<p>Sputnik V also lacks regulatory approval in the EU and the US.</p>

<p>Chinese President Xi Jinping -- who, like Putin did not travel to Rome for the summit and participated by video link -- made a similar call for the mutual recognition of vaccines, according to Chinese state media.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Rising cases</strong></p>

<p>Putin and Xi were said to have avoided travelling to Italy due to tightening coronavirus restrictions in their home countries.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Russia has seen increased coronavirus cases in spite of increased availability of Spuynik jabs. Putin has ordered a week-long holiday starting Saturday with an aim to contain spread of the virus.</p>

<p>Russian authorities said Saturday that daily infection numbers had risen to 40,251, a record since the start of the pandemic, with only 32.5 percent of the population fully vaccinated.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to a source quoted by Reuters, "all the leaders" agreed to commit to the target set out by Draghi.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Italian premier noted that while more than 70 percent of people in developed countries have received at least one dose of the Covid vaccine, the percentage drops to around three percent in the poorest parts of the world. &nbsp;</p>

<p>"These differences are morally unacceptable, and undermine the global recovery," he said.</p>

<p>Stressing on 'One Earth, One Health' vision of collaborative approach in dealing with Covid virus, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India is ready to produce over 5 billion coronavirus vaccine doses by the end of next year to help the world in the fight against the pandemic.</p>

<p>Speaking in his intervention at the session on “global economy and global health” at G20 Summit session in Rome on Saturday, Modi also flagged the issue of facilitating international travel and talked about the mechanism of mutual recognition of vaccine certification as a means of achieving this, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla said, briefing reporters on PM’s engagements.</p>

<p>PM Modi invited G20 countries to make India their partner in economic recovery and supply chain diversification. He also brought out the fact that despite challenges posed by the pandemic, India continued to be a trusted partner in the context of reliable supply chains, Shringla said.</p>

<p>Noting that the WHO approval for the emergency use authorisation for India's indigenous vaccine, Covaxin,&nbsp;is pending, Modi suggested that a nod for the jab will help India assist other countries.</p>

<p>A technical advisory group of the UN health agency will meet on November 3 to conduct a final "risk-benefit assessment" for Emergency Use Listing of Covaxin. Bharat Biotech's Covaxin and AstraZeneca and Oxford University's Covishield are the two widely used vaccines in India.</p>

<p>Shringla said that Prime Minister Modi expressed satisfaction over the G20’s decision to come up with a 15 per minimum corporate tax to make the global financial architecture more “just and fair”.</p>

<p>The decision is aimed at ensuring that companies pay a certain amount of tax in the countries they are located in.</p>

In his own words, he said: “You (PM Modi) have given me the greatest gift. I am looking forward to visiting India".
