying to master this space," Lavrov told reporters.

US does not seek conflict with China, says Biden before G20 summit

"One of the principle that Indonesia's Presidency has upheld throughout the year is that dialogue in any form is more important than no dialogue whatsoever. Meanwhile, Russian defence ministry confirmed on Friday that the troops have completed their evacuation from Ukraine’s Kherson region. The region was annexed by Russia following a series of referendums which were considered to be “sham” by the US and most western countries.

The summit of the Group of 20 or G20 nations is set to begin in Indonesia's Bali next week between November 14 and 17.

Jinping's first in-person meeting with Biden

The impending conversation between US President Joe Biden and President Xi Jinping of China will mark their first in-person encounter since Biden replaced Donald Trump in the White House. The two have spoken a number of times over the phone but never met in person since Biden became president.

Foreign ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told a press briefing in Beijing that President Xi Jinping will also meet African Union's chairperson Macky Sall and Argentinian President Alberto Fernandez.

The White House has already said that President Joe Biden will meet Xi Jinping on Monday when the "leaders will discuss efforts to maintain and deepen lines of communication", as well as how to "responsibly manage competition and work together where our interests align".

It remains unclear if a meeting between India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping is on schedule during the upcoming G-20 summit.

China's Xi Jinping to attend G20 summit, meeting with India's Modi unconfirmed

The group of 20 countries are all set to meet in Bali for the G20 annual summit. The theme for the summit is - Recover Together, Recover Stronger. Ukraine war, inflation and food security. The two-day summit will kick-off on the 15th November.

The 17th edition of the G20 summit takes place from November 15 to 16. The summit will see world leaders gathering to chalk out solution for the current global crisis. US President Joe Biden will also be in Bali which is also know as "Island of the Gods".&nbsp;

The logo, which has the colors of Indian national flag juxtaposes planet Earth with the lotus, India’s national flower.

But the worries over the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, a world recovering from Covid pandemic are unlikely to go away very soon. But India sounds hopeful as PM at the time of the launch said, "India's G20 presidency is coming at a time of crisis and chaos in the world. India will host G20 sumit next year for the first time since 2008. Under Indian presidency, two hundred G20 meetings will take place across the country beginning December of this year. The first meeting will be the Sherpa meeting in Udaipur in the first week of December.

G20 doesn't have a secretariat but it's the president of the grouping who decides the agenda. India already has set up a G20 Secretariat under the Ministry of External Affairs. It has over 40 officials. The secretariat is headed by India's Sherpa Amitabh Kant, India's G20 Chief Coordinator Harsh Vardhan Shringla and G20 special operations lead Muktesh Pardeshi.

G20 Summit: PM Modi to hold bilateral with French prez, UK PM

The White House announced on Thursday (November 10) that United States President Joe Biden will meet with Chinese leader Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 meeting in Bali, Indonesia&nbsp;on November 14.&nbsp;

The meeting will take place amid escalating tensions in the Taiwan strait as some political analysts have speculated that a conflict between the two superpowers over the island is more imminent than ever. Some claims were even made that China may invade as early as this year or next.&nbsp; 
 
Biden said on Wednesday that he will make no concessions&nbsp;to Xi and that he is focused on determining the “red lines” on conflicting interests.&nbsp;“I've told [Beijing] I'm looking for competition, not conflict,” Biden said.

The meeting comes amid deeply strained Sino-U.S. ties, particularly after U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's August trip to Taiwan, the self-governed democratic island which Beijing claims as its territory.&nbsp;

Meanwhile, a senior administration official said on Thursday that Biden hopes to build a "floor" for relations with China during his meeting with the Chinese counterpart.&nbsp;

The official added that the US president would be honest about his concerns over trade, Taiwan and human rights.&nbsp;

Indonesia has extended invite to both the Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky to attend the mega summit.&nbsp;

This year's summit is important for India as the presidency of the grouping will be handed over to New Delhi. India, as the president of the grouping for a period of one year, will host the summit in September next year. Asked about the hopes regarding India's presidency, Ambassador said, "I believe India will champion the G20 presidency in the future."

Together, the G20 members represent more than 80 per cent of world's GDP, 75 per cent of international trade and 60 per cent of the world population. It emerged primarily as an economic grouping after the 2008 financial crisis and has taken on a political role as well amid a dysfunctional United Nations Security Council.&nbsp;

WION: What preparations are underway to host this big-ticket summit?

Ina Krisnamurthi: Logistically, efforts are on to ensure that all guests are welcomed properly, and they feel at home during the stay in Bali. Security wise, Bali is one of the most secure places. It is an island, a destination very close to the hearts of the Indian people, culturally, historically. My leaders, president, minister of finance, foreign affairs, coordinating minister for economy, maritime all are trying their best in coordinating efforts to make G20 a success.

WION: What will be the key focus area under the Indonesian Presidency for the grouping?

Ina Krisnamurthi: Throughout the year, since December 2021, when we received handover from Italy, we had three priorities -- health, governance and digital economy and energy. We push forward for any effort, any policy implemented to and for G20 members, and we keep that promise. Although it is not an easy period for G20 because of the global dynamics, we push forward for that. That is with two principles in mind, which is that we want a stronger multilateral forum, and want to have a very inclusive way of decision which is why we included pacific island countries in our deliberation. Priorities are done throughout the year, and we will not change that for the summit.&nbsp;

WION: How significant is it for your country? Because so far countries who have hosted the summit are developed countries and with Indonesia it is the start of developing countries hosting the summit.

Ina Krisnamurthi: Until 2025, G20 will be headed by emerging economies, so for sure the presidency of G20 is very important because we make an effort for the interest of the emerging economies to be heard, listened to in the G20 format. This presidency is also important because the pandemic resulted in a very severe economic situation for everyone and the worst victims have been emerging economies, less developed countries. For sure, G20 is very important for Indonesia because Indonesia is experiencing turbulence in its economy while we experience the pandemic. We have priorities, like health governance, so that we are more prepared for future pandemic.&nbsp;

Second is digital economy...During the pandemic, we have survived and thrived due to digital economy.

Third issue is more and more important. It is food, energy, water security with climate change. It is becoming key element for progress and development for our community and society.

Ina Krisnamurthi: One of the principles Indonesia's presidency has is that dialogue in whatever form is more important than no dialogue whatsoever. People coming in one room to discuss matters, common concerns are more important than thinking about 2-3 parties' interests.&nbsp;

Throughout the presidency for Indonesia, bridging all interests is making everyone come in the same room, to develop dialogue, to discuss the common interest. That is why we have priorities we keep putting forth for whatever reason the global dynamics is. The challenge to bridge the tension, differences, yes, it is very challenging. But at the same time, if we do not sit together in one same room, the challenge or the problem or the matter will not go away. Pandemic also teaches us that no one is securely safe from the pandemic. Everyone experiences the pandemic. Everyone can't live by themselves; everyone needs support to survive the pandemic. Bridging the pandemic is not about making sure everyone has one interest. At least we tried to come up with an avenue for everyone to sit together, to do the dialogue.&nbsp;

WION: Do you expect a family photo, the western leaders and the Russian President to be together?

Ina Krisnamurthi: I think, all are in the eyes of the beholder because the photo ops are not actually substantive in nature, that is my personal opinion. Because the family photo is only a family photo opportunity and doesn't show anything. More than 20 people coming on one stage and taking pictures, does not show anything. The reason for them to come to Bali and sit together, that is more substantial for us rather than family photos. It is not important for family photos to happen or to not happen. The most important thing is that the G20 becomes an avenue for everyone to just state views, state opinions on what to do for the world for a better international community.&nbsp;

WION: Have President Putin, President Zelensky confirmed that they will come to Bali?

Ina Krisnamurthi: Well, the last information, you can find in open media, that my president did not even say who is coming and when they are coming. But for sure, we are trying our best. Even my President is taking calls from leaders. During G7 meetings, he made an effort for everyone to understand Indonesia's position and for Indonesia to understand everyone's position on certain issues, so avenue of dialogue is there. We have seen efforts by my minister, foreign minister and also finance minister to just go and have meetings. You may know, the G20 is the only prime economic framework for leaders to sit down and think about the future of the world.

WION: Are you hopeful of a breakthrough in Bali, in terms of the leaders coming together, do you see President Putin, Zelensky meeting?

Ina Krisnamurthi: For the bilateral meetings, I believe, many bilaterals. Even to sit down in the same room and speak, maybe not to each other, but speaking on behalf of the G20 is a breakthrough.

WION: How do you see the Indian presidency of the grouping that will be handed over from you?

Ina Krisnamurthi: I think the most interesting part for the Indian presidency is that the troika is the historical troika because in the first time of the history of G20, the troika would consist of three emerging economies...For India it is very historical. I have seen how the internet goes crazy with minister Jaishankar going around the world and explaining about India's policy. I think his way of leadership for sure will be a good way for India to lead the G20 into a better position in the future. Unfortunately, India, Indonesia hope that the challenge we experience will be completed before India's presidency but unfortunately-not. The problem of food, energy, and water security is still there. India is among the best in making sure the emerging economies experience the same positive impact. I believe India will champion the G20 presidency in the future.&nbsp;

WION: Why was Bali chosen for the G20 summit?

Ina Krisnamurthi: During Covid, Bali for us was the worst victim of pandemic. More than 90% of its economy depends so much on tourism. We need to help our brothers and sisters in Bali to overcome this challenge. Secondly, Indonesia has hosted events at the summit level, including WTO ministerial, APEC. We believe that Bali has a certain vibrancy. Everyone coming to the island has certain comfortability and at the end the meeting is successful, and the outcome is also substantive. This is why Bali is the host of the G20 summit.&nbsp;

Indonesia envoy emphasises dialogue as Russia-Ukraine conflict looms over G20 Bali summit

United States National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said on Sunday (October 16) that President Joe Biden has "no plans" to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at a November G20 summit in Indonesia.

Sullivan told CNN that Biden "has no plans to meet with the crown prince at the G20 summit,"&nbsp;adding that the president will act "methodically" in re-evaluating the US relationship with Saudi Arabia, which has been further strained by Riyadh's support for oil production cuts.&nbsp;

"And so the President isn't going to act precipitously, he is going to act methodically, strategically and he's going to take his time to consult with members of both parties, and also to have an opportunity for Congress to return so that he can sit with them in person and work through the options," said Sullivan.&nbsp;

The MEA statement released on Tuesday read: "Under its Presidency, India is expected to host over 200 G20 meetings across the country, beginning December 2022. The G20 Leaders' Summit at the level of Heads of State/Government is scheduled to be held on September 9 and 10, 2023 in New Delhi."&nbsp;

Apart from the members, there is a tradition of the G20 presidency to invite some guest countries and International Organizations (IOs) to its G20 meetings and summit.&nbsp;

The MEA statement noted that India will be inviting Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and UAE as guest countries, as well as ISA (International Solar Alliance), CDRI (Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure) and ADB (Asian Development Bank) as guest IOs.&nbsp;
