Francis Atwoli, secretary general of the Central Organisation of Trade Unions (COTU), said the govt had come up with an agreement and the plan would only move forward with the union’s approval.</p>

<p>Earlier in the day, passengers were left stranded at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Tuesday (Sep 10) night after&nbsp;Kenya Aviation Authority (KAA) workers went on strike, protesting against Indian conglomerate Adani Group's takeover of the airport.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The walk-out began at midnight, disrupting flights at the country's main airport. Queues of passengers waiting outside the terminal and lines of cars attempting to enter the area went viral on social media.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The union as well as critics of the move argue that Adani Grpup's takeover would lead to job losses for local staff and rob taxpayers of future airport profits.</p>

<p>The strikes were planned last month but delayed multiple times to allow for negotiations.&nbsp;The Kenyan&nbsp;government has reasoned that the airport is operating above capacity and needs modernising but that it is not for sale. According to reports Adani would add a second runway and upgrade the passenger terminal.&nbsp;</p>

<p>While the protests continue, Kenya's High Court has temporarily blocked the proposed deal, according to court documents cited in an AFP report.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), which was banned by the European Union (EU) in 2020, is making headlines once again&nbsp;after a&nbsp;video sharing the experience of flying in this terrifying airline&nbsp;went viral on social media.</p>

<p>The airline was banned after concerns were raised over the ability of Pakistan to ensure compliance with international aviation standards.</p>

<p>Now, a Pakistani man took to Instagram recently to share what it is like to travel with Pakistan International Airlines.</p>

<p>Social media user Ali Khan shared a video which showed the PIA's terrifying conditions and his experience on "one of the most dangerous flights in the world." In a caption of his post, he asked his followers, "Would you fly on this route?"&nbsp;</p>

<p>Passengers aboard an EasyJet plane were left mortified after the aircraft plummeted 200 metres, leaving two cabin crew injured&nbsp;while&nbsp;they were preparing to serve food.&nbsp;</p>

<p>According to reports, the flight&nbsp;carrying 181 passengers left Corfu, an island in Greece around 12:44 pm local time on Monday (Aug 19), and was bound for London Gatwick. Shortly after the takeoff, the plane encountered severe turbulence when it was cruising at&nbsp;speed in excess of 484 miles per hour.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>The cabin crew members were jerked around violently and slammed into the aircraft's walls. They sustained injuries serious enough for the pilot to divert the flight and land at Rome's Fiumicino Airport so that they could be treated.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Fabulous holiday ended with a nightmare journey back from Corfu with terrible turbulence in which we plummeted 200m and two cabin crew were injured with broken leg resulting in emergency diversion to Rome for them to be taken to hospital and a 6-hour wait to be rescued by EasyJet," passenger Becky Walters said in a Facebook post.&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a new style of theft, a man took 200 flights last year and travelled across the country to carry out robberies at airports for more than 100 days.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The theft was busted by the Delhi Police after a woman, who was travelling from Hyderabad to Delhi,&nbsp;claimed that someone stole jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh (approx. $8381) from her handbag.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Meanwhile, the police received another complaint from a man who reported a robbery of valuables worth&nbsp;Rs&nbsp;20 lakh (approx $23,947) while on his way to Germany from Amritsar via a connecting flight from Delhi.</p>

<p>After scanning footage from airports for several hours, the police arrested the&nbsp;man identified as Rajesh Kapoor.</p>

<p>Nearly 22 flights were cancelled as the Popocatepetl volcano continued spewing ash&nbsp;in Mexico City on Tuesday (Feb 27).&nbsp;</p>

<p>In a bid to address severe airspace congestion at Mumbai Airport, the central government has imposed flight restrictions, caused by various factors, including non-scheduled flight operations during peak hours.</p>

<p>The Ministry of Civil Aviation revealed that, despite the escalating air traffic post-pandemic, the airport had failed to take sufficient measures.</p>

<p>The ministry said that the airport operator did not take steps to streamline and regulate the air traffic movements to resolve this problem, therefore forcing it to step in.</p>

<p>"The airport operator, being the slot provider as well as the manager of slots for the airlines, should have proactively taken steps to streamline and regulate the air traffic movements, to resolve this problem. However, since no such action was initiated by them, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has had to step in," it said.</p>

<p>The airport is operated by Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL).</p>

<p>The ministry said that the airport "suffers from congestion and excess capacity on its runways, which inadvertently leads to air space congestion, where flights are forced to hover over the city for a long duration of around 40-60 minutes."</p>

<p>The ministry further said that considering that an aircraft on average consumes 2000kg of fuel per hour, such a long duration of circling time causes significant wastage of fuel for the aircrafts ranging from 1.7 kilolitres of jet fuel (approximately costing around Rs 1.8 lakh) for a 40-minute circling time in air to around 2.5 kilolitres of jet fuel (approximately costing around Rs. 2.6 lakhs) for a 60-minute circling time.</p>

<p>"It is to be understood that such an increase in fuel costs would eventually be borne by the consumers. This also has a cascading effect on the efficiency of airports operations leading to a longer wait time, inordinate delays, affecting both passengers and airlines adversely," it said.</p>

<p>In order to remedy such air space congestion, an analysis was conducted by Airport Authority of India (AAI), which found that air traffic permitted per hour during the 6 hours of High Intensity Runway Operations (HIRO i.e. from 8 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 8 pm) was almost equivalent to air traffic permitted per hour during the remaining 18 hours of the day.</p>

<p>"While Mumbai Airport is running at its full capacity, it was found that the persistent congestion was caused due to, excessive slot distribution with limited time margins on behalf of the airport operator, non-adherence of the slots on behalf of the airlines and non-scheduled operations during peak hours," it said.</p>

<p>The United States air safety regulator on Saturday (Jan 6) temporarily grounded certain&nbsp; Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft for safety checks&nbsp;a day after one of the airplane's window panels blew out over the state of Oregon post takeoff.</p>

<p>The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) "is requiring immediate inspections of certain Boeing 737 MAX 9 planes before they can return to flight," the agency said in a post on X.</p>

<p>The agency estimates that approximately 171 planes would be impacted globally and that each inspection would last four to eight hours.</p>

<p>"Safety will continue to drive our decision-making," the FAA statement said.</p>

<p>Alaska and United Airlines operate the most MAX 9 aircraft. Boeing has so far delivered around 218 737 MAX 9 planes, the company told news agency AFP.</p>

<p>US-based Alaska Airlines had on Friday (Jan 5) grounded all 65 of its Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft after a flight carrying 177 people was forced to make an emergency landing.</p>

<p>For operational support, the airline requested $76 million, but it was declined by the government. However, there's no information on whether or not caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar will opt for a restructuring plan to stabilise the finances of the airline.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"The Pakistan International Airlines made a payment of Rs 220 million on Friday which could last the weekend, but it did not. And on Sunday, we were refused fuel which resulted in massive cancellations," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As per Khan, there were "slim chances of a full restoration of flight operations" considering the way fuel was being supplied and amid PSO's refusal to allow any credit line or relaxation to "a fellow government organisation".&nbsp;</p>

<p>"However, our focus will now shift toward preserving our international operations, for which we can secure fuel from other sources, unlike in Pakistan, where we are bound to obtain fuel from PSO," he said.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Two-front war imminent?&nbsp;</h2>

<p>Earlier, similar strikes on October 12 had knocked both Damascus and Aleppo airports out of service. Last weekend, Israeli airstrikes targeted Aleppo airport, causing injuries and further disruptions, as per media reports.&nbsp;</p>

<p>"Hezbollah... is dragging Lebanon into a war that it will gain nothing from, but stands to lose a lot," Conricus said.</p>

<p>Hamas has already led an onslaught on Israel but the nation is facing increasing concerns of a two-front war, one from Lebanon and another from Syria.</p>

<p>Manchester Airport, one of the busiest air hubs in the UK, temporarily suspended flight operations on Tuesday (Oct 17)&nbsp;following a bomb threat on an Emirates flight originating from Dubai, media reports said.&nbsp;The Emirates Airbus A380, also known as the "SuperJumbo," landed slightly behind schedule at 7:21 pm after a routine flight from Dubai.</p>

<p>Greater Manchester Police, at the same time, received information about a concerning email that claimed the presence of a suspicious package on the aircraft.</p>

<p>In response to the bomb threat, a police spokesperson reportedly stated that the aircraft had landed at Manchester Airport and was held for "further assessment".</p>

<p>Specifically, a British Airways flight from London Heathrow and an easyJet flight from Palma de Mallorca were rerouted to Liverpool. Meanwhile, a Jet2 flight arriving from Paphos in Cyprus was redirected to Leeds Bradford, which serves as the airline's main base.</p>

<h2><strong>Brief airport closure</strong></h2>

<p>The airport closure lasted for 34 minutes, during which time intensive searches and security checks were conducted. Fortunately, no suspicious items were discovered, as per a police spokesperson.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Passengers on the Emirates flight were allowed to disembark the aircraft. There was also presence of extra police officers to address any concerns and provide reassurance to the troubled passengers.&nbsp;</p>

<p>As a consequence of the bomb threat and the ensuing security measures, the return flight to Dubai, EK20, experienced a delay of two and a half hours. This delay meant that some of the roughly 500 passengers onboard were expected to miss their connecting flights at the Emirates hub.</p>
