<p>Candidates representing the ruling party led by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida clinched victory over four of five parliamentary seats up in the by-elections on Sunday, stated the domestic media, in what looked like a sign of increasing support for the premier.</p>

<p>Political analysts said that it would be interesting to see if Kishida takes advantage of the momentum and calls for a snap election after dissolving the lower house of parliament.</p>

<p>However, Kishida, on Monday morning said that he was not planning to call a snap election currently. "I am determined to advance important policies while listening to the voices of the people," he said.</p>

<p>Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Tuesday reached Bucha, the region where Russian forces faced accusation of massacring Ukrainian civilians during their Kyiv-region suburb's weeks-long occupation last year.</p>

<p>Kishida expressed strong "indignation" during his visit to Bucha. "As I step foot in Bucha today, and witness all the brutality that took place here, I have a strong sentiment of indignation," he stated in translated remarks.</p>

<p>Later in the day,&nbsp;Kishida laid a wreath&nbsp;at the memorial for fallen Ukrainian soldiers in&nbsp;Kyiv city centre, accompanied by an honour guard.</p>

<p>Kishida arrived in Kyiv on Tuesday, the Japanese media reported after the foreign ministry announced his surprise visit to Ukraine.</p>

<p>Earlier today, public broadcaster NHK stated Kishida "could be seen getting off a train at a station in the centre of Kyiv", where he is likely to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.</p>

<p>Representing Japan, which is among the democracies present in the Group of Seven, Kishida will voice his solidarity with Ukraine following Russia's invasion more than a year ago, said the foreign ministry in a statement.</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the foreign ministry of Ukraine on Tuesday welcomed Kishida's arrival in Kyiv, hailing his "historic" visit as a key show of solidarity.</p>

<p>"This historic visit is a sign of solidarity and strong cooperation between (Ukraine and Japan). We are grateful to Japan for its strong support and contribution to our future victory," said First Deputy Foreign Minister Emine Dzheppar on Twitter.</p>

<p>Before boarding the plane to India, Kishida tweeted in Japanese that he will unveil a new plan on Free and Open Indo-Pacific, adding, “We will present concrete ideas about the future of FOIP at this historical turning point.”</p>

<p>“I will visit India and meet with Prime Minister Modi. This year, Japan will chair the G7 and India will chair the G20. I would like to exchange views on the role that our two countries should play in resolving the mountain of international challenges, and to further strengthen our "Special Strategic Global Partnership."</p>

<p>“Today, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida invited me to the G7 Leaders' Summit which will be held in Hiroshima in May. I thank him for this,” Modi said.</p>

<p>The Indian leader said that he briefed Prime Minister Kishida about the priorities of the Indian presidency of G20.</p>

<p>“In September this year, I will again get the opportunity to welcome PM Fumio Kishida to India for the G20 Leaders' Summit: PM Narendra Modi,” he said.</p>
