At least 10 people were killed and nine injured after a fire ripped through an apartment in China’s northwestern Xinjiang region, state media reported on Friday.

The fire broke out at a high-rise building on Thursday night in the regional capital of Urumqi, where temperatures have dropped to below freezing after dark. According to reports, it took more than three hours to douse the flames.

In August 2015, over 170 people were killed and 700 injured when blasts ripped through a warehouse in Tianjin Port where large amounts of toxic chemicals were stored, including around 700 tonnes of sodium cyanide.

"A&nbsp;significantly positive correlation" between the number of eclampsia cases, a rare pregnancy illness where high blood pressure causes potentially fatal seizures, and the number of deaths attributed to toxic smoke from cooking and heating has been discovered by researchers at King's College London. Pregnant women who are cooking over an open fire have a much higher chance of having pre-eclampsia, which is marked by elevated blood pressure or hypertension.

Prof Andrew Shennan, a lead author of the study, told The Guardian that the research “could help explain observed inequalities in maternal healthcare in low and middle-income countries”.

“In-house cooking and household pollution may increase the risk of seizures. We believe that less oxygen will get to the mother’s brain, and this may trigger a fit in women who already have pre-eclampsia,” said Shennan.

The fire started at 2 am local time and was doused by firefighters at around 7:30 am.

State television showed images of the bar -- housed in a single-storey logistical centre -- engulfed in flames.&nbsp;

As per Governor Sergei Sitnikov, 13 people have been killed but emergency services then said the remains of two other people were also found.

"Two more bodies were recovered. This means the number of victims is now 15," the TASS news agency quoted law enforcement sources as saying. &nbsp;

Around 250 people were evacuated from the building when it caught fire, authorities said earlier.

"The cause of the fire is currently unknown but so far 11 deaths as a result of the fire have been confirmed while six are in critical conditions and admitted (to hospital)," the Uganda Police Force said on Twitter.

The tragedy occurred at 1 am (2200 GMT Monday) at the Salama School for the Blind in the Mukono district, east of the capital Kampala. The police have&nbsp;launched an investigation.

"Most of the dead are children at the school and our sympathies go to the parents," Internal Affairs Minister General Kahinda Otafiire told AFP.&nbsp; 
He said the school has been cordoned off as a "crime scene" and vowed that there would be a full investigation.

"As government we shall go to the root cause of the fire and if there are any culprits they will be apprehended and the law will take its course," he added.

Images broadcast on Ugandan television showed a charred but still largely intact building where the fire broke out, its window frames and door blackened and the corrugated roof damaged. &nbsp;

Forensic teams were seen in white protective gear at the school, while grieving parents gathered nearby.

The fire at SK C&amp;C on Saturday afternoon affected the operations of companies including Kakao and Naver housed at the data centre in Pangyo, on Seoul's southern periphery, an SK official said.

There were no reports of injuries but the companies involved apologised to customers for the service disruptions. Safety precautions were preventing Kakao from resuming power supplies to its data centre, the Yonhap news agency reported.

At least seven people were killed after a fire broke out at a mall in South Korea’s Daejeon city on Monday.

According to reports, the blaze started around 7.45 am (local time) in the basement and then quickly spread to the whole area.

More than 110 people, including mall employees and customers at a nearby hotel, were quickly evacuated from the area.

Firefighters were continuing to search for survivors after putting out the blaze, said Go Seung-cheol, an official at the Daejeon Fire Headquarters. He said it wasn’t immediately clear if there were people still missing and that smoke remained in some parts of the building.

The officials believe that the fire may have caused more damage had it started during the mall’s business hours.

Videos and photos from the scene showed a dark-grey plume of smoke billowing out of the basement of the building while firefighters try to contain the fire.

Several fire tenders rushed to the spot to bring the fire under control. Police reached the spot and evacuated people.

"The fire broke out in the electric scooter charging unit on the ground floor. Smoke overpowered the people staying on the first and second floors. The remaining people jumped from the building and were rescued by locals.&nbsp;

They were rushed to the hospital. Fire tenders on the spot," said Hyderabad Commissioner CV Anand. Meanwhile, Telangana Home Minister Mohd Mahmood Ali said a probe has been initiated.

"Very unfortunate incident. Fire brigade teams tried their best to rescue people from the lodge but due to heavy smoke, some people died. Some people were rescued from the lodge. We are probing how the incident happened," the minister said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed his condolences on the tragic incident. "Saddened by the loss of lives due to a fire in Secunderabad, Telangana. Condolences to the bereaved families. May the injured recover soon," Modi tweeted.

While expressing his condolences through a Twitter post, Modi said Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF (Prime Minister`s National Relief Fund) would be paid to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.

Twelve out of them ended up causing massive damage to the cars while in one instance, the driver reported injuries to their hand and fingers, according to documents accessed by Reuters.&nbsp;
