Brazil's exit from the knockout stage of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar is hurting Neymar. The star footballer took to his Instagram account to state he was 'psychologically destroyed' ever since the Selecao lost in the quarterfinals on penalty shootouts. "I am psychologically destroyed. It is definitely the defeat which has hurt me the most, which left me paralysed for ten minutes after the match, after which I burst into tears without being able to stop," read the post. "We fought until the end. That's what I'm proud of my teammates because there was no lack of commitment and dedication. This group deserved it, we deserved it, BRAZIL deserved it... But this was not the will of GOD!" The Brazilian striker added that the defeat was going to hurt for a long time. "It was worth every sacrifice to feel the affection of each one from inside the field... Thank you all for your support with our national team. Unfortunately it didn't work out... it's gonna hurt for a long, long time." 'I'm psychologically destroyed...': Neymar after World Cup knockout exit

Portuguese player Bruno Fernandes has slammed the match officials after his side crashed out of the World Cup. Talking after the match, Fernandes said that Argentine referee Facundo Tello should not have been given the responsibility to officiate the match.

"I don't know if they're going to give the cup to Argentina. I don't care, I'm going to say what I think, and screw them. It's very strange that a referee from a team that's still in the cup officiates us. They've clearly tilted the field against us."

Meanwhile, 39-year-old Pepe also echoed his teammate's statements and added that the referee did not allow his side to play in the second half.

"We dominated the game 100 per cent of the time, I think what the referee did today; this is an Argentinian referee. After what Messi said yesterday, it seems there's something very weird. We couldn't play in the second half because the referee kept stopping the game."

"Their goalkeeper was always stopped, only added eight minutes of injury time. After what I saw today, they can now give the title to Argentina.”

Notably, after Argentina's hard-fought victory over the Netherlands, Lionel Messi in an interview took a shot at referee Lahoz who handed as many as 18 yellow cards during the course of the match, setting a new record in the process.

"I don’t want to speak about referees because they will sanction you. But people saw what happened. I think FIFA must take care of this. It cannot put a referee like that for a match of such magnitude, of such importance. The referee cannot fail to be up to the task," said Messi.

Goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was blunt in his assessment of the referee and said, "Hopefully we don't have that ref anymore...He's useless!"

In the 117th minute, Bruno Petkovic equalised via a huge deflection from Brazil centre-back Marquinhos. As a result, the game went into penalties where Dominik Livaković saved a couple of penalties, thereby ensuring his team went ahead while Brazilians sunk to the ground in dismay.
It was a controversial end to Cristiano Ronaldo's second stint at Manchester United. After his explosive claims in a recent interview with British broadcaster Piers Morgan, where he slammed the Old Trafford club owners and came hard on team manager Erik Ten Hag, the 37-year-old Portugal star player was shown the door with his contract still not getting over. Ronaldo spoke at length on his equation with the Dutch manager and how he felt 'betrayed' by the treatment he received from the senior club executives.

As the situation became out of control, Ronaldo departed from the club where he had a memorable first stint, under Sir Alex Ferguson. Following his departure, Erik Ten Hag has finally opened up on his explosive interview. In an interview to MUTV, he said, "He’s gone and it’s the past. 'He’s gone...': Erik Ten Hag reacts to Cristiano Ronaldo's ouster from Man United after explosive claims

Cristiano Ronaldo hasn't had the best of 2022. His turbulent second stint with Manchester United finally ended after his recent explosive claims against the Red Devils' owners and team manager Erik Ten Hag. After being released by the Old Trafford club, before his contract was to get over, there have been speculations regarding his next move. Many reports have linked the superstar footballer to several top clubs. It has been rumoured that the Portugal captain is making a move to Saudi Arabia.

In this regard, many media outlets, including Marca, reported that Ronaldo will stay in the Middle East after the FIFA World Cup and will join Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr in January 2023. However, the ex-Man United striker finally reacted to all such claims and made a big statement. "No, it is not true," Ronaldo was quoted as saying by Mais Futebol after Portugal's 6-1 win over Switzerland in the Round of 16 tie during the Qatar World Cup.

Former Cameroon player Samuel Eto'o has invited controversy after he was filmed attacking a man outside Stadium 974 in Qatar following the round of 16 match between Brazil and South Korea. Eto'o has been in Qatar as a global legacy ambassador for FIFA. In a video shared by La Opinion, a Spanish newspaper based in Los Angeles, Eto'o can be initially seen obliging the few fans around him with the photographs. However, after a man with a camera, seemingly filming the former Barcelona striker comes around and says something indecipherable, Eto'o loses his cool. The four-time African Player of the Year can be seen chasing the man who is still recording him. A heated exchange ensues between the duo as other bystanders attempt to break Eto'o away from the man. Another person, who appears to be with Eto'o comes around and grabs the man, pulling his camera and gear away. All this time, Eto'o is being held by a few people, away from the man. As soon as Eto'o lands the kick, two men pull him back. Meanwhile, the man, seemingly dazed, spreads himself across the floor after the impact.
In an attempt to focus its time and resources on developing football at the grassroots level, the All India Football Federation Monday announced had decided to withdraw India's bid to host the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.

“Our current focus is building the foundations of proper footballing structure before thinking of hosting bigger events like the AFC Asian Cup,” read the notification posted on AIFF's website.

Kalyan Chaubey, the newly crowned president of AIFF said India has shown the capability to host global events but "hosting of big events doesn't fit into the Federation's strategic priorities".

“India has always been a wonderful and efficient host to big tournaments, which was amply demonstrated in the recently concluded FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. However, the EC has decided that the overall strategy of the Federation currently remains on focusing on the fundamental goals to strengthen our football at every level from grassroots to youth development," said Chaubey.

"At the same time, we must also strengthen our stakeholders, especially the State Associations and work closely with the clubs to bring about a change in every aspect of football at the domestic level. All such aspects will truly be implemented when the Roadmap is announced later this month.”

Chaubey took over as the AIFF president after besting former Indian national team skipper Bhaichung Bhutia. At the time, Chaubey made bold promises to further the cause of the sport in the country, arousing the interest of the fans.

All such aspects will truly be implemented when the Roadmap is announced later this month.” 🚨 AIFF Statement 🚨 Read 👉 https://t.co/ArybRguVU6#IndianFootball ⚽ pic.twitter.com/HbUIZTAnBh — Indian Football Team (@IndianFootball) December 5, 2022 × Chaubey took over as the AIFF president after besting former Indian national team skipper Bhaichung Bhutia. Rift emerges in German dressing room after World Cup mouth-covering protest: Reports

As per the strategic Roadmap of the Federation, which will be announced later this month, the AIFF management thinks the hosting of big events doesn’t fit into the Federation’s strategic priorities. Following India's withdrawal, Saudi Arabia is set to host the 2027 Asian Cup. The Executive Committee in a statement said their present priority is laying the groundwork for a sound football system before considering hosting major tournaments like the AFC Asian Cup.

According to Kalyan Chaubey, president of the AIFF, India has always been a "wonderful and efficient host" for major competitions, as it was vividly shown in just finished FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup. Nevertheless, he went on to note that the Executive Committee had determined that the Federation's overarching strategy will continue to centre on efforts to enhance football at all levels, from grassroots to youth development. "At the same time, we must also strengthen our stakeholders, especially the State Associations and work closely with the clubs to bring about a change in every aspect of football at the domestic level. Later, South Korea and Thailand also decided not to participate, leaving just China to host the 2023 tournament. But because China also declined to serve as the host, it will instead be played in Qatar. The current FIFA World Cup is being held in Qatar, which has already twice hosted the Asian Cup.
