To aid fire management and firefighters, Mallia and his colleagues want to find a mechanism to predict when pyrocumulonimbus clouds may form. They also want to know how the clouds might contribute to the atmosphere's continued warming. Mallia warned that smoke carried into the lower stratosphere could have an impact on the climate. Black carbon, which is abundant in smoke particles, can cause warming when it is exposed to sunlight at high altitudes.

Reportedly, the house owners,&nbsp;David and Tiera Barrett were out for dinner while their 18-year-old daughter&nbsp;Seionna, babysitted&nbsp;three siblings, aged 1, 6 and 13. One of the siblings had invited their friend to the house as well. In total, five children were in the house, when the fire started, the cause of which is still unknown.&nbsp;

Seionna first spotted the fire and ran upstairs to grab her siblings. However, by the time she ran downstairs, Nick had already entered the house from the back gate.

Racing through the smoke, Nick encountered four of the five kids on the stairs and escorted them safely out of the smoke and house. However, he quickly quizzed the kids if anybody was left back in there.

Nick goes into the house for a second time

Upon receiving info that 6-year-old Kaylani was still inside, Nick, without missing a heartbeat, scurried into the flaming house for a second time, wrapping his shirt around his mouth and nose to minimize smoke inhalation.

Not knowing where the little kid was, Nick used his ears to zone in on the location. After looking around, he&nbsp;found Kaylani and 'hightailed' upstairs to jump out of the window. Nick did fell while going upstairs but composed himself and jumped out of the window, making sure that the little&nbsp;Kaylani was on the opposite side of his arms at the time of impact.

The body cam footage from the firefighters on the spot shows Nick running outside with the wailing kid in his arms. After passing the baby safely to firefighters, Nick crashes on the sidewalk and asks for oxygen. His hands could be seen burnt and cut due to the events inside the house.&nbsp;

"I can barely breathe," Bostic says in the video. "Is the baby OK? Please tell me the baby's OK."

Thankfully, the girl only suffered minor cuts and Bostic was taken to Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis where he spent two days before being discharged.&nbsp;

David Barrett, father of the kids thanked Nick by remarking, "Whatever brought him there at that moment.&nbsp;I feel like he was God-sent. He saved something that was priceless."

The family has stayed in touch with Nick and even accepted him as part of the family.&nbsp;"They (Barrett's) have welcomed me into their family as their own which is super cool I'm super honored for it," said Nick.&nbsp;

After Nick's heroic deed went viral on the realms of social media platforms, the good samaritans of the internet started a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/nick-bostic-hero">fundraiser</a> campaign to show their appreciation for him. So far, the campaign has collected over 500k for Nick.

In a fire that broke out during a prison riot in southwestern Colombia on Tuesday, at least 49 inmates were killed and dozens more were injured, the national prisons agency said. The tragedy occurred when rioting inmates set a fire to try to prevent police from entering their enclosure at the prison in the city of Tulua, said Tito Castellanos, director of the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC).

"Unfortunately there was a riot in the pavilion number eight of the Tulua prison, where there are 1,267 prisoners, with the unfortunate result that 49 people died," Castellanos told La W Radio.

He said another 30 people were "injured and affected by the blaze and the smoke."

As reported by AFP, Castellanos said authorities were investigating whether prisoners had lit their mattresses as part of an "escape attempt" or whether the riot was provoked "to cover some other situation." He made no mention of whether any prisoners actually escaped.

A report by Caracol Radio said more than 40 people had been injured. There were 180 inmates in the prison section affected by the fire.

Castellanos praised the efforts of prison guards, some of whom were injured, to control the blaze and help prisoners to safety. He said that without their intervention "the result would have been worse."

Outgoing President Ivan Duque sent a tweet offering his solidarity with relatives of the victims.

"We regret the events that occurred in the prison in Tulua, Valle del Cauca," Duque said.

"I have given instructions to clarify this terrible situation. My solidarity is with the families of the victims," he added.

Fatal prison riots are not uncommon in Latin America. In Colombia's neighbour Ecuador, nearly 400 prisoners have been killed in six riots since early 2021. Colombia's prison system has a capacity of 97,000 inmates but is overpopulated by some 16,000, according to INPEC.

The aircraft made a turnback due to a suspected bird hit, which forced the pilot to shut one of the engines and decide to return to the city airport, the airline said in a statement.

The aircraft took off at around 12.10 pm, and according to residents of localities adjacent to the airport, who claimed to have witnessed the incident, it caught fire immediately.

However, none of the passengers were hurt, an official said. Some passengers said they felt tremors inside the plane soon after the take off and the lights started turning off.

As a precautionary measure and as per SOP, Captain shutdown the affected engine and decided to return to Patna,"&nbsp;SpiceJet said in the statement.

The aircraft landed safely in Patna and passengers were safely deboarded, it said, adding that post flight inspection showed three fan blades were damaged due to the bird hit. The airline, however, did not share the number of persons on board its Patna-Delhi flight.

Delhi-bound flight catches fire soon after taking off from Patna airport

A major fire broke&nbsp;out in a crockery and carpet factory in Indian capital New Delhi. The factory&nbsp;is located in north Delhi's Hamidpur area.&nbsp;

Fire department officials told PTI that information about the fire was received at 6.45 pm.&nbsp;

As many as 23 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the fire.

As per the Divisional Officer, Delhi Fire Service, SK Dua, the NOC was not taken from the concerned department while establishing the factory.

"23 fire tenders are engaged in the dousing operation. It`s a godown of different things. They have not taken NOC from the fire department nor do they have any system to douse the fire. No casualties have been reported so far," Dua said. He was quoted by ANI.

There was no immediate report of any casualty.

Earlier in the day, a fire broke out near Shah Masjid, Batla House in the Jamia Nagar area of the national capital on Thursday.

More than seven fire tenders rushed to the spot to douse the blaze and a total of 20 people have been rescued so far, according to Delhi Fire Service.

Three more fire incidents were reported on Wednesday.

The first fire incident took place in the Ministry of Home Affairs in the North block post-Tuesday midnight.&nbsp;

In the second incident of the day, at least 10 cars were gutted in a massive fire that broke out at an electric motor parking in Delhi`s Jamia Nagar on Wednesday morning.&nbsp;

The third fire incident took place in the electric meter panel in the basement of a building in Delhi`s Lajpat Nagar area, informed the officials on Wednesday.

According to him, when compared to Lithium-ion batteries, the Zinc-air batteries are more environmentally friendly, costs less, provide similar mileage as Li-ion batteries, are easier to manufacture and maintain and can easily be mass-produced in India, given how the country has abundant resources of Zinc.

"Zinc is actually a nutrient found in our food and is safer when compared to lithium. In Zinc-air batteries one electrode is zinc and another is oxygen (derived from the air) and this setup sits in an aqueous electrolyte. This makes it water-based and hence can fully prevent any possibility of fire. The worst-case scenario in case of a failure or malfunction is that the battery won't deliver power" he explained.

While Lithium-ion batteries have to be swapped (discharged battery replaced with a fully charged one), Zinc-air ones don't need a total replacement. Only a small component of the battery, such as its 'Zinc cassette' (anode) has to be replaced. In layman's terms, the Zinc cassette replacement can be compared to how a memory card is removed and replaced from a gadget.

However, it has to be performed at dedicated Zinc cassette replacement facilities or charging stations(similar to fuel stations or EV charging stations). This process is also said to be sustainable, as the spent Zinc oxide cassette can be removed and converted back to Zinc. The process of replacing the Zinc cassette could safely be carried out at home by a layperson, with basic training on the procedure.

With Lithium-ion batteries used in Electric vehicles and other devices majorly being imported from China, the Researchers from IIT-M feel that further work on Zinc-air batteries can provide a home-grown solution for India. India being home to large Zinc reserves also helps accelerate the large-scale manufacturing of such batteries, it is said. The team is also in talks with automobile OEMs to integrate these new-age batteries into the vehicles, in about a year's time.

Queried about the power holding capacity of their batteries, Dr Chandiran said, "We have built batteries that can store up to 1.3-2.6Kilo Watt Hour(KWh) and this is sufficient as most E-scooters use 2KWh batteries. The Zinc-air batteries that we have developed are far simpler to manufacture and the process can be done even in a normal room with ambient conditions and standard machines. This is in contrast to Li-ion batteries that require special ultradry conditions and high pure chemicals at the manufacturing facility.

However, there is one technical aspect where these Zinc-ion batteries fall significantly behind their Lithium-ion counterparts. "Such batteries can only be used in two or three-wheelers and not cars, as cars require high power and these batteries can't cater to that need. Simply put, these Zinc-air batteries are capable of storing high amounts of energy(on par with Li-ion ones), but cannot deliver power as rapidly as Li-ion" Dr Chandiran explained.

A fire broke out at a plastic factory in Narela area in north Delhi on Saturday, a fire department official said.

The official said that they received a call about the fire incident at 9.10 p.m. in the factory at H 1373, DSIDC, Narela, in north Delhi after which as many as 20 fire tenders were immediately pressed into the service.

As the firemen reached the spot, they found that the blaze was of medium category following which 5 more fire engines were deployed.

Delhi Fire Service chief Atul Garg confirmed to IANS that there have been no injuries or casualties in the incident. However, there was certainly a massive loss of property.

The cause of fire is yet to be ascertained.

Massive flames engulfed the whole building while thick plumes of smoke was billowing out of the top floor.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer north) Brijendra Kumar Yadav said that the factory is owned by one Rahul Jain and at the time of incident, the factory was closed.

"In this factory, tarpaulin is manufactured for which plastic dana is used a raw material," the DCP said, adding no one is reported to have been trapped inside.

As per latest reports, 25 fire tenders are at the spot and one `sky lift` fire tender has also reached at 12.05 a.m.

"Fire is now under control," DCP Yadav added.

Notably, the incident comes just a day after 27 people were charred to death in a major fire incident at Delhi`s Mundka.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for those injured.

The fire broke out in the office of CCTV and routers manufacturing company on the first floor of the building.

According to fire officials, there was only one staircase due to which people could not move out of the building.

The police said that an FIR has been lodged in the matter and the owners of the CCTV manufacturing unit have been detained.
