<p>The 'Only Adult' zone will be offered on the flight route between Amsterdam and the Caribbean island of Curaçao. The airline plans to introduce child-free zone from November.</p>

<p>As reported by Euro News, this zone will be located in the front of the plane. This zone will have 93 seats reserved for travellers who are aged 16 and above.</p>

<p>This section will be separated from the other one with walls and curtains. Passengers will reportedly have to pay 45 euros extra one-way if they wish to book a seat in adults-only section. This section will also have nine seats with extra legroom. These seats will cost 100 euros extra.</p>

<p>Atilay Uslu, founder of Corendon said the child-free zone is being established with an aim to “accommodate travellers looking for extra peace during their flight.”</p>

<p>Uslu added that setting up such a zone would also mean that parents of infants would be free from worry that their crying child is disturbing others.</p>

<p>“They can enjoy the fight without worrying if their children make a little noise,” he said.</p>

<p>Corendon Airlines is the first carrier in Europe to take this step, but such plans have already been adopted by some others.<br />

<p>China announced on Monday that it has granted approval for the resumption of commercial flights between Beijing and the North Korean capital, Pyongyang. This marks a significant development as it is the first time such flights have been allowed since North Korea closed its borders in early 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. During a regular press briefing, Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for China's foreign ministry, said, "During the summer and autumn flight season... the Chinese side approved flight plans for passengers such as the Pyongyang-Beijing and Beijing-Pyongyang routes of Air Koryo."&nbsp;</p>

<p>But as Air Koryo was set to return to the Chinese skies, there was an abrupt cancellation of flights. North Korea's national airline, Air Koryo, was poised to launch its first commercial flight in over three years on Monday, August 21.</p>

<p>North Korea has remained secluded from the global community since early 2020 when it took the decision to seal its borders in response to the rapid spread of the COVID-19 virus.&nbsp;The sudden cancellation of Air Koryo's flight raised numerous questions.</p>

<p>Representatives from the airline offered no specific reason for the abrupt change in plans, media reports said.</p>

<p>China's foreign ministry, when queried about the cancellation, reportedly reiterated its approval for restarting commercial flights between the two capitals.</p>

<p>A tornado reached near Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport on Wednesday (July 12) as hundreds of flights were disrupted. Passengers were forced to take shelter.</p>

<p>The National Weather Service in Chicago confirmed the presence of a tornado on the ground around 7 pm local time.</p>

<p>“This tornado has been touching the ground intermittently so far and is moving east. There are additional circulations along the line south of O’Hare. Seek shelter if in the warned area,” it stated.&nbsp;</p>

<p>The Federal Aviation Administration grounded all departures of commercial flights at Midway and O’Hare airports.</p>

<p>As per FlightAware, more than 300 flights in and out of O’Hare and also 32 in and out of Midway were cancelled, with hundreds of people sheltered at O’Hare.</p>

<p>The video from TV stations showed hundreds of people huddled in an O’Hare concourse.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Kevin Bargnes, director of communications for O’Hare and Chicago Midway International Airport, told WGN-TV Wednesday night that no damage was reported at either airport.</p>

Watch | Tornado forms near Chicago’s O'Hare airport, disrupting many flights

<p>Travellers at Heathrow Airport in London continued to be at discomfort as British Airways cancelled 42 more flights on Friday (May 26) following Thursday's disruption due to an IT problem. The airline said that the situation on Friday was a 'knock on effect' of the problem faced by the airline due to Thursday's technical issue. According to BBC, some 16000 passengers have been affected due to the issue this time.</p>

<p>Most of the cancelled flights were domestic or were heading to destinations in Europe. However, other services have reportedly been affected and some passengers were not able to check-in online.</p>

<p>On Thursday, British Airways apologised for the disruption and said that majority of the flights were operating. The carrier also said that the affected customers had been contacted and were offered options of refund or a rebooking to an alternative flight with British Airways or another carrier.</p>

<p>On Friday, British Airways issued a statement.</p>

<p>"While the vast majority of our flights continue to operate today, we have cancelled some of our short-haul flights from Heathrow due to the knock-on effect of a technical issue that we experienced yesterday," the airline said.</p>

<p>Independent reported that at least 150 flights had been cancelled.</p>

<p>The BBC quoted data from Cirium, a data firm. It said that 83 BA flights or about 8 per cent of its planned services on Friday were cancelled as of 8:00 BST. Cirium data said that on Thursday, BA cancelled 92 out of 860 scheduled flights.</p>

<p>British Airways spokesperson sought to maintain that only a small number of flights were affected.</p>

<h2><strong>Passengers exasperated</strong></h2>

<p>"We were told to go to the flight cancellations desk to get assistance but there were thousands of people there and a few staff, most of the desks were empty," said Gavin Lanoe, as quoted by BBC. Lanoe was stuck at Heathrow on Thursday.</p>

<p>Lanoe was eventually told that he could not rebook and was assured of reimbursement of £200 in future.</p>

<p>He then reportedly booked ticket with another airline from Gatwick. In spite of assurance from BA that his luggage will be sent to Gatwick, it was still at Heathrow</p>

<p>"They've had enough IT failures now and they should be more practiced at dealing with them but they are not," he told BBC.</p>

<p>The British airline has been affected by other IT problems in recent years including a major computer system failure in 2017 that stranded 75,000 passengers over a holiday weekend, sparking a public relations disaster and pledges from the carrier that it would do better in future.</p>

Travellers at Heathrow Airport in London continued to be at discomfort as British Airways cancelled 42 more flights on Friday (May 26) following Thursday's disruption due to an IT problem. The airline said that the situation on Friday was a 'knock on effect' of the problem faced by the airline due to Thursday's technical issue. According to BBC, some 16000 passengers have been affected due to the issue this time. Most of the cancelled flights were domestic or were heading to destinations in Europe. However, other services have reportedly been affected and some passengers were not able to check-in online. On Thursday, British Airways apologised for the disruption and said that majority of the flights were operating. The carrier also said that the affected customers had been contacted and were offered options of refund or a rebooking to an alternative flight with British Airways or another carrier. On Friday, British Airways issued a statement. "While the vast majority of our flights continue to operate today, we have cancelled some of our short-haul flights from Heathrow due to the knock-on effect of a technical issue that we experienced yesterday," the airline said. Independent reported that at least 150 flights had been cancelled. The BBC quoted data from Cirium, a data firm. It said that 83 BA flights or about 8 per cent of its planned services on Friday were cancelled as of 8:00 BST. Cirium data said that on Thursday, BA cancelled 92 out of 860 scheduled flights. British Airways spokesperson sought to maintain that only a small number of flights were affected. Passengers exasperated "We were told to go to the flight cancellations desk to get assistance but there were thousands of people there and a few staff, most of the desks were empty," said Gavin Lanoe, as quoted by BBC. Lanoe was stuck at Heathrow on Thursday. Lanoe was eventually told that he could not rebook and was assured of reimbursement of £200 in future. He then reportedly booked ticket with another airline from Gatwick. In spite of assurance from BA that his luggage will be sent to Gatwick, it was still at Heathrow "They've had enough IT failures now and they should be more practiced at dealing with them but they are not," he told BBC. The British airline has been affected by other IT problems in recent years including a major computer system failure in 2017 that stranded 75,000 passengers over a holiday weekend, sparking a public relations disaster and pledges from the carrier that it would do better in future. <p>The law also stipulates that the train services on these routes not only be frequent but also be timely and well-connected enough to deal with the influx of passengers who would otherwise travel by air. Additionally, there is also a provision which says that people making these trips should be able to make outbound and return train journeys after spending at least eight hours at the destination.</p>

<h2>Essential for reducing greenhouse gas emissions:&nbsp;<strong>Govt</strong></h2>

<p>“This is an essential step and a strong symbol in the policy of reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said French Transport Minister, Clement Beaune. He added, “As we fight relentlessly to decarbonize our lifestyles, how can we justify the use of the plane between the big cities which benefit from regular, fast and efficient connections by train.”&nbsp;</p>

<p>The government was also able to move forward with the plan after it secured an agreement with Air France in exchange for a 2020 COVID-19 financial support package. This comes as the airlines were severely hit by the pandemic-induced travel restrictions. According to data from Flightradar24, the number of flights taken last year was down from almost 42 per cent in 2019.&nbsp;</p>

<h2><strong>Govt should support real, significant solutions: Critics</strong></h2>

<p>The interim head of the industry group Airlines for Europe (A4E), Laurent Donceel told AFP that the government should “support real and significant solutions” to airline emissions as opposed to the “symbolic bans”. He also said that Brussels had found that “banning these trips will only have minimal effects” on carbon dioxide output.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Furthermore, critics have pointed out how high-speed trains were&nbsp;making fewer passengers opt for flights anyway and that the move is the French government’s attempt to pacify climate concerns without really doing anything about it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Similarly, A4E has highlighted its own plan to reach net zero by 2050 which includes steps like switching to jet fuel from non-fossil sources and deploying battery or hydrogen-powered aircraft, reported AFP.</p>

France bans short-haul flights where trains are available to cut carbon emissions

<p>Thousands of flights were disrupted in and out of the United States as a strong winter storm is posing a threat of record-level snowfall in parts of the country. As per FlightAware, a flight-tracking website, over 1000 flights in and out of the US were cancelled by 09:15 am Eastern Time. Additionally, 932 flights were delayed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Federal Aviation Administration tweeted on Tuesday that the weather conditions could cause flight delays in Minnesota and other states in the Great Lakes and southern plains.</p>

Over 1000 flights cancelled as parts of US brace for severe winter storm

For the second time in three years, the British minor airline Flybe has halted operations and cancelled all services to and from the United Kingdom, the company announced on Saturday. Flybe, which operated regular flights between Belfast, Birmingham, and Heathrow as well as to Amsterdam and Geneva, said that company has entered administration, a process that protects debtors, in a statement on its website.

However, Dubai Airports, which&nbsp;owns and manages the operation and development of both airports Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC),&nbsp;said that the baggage allowance for passengers is only limited to hand luggage and no checked luggage is allowed.&nbsp;</p>

<p>“It is mandatory for travellers to hold a valid match ticket and the Hayya Card to board match day shuttle flights. The baggage allowance for passengers using the shuttle service is limited to hand luggage as per their class of travel, and no checked luggage will be accepted except wheelchairs and strollers,” according to Dubai Airports.</p>

<p>Flights now appear to have much less impact on the environment than they did before due to change in the way Google calculates it.</p>

<p>The tech giant, which is the world's biggest search engine, has taken a key driver of global warming out of its online carbon flight calculator.</p>

<p>Doug Parr, the chief scientist of Greenpeace, told BBC, "Google has airbrushed a huge chunk of the aviation industry's climate impact from its pages."</p>

<p>This could have wide repercussions for people's travel decisions as Google hosts nine out of every 10 online searches.</p>

<p>Defending its decision, Google said it made the change following consultations with its "industry partners".</p>

<p>Designed "to help you make more sustainable travel choices", Google's feature excludes all the global warming impacts of flying except CO2 which represents just over half of the real impact on the climate of flights.<br />

David Lee,&nbsp;professor of atmospheric science&nbsp;at Manchester Metropolitan University said, "It now significantly understates the global impact of aviation on the climate."</p>

<p>According to experts, the aviation industry is actually responsible for around 3.5 per cent of the warming caused by human activity but the new policy will only show it as 2 per cent.</p>

<p>The International Energy Agency (IEA) stated in a report that emissions have risen by 50 per cent since 2000 and the industry is expected to grow by more than 4 per cent every year for the next twenty years.</p>

<p>Arguing that the company's priority is the "accuracy of the individual flight estimates", Google says it recognises that at the global scale they are a significant additional impact on flying.</p>

According to experts, the aviation industry is actually responsible for around 3.5 per cent of the warming caused by human activity but the new policy will only show it as 2 per cent. The International Energy Agency (IEA) stated in a report that emissions have risen by 50 per cent since 2000 and the industry is expected to grow by more than 4 per cent every year for the next twenty years. Arguing that the company's priority is the "accuracy of the individual flight estimates", Google says it recognises that at the global scale they are a significant additional impact on flying. <p>For people travelling on Flight ET343, August 15 was an experience that was both harrowing and miraculous. Pilots of the flight, which was travelling from Khartoum to Addis Ababa, apparently fell asleep at 37,000 feet in the air and missed their landing.</p>

<p>As per the Aviation Herald, the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-800 continued past its&nbsp; scheduled destination: the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport and didn't approach the runway. In spite of multiple tries, Air Traffic Control (ATC) was unable to reach the crew.</p>

<p>When the plane overflew the runway, the autopilot mode was disengaged, and "the disconnect wailer woke the crew up, who then manoeuvred the aircraft for a safe landing on the runway about 25 minutes after overflying the runway."</p>

<p>Alex Macheras, an aviation analyst, expressed his dismay at the "deeply concerning incident" on Twitter, suggesting that pilot fatigue might be to blame.</p>

<p>"Lufthansa will have to call off almost the entire flight programme at its hubs in Frankfurt and Munich for Wednesday," the group said, adding that a knock-on effect on some flights scheduled for Thursday and Friday could not be ruled out.</p>

<p>The strike is scheduled to last from 0145 GMT on Wednesday to 0400 GMT on Thursday. The strike has been called to demand higher pay rise than the one offered by Lufthansa.</p>

<p>Cancellation of flights is sure to create disturbance in summer air travel across Europe. Travel volume has increased in Europe due to relaxation of Covid rules.</p>

<p>The Verdi union, representing around 20,000 Lufthansa ground staff, is seeking a 9.5-percent pay rise, or at least 350 euros ($360) per month. It also wants a minimum hourly wage of 13 euros.</p>

<p>The union has said management's offer so far "does not come close to compensating for inflation" which stood at 7.6 percent in Germany last month.</p>
