The Bodhi Tree is of significant importance, as it is a sapling from the Holy Bodhi Tree, under which the Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. It was gifted by the then-prime minister of Sri Lanka Sirimavo Bandarnaike, and planted by India's then-prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri&nbsp;in 1964.&nbsp;

The sapling of the Bodhi Tree in Sri Lanka&nbsp;was planted in 288 BC by King Asoka's daughter&nbsp;Sanghamitra.&nbsp;She had taken a branch of the original tree in Bodh Gaya with her to Sri Lanka where it is growing to this day, while the original tree, which was in Bihar, decayed.

India and Japan share a Special Strategic and Global Partnership, which has been elevated over the years to signify the growing importance of the relationship. Annual Summits and 2+2 Foreign and Defence Ministerial Meetings are held between the two countries to discuss various areas of cooperation, including defence and security, trade and investment, S&amp;T, education, healthcare, and critical and emerging technologies.

Recent milestones in this area include the successful conduct of the first fighter jet exercise "Veer Guardian" in January 2023, and the 4th "Dharma Guardian" army exercise, which was conducted for the first time in Japan. Maritime security cooperation and Navy-to-Navy cooperation have also seen significant progress, with several joint exercises conducted between the two countries.

Japan is a significant investor in India, and the two countries have set up Japan Industrial Townships (JITs) to promote economic partnership, investment, industry, and infrastructure development.

The two countries also have a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) that covers various areas, including trade in goods and services, movement of natural persons, investments, and intellectual property rights.

Our country will continue to monitor the progress of this investigation with great interest," the news agency Reuters reported.&nbsp;

Kishida added that he and Scholz reaffirmed the importance of Japan and Germany uniting with like-minded countries to end the Russian aggression as soon as possible and to continue strict sanctions against Russia and strong support for Ukraine.&nbsp;

German Chancellor Scholz, while welcoming&nbsp;ICC's decision on Putin, said that no one was above the law. “I don’t have a lot to add. No one is above the law. That’s a very important pillar of international law. We all know that the International Criminal Court is an important institution which was given its mandate through international treaties,” Scholz told reporters.&nbsp;

Apart from Japan and Germany, several other world leaders including United States president Joe Biden, UK Foreign Secretary James Cleverly, and EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell hailed the decision.&nbsp;

Ukraine said that the arrest warrant (against Putin) was just an initial step in restoring justice over Moscow's offensive. "The world received a signal that the Russian regime is criminal and its leadership and henchmen will be held accountable," Ukraine's Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin said on social media.&nbsp;

Kostin added that world leaders would think thrice before shaking Putin's hand or sitting down at the negotiating table with him.&nbsp;

With no young population on the bench, the economic story of Japan may come to a grinding halt. Two years back, the Bank of Japan had pledged to improve its gender disparity. It had vowed that it'll do that by raising the ratio of female managers from six per cent to 10 per cent; a goal that falls far below the European Central Bank's score of 30 per cent of females in management roles.

The BOJ nomination has once again underscored the hurdles women in Japan face in their fight to reach the country's top leadership positions.

As Momoko Nojo, a prominent campaigner for gender equality in Japan, puts it, "this is a problem that is not going to change easily."

Nojo further said that "the BOJ, even now, from the entry level it's mainly men ... There's no diversity."

Japan ranked 116 of 146 countries in the World Economic Forum's global report on gender parity last year.

Unfortunately, it is not just Japan, worldwide. Only about 11 per cent of central banks had a female governor and 37 per cent had female deputy governors.

Unlike Japan, which has been ruled by the conservative Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) for most of the past seven decades, the rest of the G7 nations allow marriage or civil unions for same-sex couples.

Kishida is battling to keep his approval ratings high as opinion polls showed that his public support had halved to 30 per cent since last year. His government was hit by a scandal-tainted resignations by senior officials.

The report added that Kishida's bodyguards are limited in what weapons can they carry, and there is also no legal framework to allow the Japanese military to protect the PM abroad.&nbsp;

In May, Japan will be hosting the G7 Summit in Hiroshima where Russia's offensive in Ukraine is going to be one of the biggest agendas. The Japanese government has worked with its allies to sanction Moscow and boost support to Kyiv, even taking the rare step of offering refuge to people fleeing the war.&nbsp;

Seiji Kihara, the deputy chief Cabinet secretary, on YouTube apologised for the casual stance and said that even his mother scolded him saying that she was "ashamed" of him after reading comments that his son was “disgracing his parents”.

Making an appearance on a YouTube political discussion channel, Kihara defended his actions saying that he was the “sort of person who puts his hands in his pockets while walking” and added that he was simply concentrating on Kishida’s comments so he could accurately brief the media on the outcome of the Biden summit.

“I was thinking of how best to convey the amicable Japan-US relations on display at the summit,” he said.

The 52-year-old further said that during his angry phone call with his mother, she suggested that he “sew up his pockets”.

The incident is said to have transpired on January 13 when Kishida was on the US leg of his five-day trip to North America and Europe.

The video went viral after Asahi Shimbun newspaper posted a clip on its Twitter account, sparking criticism from social media users.

Medvedev said that rather than demanding repentance for this, Kishida showed that he was "just a service attendant for the Americans". Kishida made no mention of these comments by the former Russian President.&nbsp;

The murderer further claimed that the church had driven his mother into bankruptcy and blamed Abe for this. However, the LDP members said that there had been no organisational connections between the party and the group.&nbsp;

Further, the decision Kishida took for a state burial for Abe, led to huge criticism. The economic minister also reigned over his links with the group.&nbsp;

The prime minister has been under great pressure from the citizens for not only his links with the church but also for handling the situation carefully.&nbsp;

Japan's internal affairs minister Minoru Terada on Sunday (November 20) quit marking the exit of third minister from PM Fumio Kishida's cabinet in a matter of a month.

Minoru Terada quit over allegations of mismanagement of political funds. &nbsp;He had acknowledged to parliament that his local campaign group had even listed a dead person as its treasurer in annual financial statements.

He faces allegations of illegal payments to staff during his re-election campaign last year.

"I just tendered (my) resignation to the prime minister," Terada told a hastily arranged news conference on Sunday night.&nbsp;

"I felt my problems over political funds must not become a hindrance&nbsp;to parliament," he said.

Terada's resignation has come on the final day of Kishida's tour to Thailand for Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation summit.

Kishida is now on the backfoot after resignations of his three ministers.

"I would like to apologise deeply for the fact that a series of cabinet ministers ended up resigning during the parliamentary session," Kishida told reporters after accepting Terada's resignation.

The string of resignations has been dubbed "resignation dominoes" by the Japanese media.&nbsp;

The approval rating for Kishida's government is barely more than 30 per cent, its lowest level since he took office last year, according to the latest NHK poll.&nbsp;Kishida's ratings sank after the assassination of former PM Shinzo Abe revealed deep and longstanding ties between ruling Liberal Democratic Party politicians and the Unification Church, a group that critics say is a cult. 
 
Kishida said he had accepted Terada's resignation in order to prioritise parliamentary debate, including discussions on a second extra budget for the fiscal year ending in March.
